Reviews for @ VDL Stanley
Review 1:There was a note on the door stating if you booked a queen room you were up the road at another facility. They show the old stone building but in fact we were up the road which disappointed my husband!
Review 2:It was a lovely room and great bathroom.
Review 3:There was a perfume smell in our room... Not sure if it was room deodorizer or an intention attempt to scent the room... But I was left wondering if it was covering something up rather than enhancing the room.
Review 4:Modern eclectic decor in a lovely location.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Great Location and an excellent renovation / conversion of what was the original VDL bond store , excellent facilities and thoroughly modern decor , superb value .
Review 7:nil.
Review 8:Very Quirky, lovely to see the de`core in an old Building. It does have stairs, so be aware. Everything was comfortable, and interesting. Didn't see any staff, but that was fine.
Review 9:Very smart renovation inside old property. Staff not rated because we didn't meet any! Obviously their activities in the background had a good result.
Review 10:Only thing was different for us was we did not see any body as it does not have a reception
Review 11:The location was very good, nice walking distance to local shops
Review 12:The connecting bathroom wall to the next room is too thin, conversations and other noises are clearly heard
Review 13:Great historic building, beautifully renovated & furnished
Review 14:My daughter was next door facing restaurant no aircon was noisy because of construction at restaurant. Not really a good view from our room.
Review 15:Good room comfortable bed
Review 16:Absolutely nothing to mention that was below par.
Review 17:Tastefully decorated accommodation cleverly contrasting the old with new. Attention to detail is outstanding. Quite simply one of the best stays we have had anywhere in 35 years of travelling.
Review 18:There was no heating on in the general areas in its of a heat pump and a gas heater. There was no contact with another person; let yourself in and leave with no further interaction. Bathroom is starting to look dated, grout missing from tiles, mould on cornices.
Review 19:Comfortable bed and beautiful location.
Review 20:The bathroom was very cold. It is winter. The rest of the apartment was very pleasant but the bathroom was cold.
Review 21:Loved the location and layout of the building. Very comfortable, wish we had longer there.
Review 22:Thought we were staying in Wharf Rd but found out when we got there, we weren't. Didn't spoil the stay, just some confusion. Lack of meal choices in winter and no kitchen facilities.
Review 23:Luxurious bathroom, great location in a beautiful town. We were in The Base (right at the base of the Nut). Only the pub open for dinner in winter. We had both suites for two couples - worked well. Close to Arthur River for day trip.
Review 24:The bed in our personal preference was too firm for us but we all have our own comforts.
Review 25:I know , but I have to mention it smelt amazing and was clean and inviting as soon as we walked in. We loved the layout and the generous bath. The special touch with the aromatic bath products. Xanders Restaurant down the road never fails to please , amazing food and friendly staff.
Review 26:Only suggestions I have; somewhere to unpack clothes to and somewhere to put our toilet bag in the bathroom.
Review 27:Beautiful accomodation and so amazingly comfortable. Loved it.
Review 28:No staff on site, keys taped to front door. No instructions on curtains and remotes (blinds not visible). Don't believe managers are living near property. Everything done by phone. Lady does come to clean but not done well, does not restock items used. Leak in bathroom when you use the bath. One laundry for guests that staff also use for washing linen etc so very hard to get to use. Problem with TV reception. White Wooden part of building (entrance) needs painting. Makes it look run down.
Review 29:Location, kitchen facilities.
Review 30:Love a king size bed, but this one was on the very firm (hear) side for my liking. Husband liked
Review 31:The comfort, spaciousness, facilities, esp laundry, bath heated bathroom floor. Great info upon arrival and stunningly appointed
Review 32:Thought I was booking at room in the historic VDL building on Wharf Road. But turned out I had booked a queen room in another property, which was a little disappointing. Would have appreciated this aspect to be clearly spelt out. There was a single sentence hidden in the booking confirmation saying this room was at a different address.
Review 33:Room was very comfy and well set-up. Was a little funky too.
Review 34:Rather narrow room. Nowhere to put or open suitcase other than floor. Contact to owners/management is by phone only ie no staff on site.
Review 35:Quiet but central location in Stanley township right at base of The Nut, hence no doubt, 'The Base' title. Loved The White Company products in in bathroom. Clean and comfortable. Nice view over ocean .
Review 36:Could not find our place, it does not show on booking.com as there ismore than one place to stay at vdl Stanley. Perhaps a better system toallow easier location would be appropriate
Review 37:Once we found the our place we were rewarded with an clean and wellmaintained place. Full points to the cleaning lady who drove to the ourplace to show us where it was. Unfortunately there are more than one vdlresidences to stay at and it does not show on booking.com
Review 38:The only thing was (& I don't care to look in mirrors) there is no full length mirror in room. Very minor & picky but that was the only thing and could be easily addressed by attaching one to the back of the wardrobe or bathroom door or maybe a nice cheval mirror. Have a beautiful one in the foyer though.
Review 39:Great location, very clean, comfortable bed, good shower and bathroom facilities, quiet - even though it is situated on the wharf end of town, free onsite parking (always a bonus), easy walking to anywhere you want to go in town, warm and the ground floor lounge is great to discuss the adventures of the day :)
Review 40:Some instructions on how to use the electric blinds in the bath room, I can't fault anything really. :)
Review 41:I love dogs and it was evident who ever decorated the apartments did too. Beautiful art work though out the building and comfortable funky furniture.....very trendy place :)
Review 42:Loved that the accom. Was within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the Nut, beach etc. the room was clean and very comfortable. Only issue was I had not organised about picking up keys so did a bit of running around but all good. Owner more than helpful.
Review 43:While the room we did get was nice/comfortable enough, it was not in the historic VDL building which was why we booked in the fist place. I have checked back through the photos and there are no outside shots of @the base, the 'other location' which is a much much newer building up on the hill. Definitely no guest lounge or Don't mind admitting I cried.
Review 44:We did not allocate enough time in Stanley
Review 45:The people of Stanley were very welcoming VDL Stanley was one of the best place we stayed at - highly recommended
Review 46:The room was spacious, had a great view, was comfortable, modern and clean. Location was brilliant and the staff were very obliging. We had a fantastic stay, just what the doctor ordered.
Review 47:Spacious room with a great decor and comfortable bed. Very quiet area with great views from the room and the balcony. Easy walk to pubs and restaurants.
Review 48:Room seemed a bit dark when we first arrived. No view and needed lights on all the time.
Review 49:Luxurious tasteful boutique lodging in a beautifully restored old building. Super comfy bed, fluffy towels, gorgeous smelling soap and shampoo products. huge relaxing bath. Decor: arty and interesting. Foyer had nice touches lovely restored furniture, sweets, DVD's to borrow, reading matter.
Review 50:Not a thing
Review 51:VDL Stanley is stylish accommodation with a luxury bathroom and is close to everything you would need to enjoy your stay in Stanley and the views are beautiful
Review 52:Denied access by filmcrew on location.street in lockdown .couldnt park to unload bags.told to leave multiple times and screamed at by film associates.trapped in room until dusk by abusive film assistants.couldnt sleep yells of action and loud filming at night outside our bedroom window.no assistance from hotel.
Review 53:Nicely renovated
Review 54:VDL has a lovely modern atmosphere in a historic building. It’s situated in a beautiful seaside position. Our room had great views that over looked the wharf. The room was spacious and clean, it was such a pleasant surprise to have beautiful chocolates each night. Having a coffee machine was a highlight, nothing like a good coffee first thing in the morning. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend a stay at VDL. It's only a short walk to the village, the food at the pub was excellent.
Review 55:The outside facarde of the buiding is not in sympathy with the rest of the street. Red brick gives the building a 1940/50's appearance.
Review 56:the location, the ambience of the unit and in particular the bathroom.
Review 57:We thought we would be staying in the superb VDL stone house accommodation but very disappointed to find we were in a revamped brick bungalow. Unbearable smell pervaded building
Review 58:Read the instructions properly as there is more than one property when you book this, the place you are staying isnt necessarily the address shown on the first page of the booking.
Review 59:I drive to @VDL but when I got there I was told (by phone, no staff) that my reservation was for @Base? I had no idea about this... and was given directions there. Luckily the place was lovely with a beautiful view, but I would have liked to know about this other place as not mentioned on this website. No cutlery.
Review 60:Views, Moby Dick breakfast bar up the street, beautiful room and bathroom, Glasshouse diffuser, nice decor.
Review 61:No air-conditioning. Paying for Coffey pods.
Review 62:Wonderful restoration and conversion. Good quality fittings and plenty of space to relax and enjoy. Crocker and cutlery to enable in room dining. Big flat screen TV and couch. Gift of chocolates at night.
Review 63:Nothing!!! Couldn't fault anything
Review 64:Beautiful building fantastically renovated. Spacious suites with lovely fittings, furniture, decor and artwork. Handmade chocolates hand delivered every evening were delicious!
Review 65:mixture of the old and the new .exposed bricks and beams from the yester-year with modern contemporary furnishings .very welcoming, beautiful location with views .close to everything to do in Stanley. Definitely worth a visit
Review 66:Property is in great location close to all historical features of Stanley. Beautifully maintained, all facilities top class - but maybe free Wifi could have made the stay complete.
Review 67:Everything was great! We were the only people staying in the hotel so it was very quiet and romantic, everything was so new and modern and clean. So close to all Stanley has to offer, walking distance. We met with Deirdre when we checked in (2 hours early, we're annoying) and she was so welcoming and lovely and later in the night as we were watching some television they came up and surprised us with an assortment of Tasmanian fudge. All in all, great experience. Would definitely stay again
Review 68:Sloping bathroom ceiling meant you unintentionally knocked your head when going to the toilet. Shower floor was made of pebbles - very uncomfortable. Host had entered our room whilst we were out. While the fudge was appreciated I see this as a huge 'no, no'. Lastly we were pushed out the door at 9:45am with cleaners waiting at out door.
Review 69:Beautifully presented with a modern twist on an old colonial style loft building. Was welcomed by an envelope with a key and dinner recommendations and the restaurant was amazing.
Review 70:couldn't warm up the room, the air conditioner didn't seem to work. no staff around to ask for help.
Review 71:liked everything else location room setting furniture could fault nothing else except the air conditioner.
Review 72:Interior Design
Review 73:Position and view
Review 74:tapware needs maintenance, eg: tap handles loose, shower head loose, bathroom vanity needs resealing.
Review 75:location.

Review 82:Beautifully decorated as well as historic building. Lovely bathroom.
Review 83:The room was lovely very clean and comfortable. Great views across the bay and very close to the Main Street.
