Review 15：Hotel is overdue for renovation. The bathtub and toilet sink needs plumbing services. One night, the water from the tap were dirty with sand when we turned it on - this could be due to rain and construction nearby, but it was really unpleasant! We were staying on the 3rd level and cockroaches were found in the room! The slot where we placed the access card was also faulty and needed 2 cards to be slotted in order to work.

Review 19：I booked 2 rooms. Came early but was ask to wait as the rooms are not ready.Finally we managed to get one of the room at 4pm and the second room was ready for us at 7pm. This is so humiliating. A bad experience throughout my entire life. Will not even think of staying in this hotel anymore.

Review 28：It is a very popular hotel and so expect it to be pretty much full-house and during school holidays - it will be noisy. The furnishings are dated so expect to feel that you are back in the 90s. A little face-lift would make the stay more aesthetically pleasing. While the staff is generally friendly, I found that the front-line staff at registration were generally cold and brusque, which considering they are front-line staff should do better.

Review 29：I have been to Mutiara since I was a wee kid, using Mutiara Hotel as my base whenever I come down to Johor Bahru to visit relatives. Now with a kid of my own, I was tentative about using Mutiara since there are plenty of brand new swanky hotels around and it had been possibly ten years since I had stayed here. Mutiara was a pleasure to stay in, as I remembered. The rooms are large and spacious and while the furnishings and finish are dated, they were clean. The beds were comfortable and we slept very well. The breakfast selection is large and generally very tasty. It can get quite crowded but the food is generally replenished. The staff work hard and they can get a little overwhelmed but they try their best to rectify any issue with a smile. It was a wonderfully relaxing trip, the hotel provided everything we needed for a short trip - free wifi, free parking and the hotel's location was central for JB making it easy for us to pop in and out to hunt for good food which is abundant in JB.

Review 30：Your staff are trying to cheat my money..when i first arrive they only gv me my deposit receipt..n after i ask for my payment receipt cause i did pay extra than they gv me.. during check out. Ur reception gave me back my balance money but shortage of 10ringgit. Again no receipt given. When i ask for receipt than ur reception quikly ask me recount the cash and she say ouh there is shortage n quikly return my 10ringgit along.

Review 32：Waited almost 3 hours to check in and got a faulty aircon room. Ask for a change of room but Hotel were overbooked spoke to the Gm abt the faulty aircon in our room but is not customer friendly at all.. the hotel lift broke down almost 2 hours n we were all stuck at the lobby that night.

Review 37：The checking-in was a disappointment. Although already booked through booking.com for more than a month ahead, the reception still struggled to determine and fulfil what are my preferences as stated in my booking. Then the whole family had to wait for more than 2 hours for the room to be ready. The only saving grace in this fiasco was a 'Porter' named Sapie. He was good enough to check and try to help settle our problems. It shows that although not paid a better salary and position as the reception, he has the smarts and humility to actually attend with respect every paying guest. UNlike the reception staff that don't look happy and courteous at all to attend to ANY guest. A reception staff even slammed the phone when queried when our room will be ready, and when we complained, even the supervisor didn't know who it was. REALLY?? My advice is to better train them or get new staff all together before they bring the hotel's name down. One more grouse was the faulty lift that made us stuck in the lift and despite ringing the bell a dozen times no hotel staff came to help. Luckily a guest there heard it and helped open the door. Even the emergency intercom didn't work. This is dangerous!

Review 38：Rooms very comfortable, breakfast was good. Parking was convenient too. Some staff was very attentive and good to guest that made us forget 1 or 2 disappointing episodes.

Review 45：7hrs without electricity, i cant sleep the whole night, only can sleep in the morning, im driving all the way from nilai to jb for meeting, too tired but too dispointed when im about to rest and the hotel which is 4 star hotel no electrity , i cant sleep, and the next day the hotel didnt give us any service recovery for what was happen.

Review 47：There is only open parking a mile away on a hill and u have to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs to get to your car so if you have lots of bags i suggest you drop it at the lobby first. I personally prefer to lug my own luggage so i found this very inconvenient

Coffee & tea making facilities very useful. Room service steak was tasty but the black pepper sauce had just a tad too much pepper.shopping centre right next door.

Only Deluxe Room has been renovated recently - My check in was late by 2 hours because King size Bed room was not yet ready. Only can check in at 4 pm. No token was given for this issue. Receptionist face like don't give a damn at all - Really Dirty Room Window (From outside) - Hard to sleep at night (Kind of horror feeling at that time)

And the food that was almost finish was not replenish quickly i.e. fruits. Some main food was cold. Swimming pool should put in umbrella shades for all the chairs / resting areas as we tend to go in after 9-10 so it was quite hot. Was not comfortable to be at the swimming pool for a length of time.

Review 104：The not so good: Taxi fare was a bit expensive to Larkin bus terminal as hotel only had blue taxis waiting at lobby and cost around Rm25 for a ten minute ride as taxi had to take a slightly longer route which I agreed too, to avoid the heavy traffic of the shorter due to the Hari Raya public holiday eve. The red taxis if available would have cost half the price but none were waiting at lobby. My stay did not include breakfast so unable to comment on breakfast spread and food.

Review 105：The Good: Check in and check out was efficient and quick on a busy eve of public holiday. Staff reasonably friendly. The hotel room was spacious and came with a lot of essential items like shaver, toothbrush, toothpaste and shower cap apart from the standard items that hotels provide. Room was ready at check in and cooling as air cond was already switched on at time of checking in by staff. Hotel provided a non smoking room as requested and was flexible in extending check out to 1pm to suit my schedule. There is a shopping complex next door and shops a further 5 to 10 min walk away. Location was convenient. This hotel would be suitable for those on business and also those on family holidays whether for a night or more.

Review 106：The twin bed room is spacious and relatively clean. The bathroom has all the amenities such as toothbrush, comb etc. I like the location as it is easy to get a cab at the nearby Holiday Plaza or in front of the hotel. I always stay at this hotel for a staycation or shopping trip.

Review 113：The reception who attended to me and my family. We reach Mutiara hotel around 3pm plus due to the jam in checkpoint. However, when we reached, the reception has problem understanding my booking from booking.com. They found my booking from the system but i dont understand why we were put on hold at the lobby for quite sometime for them to check the booking again. THe name appear on my booking was my login ID from booking.com but i had given every details they needed and not sure what not convince them. Afterall i am happy with Mutiara just hope the reception, can be more efficient in future.

Review 115：Wall light was malfunction for the first night. Call the operator to fix and technician came to troubleshoot. However, technician said need to get some spare and quit then didn't turn back. This was fix when the second day call to the operator and get another technician to fix it.

Review 117：As there was no one at the registration counter, I went to the check-out counter and told the lady I wanted to check it. She did not say anything to me but called out to her colleague "Terry!" seated some distance at the customer service desk to attend to me. She could have said "Please give us a minute - I will get my colleague to attend to you". But she did not.

Review 118：We accidentally left the "Do Not Disturb Sign" on our door when we went out. Mr. Vincent from the hotel called us on our mobile later in the afternoon to reconfirm and we said no, we wanted our room cleaned and it was done by the time we returned an hour later.

Review 120：The newly refurbished rooms are stellar! They've done a great job keeping the look classic and traditional. Great area with a old school mall next door and only a 10 minute walk to a supersize mall will Tesco among other large shops. Several great restaurants within a couple of minutes walk.Will return for sure!

The Polo lounge many years ago was a classy place, now full of TV screens and football flags, but amazingly it allowed people to smoke, not seen a bar like that in years. Did not go in again.

We like the location, next to Holiday Plaza where the children go crazy over gadgets, and also the fact that the hotel's coffee house is either 24 hours or closes very late. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable ... even the single bed can fit two people.
