Reviews for Ave Gratia Plena

Review 1:Best not to try to access by car. Ask beforehand to book garage and for address of garage. There is garage relatively accessible from motorway exit then 10 mins walk to hotel. 13 Euros per night

Review 2:Wonderful site, beautiful old convent, good breakfast, big rooms but very simple, helpful staff

Review 3:Beds very uncomfortable - able to feel springs through mattress, bath towels very thin like a tea towel. Be prepared to pay some extra euros if you are not a hostel member.

Review 4:Location, friendly staff, great view from our 4th floor room, good consistent wifi, enough variety & portions with provided breakfast

Review 5:Historical building renovated from convention, with modern and new facility inside. The courtyard is perfect for breakfast (which is very good!) under the blue sky, or simply relaxing after long day traveling. The double room is bright and clean with good bathroom. Location of the hostel is in the heart of the lively old town, with easy walking distance to the seafront and most attraction. Highly recommend to anyone who travels to Salerno.

Review 6:we booked a comfort room for which we paid an extra cost as it meant that the bathroom was recently renovated. Unfortunately the bathroom was clearly not renovated... When we ask reception about it, they affirmed that the bathroom was renovated, that the one in the picture of the website was another type of renovation.... We were very disappointed as it was a completly lie! The bathroom furniture was outdated (from the 80's!!. Too bad they have to lie to make some extra money. Room was 31

Review 7:It is located in the middle of the historical center, so it is very convenient.

Review 8:Good value as it is well located and clean and staff were very pleasant. Salerno is a lovely place to stay and less touristy than Amalfi and Sorrento which can both be easily reached by ferry for a day trip.

Review 9:The courtyard can sometimes be noisy and can be heard in your room, but guests were courteous most nights.

Review 10:Lovely helpful staff, a nice breakfast and a comfortable room. Fan was needed in the summer as Salerno was really hot. But enjoyed our stay. We had a nice view from the 4th floor as well :-)

Review 11:-Worst wifi ever -extremely difficult to access hotel with a car -Nearest public parking house is a couple of blocks away making it extremely difficult to get luggage to the hotel -No airconditioning in the room. -Too much noise from other guests in the evening.

Review 12:Loud local residents sometimes made it hard to sleep at night.

Review 13:Peaceful tranquility amongst the buzzing of the motor scooters....A very nice courtyard where you could read or eat in a calm setting. Very restful atmosphere.

Review 14:This hostel was tucked away on a quiet street with a lovely courtyard. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. When finding I needed an extra blanket at night, I was provided with an extra bed spread, which worked just fine. Breakfast was good - many selections of breads, cereals, and fruit. I was on the top floor and had a great view of rooftops and the water.

Review 15:I really can't stand the easy-listening music they pump out into the courtyward all day.

Review 16:I love the old building, how quiet it is, how helpful the staff are, the views, the terrace, the fountain...

Review 17:We liked the position and the views from the top floor were very good. The showers were the best we had had on our trip even in the 4 star hotels. The breakfast also was very good. The whole place was very clean, basic but very good value however

Review 18:The biggest problem was to come with the car to the hotel. The streets in old town are very small, very difficult to go with car and it is difficult to find the hotel also with GPS. Parking near hotel is impossible, because all places are busy. Parking garage for 20 Eur is 0,5km, for 13 Eur 2 km from hotel. We don't want to come back with our car in small streets again, so we leave most of our baggage in the car.

Review 19:Internet is working, the breakfast is OK, we lived in tripple room in 4.floor. The beautiful sight throw window, beautiful music in inner courtyard. Old town is arround hotel, good for walk.

Review 20:Breakfast is a bit on the skimpy side.

Review 21:We first stayed here two years ago and we enjoyed it so much, we returned again in November 2014! The double private rooms are spotless. Rooms on higher floors have great views. Clean, comfortable, bright, airy, simple (all white walls and furniture, in keeping with the former convent look). Hot water 24/7 and strong water pressure in the shower. Very helpful staff (they directed us to an inexpensive parking garage nearby when we arrived in our rental car). All around excellent hotel/hostel!

Review 22:- hostel residents partied in the internal yard till 1:30am - windows not really sound proof

Review 23:- amazing view from the window to the roofs & rising sun - comparatively quiet (for weekend and center of Salerno) location

Review 24:The helful and friendly staff. The beautiful historic building. The cleanliness. Value for money. La Duca restaurant, just around the corner. The most expensive meal we had there included lobster for 2, with 1.5 litres of wine, coffees, cost us around E50.00. Others were around E30.00.

Review 25:The place is located at the city centre. It is a youth hostel. The personnel is really helpful.

Review 26:Everything is super nice. Great and varied breakfast, clean rooms, nice stuff, good prices.

Review 27:It is dificult to get there with a car and find parking. Beds were realy unconfortable.

Review 28:Location prety good, helpful stuff.

Review 29:Great surroundings, fantastic building, nice staff. No complaints.

Review 30:Everything was very good! I would recommend it with no doubts at all.

Review 31:Fantastic place, great sea view from the top floor, lot of architectural character

Review 32:You can hear everything.

Review 33:The staff was very helpful. The location is decent. And the breakfast is a great typical Italian continental breakfast.

Review 34:It was a little noisy in this location

Review 35:Staff were very nice and kept very clean

Review 36:Clean, comfortable and reliable wifi. Good location to bus stop and tourist attractions.

Review 37:Some would say the beds are too hard..

Review 38:Light, clean, open spaces, elevator, and roof terrace

Review 39:Very hard uncomfortable pillows.

Review 40:Almost everything. Staff are just great!

Review 41:everything

Review 42:a little awkward for parking

Review 43:as above

Review 44:Quality of the Coffee

Review 45:Ancient building

Review 46:Not fully accessible. Need to walk up several high steps to elevator. No a/c which is fine if the weather is chilly outside. Had we wanted to sleep with open windows in the summer the street noise would have been bothersome.

Review 47:Nice atmosphere. Large room.

Review 48:We needed to leave before 7:00 am to catch a train so missed the breakfast which was provided at 7:00. It would have been nice to at least have a cup of coffee before we left the hotel, but none was available.

Review 49:This was a perfect economical place for us to stay for an evening before boarding the train. Staff was very helpful. Room was quite sufficient for a couple and two related adults. We loved the view from our room at dusk. Wish we could have stayed in Solerno longer to enjoy the beautiful old city center.

Review 50:The shower cabin in our room was very small. We missed better indications to get to the private parking offered by the hostel. Probably directions at the same level of quality as the ones given to arrive to the hostel by car would do the trick.

Review 51:Perfect location. Right in the hearth of the old town. Most of the city highlights are in a walking distance. Perfect for people looking for a comfort at a low price.

Review 52:Noisy guests who didn't care about others during night hours. But that has nothing to do with the hostel but people/guests themselves.

Review 53:Location, organization of the hostel, room (small but cute) and the view from the window at the sea!

Review 54:Ave Gratia Plena exceeded my expectations, although the rooms are simple as you would expect in a hostel, just outside our door was a large terrance. Upstairs there was another large terrace with a great view. A courtyard and library provide even more enjoyable common space.

Review 55:It has no television in room. No wifi in room. It is like being in a school or hospital. It is as basic as basic can be. And for that it is not even cheap or is it reflected in the price.

Review 56:Nothing.

Review 57:This place was somewhat hard to find.

Review 58:Atmosphere! This is located in a converted convent. They have a laundry facility which was a real plus. The breakfast room was a great place for meeting other travelers. Close to the major attractions, as well as a walkable distance to the train station and buses to Positano/Paestrum. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 59:the central courtyard is a bit noisy and sound travels up toward bedrooms. A small inconvenience.

Review 60:A lovely old priory in the older part of town. Beautifully upgraded, and bright clean white painted rooms. Excellent front desk staff and all at a great bargain price.

Review 61:Hard to fault, cannot pick on anything given the budget great stay.

Review 62:Top room beautiful ambiance windows opened at night safe see the starts and ocean. Great court yard helpful staff, very good staff. great location

Review 63:Some found mattresses uncomfortable. All day 'lift' music a bit irritating

Review 64:Very relaxing atmosphere. Basic but comfortable room (for some). Good bathroom.

Review 65:parking some distance away, but there is the opportunity to come to the hotel and leave luggage ..

Review 66:a great place in the old town, with a beautiful view out the window .. good value for money. good wander through a beautiful old town ..

Review 67:The rooms had no refrigerators or kitchen facilities. No place to hangclothes to dry. Hard to find (what they call streets, I would not, thatmade it hard to find). There is no place to park, but they suggested aprivate lot which cost us €13 per night. Not a great selection forbreakfast.

Review 68:Really close to shops and cbd. Staff were friendly and very helpful andspoke English. When using the washing machine, they gave you a key tothe laundry, so that no one could go in and take your washing out exceptyourself. We really enjoyed our stay here. The negatives are just littlethings that we got around. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Review 69:A bit far from the train station if you walk with a heavy luggage. Room can face a noisy street (no traffic, but loud talks, garbage cleaning, motor bikes).

Review 70:Definitely recommendable for budget travelers. Great value for money. There is a seafood place 2-3 min walk, which is a must to try.

Review 71:Friendly, helpful stuff. The view from 4th floor. Absolutely amazing room ( double in 4th floor) according to the fact of it being a hostel. Location. Welcoming drink. Amazing evenings with music, drinks in the inside yard. AMAZING!

Review 72:Seating a little flimsey in breakfast area but that is very minor.

Review 73:Great.beautiful place. Lovely old convent, shows how well you can spend your money. The only hostel we stayed in on our travels in Italy and it was fantastic. Great room. Very clean, lovely bar, well organised staff.

Review 74:The mattresses were horribly lumpy!

Review 75:The staff were excellent very friendly and helpful and mostly spoke english. The location was great in Salerno- not far from the ferry port. The rooms were surprisingly cool in the heat of June as they only had ceiling fans. On arriving I was surprised to find that it was a backpacker hostel though I didnt think it was advertised as one when I booked here. Still great value for money.

Review 76:Bar left unattended in early evening so had to leave to find a drink elsewhere

Review 77:Large Rooms, Lift, Fantastic Breakfast, Bright & Airy, Very helpful receptionist with good English

Review 78:Dificult to find, however with the hostel instruction we made itin one go.

Review 79:Interesting place, in fact it is a youth hostel however with hotel likefacilities. Good breakfast. Wi-Fi. And right in the center of the oldtown. We were with a car and it is highly advisable to follow theinstruction of the hostel to get there as it is in the Zone TrafficoLimitado. If you have a gps (navigation systems):1. set the destination Salerno, Corso Garibaldi (Via Roma) 2. when you have reached Corso Garibaldi set the destination Via Antica Corte 3. when you drive on the Corsa Garibaldi towards the west a about hundred meters before you reach Via Antica Corte you see some park like area with trees and the end is a redish building at the left you should be at the very narrow Via Antica Corte. 4. turn right into Via Antica Corte, it’s monitored by the cameras and is where the ZTL zone starts. You reach a T crossing go left en than first right I believe and you are almost there and ask. Or: set there address Via dei Canali The hostek recommends a garage nearby.

Review 80:No internet in hotel room, not the best signal in shared areas either but better than others have reported - had no trouble uploading blog posts and streaming AV. Odd tasting coffee for breakfast.

Review 81:Beautiful sparse white, clean decor - really classic Amalfi style, comfy beds, great hot showers with good pressure, view from balcony on top floor (private rooms) *amazing*, breakfast not bad (enough food), lovely central courtyard with fish and fountain, great location off main road among small cobblestone laneways and next to church, close to good food, waterfront and main street.

Review 82:Leaving!

Review 83:A very fine room with an interesting view of urban life, coupled with a great horizon. A friendly atmosphere throughout the hostel. Helpful staff. Great location. Extras at breakfast (pre-ordered). An all-round pleasant experience.

Review 84:Noise from the square below was a problem, particularly on one nightwhen two noisy guests had to be evicted. Even normal noise levels herewere often a problem, with street cleaners and garbage collectors makinga lot of noise in the early hours of the morning and a group ofgossiping women in the afternoon.

Review 85:Friendly, helpful staff, who after checking that the room had beencleaned let me check in a little early. In an area close to good budgetrestaurants.

Review 86:2 beds either king size bed parking which was very far Bad Breakfast

Review 87:The building : midle matching between design and tradition. The space (bathroom and room)

Review 88:nothing

Review 89:had a double room with twin beds and ensuite. very good value for the price. ideally located in the old town and near to the bus stop for the Amalfi coast.

Review 90:Beautiful building, clean rooms, very accommodating. Highly recommended.

Review 91:A bit far from the train station and ferry port.

Review 92:Spacious room and bathroom with excellent shower. Good location for old city sites and restaurants.
