Reviews for Piccolo Hotel Olina

Review 1:The reception (shared with "Piccolo Hotel Olina" and probably a couple of other hotels/B&B) is in another building at about 100-200 meters from the Hotel and by the time we arrived (19:30 on a Sunday) it was closed. Instead we found a message on its windows telling us (and everyone else passing by) our room number, the PIN to enter the main building and fact that the key was inside the room - a little weird of a method considering they have my email address and mobile number. The hotel and the room seem to be unfinished or at least they need to be better maintained. Poor lighting. The shower locate in the room (not in the bathroom) is large and nice to see but its usability is far to be good. One clear glass (yes, crystal clear, so you shouldn't be shy) on one side only leaves two sides open so that you are splashing water everywhere. There's no shelf/hook or any other place to put your soap/shampoo/etc while showering. The main door has a circular window, which lights the room during the night - all night. No closet for clothes (only some hanging space) and no bedside tables/shelves. The attitude of the not so kind owner/manager, fortunately balanced by the kindness of the young receptionist at check-out.

Review 2:We booked a room at the "Piccolo Hotel Olina" but have been redirected to the "Hotel Aracoeli" so this review is about the Aracoeli. The location is pretty nice, in the main square of Orta San Giulio, just behind the "Broletto" building. Our room was on the third floor and the tiny balcony allows for nice views of the lake. The large room was equipped with a fridge and an electric kettle with complimentary tea/instant coffee. Breakfast was good but I wouldn't say fantastic as I read in many other reviews. The price we paid was excellent considering the location.

Review 3:Close to the lake, central to cafes etc and did the basics well in a character building and a lovely old town. Loved the breakfast at Aracoeli, owned by the same people and excellent dinners at their restaurant with guest discounts.

Review 4:It is a huge pity that the landlady is such a rude, cynical woman. She was particularly impolite when I phoned concerning a credit card query and I know for a fact that another guest checked out immediately due to her unacceptable behaviour. A person in her position should value her customers rather than treat them so disrespectfully. For this reason, I will avoid Picoolo Olina in the future.

Review 5:The room was clean, central and nicely furnished. Air-conditioning and heating were available and the staff was nice and helpful, especially the guy who served at the restaurant and waited at the breakfast table. The latter too was varied, plentiful and delicious.

Review 6:Although the room was clean and tidy, it did feel very tired a grubby. There were a lot of marks on the walls, bedside lamp had lost its shade and was just a bulb! The sheet were clean but felt years old. The bathroom fan made a disturbingly loud sound

Review 7:The staff were great and very helpful, location was prefect, just a minute from the main square and the breakfast was amazing

Review 8:Difficult to locate reception. We didn't know that we needed to pre book a taxi from the train station.

Review 9:Orta is a beautiful village by the lake and the hotel was centrally located, breakfast was good.

Review 10:Chaotic trying to deliver passengers and baggage to the hotel reception by private vehicle - or any kind of vehicle.

Review 11:The location - right in the heart of things.

Review 12:Our room was looking over a bar which had music at a considerable volume well past midnight. The reception area was not continuously staffed. We had to leave at 8am, 30 minutes before breakfast started and they were unable to even give us a cup of coffee nor information on open bars.

Review 13:Hotel location and our room had a partial lake view.

Review 14:There was a heatwave and the apartment had no air-con, a small fan had to suffice but again expected for a 2 star hotel.

Review 15:Location was excellent, staff friendly, the room was what you would expect for a 2 star hotel and the room was ok. I would of expected it to be a bit cheaper for what you got but otherwise completely fine.

Review 16:Our room was not fancy, but it was spacious. If we had wanted to sleep late, it may have been difficult since it was on the street level. No cars, but many people.

Review 17:The staff were all very friendly, and both helpful and prompt with answering questions before our arrival. The breakfast was great. It was at a restaurant with outdoor seating in a nearby piazza.

Review 18:I found the bed too soft and I prefer crisp white sheets.

Review 19:Orta San Giulio is a favourite destination of mine. Olina restaurant is always good, as is the breakfast.

Review 20:The breakfast is excellent/ five star. The rooms are located in different buildings around the small town with a central office; many of the rooms are attractively 'quaint'. The town and lake itself is superb.

Review 21:Our flat had a fantastic view over the lake. It was situated just round the corner from the main square. We were in Italy for a wedding, and saw the rooms some others were staying in - no-one had as nice a place to stay as us! All round, a lovely stay!

Review 22:The town of Orta San Guilio is quaint and charming. The breakfast, although six blocks away, was very good.

Review 23:Forty steps to second floor room, breakfast at another location, no view from balcony

Review 24:Friendly reception staff, room close to centre, quiet and comfortable

Review 25:Our group booked 8 rooms varying from 2 to 4 nights. They were in 5 different locations. Some rooms were beautiful and others were very tired and shabby. I paid more for my shabby tiny room as those in the good locations. When I queried this they shrugged. I would only recommend this if you could guarantee one of the nicer rooms.

Review 26:The breakfast was very good.

Review 27:The room was quite dark and pokey, with small windows. The bathroom was fine, but had a small shower. The floorboards in each room made it quite loud. The wallpaper was a little too in your face!! Especially the morning after the wedding we had attended!

Review 28:It was a good option, considering the small size of the town and the fact that there were many weddings while we were there. The breakfast was great, a massive selection of anything and everything! We had access to wifi, but only in the town.

Review 29:can be very noisy at night as those who just finished eating dinner at midnight walk and talk right by your window Parking is about a kilometer from the hotel office and you cant drop off; you need to shlep your suitcase with you finding the hotel and office; poorly marked

Review 30:beautiful location

Review 31:Ironing board provided by reception but no ironing board. Some furniture a little tired. Felt slightly expensive for what it was

Review 32:Excellent location, perfect for me and a group of mates in town for a wedding. Also friendly helpful staff

Review 33:Damp walls in the bedroom and bathroom; Broken fixtures in bathroom; Holes in bedroom walls; General "not fit for purpose" feel to the place

Review 34:Nothing comes to mind

Review 35:We didn't receive instructions for finding the hotels parking spot before arriving ; upon arrival, it turned out to be too far from the hotel and too complicated to use to be of any interest, so we stuck with public parking. Also, the hotel reception area was a bit hard to find. The room / appartment had no view.

Review 36:We loved the location ; couldn't have been better, very central, great neighborhood in beautiful town. We felt really privileged ! The breakfeast buffet was amazing (great diversity and quality).

Review 37:While the breakfast was amazing the food at the Piccolo Olina restaurant was a bit lackluster. I would recommend trying another place in the charming town of Orta San Guilio.

Review 38:We had a great night at Hotel Olina. Our room had a lake view and was ample in accommodating our family of three. The staff was very helpful and friendly. As many reviewers have already commented, the breakfast is incredible--the best hotel breakfast I've had in Italy!

Review 39:No airconditioning and no nets on windows to keep Mosquitos out, so we had to choose either sweltering heat or being eaten alive. Not to mention the fact that the window opened onto the street causing us 2 sleepless nights from the noisy teenage locals!! Would be fine in winter though and staff were lovely.

Review 40:WiFi was supposed to work in the room but it mostly didn't. I used the WiFi at the buffet breakfast. Lighting in the room was insufficient. I needed to close the persiane at night to keep the mosquitos out and then the room became hot.

Review 41:The complimentary buffet breakfast served at the hotel on the main piazza was excellent. I could walk everywhere safely. Room was spacious. View from the full length window was lovely.

Review 42:The concept of a hotel in three different locations - one for the reception, one for the actual room, and one for breakfast - took a bit getting used to.

Review 43:Breakfast - pretty amazing variety - and nice roomy shower.

Review 44:Friendly staff, good location, nice room, comfortable, had everything I needed. Good breakfast

Review 45:No lift.

Review 46:Excellent location & staff. Room very big and cosy.

Review 47:The waiter at the restaurant.

Review 48:Comfortable bed. Nice breakfast. Great food at the restaurant.

Review 49:Room at top of several flights of stairs. No 'fridge.

Review 50:Centrally placed and easygoing. Well cleaned daily.

Review 51:No internet in our room

Review 52:Access with luggage

Review 53:Friendly staff . Value for money . Good Restaurant . Excellent breakfast .

Review 54:Near to our room there is a bar/Restaurant. It was busy the half of the night and very loud. No WLAN.

Review 55:The service in the restaurant was extremely slow.

Review 56:The people on reception were very helpful with tips on local festivals, etc.

Review 57:No air conditioning and room was very very hot

Review 58:Very good location

Review 59:Cleanliness and location. Very helpful staff

Review 60:Room was clean and comfy, but nothing special. The location is what makes it great.

Review 61:Breakfast

Review 62:Beautiful rustic town. Great room but breakfast poor. Otherwise lovely place.

Review 63:Perfect location! Cheap and basic but clean and comfortable

Review 64:Location, very friendly and helpfull staff (Selene), breakfast was very nice

Review 65:Reception not always manned, therefore difficult to contact staff

Review 66:Fabulous breakfast. friendly staff

Review 67:heating wasn't working and it was still quite cold in the room

Review 68:great central location, clean rooms, nice breakfast

Review 69:the location is great. the breakfast was a pleasure

Review 70:Location was great. Value for money Friendly staff

Review 71:Gorgeous breakfast - best ever Nice and friendly staff charming room

Review 72:A drying rack needed.

Review 73:Beautiful room with a fabulous view.

Review 74:Leaving

Review 75:The breakfast and staff

Review 76:The parking is really distant from the hotel and the room is quite expensive for its value. In addition, the woman with whom I spoke at the phone was incredibly rude and unpolite. I recommend Orta's lake but NO Hotel Olina

Review 77:The room was clean. Orta's lake is a wonderful place

Review 78:Exhaust of fume hood of the restaurant across the alley produced an annoying smell at times (room "Itsy Bitsy")

Review 79:Excellent and abundant breakfast buffet, beautiful room with new and modern bathroom

Review 80:The location in this beautiful town was great and the breakfast was excellent too. Room was basic but comfortable and clean. Really easy to get to from the car park at the top.

Review 81:the room does not have devices to hang clothes, especially in the bathroom. It is also not so easy to reach (and to get out) the front of the hotel with a car (to deliver and to pick up lugagge), especially if it is a big car. The free parking lot is not close to the hotel, which is not a problem with good weather. But with rainy weather this must be inconvenient.

Review 82:the hotel has a good location, quite near the Orta lake, the staff is gentle and helpful with guests. The breakfast was nice with a good variety of items, although it was necessary to go to another building 2 blocks far from the hotel. With good weather it is not a problem but when raining this must be inconvenient.

Review 83:If you arrive by car, do not drive across the ztl line (Zona TrafficoLimitato). Cameras are watching and you may get a fine just for crossingthe line, even if you turn around and depart straight away. If you needto bring your car closer, park up, go to the hotel and get them totemporarily register your vehicle.

Review 84:Perfect location in the town. Orta San Giulio is a beautiful setting fora holiday and by far the best location on the lake.

Review 85:I would not recommend staying at Piccolo Hotel Olina. It's not gotanything going for it that would justify spending 95 euro/night onit. No lake view, not that clean, not that comfortable, not nicelydecorated, on the main street which was noisy at night.

Review 86:Beatifull town Nice people

Review 87:- the room was very very small, with a sofa that opened to a bed - the sheets werent very clean

Review 88:- amazing view from the room - very nice breakfasty - exellent location- near the buses and the entrance to the old part

Review 89:The room was a very very nice, and an excellent value. There was a little balcony with a view over the rooftops. The kids slept in a loft area and we had a separate bedroom. The bathroom was lovely, with stone walls. I would love to return to this very room in this very hotel someday. The reception was friendly and helpful in explaining the somewhat complicated parking situation.I also emailed in advance questions about parking and they were great at answering. The breakfast was delicious, in a memorable setting!

Review 90:The staff could have been a little bit friendlier - when we told them that the room was a bit too hot in the night and if it was possible to have a fan they disagreed with our opinion of the temperature (what's that all about?!) but then gave us a fan without any further issue... odd!

Review 91:A 10% off voucher at the associated restaurant was a great touch - would highly recommend trying the place! The room was large and clean.

Review 92:The breakfast: never seen a place in which u have to cook your own egg!!There were almost no chairs to seat and the location was out of the lakeview. For small money u get a better one in a bar just there. No supportfor disabled at all

Review 93:The landscape of the lake and the central location

Review 94:We were disappointed to miss out on a lakeside view. Our room was on the 3rd floor and no lift meant it was very hard work to get our cases up and down. Whilst on the highest level, street noise did at times disturb our sleep. The room was cleaned quite late in the afternoon.

Review 95:Breakfast was served in a separate building about 250 yards away - but was possibly the best we have ever had! It was in a beautiful setting, open to the main town square and the selection was outstanding.

Review 96:There is no parking next to hotel, because the placement is in the pedestrian area. We used parking in upper area (5 minutes from the hotel), cost 10 euro per day

Review 97:The rooms in Hotel are very big and comfortable. It was clean every day. The breakfast is pretty good. The hotel is situated on the best point of the Orta San Giulio, Motta square, next to the lake and 10 minutes from the Sacro Monte hills.

Review 98:Inadequate lighting in bathroom, shower too small, no place to put toiletries. No AC or WiFi at hotel. Breakfast location was very hard to find; we walked around for 15 minutes and asked 2 different people where it was. Had to climb 38 stairs to reach room, especially difficult with lots of luggage.

Review 99:Comfy bed, nice view (though limited).

Review 100:No full length mirror in rooms. Was attending a wedding so was important to see how you looked.

Review 101:Position of hotel, friendly staff. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 102:This is not a hotel but a very good restaurant with rooms scattered around the lovely town of San Giulio. We stayed in a small apartment. It was quite basic, sparsely furnished and up a lot of steps but was in the middle of the town, with probably the best view of the lake that it is possible to get. The staff were very helpful indeed. Breakfast is taken in a room across the square, which gets a bit crowded, but the food was really excellent.

Review 103:The view from the small balcony isn’t impressive. There is no lift and the staircase is narrow.

Review 104:The staff of the hotel was very helpful. The hotel itself is very well located on the main street although Orta itself is small town/village and everything is close to the main squire and the restaurants. Our rooms (for four and for two people-second floor) were big with interesting design. The breakfast is in the next hotel (only 20m away) and is truly delicious and “ART”. Good price-good quality.

Review 105:The room was a little bare. It would have been nice to have a comfy chair to sit in.

Review 106:The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The location is spectacular.

Review 107:No close parking for free. But 10 euros a day only a short walk downinto town.

Review 108:Very friendly and helpful staff. The location was excellent right in themiddle of Orta and its medieval narrow cobbled streets. A 2 minutestroll to the jetty for the boat to the Isla de Guilio. Great Restrauntwith stunning food and good prices. Excellent wifi service in thebreakfast room with one of the best breakfast you'll get in anyhotel across Europe.

Review 109:Old and uncomfortable mattresses in both bedrooms. Wi-fi connection 300metres from bedroom at the square!

Review 110:Location

Review 111:The breakfast was execellent. Nice room.

Review 112:Few seats for Breakfast and stools heigh sometimes not suitable for the table

Review 113:Nice room an location, pleasant stay.

Review 114:There were no problems nut the hotel only has rooms no othr facilities.

Review 115:Interesting quirky rooms and a kettle too.

Review 116:friendly staff, cosy room, lovely breakfast

Review 117:Very clean Breakfast is very good

Review 118:room clean but old with not much soundproofing

Review 119:excellent location

Review 120:Fantastic breakfast had a lake view

Review 121:Breakfast and views from room

Review 122:The room was hot even with the fan.

Review 123:Location very good. Nice decorations.

Review 124:Air con not working and no fly screens have come away covered in mozzie bites

Review 125:Location and helpful staff

Review 126:No Internet!!!!

Review 127:Quirky rooms
