Reviews for Relais & Chateaux Villa Crespi
Review 1:Overpriced dinner Chef didn't come out even after meat was so tough I couldn't cut it with a knife Great breakfast!
Review 2:Great location and room
Review 3:Everything was perfect. A really professionally run hotel and one that other hotels should try emulate. Very accomodating for us and our two puppies. Well done!!
Review 4:Our room was arranged with a single bed instead of a sofà. We had to ask twice to get a bottle opener in the room
Review 5:Dinner in the restaurant was amazing. Beautiful villa and staff very kind
Review 6:We stayed here during our wedding in September and I can't rate the staff, the service and the hotel highly enough. It's a beautiful property and made our wedding even more special. The suites are a fantastic size for bridal parties. We will be back!!
Review 7:1.Too close to a busy main road. 2.As there is no pool, the hotel says there is access to the lake and a pool from another hotel. We were not at the villa crespi for a pool holiday but it was hot and a quick dip was necessary. The other hotel was hideous and not somewhere one would feel safe to leave belongings. I would suggest finding somewhere else to swim.
Review 8:The food, building and staff
Review 9:Room was not properly checked before our visit. Corporate guests monopolising the communal areas - mobile phone calls and Skype conferences!!!
Review 10:The welcome by the staff - reception and dining. The Carpe Diem menu for dinner.
Review 11:food was good but lacked any 'wow' factor. Barely worth its two Michelin stars. The cuisine at the one star Pascia restaurant (recommended by Crespi and 20 minutes away) was more original and superbly presented.
Review 12:outstanding maitre d' and receptionist intimate family ambiance lovely elegant 'gallery' dining area all staff warm and helpful
Review 13:Our room - recommend you only book if you can get an executive suite or up - we could not get anything but a standard room on the 3rd floor - the configuration was odd with the bed being on a "stage" 2 steps up (which can prove interesting for bathroom visits at night. There was a pole covered in fabric to disguise it - (how odd!) near the TV and the cupboard provided is tiny for longer than a 2 night stay. Bathroom is also strange - no shower - a tiny bath which was difficult to get in and out of. The room was really warm and the aircon is innefectual. Breakfast is a limited affair - strange for a highly rated restaurant - supply of fresh fruit very limited and not replenished and choice of other things also limited - service though at breakfast was good
Review 14:Location is superb - close enough to stroll to the town in 15 mins - hotel has fabulous views of the lake The building itself is beautiful - unique architecture Staff are all without hesitation excellent - helpful, and friendly - always on hand - great restaurant recommendations Orta is a beautiful place -
Review 15:Our waiter at dinner!! This was meant to be the highlight of our 6 day trip around the area ( but wasn't) He was unbelievably beyond rude and aggressive. Plates were whisked past directly infront of our noses and taken away before others at the table had finished eating each course. For a 2* Michelin dining room, this is simply unacceptable. You almost waited for the next icy stare, or act of complete rudeness: he was quite the most arrogant waiter I have ever experienced in a fine dining situation. He was slightly better with the chaps than the ladies, who he treated with utter disdain.I must qualify this by saying the maitre D who talked to us as we left ( but clearly must have been completely unaware of this working mainly in the main dining room area as he was) was very personable and very friendly. We didn't make a fuss at the time as to do so would have further spoilt our evening. He should have been unobtrusive, yet he became the object of astonishment as the evening progressed. We are a professional, friendly, pleasant and extensively travelled group; so this was quite unbelievable behaviour. I was disappointed and surprised that despite being a dining party of 13 with 7 rooms booked, we didn't merit the chef/owner coming to introduce himself to the dining table as a whole, as we experienced everywhere else we stayed.Although, well presented and unusual, the food wasn't the best, the most tasty, or most enjoyable of our Piedmonte trip yet it was by far ( as we had expected and look forward to) the most highly rated restaurant and most expensive.Disappointing1The Breakfast waiting staff too have a personality bypass and are inordinately desultory, slow and inattentive. Any cooked breakfasts took an age to appear. This waiting staff issue needs sorting as it spoils an otherwise impressive place.
Review 16:Really excellent and friendly reception staff who are very welcoming. Elenora is helpful, efficient and truly delightful and we had a super chap who took us up into the tower to see the views from the top. Lovely. Very interesting if variable rooms. There is definitely an warm, eccentric feel to the hotel. It is in a great location for visiting Lake Orta, which we enjoyed, we had lovely lake views. There is a good varied breakfast. Really lovely pre dinner hors d'oeuvres with drinks.
Review 17:Maybe air con could be quieter but that is being really picky about an amazing place - if you only go once - go. Oh and perhaps more atmospheric music at dinner, what there was seemed outbof keeping.
Review 18:The food was out of this world and the suggested accomPnying wines probably best ever had. Staff really professional really want you to have top notch experience - they succeed - building is stunning and really interesting replica of house in Baghdad - location so close to the village of orta. Rooms all really interesting.
Review 19:The rooms were very warm, the airconditioning were not effective at all, the staff were not responsive to requests and did not even exercise initiatives or comon sense to make our stay better. e.g the 3 pax "suite" was much smaller than another larger suite assigned to 2 pax in our party. The 2 Michelin Star restaurant's food was good, except for the main course which was average....but the serving staff were unfriendly and unresponsive.
Review 20:The old charming building, the history and the location.
Review 21:Gorgeous and unique villa on beautiful lake orta. Amazing restaurant for dinner and great included breakfast. Seam in pool and lake at their sister hotel. Staff was very welcoming and helpful!
Review 22:Friendly staff , good service
Review 23:A bit close to a busy road
Review 24:The staff were very flexible and friendly in accommodating our plants!
Review 25:The very poor beds. The lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms Massively pretentious and over rated food
Review 26:The area, the hotel setting
Review 27:Didn't feel relaxed at hotel. Room very dark. Aircon not great and wifi intermittent. Had nice balcony but overlooked main road so was noisy at times. Generally a disappointing and very expensive experience.
Review 28:Very unusual and interesting hotel. 15 mins nice walk to main piazza. San Guilio is an absolutely stunning place and will definitely return but would choose one of the hotels near the main piazza.
Review 29:There were some issues with the plumbing in the bedroom we were allocated and the bath water was dark brown. The maintenance guy was fantastic and although didn't completely sort the problem, he did move us to another room. I was very impressed with him, however was a little disappointed that the duty manager did not even come up and see what the problem was and apologise to us. An apology was eventually given, but not until the following day which was rather late in my opinion.
Review 30:A fantastic welcome to the hotel. The staff were very accommodating and the taster menu in the restaurant was delicious, although far too much food was included.
Review 31:no business center, which I found odd. In order to use a computer, I had to displace the person at reception. Everyone very polite of course, but it was awkward. Staff, except for the owner, the wife of the chef, were intransigent about the heat and a/c situation. She, the signora, finally straightened it out after I made a fuss.
Review 32:The design of the hotel was uniquely luxurious. The staff was solicitous. Location was a couple of minutes from Orta San Giulio. The grounds were elegant; lake views etc. Parking right there; breakfast was lovely.
Review 33:The service was wonderful in that the staff were so very attentive and thoughtful but not invasive. The Royal Sweet was truly royal and luxurious especially the bathroom. However ours was a special offer booking and we were upgraded!
Review 34:Everything was charming and romantic! (moreover, we booked a special offer on Booking)
Review 35:Marvellous Moorish style villa, with charming and romantic rooms, great two Michelin stars restaurant, in a good position, overseeing Orta Lake. Professional and helpful staff. We really appreciated, in particular, two extra benefits of our room: the whirlpool bath and the large terrace, overlooking the lake.
Review 36:It's a small thing, but at a place like this, you would expect utter perfecion: the toilet tablet was unstable...
Review 37:Everything! The room was spacious and sumptuously decorated, and with Sky! The bed was king size and extremely comfortable. Pity it rained the whole time, we didn't get to have a proper look at the park. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was marvellous, though very expensive.
Review 38:That we only had one day and night there this time. We will be back...
Review 39:absolutely everything at Villa Crespi was superb. The breakfast was an extraordinary experiance!
Review 40:Dining was a true experience. Both dinners were exquisite and inventive. The foie gras both nights was an absolute delight with the perfectflavor and texture. The mushroom (porcini) menu enhanced the freshearthy flavors. The service was exceptional. The setting was marvelous. There can be no doubt that a third star is in the offing. As for theChateau, it was a wonder and unlike any other architecture in all ofItaly. The staff was friendly and attentive but never intrusive.
Review 41:There is nothing 'not to like' except that the location is a bit too near the road, but this is a minor point.
Review 42:Simply a superb place to stay for a really special occasion. The rooms are very unusual and very comfortable. The restaurant is just magnificent - from the food to the service - it is culinary entertaining at its very best
Review 43:Our junior suite was not overlooking a garden but the roundabout and road instead. The room was too dark . However we were pleased to be offered alternative ( upgraded) rooms on 2 of our 3 nights at the hotel.
Review 44:the staff were extremely courteous
Review 45:The weather was not perfect but you can't have everything!
Review 46:The wonderfully warm welcome and friendly service which was also most professional. The restaurant experience, it was a special occasion, was superb and the staff made it even more so, bringing us a specially prepared dessert with candle to help us celebrate. Nothing was too much trouble, it was simply a never to be forgotten moment which I will never stop recounting to friends. Highly recommended for a romantic occasion, honeymoon or anniversary or just for the top quality that is apparent throughout the hotel and restaurant.
Review 47:Everything was fantastic!!!Great restaurant, professional staff. We will be back soon!!
Review 48:unfortunately our short stay.
Review 49:the hotel and the room were great. the location is superb. the atmosphere is perfect and matches the old village.
Review 50:Bar wasn't very inviting; room wasn't very cosy in late October, although probably cool in summer.
Review 51:Comfortable bed.
Review 52:Cleaning of the room was done late
Review 53:Beautiful building personal approach lovely village excellent food
Review 54:The shower was not perfectly clean
