Reviews for La Contrada dei Monti

Review 1:There is no 24hrs reception, even though they provide one key per room to open the front door of the hotel. There is no free parking. The room was very small and cold. The reception didn't accept to do the check-in an hour earlier, even though I'm sure that with a little organization it would have been perfectly fine for them.

Review 2:The best thing was definitely the location. Very central. Staff at reception was friendly.

Review 3:No wifi, only 1 star standard, no on site staff during business hours, too expensive for facilities, furnishings very dated, bedding, towels old and poor quality, with cleanliness not up to standard.

Review 4:Location & breakfast.

Review 5:No balcony or view, average breakfast. No 24 hour desk.

Review 6:Great location, friendly greeting even though we arrived at 19:55! Stunning interior with many period features.

Review 7:It is not easy to reach the hotel by car, since the center of Orta is forbidden to private traffic, which is excellent for a pleasant walk, of course, but makes things more complex mainly because the indication we found were not so clear. I finally called the hotel on the phone and received precise and clear instruction on how to reach the place, where to park etc.

Review 8:The hotel is located in a typical ancient mansion in Orta, properly restructured to provide modern confort. It is in the very center of town, but in a very quiet side road out of the noise. The rooms are well furnished and confortable.

Review 9:Since this hotel is a brancht of the Leon D’Or, the desk was not always staffed. We could not pay our bill at the larger hotel and spent some time running back and forth between the two hotels to find staff.

Review 10:This hotel is beautifully furnished with extremely solid furniture and doors and plumbing with side tables and lights. The common room had a wonderful old stone fireplace and nice furnishings.s Our twin room was so small we had to pass each other in turns. The breakfast is served in its bigger sister hotel, the Leon D’Or, on the waterfront, about 3 blocks away. We also got a 10% discount there for one of the best and most elegant dinners of our 3-week trip to northern Italy.

Review 11:Check out times were somewhat inflexible and it was not possible to leave the bags in the hotel while waiting for taxi. However, bags could be left att nearby restaurant.

Review 12:Very close to the piazza, comfortable beds and good breakfast. The rooms spacious with adjoining bathrooms. The interior decoration was beautiful and felt authentic italian. We had a great stay and would recommend it!

Review 13:I think they should have internet. The staff for breakfast was not friendly. The wall to the next room was so thin, that one could hear all words from your neighbor.

Review 14:The design and location.

Review 15:When I went to make reservations at their other Hotel/Restaurant I was asked about sitting outside so I asked what the weather might be like that night. I was told that's not my job. A polite I don't know would have been fine. In general begrudging helpfulness. The room had no Wifi, plastic cups that were not replaced every day and the TV was tiny and part of the programs didn't work.

Review 16:The bed was nice and Ellenora was friendly and tried to be helpfull

Review 17:Stuff not always friendly, pushing s lot to leave exactly in time, not all items in the room are complete for two persons, very cold and heating was not turned on yet

Review 18:Good location, charming hotel, good breakfast

Review 19:Our 'spa' in our Junior Suite was out of order. The staff was ineffectual, the television did not function (not really crucial/however, for the price of the room should have been working.) The parking situation could have been explained much more thoroughly, prior to arrival.

Review 20:The location was great, the breakfast was quite good and the bed was comfortable.

Review 21:Mattress poor, bathroom extremely small. Breakfast fruit was prepared too far in advance and thus did not look appetizing. Access to lift restricted.

Review 22:Central, quiet, location . Helpful staff.

Review 23:Key situation was awkward for leaving . Couldn't lock the door since we needed to leave it in the lobby. No AC but it was cool when we were there so no problem for us.

Review 24:Charming hotel. Breakfast was great.

Review 25:No air conditioning in the rooms (can be quite hot in July). Reception not always attended - we arrived at 1.15pm at the hotel and waited 1.5 hour outside as the doors were shut and no one was there, before realizing we had to go to another hotel (Leon d'Oro) for check-in. This should be clearly signposted on the front door.

Review 26:Location, breakfast, rooms nicely decorated

Review 27:ill lit room ...... far too dark rooms are % overpriced This is a second hotel of well known "Lion d'Oro" hotel staff not well looked after by management

Review 28:bathroom

Review 29:1) Staff very rude 2) no wifi 3) uncomfortable bed We are teavaling with 3 couples, it was super disappointed chose for all of us.

Review 30:Only location

Review 31:Wifi is lacking in the entire hotel

Review 32:Very clean, nicely furnished, delicious breakfast

Review 33:Pretty noisy, walls are thin. Just bring earplugs.

Review 34:Perfect spot, close to central village.

Review 35:No wifi

Review 36:Nice rooms, friendly staff, awesome breakfast!

Review 37:Excellent location in the centre of Orta. No access by car have to carry cases quite a distance

Review 38:Nothing.

Review 39:Service of the receptionist Julia and the breakfasts.

Review 40:Access to the reception was difficult as the front door was often locked and reception unmanned. The watch point is take the key that was provided with you at all times even during the day ! There was no free Wifi

Review 41:The location of the hotel just a few minutes walk from the harbour area was ideal. The room was large and had excellent decoration. An ironing board and iron was made available on request. The buffet breakfast was extremely good and varied

Review 42:Rooms very dark. Television from the 70's. Sheets damp. Shower tiny. Stayed at the Hotel Pallanza on Lago Maggiore night before with lake view for €30 less.

Review 43:Good location if without a view. Quiet

Review 44:Expensive price compared to room size.

Review 45:Very nice rooms, excellent breakfast (for Italian standards), very friendly staff, and located closely to the beautiful lake.

Review 46:It was impossible to park outside the hotel to unload / load baggage. This had to be manhandled from / to a narrow road 60 metres above the hotel down a steep cobbled alley. The hotel has no porter to help with this task, nor has it any staff on duty at all after 9pm. The room was drab and dismal. Breakfast was a sad and meagre offering, served in a small rough, pit of a courtyard, mistakenly described as a garden and surrounded on four sides by tall buildings. There is no bar; the best you can do is a fizzy drink from a corridor vending machine! The tap water was labelled as undrinkable, but no bottled water was provided. Parking fees in the municipal car park were €33-00 for the night. Yes, €33-00, and this has to be added to the already grossly inflated room rate making this joke hotel especially bad value for money. Beware - you have to insert the room key fob into a wall-mounted device to power the lighting circuit. This is not particularly unusual, but when you remove the fob it also cuts the power to the power sockets in the walls, which is unusual and a potential trap. There is no Wifi.

Review 47:Being within a charming small lakeside town. Dog friendly. Leaving the hotel.

Review 48:No Wifi Staff was not very helpfull when it came to changing rooms(our was situated on the ground floor and very nosy). Although thehotel was not fully booked the staff made up excuses so that we couldnot move rooms.

Review 49:The breakfast was ok and the lady who makes the breakfast wasvery friendly.

Review 50:There was no Wi-Fi available in the hotel, which nowadays one canreasonably expect from a three star hotel in Italy. To access theinternet you had to pay for a connection at their sister hotel a fiveminute walk away. The room we had was small I.E. just sufficient spaceto walk around the bed but it did have a balcony overlooking the courtyard which offered some additional space.

Review 51:Friendly and helpful receptionist. The room and bathroom were spotlessclean. Good location.

Review 52:Perfect location, very nice and helpful person at the reception, lovely terrasse for breakfast... Very nice place to stay in Orta!

Review 53:location excellent

Review 54:Heating not working, room freezing,

Review 55:Beautiful building, good breakfast wonderful reception staff
