Reviews for Rayville Boat Houses
Review 1:Since our last visit, it is evident that the upkeep of the premises has dropped. At the time of our stay the property was being maintained by German Backpackers. They were very friendly however the reception office was rarely open. The cottages could have done with more cooking and cleaning equipment. The BBQ did not have a scraper to clean it left there.
Review 2:We are return guests at Rayville. the location is great, The accommodation is spacious and plenty of living area.
Review 3:Sticky floors and furnitures, apartment needs a bit tune up. Windows were very dirty.
Review 4:Location is nice on the great ocean road. Very easy to visit different sights nearby. Bedrooms were nice. Very helpful staff.
Review 5:It was 40° the day of our arrival, with a bushfire not far in the distance. Taking the time to turn on the air con would have been nice given the almost $500 it cost us. Especially knowing we were 4 adults with two sleeping in the loft.
Review 6:Proximity to the beach and city center is awesome. The boat houses are cute and jet tub awesome!
Review 7:Not "serviced" apartments as used to for the price quoted. Given a list of "cleaning" to be done if used..like the oven and cleaning the spa bath if used when checking in. (I don't have to clean the oven or bath in the youth hostel or backpackers). These cleaning conditions should be made obvious on the booking. Not clearly informed of the office hours or the availability of free use of DVD's, books and other items ..which were excellent
Review 8:The bed and pillows - very comfy and the sheets, fresh air (windows and doors that open, close to everything in Apollo Bay but away from traffic noise , yet close to ocean (no view- tiny partial water view from top floor) FREE Wifi was fast and easy to use
Review 9:Very spacious accommodations. Nice kitchen. Comfy living space. Did not need the upstairs. Two couples could have stayed in one unit but not evident to us on Booking.com
Review 10:We paid $560 (!) for one night. The boathouse was equipped for 7 and though basic, bedding was good. Upstairs lounge set for max 6 persons (2 3-seaters). Large kitchen, not very clean. Worst: had to clean and empty the garbage in the downstairs bins outside!!!
Review 11:Location near Great Ocean Road
Review 12:All good
Review 13:Well presented unit with a wood oven which we used on a cold night. Kitchen was well equipped and bed comfortable. The own of Apollo Bay was very beautiful
Review 14:Booked ocean view, well could see the beach out of a tiny kitchen window, fittings starting to get tired. Overpriced for what you get, but maybe that is just Apollo Bay
Review 15:Great location in a beautiful place, nice accommodation. Easy to find.
Review 16:The location is fabulous; 300 metres from Apollo bay town, 100 metres from the beach. You can park your car when arrive and not get in it again until you leave. The young Belgian couple were welcoming and helpful.
Review 17:I was very, very disappointed. The advertisement said it was ocean facing but it wasn't. Towels old and stained. Shampoo was an old 3/4 used bottle. Some painted wood provided for wood burner (would create noxious fumes if used).Cheaply furnished. Bed squeaked very loudly. Floor stains in bathroom. Not value for money. Deceptive owner wanted an extra $150 to get the ocean facing apartment.
Review 18:It looked very nice from outside. It would probably be good for budget family rental, but wasn't priced as a budget room. It was quite spacious.
Review 19:Car parking but small for large vehicles as explained in previous cimments
Review 20:Extremely good bed , parking in carport a very tight for large vehicles , if garden around units cut back a little bit would be easier . Extremely spacious . Very private units made stay very relaxing
Review 21:Didnt have a bad experience but the accommodation could of been a little cleaner more attention to detail needed .
Review 22:easy walk into town and great location for getting to other places.Lots of space for us all to relax in comfort
Review 23:Loved this place from the moment we walked in. The layout was great and the decor was really nice with a subtle nautical theme. It was light and airy but at the same time was cosy and warm with a heat pump and log fire and spa bath. The best part though was that it was away from the centre of town down a quiet little side street and so we both slept undisturbed on all three nights of our stay. It was less than a minute's drive to town though so still very convenient. Also, the bed was extremely comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 24:Residual fish 'juice' left in waste bin - the whole place stank. Dirty surfaces, dirty toaster with crumbs left in. Bathroom surrounds not clean. Windows dirty, overhead fan covered in dust and dirt - generally grubby.
Review 25:main bed was like sleeping on the floor and air con did not work properly and trying to shower in a spa bath not good.
Review 26:close to shops, eateries and quiet location within walking distance to beach.
Review 27:Dishwasher was smelly and had obviously not been cleaned. We didn't use it. Some thing's were obviously repaired and were ok, but was obvious they had been damaged in past. (Bath facet, door dents, very squeaky bed, repainted and re-siliconed surfaces. I was a builder so I noticed these things, most probably would not. :)
Review 28:It was peaceful, clean (with exception for dishwasher), cosy and quaint. Ample space in unit, safe parking and very helpful owners on site.
Review 29:not much to dislike... our towels smelled a little damp, but nothing to complain about.
Review 30:So close to the shops, beach and golf course. Great accommodation for a family or group and a reasonable price. Very large units with all the amenities you need - even a big spa!
Review 31:That we only stayed for one night!
Review 32:The free upgrade to the penthouse room when our room had to be used to accommodate a late booking. The guy who took care of us couldn't have done more - very helpful, friendly and easy to deal with.
Review 33:Make sure you are accurate with the number of people...we booked a two bed but forgot to put three people, so they charged my credit card an extra $25 without permission! Also you would need to be careful taking children here: Spa Cleaner (Poison) Bottle in bathroom in reach of a child with no safety cap, unsecured blind chains...strangling hazard.
Review 34:Location, comfortable enough
Review 35:no washing machine in apartment which i was expecting.. so a little inconvenient and there was extra charge for using dryer.
Review 36:fantastic living areas and huge bathroom. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Fireplace looked inviting but it wasn't cold enough.
Review 37:Booked for two bed room for four. However, while booking online, the booking webpage didnt allow me to choose 4 people.there is only option for 1 or two. Upon check in, demanded $70 extra as booking was for 2. Didnt get answer from owner.
Review 38:Clean
Review 39:i paid Aus$475 for one night for 5 adults and 1 child with booking.com. when we arrived, the staff at "Rayville Boat Houses" told us that the house can only accommodate 5 people, and the 6th person(child) would need to pay an extra $15 for the night. thumbs down for this hotel. there was only 1 double bed in the room and 2 single beds in the 2nd room, with one mattress under one of the single beds, when you needed another bed, you had to pull it out and lie it on the floor near the bedroom door. it wouldn't be safe if there was an emergency occurred. after we paid the $15, the staff gave us an extra mattress for the sixth person, where we could put it any where we liked. with the price we payed we had been treated like we were staying in a youth hostel, thumbs down for this hotel. we were told we had to clean the bathroom and kitchen including emptying bathroom waste and kitchen rubbish before we left, we travel around a lot, we had stayed in a youth hostel before, even youth hostels don't ask us to clean bathroom waste, we payed for a 4 star hotel but we had been offended because it felt like we stayed in a hostel in a poor country, thumbs down for this place. the people who stayed in the 2nd room all got bit by bugs on the face and arms. thumb down to this boat house.
Review 40:when I reached villas , was terribly upset when I was told my booking wasn't "guarantee" as there was no record of my booking although payment was made (credit card cleared and paid) . The male staff was very friendly and patiently explained to me and pass the phone to the owner) . we waited for 30-40 mins and was told tat we could have the villa . By time we checked in, it was almost 430-5pm and we thought to visit the town 1st before coming back to do our laundry but was told ard 7pm( after we return) that we cant use them as they are noisy - the laundry service will obly be opened next day at 10am (though we were offered 9am) - we don't have choice and so went back to town to use the coin laundry instead. don't understand the rationale - laundry service should be available till 10/11pm so that guest can use them after settling down in the villa (there wasn't any sign or notices regarding the operating hours too)
Review 41:other than registration and the facilities
Review 42:Reception was okay but didn't show any enthusiasm for things to do or places to visit in area. For a 2 storey place had expected that the balcony would be on 2nd floor so was disappointed that balcony was on ground floor.
Review 43:Could easily walk to town and beach. Comfortable for 2 but would have been cramped for 4
Review 44:NO CLOCK IN THE ROOM. BATHROOM..TOO DIFFICULT TO MANAGE THE SHOWER. HAD TO STEP OVER THE SPA BATH IN THE SHOWER, NOTHING TO HANG ON TO FOR SUPPORT, TAP WAS LOOSE IN THE THE BATH, ONVIOUSLY PEOPLE HANGING ON TO THE TAP/SPOUT TO BE SECURE IN THE SHOWER. BATHROOM NEEDS A COMPLETE MAKE-OVER, TO MAKE IT ,MORE USER FRIENDLY..NOT JUST FOR MATURE PEOPLE, BUT FOR ALL DEMOGRAPHICS.
Review 45:location.
Review 46:The staff on check in. It was like she wanted an argument....I travel for my job and it was a poor reception.
Review 47:Not a great deal. Bad design of villa. If there are 2 bedrooms up stairs there should be a bathroom upstairs too.The whole complex is jammed in..too many villas on one block!!
Review 48:The carpark was very tight and hard to get into and out of in my family sedan.
Review 49:They quirky boathouses had a good view and was close to the beach. Great facilities and clean. Spa was rather relaxing too.
Review 50:Spa bath was dirty, turned it on and the filters spat out loads of hair and scum, obviously hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time, completely unhygienic! There were cobwebs everywhere and the whole place was a bit tired and grubby.
Review 51:Good location, 5 min walk to shops/beach
Review 52:I was hoping my young kids would be able to sleep up in the mezzanine in the 2 single beds, but the staircase would have been unsafe for them to use in the middle of the night if they needed to get up for the toilet or a cuddle.Staff did provide a child gate but it wasn't adequate. Kids 5yrs and nearly 3yrs slept on the couches so that worked well. I would recommend kids be at least 8 or so before sleeping upstairs. Similar to bunk beds safety.
Review 53:House was clean and comfortable. 2 couches and a decent size dining table for 4. Kitchen with dishwasher and basic crockery etc. Queen bed is actually in the same room and was comfortable. There was a wardrobe, decent size bathroom with spa. There is also a mezzanine level with a small spiral staircase with 2 single beds upstairs. There was also equipment available for use. We used the fishing rods and sand play toys which was good. There were kayaks as well.
Review 54:Allocated a ground floor room next to road so no sea view as indicated and was not informed of location of hotel facilities of spa etc. First night was OK but second night kept awake until 3am by rowdy guests in a nearby room. Despite stated 24hr. supervision no staff on duty so went again to reception next morning to complain but office had hours posted of 2.30pm to 6.30pm with out of hours phone number but as from overseas no access to phone so could not discuss the complaint with anyone. Overall very average and not value for the tariff.
Review 55:Stayed at Rayville Boat Houses on nights of 21st and 22nd December, 2014. Room was spacious, adequate and comfortable.
Review 56:There was no clock radio and putting out the rubbish. For the cost the guests should not have to clean the house before leaving Parking was not easily accessable
Review 57:Quiet surroundings
Review 58:The cost, the Rayville Boat Houses have seen better days, they would have been terrific in the late 90's although are now dated and need an upgrade to command the the cost of stay. I did not like the full accommodation charge de ducted from my credit card the day after booking, no other Booking.Com provider has done this.
Review 59:On site management were helpfull the House was clean neat and tidy.
Review 60:Oven did not work in studio room. Grubby, tired room, cobwebs on patio furniture & dirty wind shields. Room smelt of grease. The owners need to get it deep cleaned and tidy it up. Far too expensive for what it is.
Review 61:Helpfulness of staff member, upgrade to much better room
Review 62:That the split system heater didn't work & the wood fire heater took a long time to warm up the villa. I would hate to of been there in winter
Review 63:The location only
Review 64:The air con needs improvement...didnt cool as much the staircase is too narrow specially if you had young kids like us...rest was very comfortable...
Review 65:Ambience warm friendly and full of life
Review 66:We will be staying at Rayville again. It's location in Apollo Bay is perfect for long stays with young children because it's away from the main tourist strip.
Review 67:One bathroom for 6 adults wasn't enought, especially toilet being in the same room.
Review 68:Views from top level and balcony were great. Living area comfortable.
Review 69:Firewood was left out in the rain so we had to buy our own but other then that I couldn't fault the place.
Review 70:We stayed here for 2 nights in the deluxe loft and it was absolutely lovely and relaxing. Very close walk to the beach and to the town centre :) staff were lovely and we felt very sad to leave. We will definitely be visiting here again soon :)
Review 71:Really all was fine. Its about time the owners gave the place a bit of a freshen up. Small issues were. No frying pan, Wood heater really needed a decent clean out prior to our arrival,Neighbours dog ,If we had kids upstairs it would be really hard to have a nice temp both upstairs and down.
Review 72:Great location with the town/harbour/beach an easy walk. Open fire adds ambiance .
Review 73:Frequent visitors to Apollo Bay (approx. 4 times a year) Probably the worst bed/mattress I have ever slept on. Solely on that we will not book there again
Review 74:loved the wood fire loved the easy of getting around loved the entertaining deck out front
Review 75:The wood heater needed a little work and cleaning.
Review 76:Great location, comfortable unit, wonderful staff, an ideal place for a romantic getaway. Will definitely be back again and for a little longer than an overnight stay next time.
Review 77:Unattended reception. Managers were in Melbourne.Did not see them at all. Penthouse needs some work eg blinds not working, peeling paint, needs a good and thorough clean. Some cleaning aspects eg crumbs still around toaster need addressing. The whole property needs a bit of a spit and polish with some attention paid to the little details
Review 78:The location and aspect of this property is brilliant. Beds were great and we havent had an electric blanket since we were kids.
Review 79:-value for money -high winds the whole building moves and shakes -very cold in the bedrooms
Review 80:-staff were really helpful and lovely - use of golf clubs for free
Review 81:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Location is great.

Review 105:Loved the cosy cabin and particularly the fireplace. The good supply of tea/coffee was appreciated. Beautiful curved staircase to upper level.
Review 106:Heating was poor,2 pieces of wood to work a wood heater each night wasn't good enough
Review 107:Quiet area, easy access and enough to room to move about .
Review 108:Nice units with a great Location on the point. Could walk to the pubs and restaurants, or go to either beach.
Review 109:The units are reasonably private although grouped close together. They allow a lot of natural light & are clean & nicely decorated
