Reviews for Eco Village Iriomote
Review 1:The location is a bit off track, you need a car for sure. Beach is not great, needs some more cleaning. They have a pool but unfortunately also a few fountains for water circulation which make a lot of noise, so if your villa is close to pool you can't sleep with open window given the noise of the pool
Review 2:Nice small rooms directly onto the sea, nice helpful staff, great food (definitely worth eating there, be aware that you have to let them know the day before), location in the middle of know where half way between the 2 main villages
Review 3:¥1500 breakfast, it would like maybe next time American type of breakfast or at least choose my own food! For a Japanese person will be excellent!
Review 4:Everything about it!
Review 5:I enjoyed my stay at Eco Village very much. It's relaxing and very comfortable with a beach and beautiful bay just 50m away. The rooms were clean and very well presented, each with their own little veranda and sun loungers. I wouldn't hesitate recommending it. My only real concern was the location. It's situated halfway between the north and south of the island with most activities occurring in the north. For me personally it didn't turn out to be an issue as I was picked up from the hotel for all my excursions. However, I would recommend having your own transport on Iriomote if possible. Makes life a lot easier.
Review 6:Comfortable beds, very clean, nice terrace, location (with a car), good food (both vegetarians, got our own menu) and very service orientated personnel
Review 7:If you want to move about a lot hire a car or book tours, as the remoteness meant moving at a slow pace.
Review 8:Cooks prepared simple, healthy and delicious strict vegetarian meals for us daily. Staff spoke excellent English (2) and were helpful and courteous. View of the ocean was spectacular.
Review 9:Everything was wonderful!
Review 10:The locatation was perfect for us and we were right on the water! The Eco Village is less than 30 minutes from either port. I suggest having a car to see all there is to see on Iriomote. The food was great and the service was excelant! We had no problem communicating with the staff in English.
Review 11:The location and quality of the rooms was fantastic. Unfortunately the weather was quite bad while we visited, but had it been better, this hotel is a fabulous spot to enjoy the island and relax. The most surprising and best part of the hotel was the kitchen - the food was incredible. We were not expecting much, but the breakfast and dinners were absolutely top quality and extremely affordable. Make sure you eat here when you stay. Staff were very friendly and accommodating (but if you don't speak at least a little Japanese communication will be difficult).
Review 12:be aware that this is a remote location (i.e. Irioremote). 4 buses a day each way requires careful planning of your activities, unless you like walking a lot
Review 13:rooms, extremely helpful staff, food and the location
Review 14:Excellent man at the front desk, who spoke very good English and helped us enormously
Review 15:In this location it is important to have a car or other means of transport, otherwise options to explore the island from here are quite limited
Review 16:No wi-fi in the room!
Review 17:perfect for R&R ; quiet, spacious, clean and fresh air, b=scheduled bus (4 time a day) stop right by the property.
Review 18:Dinner was over-priced for the tiny portions. A rental car would be a good idea as the buses are infrequent and the last bus reached the hotel at 4.30 p.m. However, this would be true if staying anywhere on Iriomote.
Review 19:Helpful staff who went out of their way to make us welcome and comfortable. Our villa was a good size with a great view. The resort was small enough to have an intimate feel - a pleasant departure from many of the resort hotels in these islands which cater to busloads of visitors.
Review 20:The location is isolated and there is nothing around. Best to have an international driver's license as the buses are irregular.
Review 21:Friendly staff, excellent restaurant, clean rooms, nice view of ocean. Would definitely recommend one of the individual villas.
Review 22:The hotel is in the middle of nothing. In off-season this can be boring. 4 buses every day, which is OK for most of the daily activities, but you cannot go out in the evening. Staff is not speaking English
Review 23:Good restaurant and nice staff. Free shuttle to and from the ferry
Review 24:Kind of isolated, nothing to do at night. Staff did not speak English (but with help of google translate in cell phone some communication was possible.
Review 25:Beautiful location, swimming pool next to the ocean. Very friendly staff.
Review 26:There is no lunch available. We ended up eating cup noodles from thehotel store (limited options) which was completely unbelievable to megiven that the hotel is remotely located 30minutes from the nearesttown. We arrived around 1pm and were not told that the only lunch optionwould be the Painu Maya Hotel (onsen hotel located 10mins walk or shortvan ride away) and they stopped serving lunch at 230pm. Therefore, therewas nothing to eat in the area from 230pm until 530pm at dinner. Not myidea of a "resort", but we managed to enjoy our cup noodles and eat anearly dinner on the Eco Village terrace, which was excellent. All inall, just something to be aware of.Additional comments on the downside, when a couple goes to stay at a resort, in the western world they generally would expect one large bed to share and potentially achieve some kind of romantic experience. In Japan, they don't see it this way as almost all hotels have two small twin beds separated instead. Very strange in my opinion, but this is the norm in Japan so not a knock on Eco Village. Further odd things in Japan that also are present at Eco Village is the addition of 1 extra person to a room adds the exact same cost per person even though breakfast is charged a la carte. For example if a room costs 20,000 yen ($250) for 2 people, they will charge an additional 10,000 yen ($125) for a third person even though the only difference to them is laying out a separate mattress. This is ridiculous as it can result in hotel rooms in japan charging $500 a night for a 4 person room that should cost half that! Oh Japan.... when will your consumers realize how much your companies rip them off... probably never.
Review 27:Eco Village is a small intimate experience on the remote island of Iriomote-jima for those looking to get away from it all. The pool is thecenterpiece of the hotel with a beautiful ocean view back drop to giveyou the sense of being in comfort while being surrounded by nature. Thefood at the restaurant is excellent but this is only breakfast anddinner with fairly small menus (bfast is Japanese style but very good). No lunch is available. The staff are tremendously kind and friendly.Overall, a great experience in Iriomote but a few downsides as Imentioned below which are mainly complaints against the hotel practicesin Japan and not Eco Village specifically.
