Reviews for Hotel Plaza
Review 1:High ceilings with tall French doors opening onto a terrace facing the train station. Easy walking down Salerno's seaside promenade (with the lighted penguin exhibit on the rocks), the lovely shopping area and Il Giardini Incantato which was bedecked in glorious Christmas displays. Lovely, helpful staff.
Review 2:The view from our room overlooking the piazza was wonderful - it was Christmas time so lights everywhere. Location was perfect - right across the piazza from the train station. So easy. Breakfast was good with delicious brioches. The hotel is right next to the main promenade - location plus! Room was clean, light & airy.
Review 3:The price was decent, but Albergo Santa Rosa tends to be around $40 cheaper per night and is just as conveniently located.
Review 4:You can't beat the location. It's in the center of Salerno with the train station located across the piazza, and the ferry docks a short walk away. The bathroom was small, but nice.
Review 5:Not as clean and no where near value for money asfar less expensive accommodation in close proximity to this hotel
Review 6:The llocation was perfect and staff very obliging
Review 7:We liked the staff who were very friendly and made you feel at home. They were extremely helpful with any questions and were happy to provide all kinds of tourist advice.
Review 8:This hotel is in a good location, just opposite the train station. Staff were professional and pleasant. The room was a good size and beds were comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 9:We came to Salerno by ferry and it's a long walk to hotel. We weren't able to buy a bus ticket. If you come by train it's a 2 minute walk
Review 10:Nothing not to like
Review 11:We stayed at this hotel on two separate occasions, and depending which floor you are allocated it can be a little noisy due to renovations taking place around the building. Other than this, a good motel that ticks all the boxes for the price.
Review 12:If you are entering or leaving Salerno via train or hire car as we were, this hotel is in a great location, with breakfast (which was good) and is in walking distance to the old and new town and train station, with Hertz across the road. Staff were also great, very friendly and helpful and accommodating.
Review 13:Nothing.
Review 14:Staff was very very helpful. The hotel is owned by a family and has that atmosphere of being cared for. A great place to stay when away from home. The location couldn't be better. Central, on a very lively street, close to buses and ferries.
Review 15:Shower didn't drain. Couldn't turn heating on and it was very cold. Spare blankets smelt of cigarette smoke.
Review 16:Good location if you need to be near the station. It is just across the road. Rooms large and spacey.
Review 17:Very nice place and very close to the train station. There is all kind of good places to eat very close to the hotel. For me it was and ideal place to stay. It game me the opportunity to get all kind of transportation. Is at walking distance to all sort of public transportation. The staff was very nice. The breakfast is super. I enjoy every minute of my stay in Salerno and highly recommend Hotel Plaza.
Review 18:The city noise on the square by the train station was intense. The construction being done on the square began work at daybreak about 5AM. It was very noisy. The staff were weak in helping with restaurant recommendations & touring options.
Review 19:Location by train station was convenient on arrival to walk to hotel. The breakfast was sufficient for a European Continental Breakfast.
Review 20:I was given a room overlooking a very large building site. The noise from the drills and machinery started very early in the morning and the window didn't block out the sound. It doesn't make sense to put guests (in my case a repeat visitor) in a room like this.
Review 21:Clean room, about the right price. Shame about all the noise from the street below.
Review 22:Excellent location for us as it was close to the railway station and car hire. Worked very well for our first and last night in Salerno. Convenient and nice breakfast.
Review 23:Nothing!
Review 24:The manager, Gaetano, was remarkable as he gave us a very personal view of Salerno as well as a short walking tour! He made our stay memorable and we greatly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Plaza. He served a very good breakfast with personalized service. As our exact travel days were a bit uncertain, he even allowed great flexibility in our planning. We felt very much at home. Many, many thanks. Ish and Maryann Martinez New York USA
Review 25:The location was perfect for access to trains and walking the old streets. The ownership took an interest in us and we were treated wonderfully. We drove all over southern Italy for two weeks and never found a breakfast as varied and fresh as here. We stayed extra days!
Review 26:Very clean, great location. The place needs some updating but it was very clean & comfortable. Quiet at night. Across the street from the train station. The breakfast was typical Italian.
Review 27:Very handy hotel for the station and visiting Pompeii and turned out to be great. Owner took us to our room personally and was vey helpful Large room, very comfortable bed, great shower and good breakfast. Couldn't have asked for more.
Review 28:We liked the convenience of the location along with friendliness of the staff. The hotel is consistently updated which is so wonderful to find in such a reasonably priced hotel.
Review 29:It was a bit of a hike (through good shops on a pedestrian mall) to the waterfront where the harbour and many restaurants were.
Review 30:Rapid check-in. Room well-furnished to a high standard. Just across the piazza from Salerno main railway station. Often this would mean traffic noise but I didn't detect any on the 4th floor. Lots of Italians staying here. Framed Photos of Amalfi coast, Paestum roses and Amalfi lemons told the local story. Excellent rate, great value for money.
Review 31:Nothing to dislike - a good place for a stopover.
Review 32:The location is excellent, right by the train station and easy walking to all the sights. The room was comfortable and quiet, the brake as was good and the wifi was very good. The bathroom was very good.
Review 33:Breakfast opens at 7 am (not earlier) and consists of only bread, croissants and cereal.
Review 34:Location across the square from the train station, on main pedestrian street and near waterfront is perfect. Rooms are excellent value for the price asked.
Review 35:As is common throughout a lot of our bookings, the shower didn't drain properly and you end up standing in water.
Review 36:Location, right next to the station for train travelers. Right on the end of the shopping mall yet it was lovely and quiet in our room.Breakfast was nice.
Review 37:There is a cafe across the hotel with the most unfriendly, rude staff I have ever experienced! Very rude to tourist who don't speak Italian, making jokes about you in Italian language in front of you. Would definitely never ever buy anything there again!
Review 38:Great bed (which is rare in Italy), we could park for free in front of the hotel, clean room. We where traveling so only stayed on night: it was great for this occasion. Free parking, great bed, good service, exactly what you need when you're traveling. Didn't see much of Salerno, so couldn't judge the location/neighborhood.
Review 39:Our room had scaffolding at the window so not much to see out of it but wasn't a big problem really.
Review 40:Helpful staff, very close to the train station, short walk to shops and restaurants.
Review 41:A little noisy in front room as opposite a couple of eateries/bars. all went quiet when closed. construction work being carried out in piazza so noise again in morning. but a good cheap hotel.
Review 42:We needed a hotel close to the station and it also happened to be on shopping street.
Review 43:Initial room was not as pictured and was very unpleasant; staff readily amended this on the 2nd day once another room became available. Breakfast range could be better.
Review 44:That breakfast didn't go on 24/7. !! :)
Review 45:Everything..! The location is perfect. The owner gracious and helpful. Staff is friendly and efficient. Breakfast is yummy and the bed so comfortable...!! Highly recommended..!! Can't wait to go back. :)
Review 46:Hotel owner was fantastic, providing daily advice on places to go and things to see, including some really good restaurants. Less tourists in Salerno than some other areas which provided a great opportunity to experience the cultures of southern Italy. A very quiet, comfortable and convenient hotel close to the railway station, bus services and shopping.
Review 47:Free Wi-Fi, location - near the station and in the centre of town, 1 min walk to the lungomare, quiet. Friendly owner - taking time to chat to guests over breakfast.
Review 48:We had a triple room and there wasn't much space with three beds in it. Breakfast was very basic.
Review 49:Excellent location near the train and bus stations. Beds were a lot softer than others we had encountered in Italy. Shower was excellent-good pressure and lots of hot water. The carpets in the public areas of the hotel were rather tired looking, but the rooms themselves were well presented. Our luggage was taken to our room for us.
Review 50:Wifi unreliable, hard pillows, outdated and tired looking hotel with no restaurant Tiny cramped lift but at least it makes you take the stairs!
Review 51:Location opposite the train station and cheap mini-bar
Review 52:We could by no means, use the Wi-Fi in our room. Still, on the hall was working very good and also at the reception.
Review 53:Location is perfect, right outside the train station and the very begining shopping tge restaurants street. Very close to bus and ferry stations. The staff was very polite and helping with everything. We lost a bag in the airport bus, we spoke with the young man at the reception desk and in 30 minutes with got our bag! At breakfast, in every morning was somebody (maybe the owner) and he was very attentive. Anything you want he was there to help. The air condition in the room is very good: one classic and one electrical fan.
Review 54:The outside facade looked a bit run down, however this should not put anyone off .On entering the hotel we were delighted and surprised with our choice
Review 55:Location and good value for money Reception areas and breakfast room were very classy
Review 56:The hotel free wifi is non existent so don't plan on using it.
Review 57:it's located across the street from the Salerno train station and Salerno port where you catch the water taxis to the amalfi coast.
Review 58:Is a hotel that has know better times and is poorly maintained. Staff has good manners but won't help you with anything at all. Place for leaving luggage didn't make me too happy
Review 59:Location
Review 60:First impression of building from outside was that it needed a coat of paint. Pretty run down looking.
Review 61:Hotel was right on the start of the mall and close to train station. Easy walk to the ferry for trips Amalfi Coast. Really everything at your fingertips.
Review 62:There was no power points in the room to charge mobile phones and the breakfast could have had more variety.
Review 63:The location of the hotel was excellent. Directly across from the main train/bus service and close to the port for ferries. Allowed us to achieve all our travel plans very easily. Wifi connection was super.
Review 64:The lift
Review 65:The location was really good, near the railwaystation, buses and ferries to Amalfi coast. The shopping street start from the door. Breakfast was excellent. wifi was working well.
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:Room was a good size and bed was comfortable. Staff very helpful and prompt in helping me with channel selection for news in English and operation of air conditioning. Bathroom with shower very good. Location with train station opposite is fabulous and it is only a couple of minutes walk to the ferries to Amalfi and Positano etc.
Review 68:The location of the hotel close to the train station and the ferry from Amalfi also right on the main street with lots of cafes & restaurants.
Review 69:The Wifi connection in our room was patchy but excellent in the 2nd room we booked.
Review 70:The rooms were spacious and clean. One of the best hotel breakfast we had, good selection and the breakfast room was clean and spacious
Review 71:Couldn't open window in the bathroom as it was inset into the wall about 70 cm deep and up high (I didn't want to stand on bidet to open it lest I break the bidet). Thin walls. Italian family were knocking on doors and talking loudly. Coffee machine espressos only offered to Italian residents, the rest of us got coffee from an urn.
Review 72:Proximity to transport was excellent. Room cleaned daily.
Review 73:We stayed here for 5 days last week while visiting the Amalfi coast. The hotel is across the street from the railway station, 5 min walk to the port to catch ferries to malfi and positano. We had a comfortable and quiet room with a good view of the plaza. The breakfast served was excellent and many choices.
Review 74:Super convenient location, and very quiet due to double window closures (triple glazing). Hotel manager stored our luggage in his office and walked us to bus ticket office. Big breakfast buffet: meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, cereal, croissants.
Review 75:The decor is a bit outdated, but with everything else, the Hotel Plaza is an excellent value.
Review 76:The Hotel Plaza in Salerno was the perfect home base for exploring the area. It's just across the street from the train station and a short walk to ferries to Amalfi and Positano. There are also buses available at the station to tak you to neighboring towns. They offer a very good breakfast bffet with pastries, cereals, breads, meat and cheese, yogurt, etc The hotel is spotlesly clean and the front desk staff is helpful.
Review 77:The lobby is dated and needs a makeover. No reason not to stay here.
Review 78:The hotel is located right across the street from the train station. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with many choices.
Review 79:The staff were all helpful (planning day trips, arranging for pick ups, making suggestions for day trips). The rooms were very clean, and the breakfast was just right. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 80:Breakfast wasn't great- didn't have much to offer. Would have appreciated some eggs or sausages
Review 81:Located right opp station. Close to ferry also.
Review 82:This hotel opposite train station is very good. Large light room with good sized bathroom & balcony. Comfortable bed & quiet. Ceiling fan a bonus. Breakfast although a small range is good including cereal, fruit, yoghurt, breads & pastries. Staff helpful
Review 83:The windows didn't keep all the noise outside. If facing the station the noise from there can be somewhat annoying. The hotel is a bit worn. Some facelift could be done. The decoration of the room was from the 1990s...
Review 84:The hotel is located basically opposite to the railway station and close to the main shopping area. The old town is not far away, either. You get there easily in 15-20 minutes by foot.
Review 85:I had booked a double room, single occupancy, for one night for 67,5euros. I expected a visitor when the phone in the room rang and it was the receptionist. After I insisted several times that he spoke in English, as I don't speak Italian and couldn't understand what he was saying, he told me that I could not receive visits. I went downstairs. I was puzzled to see my stunned visitor outside, on the street, the door of the hotel locked. I opened the door and asked the receptionist what the problem was, with my visitor already inside. He aggressively replied that "the hotel was closed" (sic) and that we could be in the lobby area but I could not take anybody to my room. I replied that I was paying for my room and everywhere in the world, when an adult guest invites another adult guest to their room, standard procedure is to ask for a document of the visitor, period. You don't lock out visitors on the street, and you do not deny guests the right to receive visitors in the room they are paying for. He said that's "not the case in Italy" (sic) and "not in this hotel" (sic) and that if I wanted to take somebody to my room I'd have to pay 94euros for double occupancy. I said he could do whatever he liked and went upstairs to my room with my visitor, leaving the receptionist mumbling in Italian. My visitor left some time later. The next morning at check out another receptionist handed me the bill, which mentioned the initial price of single occupancy, 67,5euros - which is only normal, since I slept alone in the room. Hadn't this been the case, I would have reported the hotel to the Italian tourism authorities. Totally unacceptable, childish, impolite and unprofessional, I can't believe such a situation actually happened to me in an European country in 2015.
Review 86:Yes, the location is excellent, right in front of the railway station.
Review 87:Facilities are basic. Bathroom was small and didn't have all the toiletries. But location and value for money were good.
Review 88:Right by tain staition and short walk from where the SITA buses from the Amalfi Coast drops you off. Nice to be next to the pedestrian road for even stroll.
Review 89:Great Hotel in a real Italian city, not tourist central, with interesting old section. Ferries and trains make Amalfi coast and Pompeii easy to get to or rent a car and head south. Hotel staff have good english. Across from train station 2 hours from Rome avoid Naples
Review 90:Had booked a standard room but extremely in ned of renovation. Carpets looked worn and grubby. Just had the feeling it was not as clan as could be but that could well be because of the very tired decor. Breakfast was very basic. The worst in all our 7 weeks of travel in Europe.
Review 91:I picked this location as it was very close to train and bus depot. We had an early morning bus departure across Italy and needed a place that was close walking distance. Manager at front desk when we checked in and out the nec morning was e trembly helpful and polite couldn't wishd for a nicer person.
Review 92:Just know you are getting basic bed, dresser, clean bathroom at a great price by the train station if you need a place to sleep and don't expect to spend time at the hotel.
Review 93:Proximity to train station and taxi station
Review 94:bathroom looks a bit dated. needs a renovation/makeover.
Review 95:room was very big and clean. Staff friendly. Breakfast was good. So close to the station and the shops in the Corso mall
Review 96:The desk staff were disinterested. They did not even meet our eyes when we spoke to them. They gave us incorrect information about laundry availability so in 3 days we never could get laundry done.
Review 97:Across the street from the train station, close to the ferry dock to Amalfi and Positano, easy walk to the Centro Storico, outstanding breakfast
Review 98:nothing
Review 99:This is a fine no frills hotel at the foot of the pedestrian zone. The rooms are spotless and the breakfast was a fine Italian traditional breakfast. If you are starting or finishing your trip to the Amalfi coast, you will not be disappointed with this hotel.
Review 100:Due to our travel Schedule the location to the train station could not have more perfect. There was a nice street right outside for eating and shopping.. perfect.
Review 101:Breakfast was good, but very average and it needs more of a variety of vegetables and for people like me who prefer a salty breakfast, there wasn't enough of a selection. However, I would still go back and only choose the Plaza because the food that they did serve was fresh and tasty!
Review 102:I wouldn't just recommend it; I would HIGHLY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMEND the Plaza hotel! The staff are absolutely incredible; from being polite, to helpful to very professional. The location was absolutely perfect. It is close to everything! The rooms are nice and the entire hotel is well-kept and very very clean!
Review 103:Good location close in town convienient to train, rental car, coast, marina, restaraunts, shopping and highways. Nice continental breakfast each morning.
Review 104:No complaints about the hotel. I prefer more our-of-the way locations.
Review 105:The location, near the ferry and Salerno train station, is very convenient for making connections between the Amalfi coast and Rome. The hotel is quite nice and offers good comfort and value for money. Because of the double glass windows, the rooms were surprisingly quiet.
Review 106:proximity to station staff were very helpful and friendly room was spacious easy to block out station noise with shutters and double doors to balcony air-conditioning and a fan CNN on the TV elevator central to restaurants, shops
Review 107:The staff were so friendly, extremely helpful. It is a family run business and the owner really managed to make my stay as wonderful as possible suggesting places to visit and giving me brochures to all the different sites to visit. Definitely recommend this hotel, very central and really across from both the bus stop and train station hardly a one minute walk, and not noisy.
Review 108:We had a little trouble finding restaurants for the evening meal. We prefer not to have to walk so far after dark, in a city we don't know.
Review 109:We liked the proximity to the station which is just across the piazza, the view of the mountains from our little balcony and the fact that the main street for the evening passagiata was right at our door. The breakfasts were better than average for this level of hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable, with frig, desk, two chairs and the WiFi worked.
Review 110:I love this place. Stayed 3 years ago and came back again for 4 nights. Excellent location near train station but quiet at night. Close to ferrys to amalfi and positano. SITA bus to vietri sul mare and all towns to Amalfi about 1 minute walk from door. Very safe area. Breakfast great variety and delicious and fresh. Best place in Salerno. Value for money. Rooms large and clean. Fabulous showers! Everything perfect. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 111:The lift. It is old and slow.
Review 112:The location is excellent. The train station and bus station are outside the door across the piazza. A 5 minute walk from the ferries to the Amalfi Coast. The city's Main Street and pedestrian mall starts at the hotel and goes right down to the restaurant area.
Review 113:It has semitransparent curtains and metal blinds. I was not able to close the blinds, so I got a lot of light in my room while sleeping. The air-conditioner was of poor quality. I could not find a setting that would make it just enough cold without a lot of noise. Due to those two reasons, my quality of sleep was really poor. They had wifi, but my room almost lacked coverage. Thus, while I had been planning to work while staying there, it was actually impossible. I also had an early train to Rome (6:12am), and it was not very nice that they did not have an early breakfast option.
Review 114:For me the location was perfect (it is just 1 minute from the railway station). Also it was relatively cheap (though I did not investigate the prices of competitors).
Review 115:Relatively loud due to location next to the station, but not too problematic While the place was clean and well kept, the bathroom was starting to show its age
Review 116:Great location right in the city centre and close to the harbour Good breakfast Internet / Wifi worked Staff was friendly and spoke English Beds were good AC worked well
Review 117:Pretty long walk to the good restaurants in the old town. This was perhaps more of an issue for us because we would come back from our day trips tired and hungry. Staff, while not rude, were not overly friendly.
Review 118:We used Salerno as a base for day trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Paestum. Spent 6 nights. Location was perfect for our needs because was so close to train station. Wifi was decent. Thought breakfast buffet was great! Croissants, cereal, yogurt, cheese and fruit. No problem with noise - and my wife is very sensitive to this.
Review 119:A little noisy but to be expected where it is.
Review 120:Needed a last minute stop over in Salerno, and La Plaza fitted the bill. In an excellent location just beside the station. A good hotel for the price.
Review 121:Only plastic cups in room & at breakfast Bed hard as a rock Reception staff surly, apart from friendly young man on last day Not a lot of information for tourists No tea & coffee making facility in room
Review 122:Location was great Good breakfast Clean Good sized room Good water pressure in shower
Review 123:Rooms are very "tired"
Review 124:Excellent location, Across the road - literally from the train station. Two hundred metres from the ferry terminal One hundred metres from old town centre shops and some excellent restaurants Surprisingly quite
Review 125:Staff were very helpful and the hotel was a perfect location for visiting Salerno itself [which was not touristy] and other places on the Amalfi coast. The hotel had a balcony with a fantastic view.
