Reviews for Irumoteso

Review 1:Be aware that the Uehara ferry is often cancelled in winter due to high winds so you have to go to Ohara port instead. But this wasn't really an issue as there is a connecting bus run by the ferry company.

Review 2:We had a wonderful stay here. The lady who owns the property and her assistant couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. She picked us up from Uehara ferry port so no problems finding it. We had a lovely large room with sea view and the futons were in fact very comfortable. We found the location to be totally fine for us as we had a hire car (which the owner Kyoko arranged for us). We did a one day Kayak and trek to the Painasara falls and it was fabulous (again arranged for us by the owner). We didn't want to leave and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Review 3:The owner was the sweetest lady on earth. Made phone calls for us. Drove us to and from the ferry port and to the market and bus stop. One of our best accommodations. Can't really say enough good things.

Review 4:My only reservations are pretty high price to pay for pension of this standard, even considering Japan, and the inconvenient location of the object , but with a very good view of the city and the bay. The road to the port ( center ) and back is approx. 1.5 hours at a leisurely pace. This could be a real issue given the inconvenient and scarce public transport on the island.

Review 5:In this guest house guest may feel like at home . The owner is an incredibly warm , friendly and helpful person that will make even the shortest stay well remembered. I consider high ratings to be reasonable given the comfort of accommodation, amenities and the size of rooms and service.

Review 6:Lovely owner who helped me practice some Japanese and generally was incredibly helpful and made us feel extremely welcome. The dinner was tasty home cooked faire. Basic but sufficient complementary breakfast available too.

Review 7:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Also offers bikes to hire which is a great way to explore the island. Great food and views from the garden - excellent value for money.

Review 8:The staff are very friendly and so helpful, giving us lifts to and from the port, sorting out a rental car for us and giving advice on where to visit. The breakfast was really good and filling. The room was very big and had a lovely sea view.

Review 9:A bit far from town

Review 10:A great family owned place. Huge room with 2 ACs! And a good shower. Helpful with travel planning and arrangements. Gave us a ride to / and from the ferry

Review 11:The hostel is up on a hill, so you need to walk a bit (30 minutes) to get to Uehara or organize a transport. Overall the location is a bit remote, buses run only very infrequently, but that's what makes your stay special here and people usually help you out to get anywhere you want.

Review 12:Irumoteso is a former youth hostel. It is run by a very friendly elderly woman. When we stay here she had a lot of Japanese students and young people helping here. Sometimes there was more staff than guests, so we had a great service. The young team was really helpful and friendly and they also take you to the beach and explain things about food, culture etc. It's easy to get to know people here. The owner is a great cook, you get typical Okinawan food for dinner. You can rent bikes from her for little to explore the island. The room was large, clean, we missed nothing. The few from the yard is beauftil.

Review 13:Nothing!

Review 14:This place was wonderful! It was clean and comfortable with a lovely large room. We had a nice balcony. The was a nice common area where we ate a simple but good breakfast. The staff were great and very helpful and kind. We rented bikes from them for a reasonable price. They picked us up at the ferry terminal.

Review 15:Very friendly staff.. We had a very bid room with bathroom inside and two A/C. It's a little bit far from anywhere, but the view is so beautiful that you barely don't car about that...

Review 16:Great staff and beautiful location. The room was super confortable and clean. Very highly recommended. If you go to Iriomote in better to rent a car or motorbike so you can drive around the Island. The hotel is about 15-20 min walk from the ferry station but they will pick you up if you tell them your arrival time.

Review 17:Spacious room for 2 people with amazing sea view. Mrs. Seki made great effort to help us organize our trips around the island (river kayaking, cross-island traverse..) and was super friendly, we felt as if at home. 5 days on Iriomote was the high point of our 3-week Japan vacation.

Review 18:We stayed there for 2 nights and we have our own showeroom and toilet in the room. It is a very clean and comfortable room. And we have an amazing view from our room. We enjoyed a lot of stay! We will return definitely!

Review 19:The host was really attentive to our needs and even went out of her way to deliver some of our forgotten items to our next hotel after we had checked out.

Review 20:We were a couple with a two-year girl. The host lady Keiko-san is very nice. We had a great sea-view room. The room is super clean and very large. The hotel is about 15-min walk from Uehara port but Keiko-san offers free pickup and deliver. In a word, highly recommended!

Review 21:We had a private room and bathroom and we traveled out of season so there was only one other couple at the hostel. The owner, Seki-San, is the heart of this place, a wonderful woman who runs the hostel and cooks a wonderful evening meal (which you should order every day as Iriomote has few restaurants). She will pick you up and drop you off at the ferry terminal.

Review 22:Our room was spacious and had a lovely view, but it was sparsely furnished and could have been more cosy.

Review 23:Our dynamic hostess, who was truly inspirational. She was very helpful and arranged for bus timetables and boat connections. Much appreciated! Good dinners. The garden, and the sea-view, which I had not expected. The other guests, who were friendly and provided tips of things to do.

Review 24:Clean, simple set up. Upstairs front rooms have views. Sunset drinks on the roof are great. Bikes are available to get around. very friendly owner willing to help out offer advice on activities, transport, state of the world etc.

Review 25:What I liked most was the atmosphere of the place : peaceful and very friendly. The owner is awesome, there is no other words. She does everything from the pick-up at the ferry to the dinner (which you don't want to miss). Rooms and showers are large (which is quite rare in Japan) and perfectly clean.

Review 26:Wonderful location with incredibly warm and welcoming staff. Kyoko (the owner) welcomes guests on an evening with "welcome home". The meals offered are great in taste and value for money. The views are spectacular! We didn't want to leave.

Review 27:Just a little difficult to find

Review 28:Breakfast, the room and facilities were so clean and the host is the sweetest lady!

Review 29:very friendly staff, who really cares about their guests and tries to make the stay as unforgettable as possible. Don't miss mamas dinner.

Review 30:The meals prepared by SekeSan

Review 31:Everything was perfect. We loved the people, the food, the view, the starry sky... and the rooms were very comfortable.

Review 32:This plac felt Like home. Fantastic spacious tatami rooms. Sqeaky clean. Lovely owner. Make sure to order the homemade dinner. Faboulous garden.

Review 33:location (rental car absolutely needed)

Review 34:very spacious room, beautiful setting (garden)

Review 35:The location is very convenient and the lady who runs the place is adorable and an excellent cook! Dont miss the evening meals!

Review 37:Kyoko, the owner, run everything perfectly in this nice hotel. Awesome garden. Delicious dinner. Excellent experience

Review 38:The lovely seaview, peaceful atmosphere, excellent food and a very friendly and helpful staff! Thank you Kyoko for a good time

Review 39:Expensive compared to other places I stayed.

Review 40:Bicycles Clean Big garden Nice people

Review 41:Excellent staff! Close to the bus stop and ferry building. Staff helped me plan out my daily activities, called to make my reservations, and invited me to go with them to the annual mangrove festival in the evening. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. Air conditioning and lots of windows in the room was great.

Review 42:Really friendly personal. Make sure to eat dinner there. Really delicous and for a good price. Location is remote like everywhere on Iriomote. Staff helps you out if u need assistance for tours.

Review 43:Close to the Uehara port (5 minutes by car), gorgeous view, excellent coral reefs just in 10 minutes drive. Very friendly english-speacking staff. The rooms are clean and in a very good condition with powerful air conditioners. Recommend to everyone!

Review 44:I loved this place so much! The two ladies who run it were amazing - so helpful and friendly. It was a pleasure to meet them and I just wish we could have stayed longer. We were picked up from the ferry port (when you buy your boat ticket at the ishigaki ferry terminal they will ask if you want them to ring your hotel so the owners know what time to pick you up) and asked if we wanted to book the dinner option that night, which we accepted. I'm so glad we did because it was one of my favourite meals in japan! It was a great example of traditional japanese cooking and included about 7 little dishes made with tofu, vegetables and pork and of course a miso soup. We also booked the breakfast there which consisted of juice, breads, bacon and veg. Our room was huge and had an ensuite bathroom and nice views. We got free bike rental due to having booked through booking.com and explored the island a bit on those. I would definitely recommend this hostel and definitely recommend making the trip over from ishigaki to see this lovely island.

Review 45:Owned and managed by a very kind family, speaking both japanese and english. They were very helpful, and we could ride their bikes to visit the island. Fantastic location on top of a hill facing the sea. We did not book breakfast nor dinner, but could find some local restaurants 5 min by bike. Local people are very friendly, although they barely speak japanese. Will come back there again

Review 46:Nothing

Review 47:A friendly place where Seki, the owner, makes you feel like at home. She is extremely gentle and excellent cooker. Hotel surroundings are beatiful, but island is even better. Our best experience at all in Japan

Review 48:- Welcoming, very helpful and fun staff- Spacious room with great views and good facilities - Excellent meals (choice of Japanese and Western) - Quiet location on a hill overlooking the bay - Good opportunities for short walks, and a bus stop nearby

Review 49:no television in the room, approx. 20 minutes walking to the supermarket and port

Review 50:Very friendly and helpful staff, very good cosy atmosphere, good food, very good views to the ocean, very nice location, which is well maintained and includes a big garden, meeting and talking to other holiday makers, English speaking staff

Review 51:The manager (owner) is an amazing cook and a wonderful host. She deeply cares about the customers and she makes sure everything is just perfect. Amazing treatment at all levels

Review 52:The host was wonderful and made our stay perfect. She was able to help us with our plans on the island and off. The food is delicious. The hotel is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the venture up the hill - the views are incredible.

Review 53:A friendly and nice place with a big garden and fine ocean view. The staff is very helpful, friendly and cooks really good food!
