Reviews for Yoshidaya Ryokan

Review 1:It is my second time of stay in this ryokan in Zao. Lots of memories here, familiar face of the staff, so helpful all the time, make us enjoy the visit very much. Price is good, room is so spacious and comfy. Though I didn't book a stay with meal this time, but I can remember how nice the meal was during the trip last year in the same ryokan. Deeply appreciate the staff of providing useful skiing information as well. Thank you very much.

Review 2:No lift. So older people shold stay at 1-2 floor.

Review 3:We come here with the aim for slow life and we've got what we wanted. Staffs are nice and helpful. We have very delicious local food here. Definitly, we'll return.

Review 4:The onsen could do with a repaint/renovation.

Review 5:Manager was very helpful and speaks fluent English. The luggage assistance to take to upper floors was most welcome! Location of the ryokan is excellent as it's close to the free public onsen and very central. Room was large and comfortable.

Review 6:People smoked in the lobby and somewhere in the ground floor.

Review 7:This Ryokan is five minutes walking to the bus stop of Zao Onsen town. It has own onsen and there are 2 free-of-charge public onsens nearby. The owner / staff speaks good English and provides useful information of the town. It also sale discounted ticket to the outdoor onsen which is highlight of this onsen town. Room is large with private toilet and small balcony-like area where you can sit in chairs not on floor and to look at roofs of town and smokes of onsens.

Review 8:I lived in the room near the stairs and I can actually hear people walking outside the corridor (this part is acceptable for me and I think the good part has overcome it)

Review 9:Japanese style room is my favorite part, like the Tatami, Japanese tea with a descent Tea set and also the Yukata The staff is very nice and informative, too (some of them can speak fluent English) Wifi works well and the location is quite good

Review 10:Hotspring inside the ryokan and other 3 free hotsprings available in the town. Beautiful traditional room with private toilet. The host speaks english very well. Tea, towels, yukata available for free.

Review 11:couldn't stay longer.

Review 12:It's a traditional ryokan, so consider that with respect to 'comfort,' but I loved it. Staff is fantastic, location is central and easy to get to from the bus. In all, I loved it and would stay again.

Review 13:Warm welcome from owner. She is really nice guy. We went their on our 2nd wedding anniversary. They prepared very nice stuffs for dinner room decoration. Good meals.

Review 14:Great ryokan with 24-hour public baths in a lovely onsen town with a fantastic, helpful and knowledgeable fluent English-speaking hostess. We got to know the town over three days with some great recommendations from Chiguya-san. Very happy staying here in the off-season, will definitely return to see the "Ice Monsters" one day!

Review 15:The owner of the hotel is extremely friendly, speaks excellent English and is very helpful . The room was big, clean and warm. The breakfast was adjusted according to our wishes. The onsen is amazing! A great experience. The WiFi was good.

Review 16:around 5 to 10 mn walk distance to ski station, onsen 24h inside hotel, public onsen of the village just beside, helpful staff speaks good English which makes the stay much easier.

Review 17:Fantastic traditional accommodation, nice and close to the ski fields, restaurants etc. dinner/ breakfast was available which was very tasty and very we'll priced. The staff is what made it special, excellent service and so helpful. The guest relations manager Chigusa was delightful. Thank you for a lovely stay

Review 18:No elevator. Normally wouldn't be a problem, but could be if you have a snowboarding accident.

Review 19:Staff were friendly and main reception lady spoke good English. Picturesque village.

Review 20:Manager, Chigusa, spoke perfect English which enabled us to save time and money with great tips and vouchers. Western breakfast was good. Perfect to fill up and be ready for a big day on the ski runs close by.

Review 21:If you are looking for a pampered hotel room in a brand-new building, this isn't the place you are looking for. However, if you prefer nice, reasonably priced hotel with nice staff and simple comfortable japanese-style rooms, very close to the ski fields, this place is great! Note that the shower facilities are in the sulfur onsen. The onsen is great, but like the whole town has a strong sulfur smell. I can say, though, this is one of the best-located, most thoroughly japanese and friendly ryokan I have been to in many years!

Review 22:Steep staircase especially when up on the 3rd floor.

Review 23:Very helpfull staff, great service, perfect location right in town. Short walk to lifts, we found walking down the road easiest.

Review 24:We had a great time skiing in Zao. The staff at Yoshidaya were very welcoming, and it was a lovely experience to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan. The onsen after a day on the slopes couldn't have been better (although it was very hot!) would definitely recommend staying here.

Review 25:very friendly English-speaking hostess who provided excellent recommendations and made our stay really great. The Ryokan was in a perfect spot and while large, felt homey. we would definitely stay there again - and would love to come back and visit this lovely town in summer!

Review 26:The smell coming from the heater

Review 27:Very friendly staff, excellent location Clean, cheap. Excellent English speaking staff Great value for breakfast (not included in the price but ask!)

Review 28:The lady here is so unbelievably help full. So kind and nice and always happy and smiling. All staff are Brilliant to talk to and very welcoming. Nice, cosy, well equipped warm rooms with futon beds which are understandably harder than a sprung mattresses but comfy all the same. Very close to slopes, shops, resturants and bus station. Brilliant breakfast. Discounted lift passes and a very hot onsen.

Review 29:-Few electrical outlets inside the room itself. -I only regret not leaving a tip!

Review 30:-Excellent service. -Excellent English. -Excellent food. -Excellent location right at the base of stairs to the local shrine. Very close to public baths (the location has its own bath and shower as well).

Review 31:Although they had plenty of rooms available and it was in the midst of summer, we got shown to a room next to a guy who kept us up most of the night. Although it was at no fault of the owner, she could have moved us to another room quite easily when she showed us our room or taken note that he could play up. Security did end up coming but that wasn't until the wee hours of the morning. We had a big day ahead of us and unfortunately, it wasn't very much enjoyed due to our tired state. At breakfast we were served traditional Japanese breakfast which was average. The poached egg was extremely runny that neither of us could even could attempt to pick it up with our chop sticks.

Review 32:Staff were great. Owner speaks English this is a plus.

Review 33:Very friendly staff, great location and delicious breakfast.

Review 34:the drying room is not that dry....

Review 35:nice staff. delicious meal with reasonable price. traditional japanese "TaTaMi" room.

Review 36:No elevator

Review 37:Relax place, good food and nice staff.

Review 38:Facility is a bit old.

Review 39:Great service!

Review 40:Very friendly owner with perfect english skills

Review 41:No Aircon. Just a small table fan. Could be a challenge for hot summer days

Review 42:There are a few choices of dinner to choose from.

Review 43:i need softer pillow, just small matter... Haha

Review 44:Convenience location, friendly with speaking good english

Review 45:Great hospitality and fluent English spoken.

Review 46:Everything. Convenient location. Super nice lady who runs the place. In-house onsen. Clean Japanese room. Would definitely want to come back again.

Review 47:Beds, shower and pyjamas all rocked!

Review 48:Good location in a small old city, good onsen, good staff, comfort and nice room, free automatic massage chair at the reception.

Review 49:The lady at reception speaks good English and very friendly... When she found me limping; change our room to 1st floor... THANKS!

Review 50:Exceptional service. English speaking host made us very welcome and also met us at bus station. Room was spacious with a view and had a private toilet.

Review 51:It was very cold in the room (there was a lot of draft, and the insulation was poor). It is also good to know that your clothes start smelling like gunpowder (due to the sulphur in the water), and this smell is very hard to get out of your clothes. Not the fault of the hotel (they warn you), but important to know and plan accordingly.

Review 52:Great and friendly staff. Very good onsen in the house. Very flexible staff. Great food. We are vegan and they could still cook some wonderful food for us, which is very rare and highly appreciated!

Review 53:One room was very good but one had a leaky window in the sitting/bathroom area with snow on the inside!!

Review 54:Very helpful owner who speaks fluent English. Traditional rooms. Good location close to Gondola. Has its own onsen.

Review 55:The only thing I can think of is the breakfast start time that is a little late (7.30) for people (like me) looking to an early start to enjoy as much outdoor activity as possible. But that is not even a complaint, just a tiny observation!

Review 56:It is right in the Zao Onsen village, near (walking distances, only a few minutes wherever you are going) to everything you can think of: the ski slopes in winter, the cable car both in winter and summer, the convenience store, the souvenir shops, mountain trails, numerous hot springs, etc... The ryokan itself offers fantastic value for the money, with superclean rooms with all the comfort needed (Internet, TV, 24 hour bath facilities, strong heater)

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:The receptionist Ms Chigusa is so friendly and would not hesitate to assist her customers when we have any doubt. Nice traditional Japanese environment and with 24 Hour Onsen. Situated at the main Onsen street, its easily accessible. Food was great and room was clean and comfortable:)

Review 59:The guest relations lady was very helpful and spoke good English, and I could request for her assistance to recover my hat that I had accidentally dropped the night before at a restaurant. She was helpful with places to visit, where to eat etc. Nice, clean hotel and easily accessible to important places.

Review 60:Everything... This Ryokan was homely, welcoming, and cosey! First onsen I tried, and after trying others it is the best and most authentic. Western breakfast at request, all tourist questions answered. Well located in gorgeous Zao, best ski resort experience yet! Please go, I recommend it.

Review 61:Cigarette smoke from other rooms and the room heating that runs on gas and you need to open the window a bit in order to have fresh air.

Review 62:Friendly staff and good location.

Review 63:There was nothing I didn't like. This hotel is modest, but was themost reasonably priced, friendly and had the best facilities out ofanywhere we stayed in Japan.

Review 64:Very friendly staff who spoke English. The food was fantastic. We werethere in a quiet time and they came to pick us up from the bus station, even though it is only a short walk. The rooms are very tidy andgenerous, with lovely views. Two public onsen are in 30 second walkingrange, but the hotel's onsen was awesome.

Review 65:Great service, and fluent English speakers. Good lovation.

Review 66:English speaking manager, very friendly and very competent. The hot bath is accessible 24h. Wifi is provided throughout the establishment.

Review 67:Friendly and very helpful owner, speaks very good english. Good location.

Review 68:there was nothing not to like.

Review 69:the friendly staff, the onsena and there massage chair, close to the snow lifts.
