Reviews for Hotel San Rocco
Review 1:Low season, and overpriced for what it is. Looks better in the photos. Average breakfast. Great outdoor area, but not open in the winter, which is a shame. No room service after the restaurant is closed.
Review 2:The receptionist was absolutely lovely and helpful, who upgraded us to a room with a gorgeous view to the lake Orta. Nice balcony, probably better during the summer.
Review 3:Price a bit higher for low season stay.
Review 4:Great hotel, great location. This is really a gem. Nice rooms, great venue, nothing was missing. Parking in the hotel area, to stay outside on the terrace is wonderful. Will come again.
Review 5:At 275 euro per night this was probabaly the most overpriced room we have ever been in. There was nowhere to put your suitcase except on the desk, no drawers or shelves to unpack, the hanging space was at 2.3m high and minimal and nowhere to sit except on the balcony, not ideal in the evening in October. On arrival the bedside lights did not function, the toilet seat was loose and the wifi in the room was only accessible if you were in a corner by the door. These were reported to reception but only the lights were fixed. The corridor on arrival was filled with laundry, ladder and a crate of bottles. The staff were in general offhand and there was no heating in the public areas. We will not be returning.
Review 6:The lakeside location was fantastic and close to the town centre. reception staff very friendly.
Review 7:Restaurant's not good enough for the money. Hotel showing signs of wear and tear. Corporate feel and rather cold atmosphere especially in late September.
Review 8:Location right on lake, reception on arrival, comfortable bed.
Review 9:Wardrobe space. Breakfast was ok but no choice of eggs
Review 10:The views were stunning. The rooms were modern if a little on the smallsize but then perhaps I'm comparing them to Asia Hotels.
Review 11:Terrible wifi Paid for a lake view, which was from from a tiny window. If you are paying extra for the lake view then request a balcony. My teenage children had a garden view which was a dark view of over grown weeds
Review 12:Location was great, nice seating area around the lake, with amazing views. Friendly staff at the hotel
Review 13:- Rude bar staff - they did not know how to make the correct cocktails from your menu (two times in a row) and when pulled up on this they made us (and our friends) feel like an inconvenience to them. - Rooms were constantly cold - brown concrete walls did not help. Felt more like a prison than a hotel room. - Blood stain on the shower curtain
Review 14:Location
Review 15:We would have liked the facility to make tea or coffee in the room.
Review 16:We loved the location and the view from our bedroom window was superb. Also plenty places to relax.
Review 17:Air con was a bit hit and miss, breakfast not great compared to similar priced hotels, beds not as comfortable as we'd hoped.
Review 18:Location and view. Great pool right on the lake, and great cocktail waiter.
Review 19:free wifi did not work on iphone or ipad- generally very bad connection on laptop as well. wellness area was closed without announcement.
Review 20:great access directly to the lake, by foot in centre in 5 min. super nice bar with terrace directly at the lake, friendly staff. great view.
Review 21:I tried very hard - but had a complete lack of success in connecting with WiFi - even though I did everything right - perhaps our iPad was not powerful enough
Review 22:Food
Review 23:There was nothing to do in the hotel when the weather was bad and without wifi it was very frustrating Some staff were very helpful but others almost rude our room was very small and we had no view at all
Review 24:The dining on the terrace was fantastic
Review 25:The staff were a little unfriendly and service was so slow in the bar and restaurant. We changed rooms as our original room was tiny (you could only just walk round the bed) and they didn't send anyone to help us. The rooms are very dark and dim. The internet kept dipping in and out. A day or two here would be enough as there isn't much to do unless you are just sitting in the sun.
Review 26:The location was good. It was on the lake side and amongst the old houses of the town. It was only a short walk away to the shops and restaurants
Review 27:Wifi was very hit and miss and the moscitos were a nightmare in the evenings (Take Spray!!!)
Review 28:Fantastic location right by the lake with great views. Bathroom with hot tub was amazing!
Review 29:Pool and common areas are very crowded and loud, rooms were tiny and staff was indifferent to rude. Weddings are very common here because of the beautiful location but led to a degradation of other guest's experience due to loud music and lots of areas closed off.
Review 30:Lake front property offered great views.
Review 31:The weather was very hot and the air conditioning in our room did not work. Our first night was hot and uncomfortable and the handy man was unable to fix the air conditioning. We moved rooms next day which was better. Also the bread in the restaurant was dry from being left out too long.
Review 32:The hotel is beautifully situated by Lake Orta. It was easy to swim in the Lake from the hotel garden, a lovely experience.
Review 33:My wife and I expected a traditional Italian style hotel, and the pictures of the outside suggested this would be the case, However on arrival it became clear that any tradition had be abandoned in favour of some awful modern / contemporary design made even worse by the total use of the colour brown, on the walls, floors, ceilings and furniture. This included our room, the single somewhat undersized window did little to add any light into an already very dark and depressing atmosphere. I appreciate that design is based on personal taste and therefore some guests perhaps may like it. The hotel bar staff were good, However the reception was poor, we requested three times for our room temperature to be reduced but to no avail, consequently we had to endure a 28 degree heat day and night. The free WIFI was absolutely woeful either we could not connect or if we could the speed was lamentably slow…to the point of useless. The Breakfast room was cramped and the coffee I assume could only have been from the previous day, it tasted that bad!! In summary if you are after a traditional hotel don’t choose this one and for what you get it is way overpriced.
Review 34:The Lake
Review 35:The air conditioning in our room didn't work. There was no hot water for the shower. It took an hour for a taxi we asked them to get us to arrive.
Review 36:Beautiful location.
Review 37:Rooms with the garden views are very small. Uncomfortable showers. check-out time 10am is a bit strange for a 4* hotel.
Review 38:Good location. friendly staff.
Review 39:The rooms aren't what you would expect for the price. Eg- they are small, can't control the temperature, wifi wasn't reliable. We had a garden view room. Also, the main reception staff member wasn't the most welcoming.
Review 40:The hotel is located in an amazing spot. Breakfast is great, rooms are good (not great for price). Pool, outdoor area is great for relaxing.
Review 41:1. Hotel is heavily booked for wedding receptions. Parties are held in areas frequented by guests or within hearing distance of other guests. Music can be played through to midnight and will be heard by guests in lakefront view rooms. We stayed 3 nights, two nights were impacted by wedding reception music. Great if you love hearing the same repertoire of romantic tunes but maddening if you're trying to get to sleep or getting over a relationship.
Review 42:1. Lakefront location with superb views. 2. Aperitivo hour(s) on the terrace and lakefront deck. 3. Helpful and friendly staff. 4. Comfortable room and bed. 5. The "Old Europe" ambience.
Review 43:No bad experience, but the swimming pool is old fashioned, unattractive and inconvenient to get into for a hotel of that standard.
Review 44:position on the lake and very attractive walk into town.
Review 45:I reserved view lake when I arrived they said its not shown in booking paper then I show them my paper they give view lake in old building with bad bed
Review 46:-impossible to regulate the air conditioned ! -it was necessary to ask for an additional mobile heater ! -the hassle for parking (i broke one external retro-visor!)
Review 47:-breakfast & staff at breakfast -the general environment -staff at the reception trying to help
Review 48:The hotel is located right on the Lake, with decking on the water. The Lake views are beautiful whilst relaxing, enjoying a drink, dining,or swimming in the lakeside pool. The breakfast is fabulous in room looking over the lake.Rooms serviced daily, friendly, helpful staff in Reception, day spa upstairs. We took a room without Lake view but it had view over the garden, trees, still very pleasant.whilst our room was small, it was still great with good bathroom.I think the Lake View rooms are bigger. Its a 5 minute stroll along old paving into the gorgeous town with bars & restaurants tucked away in little lanes, & on the Lake. So relaxing, beautiful setting, beautiful hotel, perfect place to slow down for a while. Staff could cope with our limited Italian, & reverting to English.
Review 49:We booked and paid extra for a lakeside view we were given room no. 232 and could only see a patch of water through the trees and shrubs. We complained and were give an attic room 304 very small and could see the lake if we went out on the balcony not really a lakeside view.
Review 50:The room was nice but quite small and the shower was tiny and did not drain well. These are very minor issues.
Review 51:It is a perfect location on the water, a five minute walk from the center of town. The rooms are nice and the staff very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the fact that many Italians stayed at this hotel and the view was spectacular.
Review 52:Wifi poor in some areas of the hotel. One night when the terrace was extremely busy the service was slow.
Review 53:Beautiful location, building and terrace/jetty. Warm staff. Both coffee and champagne ordered at the bar arrived with a delicious complimentary plate of nibbles. We fell in love with this hotel as well as Lake Orta. Highly recommend.
Review 54:We were given a room by the male receptionist, which was not what we had requested, but it was quickly sorted by one of the female receptionists. However the air conditioning didn't work, so we had to change rooms again (after the male receptionist suggested that there were no alternative rooms, but we insisted). Other niggles: no food available during the afternoon; bar staff unaware about food times; really poor coffee at breakfast; general lack of welcome from many of the staff. We ate out both nights, mainly because we were not allowed to eat out on the terrace.
Review 55:Fantastic situation right by the lake. Easy parking on site. Lovely lakeside swimming pool.
Review 56:we had a family wedding at the san rocco and stayed for 4 nights in early June. The bedrooms were very hot at night and we were told that there was no air conditioning available which made the nights very uncomfortable. we talked to reception staff on several occasions but did not get satisfaction, It was an expensive hotel to stay in ...2000 euro for 4 nights so I would have expected A/C.
Review 57:Wonderful setting, terrace fabulous.
Review 58:- Expensive
Review 59:- Great Location (on the lake) - Free Wi Fi
Review 60:Wrong room type allocated Swimming pool area not properly maintained or staffed despite good weather
Review 61:The lake view room was REALLY small.
Review 62:Very nice classic hotel with great staff and restaurant.
Review 63:Great location on Lake. Slightly overpriced.
Review 64:Really lovely staff, very accommodating and such a beautiful location. Highly recommended
Review 65:Expensive.
Review 66:Location, free wifi
Review 67:some wear and tear issues with the hotel and spa was closed for renovation.
Review 68:Location and bar view to lake
Review 69:Terrible wi-fi Spa being renovated, no discount
Review 70:Very bad wifi connection. Parking costs 9€/day which is communicated nowhere.
Review 71:Best location in St. Gulio! Nice pool, direct access to lake.
Review 72:Stunning Lakeside location!
Review 73:Bland room. Not the cleanest. Few facilities - no iron available! Service poor. Overpriced.
Review 74:Location convenient.
Review 75:Wifi poor.
Review 76:Pool area. Fab to relax.
Review 77:Bed a little too firm and poor wi-fi
Review 78:A lovely room and bathroom and lovely throughout the facility
Review 79:Interesting place to stay with antique furniture. Comfortable.
Review 80:- location - garden - view on the lake
Review 81:Chaotic service, very loud disco under our room despite paying a lot of money for the room until midnight.
Review 82:Location and views
Review 83:The prices in the restaurant and bar were a bit high. The pool wasn't open.
Review 84:Beautiful location. Nice building
Review 85:The restaurant was closed in the evening. This is something they could have told us during the check-in.
Review 86:Good location
Review 87:Bathroom a little small, including shower
Review 88:Great Location (directly on the lake). If possible, select the lake view. Good Selection for Breakfast
Review 89:Location , rich breakfast , wi - fy , good staff
Review 90:Hot and humid with no HVAC adjustment possible (local or national statutes re: energy use?).
Review 91:Away from the crowds = quiet and relaxing.
Review 92:Nothing
Review 93:Location, staff and food
Review 94:Wifi terrible
Review 95:Location view
Review 96:Room & facilities - balcony with great view Location Beautiful lake
Review 97:Amazing location great for swimming in the lake
Review 98:very poor wifi reception
Review 99:amazing view and access on lake Orta contemporary touches to old villa the gourmet food charming service beautiful pool
Review 100:location
Review 101:Very expensive. Poor wifi.
Review 102:Staff helped us extremely well if we needed anything. Very professional. Food amazing & service.
Review 103:charming design, good breakfast, well located.
Review 104:Very poor wifi
Review 105:Whilst the balcony and view from our room was excellent, the room itself was very small.
Review 106:Excellent location, helpful staff, very good restaurant, and good parking.
Review 107:The hotel is under the 4-stars level and they aren't any correlation between price and comfort it offers: the rooms is very small, not exactly clean, the air conditioning was not working in the whole hotel, the bathroom seems to come directly form the 1970s (a plastic tent instead than a box for the shower, the tap covered in incrustations, no mixer...), breakfast is VERY far from the 4-stars standard, the personnel is willing and kind, but as a matter of fact, they didn't pay any attention to your requests. I suppose that the high evaluation they gained here in Booking comes more from the the place where Hotel San Rocco is than from the actual value of the structure itself. I you are willing to pay the price required by Hotel San Rocco you deserve better, if you are content with the level of service Hotel San Rocco could offer you, yuo could find the same (or more) for less in Orta San Giulio.
Review 108:The position of the Hotel is astonishing, but they have to thank Mother Nature, not the way they manage the Hotel.
Review 109:Even though the hotel was almost empty, we got initially a stinky room with a view on a wall of another building and with a noisy air conditioning. On arrival we were asked to leave the ID cards on the reception desk but finally they did not return them to us, so we had to take a trip of 4 hours to get the documents back. Very poor service!!
Review 110:Breakfast is not what I would expect. If you like a cold breakfast. Fruit. And so on then fine. you can pay for more choice. Also coffee Was warm not hot had to ask for it to be changed and to be hot on both mornings we were there
Review 111:Lake view rooms are the ones to go for. Loverly View and nice breeze coming off the lake. Also overlooks the pool.
Review 112:Wifi was almost non-existent even though it was advertised as available throughout the hotel
Review 113:Enchanting views of Lake Orta and Isola Orta San Giulio from the hotel!
Review 114:As I used to say you can estimate the quality of a hotel from the way you are trated at check out. And obviouslw this one disappointed me. I had to wait 15 minutes at checkout while all the personel there was busy with a german which wanted to count every euro of his bill. When it was finally my turn, no apologies from the personel, they just showed me the bill saying "check" and then "enter pin" without any "please" which normally are the kind of relationship and mark of respect you expect as a guest of a 4 stars hotel.
Review 115:The situation of the hotel, the luxury of the restaurant, breakfast tasty
Review 116:Breakfast room was full, two staff not adequate, breakfast buffet wasn't replenished enough even though 40 minutes to go before finished. (eg no cereal bowls, glasses for juice) Not enough sunbeds.
Review 117:Location was excellent, room very good and comfortable. Stayed two nights, wished we had three or four! Stayed at all Lakes and this is favourite!
Review 118:poor service by the pool Pool attendants uninterested Reception staff on arrival good on departure very poor breakfast poor No fresh orange juice Poor coffee
Review 119:good location
Review 120:The only comment is in respect of the removal of the plants providing privacy between adjacent private balconies. these are shown on the pictures but are not in position any more, so it is difficult for two couples to enjoy their balcony space privately at the same time
Review 121:Everything was almost as we had experienced on previous occasions we stayed.
Review 122:Paying an additional fee for parking, hotel charged extra to increase occupancy, but did not provide us with a larger room. Room found unclean with previous occupants mascara and trash on bathroom floor.
Review 123:Location, breakfast service
Review 124:This property is an excellent location right on the lake with good food and friendly service. The rooms are very nice and the whole property is newly renovated. Our room included breakfast. Very international clientele. Great restaurants nearby. Wonderful (challenging) bike ride up to Mottarone!
Review 125:No major issues.
Review 126:Great location - on the water and a 5 minute walk to the center of town. Other reviews have referred to the brown color scheme in some rooms, which makes them feel dark. We agreed that was the case, but it wasn't a big deal since we were out of the room most of the time, and the room itself, including the bath, was large and comfortable. Parking o-site is an advantage for those who come by car. The biggest plus is the lakeside location and grounds. If you want to spend some leisurely time relaxing by the lake, this is the best option in the area.
Review 127:Rooms small Poor WiFi A bit tired Flow of hotel odd, for example need to go up/down stairs to get to breakfast area
Review 128:Excellent location Great pool
Review 129:room - good but a bit narrow breakfast - ok could be better price - very expensive . it must have doubled in price in 6 years
Review 130:great location,food and drink
Review 131:No facilities to make tea or coffee in the room. Difficult to find our way around the hotel because of a lack of direction signs. Would have preferred a separate shower, not one over the bath.
Review 132:Peaceful, wonderful views.
