Reviews for Lodge Schiheil
Review 1:The rooms have traditional Japanese futon beds which are pretty firm if you're not used to it. Not a problem for us, but worth mentioning.
Review 2:Very friendly owners make this place a joy to stay! They speak a little English and go out of their way to understand and help you. The food in their restaurant is excellent and very good value too! The hot tub/onsen is a nice bonus and everything is nice and clean. The place is located right next to the ski slope, so ski in/out is possible. It is about 10 min walk to the centre of town and bus stop to Hakuba.
Review 3:The final slope to get to the hotel is reasonable so pack light or arrange transport. Very few restaurants/establishments open if not full ski season so can be hard to find a place to eat.
Review 4:Very friendly, helpful staff (even with limited english). Great Japanese meals from the kitchen at night. Fantastic hot tub. Perfect location for skiing (unfortunately was a late season and wasn't any snow on the slope/run outside hotel but still accessible on top of mountain)
Review 5:Wifi didn't reach the rooms so you had to sit close to reception. Out of peak season the lodge is not ski in ski out but the gondola is about a 10 minute walk away. Cash only everywhere which is a bit of an inconvenience.
Review 6:The family that run the lodge are fantastic and really went out of their way for us. They drove us to the convenient store and the ski rental shop and secured a discount for us on equipment. The rooms are basic but comfortable. The barrel bath is a nice bonus.
Review 7:The family that runs the place is very nice. The facilities are perfect for snow lovers. It is located right next to a ski slope. They have a very nice "barrel tub".
Review 8:The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They can speak some english. We can see that they were doing their best to understand what we are saying and we appreciate that. Everything went smoothly. If you are checking in don't forget to ring the bell on their desk and they'll come running to you. :) Hotpot / Shabu shabu - the food was awesome. After a tiring day, a hot bowl of meat and vegetables would end the night. We paid 2,000 yen each and the food was enough for us. But if you are really hungry and can eat like a sumo wrestler then you can choose tabehodai or eat all you can for 3,000 yen. The pudding for dessert was excellent. Location - it's directly beside the Tsugaike beginner's trail. You can stop in the middle of the beginner's area and go straight to the hotel. No need to walk, you can ski or snowboard from the hotel to the gondola ticket booth. Room - traditional Japanese room where you sleep in a futon and comforter. The room was spacious and can fit 3 to 4 people. Some important info: - You can take bath from 4pm to 10pm only. Check for the schedule this might change. - Heater is gas operated so in case you run out in the middle of the night then you can ask for a refill. The staff is there 24 hours. - Path to the lodge is 500m uphill. Pack light. - They also have barrel bath but needs to be reserved. - Hotpot dinner meal starts at 6:30pm and also needs a 1 day reservation.
Review 9:Terrific location and great value.
Review 10:Yummy home made food, very clean common bathroom, lovely staff, excellent location.
