Reviews for Mid City Ballarat
Review 1:The decor is a bit outdated but otherwise clean.
Review 2:The staff are so delightful and helpful. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the location is sensational. Close to station and main streets. Great resturants a walk away.
Review 3:No bedside night lamp. Unable to access internet despite being provided with 2 passwords. Needed another towel.
Review 4:Excellent restaurant attached. Staff helpful and friendly.
Review 5:The building is quite old, so some areas are really starting to show their age. It was kept very clean though.
Review 6:the location was great, an easy walk to the city center
Review 7:The facilities were run down. There was no additional furniture like table and chairs. Lighting was limited and poor. Couldn't read comfortably in bed. Had to ask housekeeping for everything and towells were threadbare and frayed.
Review 8:The Location
Review 9:Unfortunately there was a lot of noise coming from several rooms upstairs.
Review 10:The greeting by the lady in reception was wonderful. She was so helpful and
Review 11:Not bad, but room 22 has obviously had a damp problem and been repaired quickly and roughly, particularly around bathroom (in the bedroom) walls at floor level
Review 12:Location, good internet, and adequate, well priced continental breakfast
Review 13:You need more hooks in the bathroom to hang up clothing and towels. Pool is a little tired. A bit more greenery would enhance the rather stark outdoor setting; inclusive of in the front of your venue, as there is plenty of room.
Review 14:Polite and helpful staff. Efficient cleaners. Can see that you are trying to develop the site, so keep at it, as the location is good and central being close to a variety of eating venues, and you are not overpriced.
Review 15:Decor was a little dated, they appear to be doing the motel up, but pleasant enough for short stay.
Review 16:The lady in reception was so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Great value for money with central location
Review 17:As it was a standard queen room, I was still very disappointed with it. Holes in walls, hand basin top peeling. Shower basically clean. There was a musty smell n the rom and they foyer of business was very musty smelling. I'd give this business a wide berth in future trips to Ballarat.
Review 18:The location was quite handy for our reason for being in Ballarat, which was medically related. The place was basically very quiet over night,.
Review 19:Mattress was hard. WiFi was erratic.
Review 20:Quiet room in central location so easy to walk around town. Great African cafe across the road. Appreciated all the solar panels on the roof - well done.
Review 21:No towels in room Finish of room poor...water damage in and around shower and fungal matter in the very old and falling down air vent
Review 22:Location and Bed
Review 23:Little soaps. Ha.
Review 24:Staff was very helpful. I needed to add another night to my stay and staff went out of their way to help. Bistro steak best I've ever had.
Review 25:hard to find fault for value would only be nit picking many thanks
Review 26:i have clicked on yes to the pet question but actually it was my seeing eye dog Kylie at check in was over and above expectation, friendly caring of our needs etc we will definitely be back at this stage on a monthly basis
Review 27:I was scared staying at the mid city. I unfortunately was placed under a out of control patron with disgusting foul language bellowing from the balcony above, waking me every hour through out the night only to continue the harassment as I was trying to leave the next day. I understand the police were called but these people should have been removed. I was a paying client why did I have to be harrassed from someone who acts so disgraceful in an establishment, I would have ejected them and kept the other patrons happy. I couldn't have left faster. I was honestly terrified.
Review 28:Staff were friendly.
Review 29:Shower didn't work in first room. Air conditioner/heater didn't work at all in third room, and it was a cold night which made me cough all night. Very stressed and exhausted and had to drive husband home from hospital long distance. Not happy.
Review 30:Friendly staff
Review 31:The woman at reception. Somehow our booking was doubled, don't knowwhose fault that was. Made us pay for two rooms when we only needed one.Got Booking.Com to try and intervene. No success. When we explained thatit must have been a mistake, her response was " That's what youget for booking on line!"
Review 32:Good location.
Review 33:As a few others have mentioned some of the furniture in the rooms is a little old & tired, but for the price I paid I didn't mind as all the key elements like bed, shower etc were top notch.
Review 34:Good location, comfy beds, helpful staff, hot shower and all the amenities I needed, including a good reading light.
Review 35:tap handle broke in the shower, couldn't fill kettle as it wouldn't fit under the tap at the basin, charged me for items we didn't use. have since called and no one has returned my call and nothing has been offered as compensation.
Review 36:Spare blankets and pillows were covered in an inch of dust. Walls paper thin could here our neighbours all night. Tv didn't work.
Review 37:Close to city centre
Review 38:Staff use a back patio area to smoke and talk, rather loudly. This was right outside our room and it did become annoying at times. (Room 14)
Review 39:Large, clean modern looking room. Mini bar, fridge, food and soft drink options in room. Great to have this available at the end of a long trip.
Review 40:Didn't get the same experience when booking in as last time. Not as friendly, different person, but when booking out the lady was lovely. Wasn't offered the discount breakfast this time
Review 41:Location
Review 42:Had housekeeping walk in, over an hour before checkout time when we were showering and getting dressed. One quick knock and she walked in. I know they want to get their work done, but atleast wait until guests have gone? I'm not usually a complainer, but I really don't like feeling rushed
Review 43:Locations, helpful reception staff
Review 44:The rooms are in need of an upgrade . Rust showing through around door frames . Plaster was shocking . Main foyer smelt like damp mildew . This is not healthy for employees to breathe in everyday .
Review 45:Location great
Review 46:Just think that maybe the showers could use a little upgrade some new tiles or paint as they looked a little dark and cracked but overall great loved it
Review 47:Service and location was great
Review 48:Staff were rude. Couldn't spell my business name correctly on invoice (I spelt it out 3 times) Overcharged me. Expect me to wait a week for refund with no apology.
Review 49:Location was fabulous, nice and central.
Review 50:Perhaps a microwave for after hours would have been nice.
Review 51:The personal touch of the reception staff ensured we were well looked after. The restaurant breakfast was fabulous with plenty of variety and great service too..
Review 52:bathroom could have been cleaner especially grunge around taps on hand basin. Stair well didn't look if it had been cleaned or swept in years.
Review 53:excellent breakfasts great value for money
Review 54:I had a ground floor unit so the inconsiderate people who drove in at 2:30 am and held a conversation in the car park were very audible. An upstairs unit might lessen the problem
Review 55:The location within easy walking distance to the railway station the 2 major hospitals and the CBD was very useful. The room was clean and comfortable although it seemed to be in need of minor maintenance to correct its ageing.
Review 56:Others guesses arrival at 5am no consideration for others . Loud and door slamming. This went on for 2 hours. Finding cigarette butts all over our vehicle.
Review 57:Maybe better signage as you can only see the hotel name when you are very close to it .as the hotel is set back off the road.
Review 58:Room bit old but very clean.breakfast variety was great young man working the breakfast shift was so great and friendly 10 out of 10 to him.
Review 59:Staff very helpful. I had a problem connecting to the wifi, and they sent a staff member straight away to help me. They also followed up later to make sure I had no further problems.
Review 60:Location was really good, old style bathroom and furnishings except for the modern & very comfy bed but the rooms are spacious and spotless and our room was very quiet - also two entry/exits points very handy, great value for money
Review 61:Rooms are looking very tired and dated, price you pay is for the central location as there are similar looking rooms out of the central city for $50 less.
Review 62:Location is great, staff were fantastic.
Review 63:Musky smell from water on carpet in reception. I felt sorry for the staff breathing in their and listening to the constant water feature
Review 64:Location was sole reason for choice
Review 65:Generally clean, but there were dead flies in several corners, used soap left in shower, green dust from grape vines blown in under door.
Review 66:Location excellent; walk to theatre, art gallery, shops. Bed comfortable
Review 67:Running late and arrived in Ballarat at 9.00pm on a Monday night. Had spoken to the receptionist earlier and asked about food. We had missed the kitchen but told to go to Sturt St. A little more direction and knowledge of what we could find in Sturt Street at 9.00 pm on a Monday night in Ballarat would have been helpful. As it was we spoke to a random stranger in the street who directed us to Forge Pizzeria in Armstrong St and we had a shared a wonderful local lamb pizza and the best Tiramisu ever..
Review 68:The heater was on in our room. Thank you
Review 69:I didn't like the parking, I was needing to leave early and I was blocked in by a van so had to contact the staff, the parking needs to be a little better.
Review 70:Close to the city, very convenient.
Review 71:The reception area may put people off as it is dated and has a water fountain which splashes out onto the carpet, giving a damp and unpleasant odour as you enter reception. This should not discourage travellers from the good sized rooms which were clean, quiet and well equipped.
Review 72:Spacious room in a quiet location with all rooms away from the main street. Very comfortable queen size bed. Great location near centre of town and all it has to offer, the lake and the train station.
Review 73:Being a family room I think there could have been another towel each. The tissue box was empty and we found no other replacement. The main issue which will sound stupid is that in a room with 4 adults who all drink coffee or tea I just felt like the mini kettle was very strange. Actually I don't think I have ever seen a kettle of size.
Review 74:We were a party of 4..Myself, my mother, my daughter and her friend. There was sufficient room and it was comfortable
Review 75:No car space infront of our room and no spaces at all infact, when I booked it online it said "request a car spot out the front of your room" and I clicked yes. And very loud people staying there and up late making a lot of noise and up early running around
Review 76:The light was hanging by its cable at head level. This was funny for me as my friend hit his head every time he got up. Car park is really tight.
Review 77:Close to main town
Review 78:Had to park vehicle away from room, as car park space outside room was occupied. No exhaust fan in bathroom. Clock radio unit in room (24) did not work.
Review 79:Location, friendliness and professionalism of front desk staff, great service by restaurant waiter. Very generous breakfast in the B&B package.
Review 80:called evening reception staff for wifi password who put me on hold for a lengthy amount of time. Appeared to be having a personal conversation in the background. Called twice when asked if I minded being put on hold did not get time to respond. Ended up phoning externally and got the same response. I wasntvery happy with that.have never come across this before. Pretty rude.
Review 81:Central
Review 82:The rooms are old and tired. the bathrooms smell of stale water and mold. there were no electric blankets. the curtains didn't close properly and there was a security light streaming in our room all night. there was a red line permanently on our tv. Bakery Hill where my friend stayed was $135 for the same number of people, a king and a single with a large tv, table and chairs, a microwave and new carpet. much better value
Review 83:the ability to walk to the centre of town.
Review 84:Some things have been recently updated but others are quite dated. My credit card was charged for the room without my verbal consent on arrival. We wanted to use an alternative method of payment but were not given the opportunity to.
Review 85:Great location. Close to restaurants and city centre shops. Clean and comfortable
Review 86:the reception staff were not really that welcoming. Housekeeping was a bit irritated that we're still in the room. She asked how much longer we're going to be in the room. Apparently, she was not told that we asked for 11am check-out, instead of normal 10.30am
Review 87:the location, very close to shops and restaurant
Review 88:Staff very friendly and made you feel at ease as soon as you walked in the Door. When there was an issue with the room staff where very happy to resolve the issue without a problem
Review 89:An excellent central location, but somehow it was still remarkably quiet in our room. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The decor is a bit on the old side, but apparently a major refurb is on the cards over the next year or so. We were happy with our decision to stay here.
Review 90:Terrible WIFI performance, we had a pillow with blood all over the cover as a spare, no milk in fridge for a coffee, bed comfort was not suitable but of course this is a personal thing so unfair to judge motel on this basis
Review 91:Location and shower pressure was awesome, pity the shower recess was not as impressive
Review 92:On departure the staff member was rude, and took a long time to assist us. Also the fridge was disgusting, dirty and full of mold.
Review 93:On arrival the staff member was very friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable.
Review 94:The bathroom was disgusting, not clean, poor quality everything, not only old and out of date but falling to disrepair! Parking was ridiculous- many cars blocked in by useless set up
Review 95:Great location
Review 96:It was the room itself *Poor lighting in the room *There was very little pressure in the shower *The phone in the room didn't work. I felt that it wasn't worth what we paid.
Review 97:The location was close to where we need to be. The staff were pleasant. They were very accommodating when we needed to change rooms due to our original room not being ready
Review 98:Holes in sheets. Scrappy towels. Bathroom ceiling plaster badly damaged - old damage not recent. Bathroom light not working. Lamp not working. Washing machine not working. Property needs some good TLC.
Review 99:A roof over my head.
Review 100:Room is a little dated and could use a renovation, otherwise it is very clean and good value.
Review 101:Excellent, friendly receptionist makes you feel welcome. The location of the motel means you can walk to everything in the city, especially some top-notch Chinese restaurants. Breakfast in the bistro is excellent value with a cooked breakfast made to order from the menu. Mini-bar was well stocked at reasonable prices.
Review 102:Kept stubbing toe on the strip leading into the bathroom. Noisy could hear people in the other room and also when people came in at 3 and 4 oclock in the morning
Review 103:Location and the bed was very comfortable Staff friendly
Review 104:It was very dated and dirty. There was dust all over the shelves where the mini bar items were and all over the bottles of wine. The bathroom was mouldy and gross. We had to ask for milk for tea. The lights were faulty.
Review 105:The new owners were friendly and the mattresses were very comfortable. It was quiet and breakfast was nice.
Review 106:work was being done to install solar panels on the roof which apparently upset the wifi antenna so no internet. Can't blame the motel for that though
Review 107:Location, friendly staff and size of room.
Review 108:Being offered free wifi but not getting a good enough signal to use it. Someone getring the same room as ours & tried to get in while we were there. Getting a call asking if I still want the room while sitting in my room. Very unprofessional.
Review 109:The bed was very comfortable.
Review 110:Great location for train and bus service to Melbourne to watch AFL. Near main shopping area. Caught Gold bus to MCG from City Hall nearby...or train if you have more time. Great position in town area.
Review 111:$144 per night for a twin was fairly pricey, considering the motel was dated, and facilities basic (albeit clean and comfortable) No facilities to make your own breakfast e.g. toaster, bowls, plates, tea towel, which is what we wanted to do. We would have eaten dinner at the restaurant but it was closed. Because of the location, that wasn't a great problem, and it was a Sunday night.
Review 112:Location was excellent
Review 113:Really comfortable stay, bed, heating hot showers and good pressure, wifi centrally located, walked everywhere. Quiet, lots of parking and really good value.
Review 114:Couldnt get Wi-Fi to work, receptionist didnt know why, should work on all devices, should be looked into to make sure it is working on all devices.
Review 115:Good location, friendly service.
Review 116:Badly in need of renovations to the point that it's not just dated but also curtains are off rails, furniture chipped and marked and grout falling out of tiles
Review 117:The cost and choices of the buffet breakfast seems to be a secret. The in-room menu had dinner prices only, with no reference to room service breakfast prices. Cost is important to pensioners traveling for medical reasons and we shouldn't have to ask. Room very cold, the air-conditioner was noisy and ineffective.
Review 118:Convenient location, evening meal was excellent, helpful staff.
Review 119:A bit of built up grime around the bathroom fittings looked a bit off.
Review 120:The staff were extremely helpful and the bed was very comfortable. Location was ideal for me.
Review 121:Wasnt given password etc for wifi on checkin.
Review 122:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Venue was very convenient to location of our event in Lydiard St,also Movie Theatre and local restaurants cafes and shopping.
Review 123:Bathroom didn't have a lock on door and staff didn't communicate to each other that we had ordered late check out so we received an angry phone call the next morning saying we should have checked out already.
Review 124:Staff are always very nice on arrival
Review 125:the wireless would not work . it may have been me ?.
Review 126:staff were all very polite ,helpful and egar to help and please, the dinner was served in a very friendly manner and tasty top marks, breakfast the same
Review 127:upgraded to a suite, large skip bin at our bedroom window. Staff not informative about breakfast so we went elsewhere, freezing cold weather no heating on in room on arrival, took forever to try and warm room went to bed early, problems with remotes for tvs will not be staying there again.
Review 128:location
Review 129:FIRST ROOM I WALKED IN WAS DIRTY SO GOT ANOTHER ROOM FOR SAME PRICE, NO APOLOGIES!! NEED DOOR FLAPS DUE FEEL COLD AIR THRU INSIDE HAD TO PUT PILLOW BEHIND THE DOOR
Review 130:Our bathroom, rm 9 needs a total overhaul, cracked tiles ekk, disintegrating vanity basin etc
Review 131:Our room was very clean & had obviously had a Reno. Very clean & comfortable. Staff cooked me porridge for breakfast - a -6 morning, most appreciated.
Review 132:our purpose of the visit to Ballarat was to attend the hospital, the motel was the perfect location, excellent bed, good shower, overall very comfortable.
Review 133:1. Heating insufficient 2. Not enough blankets 3. Not user freindly if I have a disability 4. Not even able to access breakfast area no access for people with a disbliity 5. Breakfast voucher a farce 6 garbage bins large outside bedroom window and very disruptive to stay let alone the view of garbage skips
Review 134:Size of room
Review 135:Stuck in the 70's. Kettle rusted (but quickly replaced only after asking twice). Only one Wifi access per room. Bathroom smelt really badly of mildew.
Review 136:Our neighbours in the next room were very loud, and using foul language. They woke us during the night with yelling and swearing.
Review 137:Being able to check in late in the evening, and assistance to get our heater working properly.
