Reviews for Nishimuraya Honkan
Review 1:If traditional room is romantic, an old bathroom was just old and uncomfortable. Our bathroom need be rebuilt. Traditional breakfast
Review 2:Beautiful traditional hotel, beautiful garden, you go away in small town with traditional dress. Dinner inside room.
Review 3:Though the service is impeccable, the room facilities can use a little update. We stayed in the hotel in winter, there is no heating in the bathroom and toilet and I had to have shower in the onsen bath in the hotel as the bathroom is super cold.
Review 4:The best services any hotel could offer in Japan; the room rates includes a 11 (or is it 13?) course fine-dining-standard dinner with crabs cooked in all ways you can possibly imagine; and the breakfast was very nice too.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:This is the best Ryokan in town. It certainly lives up to its name. As a family of five, the accommodation in one room on tatami was surprisingly comfortable. The full crab dinner course was absolutely one of the best. Lisa, our attendant, was worthy of praise.
Review 7:We got a private hot spring in my room and there have a small garden view. But the garden looks a little bit mess. If they have clean up the garden I think it will be much nice!!
Review 8:The service is fantastic. Everyone is so nice and friendly. The stuff's English is good so it's very easy to communicate. The food is soooooo good!
Review 9:This is no reflection on the hotel, but just be aware - for western travellers, futons aren't the most comfortable beds! We stayed in a few traditional ryokans and I must say out of all the futons, the ones here were the best - but o wouldn't opt to sleep on a futon forever. That said, it does add to the experience and I can't recommend Nishimuraya highly enough.
Review 10:The setting, the rooms, the food, the staff, the onsen, the service...... All just impeccable. Really made the stay memorable but without anything ever feeling contrived - just exceptional service. A must!
Review 11:I stayed only one night... I should have stayed two nights. But it is very costly place.
Review 12:All. Most lovely room in area. No comparison, I dare to say. Dinner at room with friend couple served by Kimono wear lady who is very sweet and has lots of knowledge on each serving coursee foods. No wonder this is Michellin star earned It's own onsen is also very nice.
Review 13:By far, one of the best experiences I had in Japan. Beautiful, charming facility. Incredible staff. And amazing kaiseki menu - cannot recommend enough.
Review 14:There was nothing I didn't like. I wish I had stayed for more than one night
Review 15:Totally exceeded expectations. Was made to feel welcome and looked after.
Review 16:- wi-fi is very weak in the room (only works at the window) - in-suite toilet is adjacent to balcony (where you sit to relax) and not at the bathroom
Review 17:- Japanese style rooms are very comfortable, staff is arranging the futons every evening - in-suite dinner and breakfast are very delicious - very polite staff - close to city center - next public bath is only 3 min walk - colorful yukatas for the ladies
Review 18:We absolutelty loved our stay! The ryokan itself is so beautiful and the entire experience was unforgetable. The room had a lovely garden view and it was spoteless clean, very well kept and decorated in traditional Japanese furnishings. Bedding is comfortble and well cushioned if you're wondering how it's to sleep at the tatami. It also included nice toiletries and kimonos. Staff spoke English well and provided outstanding service all the way through, they were extremelly kind and helpful. They even helped me get dressed in the dinner-time Kimono, which was beautiful! The highlight for us was the food, which was fantastic (dinner included a 10 course traditional meal and breakfast was equality delicious). They pay attention to every detail and made us feel really welcomed. There's a nice onsen inside but the stay also includes a pass to all onsens in town, which was such a fun experience (hotel provides you towels, casual kimono and sandals for you to go from onsen to onsen). It's expensive but totally worth the splurge, specially considering it includes superb meals and all the ammenities, you get a lot for what you pay for. it's overall such an amazing experience to have while in Japan. Can't recommend it highly enough!
Review 19:Not used to the Japanese style bed. We found it a bit uncomfortable but definitely worth the overall experience.
Review 20:Amazingly beautiful property! Loved the personal Ibsen outside our room. Staff was wonderful. We went for the tajima beef kaiseki and it was unbelievable! Great for those that don't like/were sick of seafood, but even if not, just really great and beautiful food!
Review 21:What's there to say? The staff is beyond amazing. The food is a must-have experience. The room and amenities are extremely luxurious. The city is magical. When I booked this ryokan I felt guilty about spending this amount of money on "just a hotel", but now I wouldn't mind doing the very same thing on my next trip. You get what you pay for or more.
Review 22:We reserved Asuka room, the room located on the first floor with open air bath. The room is very large and comfortable. We went for our honeymoon trip, the hotel's staff gave us a gift. We are very appreciated!! The staffs are very nice. We recommend this hotel.
Review 23:The ultimate ryokan experience; the service was the very best, the food a japanese gourmet feast and the ryokan's own onsen was one of the best. The room was wonderful, I had a great time.
Review 24:The Kaiseki dinner was quite "exotic" and not worth the money for us but that was more a question of our taste I guess.
Review 25:Japanese style to the core and exquisite service in beautiful surroundings
Review 26:That i only book for 1 day... As they are almost always full.. Specially during spring and autumn.
Review 27:If you only have limited time in japan and want to experience the onsen town and stay at traditional ryokan, this is it. The ryokan itself historically been there for more than 140 years, the amazing tranquility of the garden, the design, the wood architecture, i dont know exactly what it is but you immidiately feel relaxed and in the mood of serenity here. Even if the price is higher than the rest in the town, its totally worth it for the kaiseki dinner alone... I never eaten so well or so luxuriously before. The whole idea of the town is your onsen hoping to 7 public onsen they have, i dont know about others but for me that sound excessive. So i try the in-house onsen which is gorgeous with the round pool, and they swith side at morning and night for male and female so every gender experience all the onsen i guess, and the closest public house nearby which also great. But that is the limit for me 3 hot dip in onsen pool within 20 hours is my limit, but many are on onsen round to many of the onsen and if that is your thing you will have many choices in this town. Another thing i like is the area itself, the town maybe small and everything in the main road from station to the onsen are charming and serene. I dont think i can explain more than the picture they put, cause ut was everybit better when you see it yourself. The staff hospitality is beyond excellence, and that saying alot as in Japan the standard of service already very high.
Review 28:Early check-in before 2 pm was not possible and we did neither get an public onsen- pass nor were allowed to use the hotel onsen before the check-in. We would have appreciated if the staff had offered us at least an option to make our stay more comfortable between 12.00 to 14.00. The hotel´s shuttle to the train-station goes only at half and full hour; our train to Osaka (which is probably the frequently used morning train) left at 9.33 a.m., so we had to take the 9 am shuttle and wait at the station for 25 minutes
Review 29:Hotel has a luxurious athmosphere with very friendly staff and excellent japanese food served in the room. The spa area is nice and modern and we especially enjoyed having our own little onsen in our room. The dinner (and the way it was served) was really excellent.
Review 30:Smoking in very central parts of the lobby area! Tradition is one thing...
Review 31:Incredible attention to detail in all aspects. probably the finest "hotel" I've ever stayed in. The garden is outstanding. The dinner and breakfast first class. Children well cared for. Gorgeous Onsen.
Review 32:It was a life experience, from the traditional clothing provided to all guests, hot spring, food, service, everything is excellent. While staying there, it showed us a very different concept on how to relax, enjoy and live healthy.
Review 33:The place and staff were impersonal and after paying $500 for a night, they had the nerve to charge for a cup of coffee which we requested as part of our breakfast (and did not respond to our subsequent complaint).
Review 34:The location was nice and the food was very good.
Review 35:it is a nice, cozy place. no need to use other complicated words to describe it. it is just good, very good. the services and the facilities are given with the care of every need of you. the room with open air bath pleased us so much with the comfortness. yes, the crab dinner was nothing but delicious. but it was really a bit too much for us.
Review 36:Nothing!
Review 37:Beautiful ryokan experience, one of the best that I have been stayed, with personal services. Before our trip, the hotel sent us the email to check if my family has allergic to any foods. As we stayed for three nights, the head chef had personally planned for our meals. The breakfast and the Kaiseki dinners in the room are beautiful and delicious. As we left, the staff offered to take our family photos in front of the hotel and waved us goodbye. The hotel also helped to deliver our luggage to the Tourist Information Center next to the station for us to pick up. I have never been made to feel so special. Thank you!
Review 38:Beautiful hotel with marvellous amenities. Our room was truly magnificent. Staff polite, courteous and extremely attentive. A fabulous place to stay and experience traditional Japan.
Review 39:The only downside of the traditional place, at least for elderly guests who like to take a nap during the day, is that you have no place to do so after breakfast and before dinner.
Review 40:This was outstanding in every respect if you like the experience of a high end ryokan. We stayed for three days, had a private onsen but the public ones in the establishment are just excellent. The Kaiseki dinner in the room is faboulous, the chefs absolutely top. If you stay more than one night make sure you can dine one evening at the restaurant Ricca in the sister hotel in a totally different environment and style but of the same level. Colin at the front desk of the Nishimuraya Shogetsutei will assist.
Review 41:We were charged for extra coffee at breakfast which we found unusual however this is a really really small thing hardly worth mention.
Review 42:If nothing else one should stay here for an amazing dinner - nothing else we had in Japan could compare The rooms and the onsen were wonderful as well and the staff was exceptional
Review 43:I loved this beautiful Ryokan , they were very attentive to our needs . beautiful gardens , gourmet meals served in the room, very romantic. we also took advantage of their Japanese baths on site. everything was perfect.
Review 44:- top quality Onsen Ryokan experience - top quality service from time of booking to checking out - good location short walk from the train station - beautiful hotel building and grounds - hotel room had Japanese style outdoor bath and garden - fantastic Japanese Kaiseki meal served in room (very good variety and quality of food) - room includes loan of Japanese Yukata (robes) for wandering around town in
Review 45:The staff was extremely friendly, responsive, and helpful (for example by helping to put on a yukata). The ryokan´s garden and our room with private bath and garden were truly amazing, not to mention the cuisine - truly delicious. A wonderful experience!
Review 46:Really nothing - just the perfect stay from A-Z
Review 47:Staff was excellent! They really know how to make your stay fantastic. Premises are great - new, modern and clean - but still with the Japanese traditional touch. Great garden! The public bath is very good too. Every detail is perfectly clean and in good shape. You really feel welcome there and staff take care of you wherever they can. We have seen a lot of hotels in our lives, but this one is def. among the top three, in terms of facilities but mainly in terms of service / people. Its pure Japanese hospitality and friendliness. We can only recommend to stay there!
Review 48:Staff could speak a little better english. Even the whole experience had been excellent, I still think it is a little more expensive that it should be.
Review 49:The Hotel is beautiful and amazingly traditional. Staff are very well trained, breakfast is amazing and their onsens are excellent.
Review 50:Beautiful Japanese gardens, onsens, and haute cuisine. Romantic spot!
Review 51:None

Review 56:nothing.
Review 57:everything. It was raining when I was checking out and the bus had just left. One of the staff drove me to the station immediately.

Review 60:Amazing stay!
Review 61:There is nothing to dislike.
Review 62:This is an outstanding property. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 63:considering the available bath at the site, the price if quite hefty.
Review 64:The lovely garden. Polite staffs, and lovely food
Review 65:Amazing staff! They did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
Review 66:Seamless excellent service in wonderful surroundings
Review 67:Wish I had a way to sit and enjoy the garden view (room had a view but no chair to sit and admire it).
Review 68:Delicious food. Comfortable rooms.
Review 69:Nice place and very comfortable. Has a car to pick us up at the train station.
Review 70:The staff, the service, the food, the room, the garden
Review 71:It was two nights of absolute perfection . The attention to detail of all staff , the food , the location all made for a once in a lifetime dream .
Review 72:I can't think of anything that I didn't like!!
Review 73:Breakfast was 100% Japanese, slightly too hardcore for my European taste... But still second to non service.
Review 74:Everything was A+++
Review 75:Room is a bit small Food just ok Not value for money
Review 76:nothing

Review 86:Outstanding service and a great stay at traditional Nishimuraya!
Review 87:the food is amazing
Review 88:That we only stayed two nights.....
Review 89:Worth every penny! Especially the onsen in the hotel is lovely too. And the breakfast which is served in your own room is just another plus.
Review 90:On-site onsen is beautiful and clean. Staff is friendly and eager to help. Very close to some of the towns best public onsen. Sister property is also beautiful with excellent onsen, Japanese western fusion restaurant and spa facility.
Review 91:The location of the hotel is excellent for those who wants to explore the little town. The hotel is very beautiful, totally traditional Japanese style and the service is excellent. Upon arrival I was shown around the hotel and then a set of traditionally made green tea and little snack is served in my room... The Japanese garden in the courtyard is picturque. Recommend to book for Kaisaki dinner in the room, although it is pricey and takes more than 1 hour to eat, the food is excellent! The breakfast is equally excellent and it's served in the room.
Review 92:Pretty well absolutely nothing
Review 93:Beautiful Ryokan experience, probably best we've had. It's obviously top of the market, but well worth it. Eating in will test any Westerners flexibility, but the meal was delicious.
Review 94:We spent one night as part of our honeymoon trip at this absolutely amazing ryokan. Extremely attentive service, personal best wishes by the manager Ms. Ukita wunderful in-room meals served by our delightful personal attendant Ms. Yuu, and incredibly charming room with private hot springs outdoor rock pool going out onto a private japanese garden- has to be seen to be believed. In summary, a perfect treat exceeding our wildest expectations
Review 95:n.a.
Review 96:Unbeatable service in every respect Rear e-mail competence Exquiste citchen Exemplary customer attention by Reiko Ukita In brief:Japanese motenashi at its very best!
Review 97:The total experience was wonderful. From the multi-course meals served in your room to the effort of the staff to make your stay memorable made everything perfect.Highly recommended.
Review 98:We arrived the town with an unfortunate incident, the hotel made arrangement to pick us up from the train station. The manager was very kind trying to accomodate us. A very special thank to one of a very attentive and caring staff, Mr. Naoki, who went over and beyond his duty to help us. The ryokan and foods are absolutely amazing and beautiful. We loved everything about this ryokan.
Review 99:What can I say, this was one of the most magical experiences of my life. The photos actually dont do it justice, it was breathtaking. The incredible food topped it off, we opted for the Japanese breakfast and the warmign rice pudding was so delicious and comforting! As we left, all the staff saw us out and waved us goodbye. I've nver been made to feel so special. What an experience. Thank you!
Review 100:This is a beautiful place to stay. The staff are wonderful and very thoughtful, the onsen is very relaxing, the town delightful. A luxury experience to remember.
Review 101:There was nothing we did not like.
Review 102:The warm welcome. The beauty of the location. The comfort of the room and the attentiveness of the staff. Being dressed in a Kimono for dinner and beyond. We enjoyed the whole onsen experience.
Review 103:Extremely friendly staff make you feel very welcome. Perfectly situated for strolling around the onsen in your kimono. Dinner was an experience - opportunity to sample many different types of Japanese cuisine. Setting of the ryokan is fabulous, especially the gardens in the middle.
Review 104:Everything. The staff, the cleanliness, the environment, the service, and whole thing is just perfect. Right from the start of the the stay, being picked up by their luxurious car, until the very moment you lefttheir place, you feel that you are greatly respected and carefully takencared of. They are so attentive to your needs and as long as you arestaying with them, they will take good care of you - even to the extendof wearing yokata and drinking nice tea or ume juice after onsen!i'd say, this is a unrealistic and surreal experience in nishimuraya :) awesome. you have to experience it.
Review 105:Quite simply one of the best places we have ever stayed. The food, the ambience, the room, the garden, the service; the spas; all fabulous beyond words.
