Reviews for Noboribetsu Grand Hotel
Review 1:Old hotel. Although non-smoking room, we can smell smoking in the room and toilet. Bad impression.
Review 2:Good location, near bus terminal. A private onsen in hotel.
Review 3:The check-in time is very strict at 3pm. Leaving not much time to try the onsen in the afternoon sunshine, as the sun sets at 4pm.
Review 4:Stayed in the japanese room. Comfortable. The onsen was large. You must try it once in the afternoon and once in the early morning, as they will switch the onsen facilities in the early morning. Did not take the dinner option. There were not many dinner options outside as this is winter low season.
Review 5:Couldn't recall if there was temperature stated at each of the Onsen baths. It will also be helpful if there was a clock at the Onsen area to remind guests of the time.
Review 6:Service was very prompt. Our bathroom's cold water faucet was not working and the technician attended to it rather quickly. Onsen facilities were very good.
Review 7:Staff don't speak any English! The first night I couldn't find the dining room due to lack of communication.
Review 8:well-placed, excellent spa and nice traditional japanese rooms Good variety and quality at the buffet
Review 9:Rooms were a bit run down but don't expect too much of nice new decor in Noboribetsu area, most ppl going there mainly due to the natural hot springs and usually won't stay in room all day anyway, overall still quite good.
Review 10:The onsens were really nice especially the outdoor onsen. The buffet dinner is value for money, all you can eat snow crab plus a good variety spread of Japanese food, from ramen stands to tempura freshly made.
Review 11:The facilities of the hotel is fairly old. The room's air cond did not work. We were like in sauna through out the night. My friend had food poisoning on the day we checked out. We had dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel. Could not imagine that the food is not right. We took the dinner buffet option but were not aware that it only allowed people 1.5 hours to have a buffet. I think at least 2 hours is more appropriate for a buffet style of dinner.
Review 12:The runny eggs at the breakfast buffet. Onsen area was a bit crowded.
Review 13:Japanese style room is very spacious. Even though it is listed as 'smoking' there was no smell of smoke. The dinner and breakfast buffets are extensive. Not far from Jigokudani, but not so close that the smell from the sulfur is overwhelming.
Review 14:our rooms at have the view of the roof. we make booking couple of months early. still no better room available. Lack of parking space. Need to park at utility room front and handover the car keys. Inside onsen children running around too dangerous.
Review 15:Like only the outdoor hot spring.
Review 16:More flexibility with meals would be good (e.g. having to book meals in advance was frustrating...it meant we didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel).
Review 17:Great overall...good for people traveling with families, and an absolutely great onsen.
Review 18:Dinner at Noboribetsu Onsen isn't fantastic, but it's ok. Nottoo expensive except for the beer.
Review 19:Noboribetsu Onsen itself isn't very big anyway, so all hotels arevery convenient. Grand Hotel was furthest away from the actual HellValley, and I think this was a good thing. Every morning we would wakeup to the smell of rotten eggs (the sulfur from Hell Valley), and Ithink this was coming in with the wind. If we had been closer, I thinkit would've been worse. At Grand Hotel it was definitely bearable. The room was spacious, futon, pillows and blankets comfortable, theonsen baths were incredibly nice. We don't smoke and I am actuallysensitive to cigarette smoke, but we wanted a Japanese style room andonly smoking rooms were left, but I smelled nothing like tobacco when wegot in. English instructions on how to bathe are in the room andtranslations for shampoo and conditioner are at the showers in the onsenbath. Staff are very friendly. Not much English, but they try theirbest. Knowing a bit of Japanese is easiest. We had only breakfast, itwas very extensive. Unfortunately not all dishes had Englishtranslations, but the croissants, eggs, rice and miso were enough for us(they had much more). The onsen baths were not crowded in the eveninghours in half October. The autumn leaves were just incredible and thehike through the mountain is definitely worthwhile. Oyunuma footbath iswonderful, but bring a towel.
Review 20:The meals were well prepared and the rooms were very comfortable. Every time we walked around the hotel, we always saw the staff cleaning and tidying up. They all worked hard to ensure a comfortable stay.
Review 21:Although the booking site states that the hotel has a shuttle service, we were told otherwise and took a taxi to the hotel - approximate fare JPY2000.
Review 22:Good location. Staff was friendly and helpful in giving directions, assisting in calling taxis, etc. The facilities, while not new, were well kept. Both breakfast and dinner buffets were very good. The hotel is located close to a "trendy tourist town", the bear park, and other attractions - all within walking distance.
Review 23:While the room wasn't that great for the money, the facilities and the surrounding view were absolutely amazing. The breakfast buffet was also really good
Review 24:Buffet breakfast offers a great assortment of food. We like the environment at the breakfast grand room. Spacious with many food islands which helps to spread out the crowd. Plate is a square honey comb form, allowing us to sample the many varieties of Japaneses food without cross over of flavour. This is a brilliant idea.
Review 25:Staff are difficult to communicate in English; dinner price is relatively high; room corridor needs refurbishment, compared to the modern design of the main dining venue; tele is too small in terms of the size of room
Review 26:A feature of Japanese style room; many choices of food; neat and tidy; spacious room; good to have separated toilet, bathroom and washing basin; have both shower and bath; good hot spring facilities, free of charge for hotel guests and not crowded with people; proximity to Hell Valley
Review 27:great experience with private onsen in the hotel. Great breakfast and dinner. Best location only 3 minute from bus station. Really love this place the most at hokkaido.
Review 28:The room is too small for the price. The bathroom is even smaller. At this price both the room and the bathroom must be bigger. We stayed in the non-smoking room. But we can always smell the smoking order in the corridor throughout our stay. Very unpleasant indeed.
Review 29:Hallway carpet soiled and chair in our room. Bathroom amenities a lot less than I would have expected for this caliber hotel.
Review 30:Convenient location next to the bus stop (came by way of JR train and local bus from Sapporo). Excellent low cost front door bus service from the hotel to Sapporo. Staff extremely friendly and courteous. Great buffet breakfast and dinner. Large assortment of dishes and the food was excellent Large clean room. The onsen was superb with the three different mineral pools and with the décors for the indoor and outdoor adding a nice touch.
Review 31:We didn't try the onsen as we were quite in a hurry but this hotel is nicely decorated every where thus you just feel good walking around in the hotel. We didn't visit the bear park which was near the hotel, though, as it's not our cup of tea.
Review 32:The breakfast (buffet) spread was very impressive, with wide variety and it was sumptuous! I love the view outside the breakfast hall as it surrounded by beautiful roses in the lovely garden. Below the lobby level if you take a walk down the stairs near the parking lot you would find a nice lush area with a small stream which is very peaceful. The hotel is very convenient to just walk across to souvenir shops and some eateries on the opposite side of the road. You must stop for a meal at this small ramen shop run by an old kind lady hidden in the row of those shops where tourists looking for memorabilia from Noboribetsu. The porter lady who helped us with the luggage upon check-in could speak English very well, very polite and hard working. Parking area was spacious too. From the hotel, it's just a short drive to Jigokudani (hell valley) and Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura (Edo Wonderland so-called).
Review 33:The location is good, quite near the bear park and the main street. The most impressing one to me is the hotel facility of hot spring. Quality of the water is very good.
Review 34:The only dislike portion is also on the hot spring. You will see a lady cleaner walk in and out in the hot spring areas with many naked man around.
Review 35:The hot spring is fantastic having different type of pools.
Review 36:Check out time at 10.00 a.m. is too early
Review 37:The location is excellent, just 3 minutes from bus station to the hotel. Dinner is perfect, varieties of foods.
Review 38:The breakfast experience with a huge crowd, particularly tourists who are uncouth, loud, rude and who has children who are ill mannered.
Review 39:Very good onsen bath facilities.
Review 40:the communication between the staff and us was a little bit difficult since they couldn't speak English or Chinese.
Review 41:The bath was amazing. we were staying in a Japanese-style room, which is a fantastic experience. well located, next to the bus terminal.
Review 42:This hotel is the kind of place where tour buses drop people off for a couple of days. You could eat, drink, party and bathe and never leave the hotel. If you're looking for a small, authentic Japanese experience, try a smaller hotel.
Review 43:The baths were excellent, particularly the outdoor ones!
Review 44:Perfect onsen and outside onsen, did not find any places in niseko.
Review 45:onsen
Review 46:No shuttle to JR station
Review 47:Its Japanese setting, great onsen and location is walking distance to attractions. Great breakfast.
Review 48:Standard of food both for breakfast and dinner has dropped. My last visit was in 2013. It was better quality.
Review 49:Organized and the staff knows their work
Review 50:The staff attitude is poor. They clearly had rooms but did not allow early check in. Check in at 3 pm and expect you to check out by 10 am.
Review 51:Nothing
Review 52:Location is good, staff are responsive and friendly.
Review 53:Poor timely access to the eating facilities within the hotel
Review 54:Great hot bath, excellent breakfast, stupendous local restaurants and outstanding staff
Review 55:The Onsen is good
Review 56:Onsen and food are awesome !
Review 57:Small room
Review 58:Pure hot-spring onsen
Review 59:Hot spring nice view and with free massage chair
Review 60:The rooms and hotel facilities are dated and requires refurbishment
Review 61:The dinner buffet was excellent
Review 62:Smell of sulpur in the air.
Review 63:Near a shopping street and some eateries. Breakfast in the hotel was good.
Review 64:Nice and convenient location in beautiful setting.value for money dinner duffet.
Review 65:mattress felt a little hard
Review 66:the impressive buffet breakfast
Review 67:Too early closed breakfast...
Review 68:wifi, sauna, cozy room
Review 69:The hotel rooms are quite run down. Frnitures are very deteriorated. Paint on wall are fell off. Time for renovation.
Review 70:Hot spring is goid
Review 71:Nothing much around the hotel
Review 72:The Onsen very good
Review 73:Pillows was too soft.
Review 74:Breakfast is not that good.
Review 75:Staff were helpful. Hot spring is good.
Review 76:Price here is overly expensive and dinners are not included
Review 77:The bed is pretty soft and breakfast is not bad. Onsen here is definitely a must.
Review 78:too early check out
Review 79:dinner buffet is good Service is good
Review 80:Onsen in the hotel is great
Review 81:Onsen service is excellent with many type.
Review 82:Too big hotel
Review 83:Many type of onsen
Review 84:Best onsen ,good view
Review 85:Lifts were slow and always busy.
Review 86:Food Facilities Helpful Staff Location Comfort
Review 87:Price a little bit high
Review 88:Onsen and food
Review 89:The price is a little bit high
Review 90:The onsen and buffet especially the crab
Review 91:Nice buffet dinner, good onsen.
Review 92:This is a hotel for massive company outings and bus loads of Taiwanese tourists all rushing for the buffet. Don't come here for an authentic 'Japanese' Onsen Ryokan experience.
Review 93:The big baths are great.
Review 94:I asked for a non-smoking room, but the room they gave to me smelled like a smoking room. The indoor/outdoor baths were rather simple. I wished to stay at Mahoroba instead, which has more number of baths of various types.
Review 95:Bathroom is small.
Review 96:Wide variety of Breakfast and Dinner Buffet! Not many hotel provide Dinner Buffet! This one does! The quality of the food is good. I will definitely choose this hotel again.
Review 97:No wifi in the room, faint cigarette smell despite being on the non-smoking floor.
Review 98:Location next to the bus terminal was most convenient. The onsen is a MUST go. We didn't use our shower (a lil small and a little tired) but there was no need for a shower in the room as the onsen is more than good enough with all kinds of toiletries. Dinner was great as everyone mentioned. There's 2 seatings (5:30-7 or 7:30-9) so it wasn't overcrowded. Staff is meticulous and friendly.
Review 99:The onsen was rather disappointing. As a foreigner, I would prefer view over the quality of water since I can't tell the difference. I stayed 2 nights so I had a go at both baths. One is bigger with an artificial waterfall in the outdoor area. The other one was much smaller with not much of a view (surrounded by tall bamboo fences).
Review 100:Hotel lobby has an automatic piano that plays "live" music. Souvenir and convenient store was all-in-one and well-stocked with lots of variety. Staff in restaurant are courteous and did a lot of introduction to the buffet lines, albeit in Japanese.
Review 101:Only one staff can speak english (at the reception). The rest of them tried to speak to us in Japanese as if we will eventually be able to understand them.
Review 102:The hotel was quite near the bear park and was in walking diastase of Jigokudani Valley. The giant maguro cutting demonstration! We did not expect that. It was quite impressive! The variety of the the food.
Review 103:- No wifi
Review 104:- Near the bus station - Staff is willing to serve - Buffet dinner is very good, I am very impress with the big Tona. - Breakfast is so so - Nice Onsen
Review 105:First time to try onsen and it was a great experience. The hotel is near the bus station and other tourist spots. A great place to stay with family or friends.
Review 106:Large room but a little bit old.
Review 107:Wonderful location. It's easy to access to any places by walk such as Jigokudani, Oyunuma and Bear Farm. The Hotel is not long way away from the bus station. Just 3 minutes for walk. Nice onsen....
Review 108:Location. It offers very cheap transportation (550 yen) from Sapporo JR station and back. The hotel is very close to the Donan bus station. Different hotsprings.
Review 109:The hotel rooms required total refurbishments as the furniture, walls, floors are very tired. I will not find any food court outside hotel. Inside the hotel there are some restaurants but no menus in english and staff doesnt speak it. I will not recommend this hotel to english speaking family couples.
Review 110:Good onsen inside Hotel facilities.
Review 111:Staff didn't turn the kettle cap tight enough, the kettle fell to the floor and hot water poured out to my daughter's feet. We didn't raise a complaint because we spoke to the front desk and they didn't understand.... :( Luckily my daughter still mentioned to walk
Review 112:Very good hot spring. Dinner buffet and breakfast were excellent.
Review 113:Rooms are a bit small. Decor a bit dated.
Review 114:Buffet dinner and breakfast included. Although quality is average, the food was fresh and the atmosphere very good. Such a lot of choices.
Review 115:One of the public bath (onsen) can be looked into from a carpark. No LAN or Wifi in guest room. Only one coin operated washer and dryer in the hotel and may need to queue up for quite a long time.
Review 116:Location is good as clise to the bus terminal. Several carpark space. Beautiful onsen and goid buffet style dinner in the Grand Hall. Helpful Front desk staff can speak English.
Review 117:We love all. Superb location just across the street from the bus station and only 7 min-walk to Hell Valley. Clean and comfortable. Excellent onsen, unlimited access per stay. There are many different baths including outdoor. Great dinner and breakfast; all you can eat. We highly recommended this hotel.
Review 118:Hotel is past it's sell by date. Old tattered carpet in both rooms, dining room. Bathroom really needs an update. Only thing grand about the place is the name.
Review 119:Great location and spa. The included dinner was great.
Review 120:Location is reachable, about 15 mins from jr Noboribetsu by Donan bus (¥ 220 per person). Extremely recommended for their Onsen. Free Shuttlebus available for Noboribetsu Bear Park and Jigokudani from any place
Review 121:I arrived early at 10:30am and asked if I could check-in earlier but thefront desk staff not only rejected me by saying there's no vacancyat all at the moment but after that he could still add that if I'mwilling to pay extra on top of my room charges (he wrote down 4000yenper hour), he could give me a room earlier. Which means that there'svacancy at that time after all! I'm shocked by the bad attitude ofthe particular service staff when I complained about his service andridiculous charges, he seemed indifferent and totally unempathetic to mysituation. I could understand that I can't check in early butI'm very unhappy with the service staff for not trying to help atall. Very disappointed. On the other hand upon checking in at 3pm, theother service staff who served me was fantastic and made sure I wasaccommodated well.
Review 122:The room is spacious & clean, I like the yukata's design, thedinner and breakfast spread is quite extensive and varied too so theregoes my diet!
Review 123:We had a Japanese room which was lovely and spacious and the futons werevery comfortable. The onsen was very good and the buffet dinner had awide selection of very appetizing food. A great hotel for a relaxingbreak. The drive to the hotel was very scenic.
Review 124:The onsen is below expectation. The food quality is just fair.
Review 125:The location is nearby the bus stop.
