Reviews for The Magellan Sutera

Review 1:Staff are very average. .had very average house keeping staff and the reception staff were completely inexperienced and inefficient in clearing problems. They need more staff there to handle the crowd. ..900 rooms and only three people in the reception! !

Review 2:The location and cleanliness.

Review 3:The check in process was a little bit slow considering all information was available when I booked the room.

Review 4:The sea view was fantastic especially just before sunset.

Review 5:many, really many Chinese people having rest specifically, which sometimes is annoying for europeans

Review 6:nice location nice hotel everything is great! nice NY party and fireworks. nice food for included breakfast

Review 7:When we order anything to the room it's take time and sometimes they are confused about your order, we asked non smoking room but they put us in smoking room

Review 8:The location is fantastic, the stuff are helpful and very kind, they have everything to enjoy your vacation

Review 9:To balance the laudatory comment, it is only fair to the reader and the management to make one or two constructive points: a. Of the 2 nights we spent in the early evenings in the Club Lounge, it more resembled a childrens’ nursery, at 6pm, awaiting the arrival of parents; the screeches and noise were deafening. b. Notwithstanding San’s management control, there appeared to be little evidence of Junior or Senior Management presence to the extent that I, personally, had to ask one of the towel attendants to turn down the excessive noise of music he was playing much to the infuriation of the Club Lounge guests. c. We were persuaded to have Xmas Eve dinner (buffet) in the Marina Café at 280rm and a bottle of wine at 116 rm.The quality, provision and service of the dinner was awful; thus the poor attendance. Formal Xmas Eve dinners at the Empire Country Club and Radisson (Brunei) were much better value. d. The very young staff in the Club Lounge worked very hard but it was not the case for the remainder of staff in the hotel. In short, if you want this hotel to meander into a tacky package holiday resort, you might be on your way unless you recover control, add finesse to your staffs training, get your Managers out of their offices and raise your game.

Review 10:This is a very large hotel, really a resort. Rooms over Christmas were expensive and we paid to have Magellan Club rooms which made our stay very comfortable. All the trimmings of the upgrade ie Club Dining Room, Evening Drinks with finger buffet, very comfortable room etc. were greatly enjoyed and we were served by a very willing, energetic and enthusiastic young staff. San, in particular, in the Magellan Club Lounge, worked hard, was particularly attentive and a fine ambassador for the hotel. As was his female deputy.

Review 11:The check in was one of the worst we have ever experienced any where in the world. Inexperienced staff led to a catalogue of unhappy experiences, in all areas of the hotel. The restaurants down stairs by one of the pools felt like a butlins camp rather than a 5 star hotel environment .

Review 12:We liked Rehman, he was the on duty manager. He helped us sort out our problems with the hotel and upgraded us to club. The club was the only 5 star part of the hotel.

Review 13:Poor reception service (Norah) when we checked in. She was unobservant that we waited for service for close to 1 minute as she was "busy" engaged with her colleague until another staff called her out that we were waiting for service. That side, her poor command of English did not help much. Rather poor maintenance of our room where the shower faucet was very loose and the "window" partition between the bedroom and bathroom came loose on one side. That aside, we noticed that the floor (bathroom) was not cleaned well on the 2nd. day of our stay - strands of hair were still on the floor. Reported the poor maintenance of our room to the day shift staff on the 2nd. day plus requested for 2 pairs of hotel slippers. Noticed that the condition remained unchanged and slippers were nowhere to be seen. On our last night, @ 11'ish, we had to call the front office 4 times to report extremely noisy neighbours. The inconsiderate neighbours talked so loudly that the security had to be called the 2nd. time.

Review 14:The friendly staff & service of Little Magellan especially Ikram & Jual, The staff (Rehman) was super friendly when we checked out. We believe he encapsulates what service in hospitality sector is all about.

Review 15:Shuttle bus service is chargeable

Review 16:Buffet breakfast good spread, hotel is big , nice thoughts of the hotel on our 2nd last day , complementary snacks and drinks for us to enjoy the Sunset

Review 17:I drove there and the hotel security were rude and extremely unhelpful and my mother was served raw chicken. I would not expect this in a 5 star hotel. More attention needs to paid to their security staff

Review 18:The pool and food were good

Review 19:HOWEVER, I do now know why; when I arrived on 2nd Dec, 2015 (nealy midnight). The robby of the resort and the whole wings (till the room door), were filled with ordour (like toilet smell). That remaind nealy for 2 days and stopped on the last day of my stay. which was bad. Also, the room's got new curtain (rather than wooden blind as year 2013), and the new curtain is hideous. Sun bed cution needs new outfit and bathtowel is too worn. The food quality of Ferdinands and Silk garden were dropped compared to 2013. Breakfast at Five sails is still good, but not really good. Could do better.

Review 20:This is my second visit and I love this place. The resort itself is lovely (although certain part definately needs renovation). Location is perfect; 10mins to the International airport and 10 mins to the City centre. The resort is built on the seashore, which gives direct view of the South China Sea which is amazing.

Review 21:1) Arrive hotel and check in at 2:00. The staff told me that the room is not ready and ask me to come back again at 2:30. I have already made a remark to have early check in through booking. It is not reasonable the room is not ready because the room is not yet tidy up after two o'clock. 2:00 is a normal check in time. 2) The Union pay credit card could not be used because the hotel credit card system is out of order. The staff has tried to wipe card for many times but was not successful. Finally I need to exchange HK$ to MYR and pay cash. 3) The equipment in gym. is lack of maintenance. Some equipments are found rusty.

Review 22:The facilities are very good. 3 swimming pools and gym. in the hotel.

Review 23:hotel prepare shuttle however not that frequent, beach a bit small

Review 24:The hotel has huge pool which my kids love it to much. Breakfast is great with lots of variety. Lots of nice restaurant in the compound. Love the happy hours at al fresco restaurant.. And ambience too!

Review 25:Rude and unfriendly staffs. Booked two rooms with sea view and got two rooms with coconut trunks and leaves view. Rooms are slightly dusty with a pungent weird smell.

Review 26:The view is breathtaking. Property design is unique. Plenty of beach chairs located around the property for the comfort of the guests. Great location.

Review 27:Free wifi in the room, but it was not working/signal too weak.

Review 28:Location is good, staff are friendly & helpful. Beautiful Golf course, huge pools & on its beach you can find marine fishes. Great place for family with young kids too.

Review 29:A bit noisy due to the vicinity of the airport bad smell in the morning probably due to the sea and limited food selection as mostly only buffet style available

Review 30:Staff very helpful and accommodating, nice location

Review 31:The staff very helpful and kind.. especially the front desk staff mamed Andrian.. Tq Andrian my husband so happy with the surprise at 12 midnight ?? and i have a nice view from my room (managed to change)

Review 32:Not much! Was all pretty good!

Review 33:The food! Nasi Goreng at Fresco and a great meal at Ferdinand. Wonderful environment. Lovely room. Good value for money.

Review 34:Mosquitoes in most common open areas. No sweetener (sugar substitute like aspartame or Splenda) in cafe. Rooms show signs of age.

Review 35:Bed and pillows are very comfortable.

Review 36:Our Magellan Club room was very spacious and comfortable. The staff in the Magellan Club were very helpful. Especially San. We appreciated the tranquility and peacefulness. Would definitely return to this wonderful resort

Review 37:Reception is horrible. There were 6 staff at reception desk when check-in, but only 2 of them could do check-in process. Other 4 people were going here and there busy, but did nothing. Just checking and checking again same things. It took 20 minutes to complete check-in. I waited for my luggage, but it didn't come. I waited for 30 minutes, and I called 2 times to the reception, and I received my luggage 40 minutes later. When check-out time, there were 6 people at the reception also, but the situation was same. Only 2 people did their work. I was about to be crazy. It took 25 minutes to leave the desk. I'll never go again this resort with this price. "BIG", that's all.

Review 38:Location is not bad. Close from the airport, and I could reach almost all places like shopping malls and Jesselton point within 10min. by taxi.

Review 39:One of the restaurants, Alfresco, the service was very slow. One time waited 20 minutes just for a lemonade & another 15 for the meal. Also another time my sons meal came 20 minutes after mine

Review 40:Good service from hotel staff, great rooms, near activities & attractions

Review 41:Staff at reception could look a little more excited. As this resort was a little out of town it could be a little more price friendly (not so expensive) with the different activities they provide for guests.

Review 42:This is an impressive looking hotel, where it is a good place to relax either on your own private room balcony or at one of the other cool locations e.g pool side/ or in a bar next to the sea. Breakfest was pretty good, with some good choses.

Review 43:The food at The Five Sails restaurant, very average. The staff at Al Fresco need more training in their listening skills and being attentive to their customers around the pool.

Review 44:The staff at The Club - San, Rosalyn and the team - were very polite, helpful and took an interest in us and our needs

Review 45:I still found lots of dust in my room The hotel should provide timely free shuttle services at least to the city center which is just a 5 mins drive from the hotel

Review 46:The hotel staff are very friendly, I've got the harbor view room as requested and the view is just wonderful. Facilities for children are great...the pool and the Little Magellan..the breakfast spread was really good

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Excellent hotel and worth the extra cost for Club rooms ( A la carte Breakfast + complimentary drinks and canapes 5.30-7pm. Staff brilliant. Convenient for airport

Review 49:There was no map to find the room. Since the room number does not correspond to the floor level, it would be more helpful to have a map of the rooms for the convenience of the occupants.

Review 50:I like the view from the room and the comfortable beds!

Review 51:Admin staff at front desk were terrible, we weren't provided our room until after 5pm on check in (waited for 3 hours). Very poorly organised. There was a lady (staff) clipping her finger nails at the service counter of Muffins (cafe), simply disgusting. Never again and certainly wouldn't recommend Magellan Sutera to anyone. This is the first negative review i've ever left too.

Review 52:Comfy bed and cleaning staff/bar staff were lovely.

Review 53:Room cleaning still much to improve. Breakfast dinning was crowded and better foods. Twice I visited last the lifts wasn't in working condition.

Review 54:Clean liners, nice settling, friendly concierges.

Review 55:Excellent facilities. Lying on the sofas/chairs overlooking the islands and the sunset was an amazing experience. Breakfast had everything imaginable from omelettes to chilli squid.

Review 56:Breakfast at club slightly slow, waiting more than half an hour. More varieties at the main building.

Review 57:Kids love the both sided pool and beach. Nice weather and beautiful view from our club room.

Review 58:I landed early in KK before hotel checking time but went to the resort to check in. The hotel reception staff could not find my reservation so instead I was told to wait for awhile until they check things out. At abt 12.00 noon the hotel staff collected the hotel room cost and deposit abt RM4K but did not explain to me that we were not able to check in until 2 pm. But why did they collect the room cost then so I had to go to the nearest shopping mall to past the time. Then when we got the keys my room was not available for abt 2 hrs as there was a leakage in the bathroom. The hotel staff still did not explain to me and was left stranded without a room. I was abt to go to the reception to complain until one of the staff handed me the key to a substituted room which was not sea view which I paid for. I was rather annoyed and upset as this is a 5 star resort but they were inefficient on handling the matter. I hope they would improve their services.

Review 59:I like the location. It was a short distance to all the tourist places and shopping malls. The view of the sea was breathtaking too.

Review 60:Hotel facilities are excellent but service is appalling which ruins the holiday buzz. 1) Check in staff were inexperienced. We were passed around from one staff to another even though there were no other guests. A receptionist by the name of Norie was on the phone and ignored us even though we were standing in front of her for 10 mins to be checked-in. 2) Room booked was sea view but we were given garden view. They insisted it was sea view. We asked for a change and had to approach 3 receptionists and waited for 2 hours before being given a room. 3) We were prohibited from eating at the lounge deck even though it was only 2 metres from the inside seating area. The most preposterous rule for a hotel to implement. We were given a menu but told we could not eat at the lounge area. Service staff are very inexperienced and unwelcoming. 4) We had to pay for the water that we asked at the poolside. This is the first time I have ever come across a hotel charging for water at the poolside. Overall, it felt like a military camp rather than a luxury resort.

Review 61:Bed was comfortable Nice outdoor lounge/bar by the sea

Review 62:The only dissapounted r was the kids screaming in the pools , really should be a adults only area of the pool but I no it's very difficult here

Review 63:The staff were exellent, room which was sea view was fabulous. Breakfast amazing, pool was lovely, happy hour was great

Review 64:No beach! We were hoping for a beach, but the super tiny, rocky inlet is not a beach. The one way over at the Pacific was bigger, but closed due to jellyfish. Very disappointed, and will likely be the reason we won't return.

Review 65:We booked a Magellan Club room, and were upgraded on arrival to a larger suite. The staff in the Magellan Club were excellent, especially San.

Review 66:I hope breakfasts have more less spice 'cause I'm not familiar with that It was very hard time to get it.

Review 67:Water pools are 5 and very near to my room, they are wonderful

Review 68:The only downside are the pretty high prices for food and drinks on site, but the food is really good!

Review 69:Great resort with very nice pool areas, good facilities and super friendly staff! Rooms are spacious and luxurious and we thouroughly enjoyed our stay. Regular shuttle to city is available for a small fee and on site agents make tour plannings easy

Review 70:It was very busy as there was a Chinese holiday and there were alwayslong queues at breakfast time. The doors on the rooms close with a veryloud "BANG" and voices echoed down the hallways. The pool barwas not in operation.

Review 71:Location on the coast, very econimal shuttle bus on the hour, friendlystaff and comfortable rooms, use of facilities at sister hotel nearby.

Review 72:Wifi is a little buggy and requires repeated login or crashes sometimes entirely.

Review 73:The sight of the entrance hall is really something to behold. Even though we had a garden view room, we could still see the ocean from the balcony.

Review 74:The staff did not reserve suitable beds for us hence i have decided to upgrade the room for better experiences. But it turned out just ok.

Review 75:I like the location as it's beside the beach so you can see the sunset everyday. It's ideal for a relaxing trip.

Review 76:The sand beach is very small and not safe due to jelly fish

Review 77:Very comfort and nice hotel every thing is perfect from check in to check out. I am totally recommends this hotel

Review 78:We stayed at The Magellan for 7 nights to celebrate our 25Th Wedding Anniversary and we were upgraded to a 1 Bedroom King Suite overlooking the Harbour. The Staff in the whole Resort were amazing.

Review 79:Very noisy in our wing. Doors slam and are not sound proof. Corridors have no carpet and voices and doors echo all night. A band played in foyer every night till late and could be heard in room.

Review 80:Location, cleanness and staff were great.

Review 81:maintenance of property is lacking.Breakfast was not something to look forward to.venue was dirty crowd unmanageable and unsupervised.hotel felt like mass market group hotel rather than resort.staff were all pleasant but supervisors lacking in presence .cleanliness and maintenance issues like lift breakdown spoilt the stay at the hotel.

Review 82:The junior staff were all pleasant and accommodating.

Review 83:Lack of a proper sandy beach - the one they have is small, rough sand, with rubbish. Some rubbish can be seen floating in the sea and stuck between rocks nearby.

Review 84:Clean, comfy, great sleep, less noise (thanks to higher floors in the Magellan Club)

Review 85:The check-in for the club room was a bit further compared to the normal check-in counter which we dropped by. Some of the chairs had very old stains as it wasn't very well maintained.

Review 86:Staff service was superb. Location is great as it is still a resort but you will never be afraid to be late to the airport as its just about 5-10mins taxi.

Review 87:If I had a gripe, it would be the waitering service at the club lounge. While the staff were most friendly, courteous and helpful, the service, from clearing and setting the table to taking and delivering the order, could be improved. It could be due to a little short-staffed or inadequate training, or both.

Review 88:I had booked a Magellan Club room but was delighted to be told that we were upgraded to an Executive Suite when checking in. The suite was sumptuously furnished with a magnificent sea view. The hotel, being part of the Sutera Resort that also includes a marina and country club, a golf club and another hotel, offers a plethora of eateries, swimming pools and sports and gym facilities. We also took advantage of the water sports centre located in the resort, and had a fun time playing jet ski and parasailing. As Club Room guests, we had access to the club lounge that's open 24/7, where free breakfast and evening cocktail were served. And, we got to enjoy, and cherish, something that comes completely free - arguably the best sunset you'll ever get to experience!

Review 89:Too child friendly, would have been great to have the kids play area a bit away from relaxing by the pool.

Review 90:Very luxurious hotel, room was outstanding. Full of children, not the best for a young couple but we still really enjoyed it. A great place to relax after some travelling.

Review 91:Everything was excellent except for a bit of maintenance issue with the elavator. The elevator didnt come for a very long time and it happened at least 3 times so we had to walk down the stairs from the fifth floor

Review 92:Club has a seperate checkin but it is hard to find. But that is minor. Wifi is inconsistent.

Review 93:Room was lovely bed was comfortable.having a dvd player was great made us want one wherever we stay. Food was good we ate dinner at the Al Fresco restaurant it was very nice. Pool was fantastic.

Review 94:Facilities need renovations in general. Gym towels and yoga mattresses were crying for replacement. Internal shuttle bus seems unnecessarily large as it always moves several passengers only. 24/7 convenience store has to be there in the complex given the distance from down town.

Review 95:Excellent location and variety of choices for leisure activities.

Review 96:It would have been nice if complimentary bedroom slippers were provided.

Review 97:We arrived mid-morning and the front desk person, Ms.Kartini was very helpful as she accommodated our request for an early check-in and even provided us with a complimentary upgrade to a seaview room, which was much appreciated. During our stay, all of the staff were very courteous and helpful and we especially liked the prompt shuttle bus service into the city, which was very convenient. All in all it was a good stay.

Review 98:Thought lack of n airport pick up was a bit poor. Our room needed a little maintaince, shower head kept falling off, and a few other minor things, missing light bulbs.

Review 99:Buffet breakfast was one of the best, so much choice and fresh. All meals we had at the resort were very good and reasonably priced. Pool was lovely as were the friendly staff.

Review 100:Don't try walking to or from the city centre. It doesn't look far, but the location - and the road system - means you have to take a taxi (or the efficient hotel shuttle bus).

Review 101:We were in the Marina Wing, where the rooms looked to have been recently refurbished and were extremely luxurious. Nice pool, a great spot to watch the sunsets, and very friendly staff.

Review 102:Everything is good, except the wifi. Need to improve Wifi signal, wifi is very slow at most of the time.

Review 103:The swimming pool is nice and you can enjoy the beautiful sunset there. Comfortable and amazing.

Review 104:n/a

Review 105:The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The facilities were excellent - my daughter enjoyed the pools very much. The location is ideal. Not too near the city and still very accessible.

Review 106:Buildings and area was planned poorly as far too much dead open space. Air con drove me nuts as it when on automatically when you left the room. This came back to a freezer. Weirdly hot water not working fully - maintenance guy was really lovely though Front desk staff a bit aloof and check in process a little backward

Review 107:You get access to the Magellan facilities plus the Country club and Pacific hotel. Country club has big gym, squash courts and 50m pool! Lots of places to eat/drink. Pools are great. Breakfast so so Rooms were good as you had a balcony Very good value as paid only USD120

Review 108:Food and drink prices at restaurants a bit overpriced for the quality. Night entertainment can be improved.

Review 109:The peaceful environment and hotel service.

Review 110:The place is large and some parts need a bit of refreshing.

Review 111:Nice place. Very friendly personnel and management. Flexible when asked about some (2 h.) flexibility with checkout, highly appreciated. Place definitely worth a visit.

Review 112:We tried a buffet dinner at the Pacific Sutera, but the food was not really up to standard for a hotel resort of this level, the cost of the meal was very high compared to what we ate. Getting a taxi was a hit and miss experience. Some drivers were good, others asked for tips or gave poor suggestions for attractions.

Review 113:The management should be very proud of their staff. I was pleasantly surprised to see, without exception, happy smiles on all of the staff and without a doubt the friendliest service I have ever encountered in my twenty years of travelling. Even the porters and cleaning staff were cheerful and attentive! The pool areas were well appointed, fun and not crowded when we were there. Our kids loved the various pools and the towel service was great. Check in / check out was very easy and we found the resort very relaxing. The mattresses and pillows were clean and comfortable, although the room furnishing were just a tiny bit worn. The breakfast at the Magellan was good and the kids liked the ice cream café. The marina sports club was well equipped. Overall a good stay but food was quite expensive within the resort.

Review 114:During our stay, maybe it was at their high occupancy season, they have less porter to help us with our luggage.

Review 115:We had Seaview room, wonderful eveNing sunset which we enjoyed at the club near the poolside. Staff are friendly. Good relaxing place plus shuttle is provided.

Review 116:The bathroom needs attention. A glass shelf over the amenities is hardto see and I hit my head twice. The sink doesn't hold water. Wedecided to stay an extra night and I went down and paid in advance. Nextday when we returned to the hotel the key had been cancelled. Poorcommunication and service.

Review 117:The bedroom was wonderful - clean, comfortable and well appointed. Abeautiful balcony with magnificent views.

Review 118:too hot in lobby, better but some fan to cool down the air. the refrigerator inside the room is not cold.

Review 119:nice environment, nice food, good location, staff are very helpful

Review 120:The hotel is truly a 5 star hotel in all aspect except that you certainly would need a cab or take the hotel shuttle bus to travel to city centre. Can't walk because the resort is too large of an area. If you have the budget for it, you can stay here.

Review 121:Have to pay to use snookle and kids float at the pool! May be management consider that a way to limit abuse of borrowing and not returning after use?

Review 122:Very friendly staff providing great service. Also staff made extra effort to try accommodate early dinner booking before our departure flight in evening Choices at buffet breakfast so wide! Fun to see Korean , Japanese, Chinese choices on top of Malaysian and western breakfast choice. Choice to use swimming pools of 3 properties. We tried two and have fun Only 15 mins from airport, can avoid the traffic jam in town Beautiful sunset!

Review 123:Polluted beach Facilities such as little Magellan kids club need to be upgraded Room service food quality is terrible and overpriced

Review 124:Spacious room, big hotel ground with lots of pool to choose from, decent breakfast buffet, great view Quiet resort

Review 125:The beach and the sea water at the tiny restricted area could be cleaned better.

Review 126:The overall setting and design Friendliness of the staff Recreation facilities at the Yacht Club

Review 127:Perhaps you have to inform us there will be extra 10% , 6% charges. Ignore this if this is already informed in your confirmation which might be i overlook.

Review 128:Good environment, comfortable.

Review 129:The staff are not at par with the quality of the hotel. They are not trained properly and you wont get the right service you are looking for. Upon check in there is chaos, no line is followed. In house bar coordination with hotel is pathetic, i literally complained why they cant charge the bill to the room after giving a big lump of deposit to hotel room much bigger than the accommodation cost. I requested a non smoking room but i got an upgraded smoking room to compensate.

Review 130:The place is nice, good location very close to malls and bars. Golf course is adjacent.

Review 131:there had some rubbish in the private beach.. a spoon, packed of snack and a baby diepers.

Review 132:love the room!! the view from the pool and restaurant.. its breathtaking.. will come here again definately

Review 133:the transportation from the resort to the city - the hotel should provide free and regular shuttle service to more stops instead of charging and only 3 drop off points.

Review 134:The quietness and cleaniness

Review 135:Jual and his staff at breakfast were friendly, attentive and highly professional Wonderful location with cocktails at the most extraordinary sunsets a highlight Short distance from the city to affordable eating and fresh fish restaurants

Review 136:When we entered the room the bathtub didn't seem very clean, and there were some dead mosquito in the bathtub...

Review 137:The staff are super friendly and helpful, view from the room is stunning

Review 138:Parking was difficult during the night for our rented car as there was often a function in the ballroom.

Review 139:The hotel was very clean and we had a comfortable stay. I was with 2 children aged 7 & 11 and my elderly parents. The kids loved the pool & the island hopping arranged at the hotel was extremely convenient. Location was awesome. We were 3 minutes away from the airport and city centre.

Review 140:Bathroom set up was a bit awkward. With no waterproof tile step for the shower, taking showers meant half the bathroom was flooded.

Review 141:garden room location with view was fantastic!

Review 142:Nice pools and beaches in Magellan & Pacific Resorts as well as Marina Club. Comfortable rooms, private pier to islands, convenient local tours booking counter , and different choices outlets, hotel shuttle bus provided us a relaxing "no plan no problem" enjoyable vacation.
