Reviews for Ansonia on Lydiard
Review 1:Nothing negative really except our room was a little smaller than expected. Ok for a single night. In hindsight we should have booked a larger option.
Review 2:Great position, lovely staff and facilities.
Review 3:Great Location and it was nice and quiet. Extremely hot day on arrival and the staff had the air con on and room was very cool and comfortable. Staff very friendly.
Review 4:Just one complaint - there are not any car parking facilities. That is a big problem for customers, particularly if you are there, on an extended stay.
Review 5:Well located, very welcoming and friendly, making one feel like home away from home.
Review 6:Our upstairs room was a bit on the small size and was looking a bit tired. The phone was broken and the ceiling fan didn't work properly. Recommend the Atrium room instead.
Review 7:Pleasant older hotel with good atmosphere and friendly receptionists. Comfy clean bed, bathroom and hot shower.
Review 8:Needs a bit of a paint. Had to ring several times as the lady didn't get back to me as promised and didn't send throughout codes etc for after hrs entry as promised.
Review 9:Heritage building with beautiful features. Had everything you needed and was clean and tidy in the centre of town. Walking distance to the main street and restaurants.
Review 10:The smoke detector going off at 7.00am on Saturday morning and a very loud airconditioner above us that came on about 5.30am. Had to ask for pillows and towel for third person even though we had already booked for 3 of us.
Review 11:Attractive old building in good location.
Review 12:I went for dinner and when I returned the door was locked. David had given me the numbers to open the door but like a fool I was pulling it and it was meant to be pushed I rang and David came very quickly but I think 7pm is too early to lock up.
Review 13:The staff were lovely and I felt like nothing was too much trouble.
Review 14:Having to park at the car park and getting a ticket even though I stayed in the allocated spaces. However the hotel picked up the ticket to dispute'
Review 15:Central to everything.
Review 16:No lunch or dinner available. Did not live up to photographs on web site. Executive suite did not live up to expectations. View of roof tops.
Review 17:We liked the location. Staff were friendly and room was clean.
Review 18:What a fantastic environment in a delightful location. As soon as you swing into the driveway you just know that the property is going to deliver. So comfortable for the three families that made the trip to Bright.
Review 19:It would be great if you could invest in some decent pillows.
Review 20:My friend and I loved the fact we could walk to everything we needed to do during our stay.
Review 21:Lack of a good light above the entry code machine at the front door. Coffee machine made luke warm coffee at breakfasts.
Review 22:location. Relaxing breakfasts. Close location of the secure car park.
Review 23:No parking is a drawback. Also, it is an old building, which is charming, but it has very squeaky floorboards! The shower over the bath is a bit dangerous, and there was no hand rail.
Review 24:The location is very convenient.
Review 25:No parking. Limited paid parking in front of hotel. Paid parking everywhere else in city centre. Hotel restaurant closed in evening even though advertised onsite as available. Breakfast had thawed bread.
Review 26:Central To city centre
Review 27:Some rooms upstairs and no lift. Not a problem for us but beware if this could be a difficulty. Breakfast okay but coffee not up to standard in dining room.
Review 28:Clean, comfortable room. Good bed. Central location but quiet. Interesting old building with library /reading room downstairs.
Review 29:No free parking around the hotel on weekday before 5 pm and Saturday morning. The towels weren't changed everyday and also shampoo & conditioner weren't filled.
Review 30:Very convenient Location
Review 31:Lack of on-site parking is a major drawback, particularly given that there is only 1 hr metered parking out the front until 5.30 pm (Mon to Sat), and the area is then sought after for theater parking in the evening. If you lose your spot its hard to get near the hotel until late evening. Room was clean and OK, but a bit tired and dated in some regards. Bathroom clean and adequate. All in all perhaps a bit overpriced compared with what else is on offer in the town.
Review 32:Conveniently located near to art gallery, nice hotels (that offer good meals) and central shopping. Friendly, helpful reception.
Review 33:There was no alarm clock in the room
Review 34:Friendly staff very accommodating to an early Saturday start. The room was spacious. Restaurant was pleasant the outside area was beautiful
Review 35:Blinds didn't work and were dirty. Bathroom tired but clean. No microwave or toaster. Noise from other rooms, toilet flushing, shower running, people moving around upstairs.
Review 36:Location. Atrium.
Review 37:The floorboards in the bathrooms were all very noisy, we could hear out neighbours walking around!
Review 38:Great location, very pleasant helpful staff and much more character than staying in a boring motel.
Review 39:Light/heater in bathroom (3 minutes) not a good idea. Light is needed to apply makeup but heater (especially in summer) not pleasant.
Review 40:Very convenient location. Excellent breakfast, very pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 41:The room was a little warm probably from the internal heating located in the atrium. Stepping into the bath for a shower may need to be considered for older people.
Review 42:The size of the rooms was excellent and the hospitality by Liz and David added to the feeling of the place . They gave us good information about what to do in our time frame in Ballarat.
Review 43:The location, the traditional old feel of the building , the facilities - the lounge room with open fire for the group to gather. Also the greeting by David as he waited for us to arrive on Friday night
Review 44:No bad experience but the bed squeaked & the bathroom bad in was badly cracked.
Review 45:A warm, comfortable place. Very friendly & warm welcome. Unfortunately we had to leave early each day so couldn't have breakfast but we would recommend the Ansonia to others.
Review 46:Parking is a bit tricky and as system of numbers and arrows painted on the footpath by the Council is not clear, we inadvertently paid for the spot next to us and received a $55 fine. (Result of our complaint is still pending) The Council obviously targets the 1 hour parking around the hotel as a cash cow.
Review 47:Liked the friendliness of the staff and the excellent breakfast.
Review 48:Lack of free parking may be a problem for some
Review 49:One of my favourite places to stay in Ballarat. Love the nice deep bath, super comfy bed and the attractive decor. The restaurant is nice, (although not open every night), and the location is great.
Review 50:David and Liz were excellent hosts,so friendly and it gave us the feeling we were staying at a B&B. The surroundings were beautiful, so cosy and quiet. Being in the heritage precinct gave it a special feel, it was in walking distance to everything. Would recommend in an instant.
Review 51:Unique accommodation experience, located centrally and across the road from theatre. Host was pleasant, informative and welcoming. Very comfortable. Will return now that its been discovered.
Review 52:Change of management has resulted in a slight decline in the quality of facilities.
Review 53:The location and the room. The building also remains very attractive.
Review 54:the stairs but that only because i have a bad knee. I guess the beauty of the building a lift ??? But to have the room we wanted my knee???????
Review 55:Loved the room the bed was good and very friendly staff.
Review 56:loved the history surrounding the old buildings. Big double apartment plenty of room for a family of four. David our host was a real character made us feel very welcome!!
Review 57:Not a bad experience as such, just that certain things in the room, mainly the bathroom, needed a bit of TLC.
Review 58:A very warm welcome was lovely and staff were very helpful. We were within walking distance of the centre of town. Loved breakfast.
Review 59:As it was winter and very cold the crisp white cotton sheets were a killer maybe an electric blanket would of made it perfect
Review 60:The warmth of the place As you walked in and it's history
Review 61:poor 'free' Wi-Fi reception. Parking would be inconvenient if staying during the week
Review 62:Very friendly reception/waiter David. Made to feel welcome and interesting to talk to
Review 63:Everything. Staff, accommodation, food, hospitality. We felt welcome from the minute we walked in the door. Staff and management were so friendly and helpful.
Review 64:In the bathroom there could have been a cupboard under the sink to put personal products e.g. hairdryer, straightener etc.
Review 65:The location was very good, quiet, lovely.
Review 66:It was a little squishy moving around the room, not a lot of space between the furniture. Would be ok for just one person.
Review 67:Loved the location and the boutique feel of the place. Would have liked to stay longer to enjoy the reading nooks and restaurant.
Review 68:Could not open window to let in fresh air and the window opened onto an internal courtyard. Bathroom and bedroom are "tired" - not enough hangers for a social weekend away and room had lost its sparkle, given the cost of the room.
Review 69:Location, size of room and comfortable facilities. Friendly and accommodating staff.
Review 70:Lack of parking (relying upon on-street parking) could be a problem for some. OK for those arriving after 5pm and leaving before 9am.
Review 71:I liked everything about this hotel - unusual architecture and history, location etc. I didn't use the business facilities or have breakfast.
Review 72:The bed was really hard and it took ages to warm up the room on a really cold night.
Review 73:The welcome and helpfulness of the staff. Good bathroom and shower. Loved the original heritage features of the building.
Review 74:It was not made perfectly clear that car parking was in the street and subject to parking meters. Off-street parking would be desirable.Comfortabn
Review 75:Staff hospitality and room comfort.
Review 76:No parking.... Was annoying having to pay or walk a long way to get free parking. The wifi wasn't working Most of the staff were lovely
Review 77:The bathroom and bed room was clean. Close to the main street
Review 78:Staff could be a bit more friendly and high windows would benefit from being covered. Was able to hear next door having shower which was great at 4.30 am
Review 79:This place is ideally located, and set in a beautiful building. Beds and facilities are good. Bathroom is good and shower great.
Review 80:Lack of on site vehicle parking was disappointing. The room was also dusty, so more attention to this would be good.
Review 81:The location was really good and the atrium was warm and inviting.
Review 82:A jug of fresh milk would be preferable to those awful tetra packs. The artificial plants look awful. Electric blankets would be a good idea and the heating system could be turned on in the rooms.
Review 83:The bed was comfy.
Review 84:The shower was in the bathtub & could do with an upgrade. No TV in the main bedroom.
Review 85:The Suite was big & the bed was comfortable. Very well located for the pubs & restaurants of the entertainment quarter of Ballarat.
Review 86:not really climbing the stairs were a bit hard on me as i have heart problem.
Review 87:It was easy to get to but parking was a problem in the arvo all things in the room were ok.
Review 88:Np on site parking which led to us getting a parking fine.
Review 89:It was a great to have the two rooms where our son could play his games while watched TV. Good location to the Main Street and we loved the hotel restaurant. Great breakfast and Dinner.
Review 90:Large, clean comfortable rooms. Lovely sunny atrium area. Easy walking distance to centre of town and train station. Excellent restaurant (Tues-Sat only). Courteous staff.
Review 91:No car park so we had to pay for parking each day. Also we couldn't always find a park close to th hotel. The wifi was not always reliable.
Review 92:The convenient location. We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants and other attractions. The guest lounge was a very pleasant place to relax as was the sunny atrium. The onsite restaurant was good.
Review 93:The parking is horrible, street metered parking from 9-5.30 and no free parking around the area The rooms are just off the hallway so doesn't feel so private when people are walking to and from the restaurant
Review 94:The restaurant is really nice but a bit pricey and the rooms were nice and big
Review 95:The front door gets closed at 2030. Made returning from dinner a little weird.
Review 96:Ballarat was a good stop over. The hotel was within walking distance of good hotels/pubs.
Review 97:We arrived at Ballarat a bit early and decided to walk around the central city we called into our hotel to find out where was the best place to park. He did not seem to be expecting us, told us we were too early come back at 2pm and told us there was 1 hour parking only but around the corner there was all day parking if you can find one. When we came back at 2pm we paid in full no registration taken. A ceiling light and radio in room were not working, I was told most people bring their own music and he could fix the light. When we asked directions to an event he told us he didn't know he was not local. In short he and John Gleese could have been brothers
Review 98:comfortable and homely with seating in atrium outside room. Very good restaurant
Review 99:The blinds in our room let the light in at night. Breakfast was confusing when ordering the scrambled eggs were so full of cream & butter they were in eatable. No car parking meter parking only.
Review 100:The location was very good for our requirements
Review 101:No lift to upstairs rooms. No onsite parking. However the car was safe enough parked in the street.
Review 102:The staff were very helpful. The on site resturant was convenient and their food was excellent. Location was central to the main city area.
Review 103:Had a problem with the key into the door each time. While I was advised this was the case, I think it's best that this be fixed, rather than explaining it to the customers.
Review 104:No on site parking. Meter at the front, car left overnight on the main street.
Review 105:Beautiful building. Nice room, good bathroom facilities. Breakfast well presented.
Review 106:The set up was generally excellent. The only critical comment is that 1 very small package of milk in the fridge is not adequate for a couple - could not 2 become the norm for a couple?
Review 107:Wonderful ambience blending history with contemporary comfort, much like Ballarat itself.
Review 108:10am checkout is not very convenient on the weekend, we were in a front room so it was noisy at night, no car parking.
Review 109:Tastefully done renovations. Good service. Is isn't eat breakfast but others did and said it was fantastic. Library room would have been great if we stayed longer.
Review 110:There was nothing to dislike
Review 111:The hotel is well designed with plenty of natural light in the ground floor atrium. There are several areas in which to enjoy a quiet read, or drink. Service was seamless, thanks to the excellent staff.
Review 112:We were disappointed that the evening meal was not offered on the Wednesday night we were there. We would have been glad to know the shower was over the bath and the room up stairs with no lift. Parking during the day incurred a fee.
Review 113:The ambience was very pleasant. The room tastefully furnished. Staff were courteous.
Review 114:This is billed as a historic building, which it is from the photos on the website, and priced to match but bedrooms have a somewhat basic modernised feel and it ends up being nothing special which is what we were expecting having come from the UK for a one night stay in a historic Australian town. The Wi Fi is not up to modern standards either and frustrating when you dont know your way around and need to find places in Ballarat!
Review 115:Creaky floorboards. Finding people sitting outside right outside my atrium room.
Review 116:Heritage building in great location, good facilities. Quiet - no traffic noise or loud bands.
Review 117:It was a little dark and I would have liked to have had a window to the outside.
Review 118:We had a quiet room that was quite spacious and had pleasing decor. Very convenient location opposite the Theatre
Review 119:No parking except street with meters Free wifi didn't work in room Only one room had AC Front desk only open till 9 PM Only one key provided for 4 people Stairway needs refinishing and painting
Review 120:Location Shower
Review 121:lack of car parking , particularly so close to the centre of Ballarat
Review 122:comfortable and stylish accommodation with excellent facilities for an extended stay
Review 123:No hotel car parking, guests should be entitled to free or discounted parking out front. It is a pain to have to go and put some money in by 9am or if you arrive back before 5 30pm. Although the hotel was fantastic, I would look for a different hotel next time based on the car parking.
Review 124:Very lovely place, very comfortable and the service was great.
Review 125:Wifi was far too slow.
Review 126:An oasis of comfort and serenity. The rooms were impeccably clean, bed linen crisp, bathroom spotless and the breakfast abundant. Comes highly recommended
Review 127:A short overnight stay where we checked in late & left early. Location is great, fast check-in. We were able to park overnight right in front of the hotel. Would definitely recommend.
Review 128:It was a Saturday night, lots of Christmas parties/traffic in the restaurant strip until early morning. Had to walk through other bedroom to get to bathroom.
Review 129:Within walking distance to restaurants; fantastic breakfast with good service; friendly staff; good shower.
Review 130:Parking might be an issue for some as the hotel does not have designated parking spaces. We parked right out front on Lydiard St but it was a quiet Sunday night, so it was fine for us.
Review 131:Close proximity to Central Ballarat - Art Gallery, etc. Lovely breakfast and surrounds. High ceilings gave the room a feeling of greater spaciousness.
Review 132:the close proximity of this Hotel to the main street and most of the places we wanted to visit. The hotel was lovely, the staff were wonderful and the breakfast was delicious. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Ansonia, I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Review 133:I can't understand why you would offer free wifi when the speed is so slow that it is unusable. In fact using my iPhone as a wireless device was at least five times faster
Review 134:Non pretentious accomodation in a great location. Comfortable and good value for money
Review 135:The rooms were large and comfortable and the bathroom just as large. There were heaps of areas to sit and relax outside the room and having a good restaurant on the premises was a bonus. Centrally located in Ballarat.
Review 136:Outlook from room average & bathroom very much needing in renovation. ie very cracked pedestal basin.
Review 137:Location very good, breakfast/dining room excellent
