Reviews for Santa Caterina
Review 1:There was a strong smell of synthetic cleaners. This is not good for you. You can clean without them. Electric lamps in the room were very poor. The tv screen extremely small and almost impossible to see form the bed. We were offered af cup of coffee in ´the welcome room´, but it was cold - we asked for new coffee, but were told that the coffe was fresh. They wated to warm it up by turning on the coffee maker. We gave up.
Review 2:The staff was helpfull. Good bed. Breakfast ok.
Review 3:We chose the hotel as it is dog friendly and havig stayed before we knew it has a good location, spacious rooms and a good breakfast, all for a good price.
Review 4:Parking in Garage (+8€/day) Free parking 5 min.from hotel Inkl.very well breakfast. Afternoon: Water and cake/ cookies free. Friendly staff. Clean room (superior) 15 min walkway to orta center/ lake orta.
Review 5:The wifi worked only in the comon rooms on the ground floor
Review 6:The staff was very nice and helpful, the room was cosy. The breakfast was good with a great selection of cheese, ham, fruits etc.
Review 7:The road in front of the Hotel is, though rather small, very busy. We stayed Sat night and traffic with very keen motorcyclists and sort of racing car drivers kept us awake almost all night. Walking to the center of San Giulio at the lake front (Piazza Mario Motta), is decent, as soon as you got over the main road. It's 10mins downhil and 15 mins up, back to the hotel. Easy.
Review 8:Thre breakfast is superb, for Italian hotels: fresh fruits, a wide range of breakfast items and very good coffee, indeed.
Review 9:Wifi only available on ground floor.
Review 10:Good location with parking, helpful staff, excellent breakfast buffet, coffee & cake available in Welcome room.
Review 11:the airconditioning system need some boosting. Do not expect view of the lake!
Review 12:Friendly and helpfull staff, excellent breakfast, intresting decoration, comfortablr rooms. The "welcome room" provides free snacks and soft drinks, and cosy atmosphere.
Review 13:There was nothing wrong with the hotel but the location wasn't ideal. Sure, it isn't a super long walk to the little town, but when it's hot out it's not the most convenient location. Also, there are no sidewalks by the hotel which makes walking a little risky. This is only for a couple of hundred meters though but still. Wouldn't walk here with children. Another thing was the wifi which only worked in common areas and not in our room. And last, the parking by the hotel is paid and if you want free parking, it's further down the road which we didn't know in advance. Just so you know.
Review 14:Very spacious room with great bed. We also had a balcony which was really nice!
Review 15:Hotel is clean, a nice brakfast and a good value. Although hotel is not on lake, it is actually well located for exploring Sacro Monti di Orta, and the town of Orta. As we explored the area (beyond town lake front) the location of hotel actually improved. Hotel is very close to Sacro Monti di Orta, and to Orta San Giulio.
Review 16:Although a bit further from the beautiful old town, a walk down the hill to explore the town and back again at sunset was one of the most memorable afternoons of our holiday. The hotel is neat and offers a huge breakfast buffet - by far the best breakfast on our trip.
Review 17:On a motorbike trip through the Alp countries. Nice hotel, beautiful location, very friendly staff. And he most exquisite breakfast we've had all week, better still: all year.
Review 18:Centraly controlled air con was on all night and was noisy. Had to sleep under the doona as it got quite cool.
Review 19:Price for the proximity to the main town was great. Walk in was interesting. Approx 20 mins. Exploration, swim, apperitivo and dinner and it was then a pleasant stroll home. Plan to do it this way, as it is the most effective.Ba
Review 20:No wifi in rooms only in public areas, at breakfast: first comes, first serves -> they didn't refill the empty croissants busket etc., bath room was very small and old, room and hotel interior didn't match together and felt somehow cheap
Review 21:extraordinary breakfast buffet, friendly stuff, nice garden and public area
Review 22:I got caught out and didn't have cash on me. Probably didn't read the instructions on line for this. Needed to go into town before next stop instead of on way to next stop. The owners took me in their car to find a cash-point and return! How is that for consideration and patience!
Review 23:View from lovely spacious room. Friendly family. Close to everything - if you have a car. Off street parking secure and great. Lovely garden we didn't have time to sit in and enjoy as we were more on the move than stay put visitors. Great spot to exit from a cruise ship before heading off on your destination or to explore up and down the coast. Breakfast fresh home-made Italian self-serve. A beautiful table setting, crockery, etc., and coffee :)
Review 24:WiFi only worked downstairs in public areas (but not dining room) which is not so convenient.
Review 25:Location was close to the lake and town and easy to find. Breakfast spread was plentiful with lots of options. Reception was excellent and we enjoyed our stay immensely.
Review 26:The room was a bit bare, we also didn't have the beside tables.
Review 27:Breakfast is great, you can eat whatever you want - all is fresh and perfect Room very clean
Review 28:The insistence on a penalty for leaving one day early. Two rooms had hangers not removable which were unreachable. (We changed rooms for this reason but the second was just as bad.)
Review 29:Safe underground parking. Clean towels and room "done" daily. Very friendly and helpful staff. Close to 'trenino" for transport into town.
Review 30:Road from hotel to village has no footpath for 100 yards, then a busy roundabout. Only one local place to eat where car is not needed Paying to park car in garage
Review 31:Italian holiday resort of old Very beautiful lake Brilliant breakfast - Fish!
Review 32:This was a very last minute booking for us and the staff were great. The location is amazing and the hotel clean and tidy. Great breakfast included. Would definately stay again.
Review 33:Parking on premises & lift to all floors; easy access to the lakeside walk around the peninsula & the village OS Orta San Guilo; breakfast choices were plentiful including fresh fruit.
Review 34:Rather cramped bathroom with poor lighting and feeble hairdryer No proper Italian coffee or hot chocolate for breakfast! Tiled floors mean corridor noise.
Review 35:Very good breakfast buffet selection Very clean everywhere. Free drinks/snack room an excellent initiative
Review 36:Hotel was 15 minutes walk from the main piazza, which wasn't a problem in itself, but the area directly around the hotel had speedy traffics and no pavement.
Review 37:Quirky touches, good facilities, liked the free tea and cakes.
Review 38:Receptions opening hours was a mess - and almost made us missed the morning flight home due a very late checking out time
Review 39:Excellent breakfast Interior is an unusual mix of design and style - we liked it! The town and the lake is very beautiful Do not miss a pasta topped with truffle (tartuf) at one of the hotel restaurants at the lake side
Review 40:The bed was not very comfortable.
Review 41:The reception we got was very welcoming and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was convenient as it was at an easy walking distance from the town center. There is a car park at the hotel at extra charge but it was full at the time so we got to park nearby in a fenced paddock for free. The room was tidy enough. The breakfast was superb with plenty of choice.
Review 42:Not very important, but an espresso machine down in the breakfast room would be great! Wifi in the bedroom and not only in the reception area would also be handy.
Review 43:The room was big and clean, and the breakfast is outstanding. A big selection of fresh fruit, cerials, bread, ham and cheeses, cakes... The staff very friendly and helpful. There is a room to relax with free drinks and snacks. In the reception is a good map of the area. The location is alright, between the the centre of the village and the Sacro Monte, a 10-15 mins walk to the Piazza Motta. Convenient parking in the basement.
Review 44:No wifi in the rooms.
Review 45:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast selection was quite good, lots of cold cuts in addition to cereal, bread and cakes. Room was basic but quite a good size.
Review 46:was not user friendly: - wheelchair was not able to enter lift - food was not available as restaurant was closed and there was no bar I was on medication and yet could not take my medicine as no food was available yet was charged for the day when we decided to move to another hotel - totally insensitive to my needs
Review 47:The breakfast coffee tasted suspiciously like Nescafe, which according to me is a horrible way to start one's day (especially in Italy where the coffee is normally excellent).
Review 48:Our room (for a family of 4) was huge and had a lovely view. Very clean and quiet. Staff were friendly. Breakfast food was abundant-- lots of choices, fresh, delicious. Hotel is above town-- takes about 15 minutes to walk down into town. Nice walk with beautiful views, on are road with few cars.
Review 49:The internet was only available in reception area between 10am-8pm. It is a 15-20 minute walk into the centre of Orta.
Review 50:The hotel is querky as it has lots of modern art dotted around the reception eg. model plaster of paris polar bear on a chair. Soft drinks and sweet snacks available from 3pm-7am. Reception were very helpful to plan a day out in th rain!
Review 51:Fine breakfast
Review 52:Pay for parkin Purple room?
Review 53:The breakfast
Review 54:Lovely basic hotel, good value for money
Review 55:Breakfast was a bit boring, terrible coffee.
Review 56:Good, clean room. Quiet location.
Review 57:Huge selection for breakfast and all good healthy items plus some sweets
Review 58:The manager was rude. Breakfast horrid.
Review 59:The location
Review 60:nothing
Review 61:Perfect Service
Review 62:Crossing the street in front of the hotel can feel somewhat risky.
Review 63:Excellent breakfast buffet.
Review 64:Having to cook your own eggs and limited choice for breakfast, also no towels!
Review 65:Location and friendliness of staff, also the price
Review 66:The location is very bad and the room looked awful I didn't stay there
Review 67:Nothing
Review 68:excellant breakfast.
Review 69:Short walk from Orta village
Review 70:Not much
Review 71:Absolutely loved their restaurant
Review 72:Wifi just at first floo, no in the rooms.
Review 73:Nice staff
Review 74:Most outstanding and plentiful breakfast ever...and it was included in the price.
Review 75:The staff were helpful and friendly. We were happy with how easy it was to find the hotel and especially wih the great breakfast.
Review 76:Extra charge for Parking
Review 77:Clean, friendly staff
Review 78:No wi-fi in the rooms.
Review 79:Excellent staff. Very clean. Good value. Free parking.
Review 80:Air conditioning for rooms controlled by reception and only up till 11pm.
Review 81:Modern.
Review 82:Nothing!
Review 83:Very helpful friendly staff. They are clearly trying to create a community feel with public TVs and wi if only in public. Trying to bring people together. Not far fro the lake which is excellent.
Review 84:Breakfast was only ok. It was quite varied in its contents but none of it was amazing. Would not have wanted to stay much more than the 2 nights in the room, it was big enough for just sleeping but there wasn't much room for an extended stay. The balcony/outside area was a little unkept, and had basically no view.
Review 85:Simple enough accomadation but spacious enough for a weekend trip. Just a bedroom and a sort of balcony. Quirky enough hotel in terms of decoration etc which was pretty cool. No problems with the staff, always quite helpful and a decent amount of english. It was only about a 15 minute walk to the heart of the town along a lovely road. Lake Orta is amazing so you wont be spending much time in the hotel! Easy access from the road.
Review 86:There was a problem with ants in the coffee room. The final day we had them in our room as well.
Review 87:The location was very good for touring the area. Staff was helpful and very nice. Great breakfast too.
Review 88:Really friendly, welcoming, helpful owner & staff. Excellent accomodation and really superb breakfast. Located just pleasant walking distance from the town of Orta. Underground parking an added bonus.
Review 89:it would have been nice to have wifi in the room,a full size mirror and a bigger tv. about breakfast: only american coffee and no fresh croissants!
Review 90:superior room is spacious, confi bed, friendly staff,15 mins walk to the centre, sightseeing walk (slightly downhill), nice breakfast with a variety of sweet and salted food
Review 91:Toilets would suit a Tour de France team or others with similarly skinny backside! Ouch. Bizarre taps with a mind of their own. Exit from hotel straight on to a fast road - we were nervous every time we went out walking with our kids - not much better in a car!
Review 92:Great breakfasts, large family bedroom, good value for money.
Review 93:Our shower door was obviously broken when we arrived, with a piece of track leaning against the wall! We were offered another room and immediately found that shower door was similarly broken and we were not impressed by the circular bed in that one. The only other option was to upgrade to a suite, costing 130 euros a night extra. We stuck with the first room and put up with the loud screeching when using the shower door. We stayed three nights and it was not touched on repaired. The clothes hanging rail was fixed in an alcove, with hangers which were also fixed to it. The rail was so high that I could only reach it at full stretch, with my fingertips. I was a police officer for 32 years and don't think I have shrunk that much? My wife, the receptionist and hotel cleaner could not reach it although the cleaner did manage to hang a coat on a hanger by jumping up and down several times! Perhaps I would recommend this hotel to giants who don't shower?
Review 94:The area was lovely and easy access to Lake Maggiore, via the back road past the hotel. The breakfasts, which catered for a very wide range of tastes were superb and were effectively all you can eat. They even allowing guests to cook their own bacon and eggs, if they wish.
Review 95:Hard to fault!
Review 96:Secure car park, cheaper than public parking nearby. Lovely room withbalcony with view of mountains. From 3.00pm onwards coffee, soft drinksand snacks available without charge. Reasonable walk to Lake Orta andthe beautiful Orta S. Guilio.
Review 97:Nothing really. This is our third annual visit!
Review 98:Excellent relaxed staff with first class breakfasts and snacks available late afternoon and evening. A perfect hotel when visiting the area. We enjoyed the garden room.
Review 99:Very comfortable and clean family room with nice facilities, good view. The stuff was nice and helpful. The breakfast was the best I've ever had in the hotel. The afternoon bar is fantastic addition.
Review 100:5. Service - Bare Minimum - All of the positives were let down by the lack of service. As mentioned there is a great snack room, but it didn't have clean glasses for a drink or teaspoons to stir your coffee, just simple things that become annoyances when they could be easily fixed with a bit of attention to detail. We wanted to hire some bicycles but the lady at the front desk was not very helpful with any information other than 'ask tomorrow'. Having arrived in Orta about 12pm, we had to wait till 3pm to check in and when we did, the room was only half made. We had to go down and ask them to finish the job off.
Review 101:We stayed at Santa Caterina for two nights. We were given a room on level three (#302) and it was a four person apartment which was very spacious and comfortable without being spectacular. It had a balcony with views of Sacre Monti & Villa Crespi. Our review is based on the following criteria; 1. Location - Excellent - nice 15min walk to the Piazza in Orta San Guilio. Just up the road from Agrigelataria but as mentioned by others there is a short walk on a busy street which was not a big issue unless with small kids. 2. Room - Good - Room was clean and functional without being luxurious. Good beds, spacious room. Bath & toilet were good and modern. 3. Hotel Facilities - Fair - Wifi is only on ground floor and often hit & miss which was annoying. Great snack room open from 3pm to 7am with coffee and cakes for guests to use. This was great when were up at 4am due to jetlag as we could have a coffee and get on the net where there was wifi service. 4. Breakfast - Very good - Great selection of fruit, bread, meats, cheese and make your own eggs option. Overall - 3.5 out of 5 considering price point.
Review 102:There was nothing negative about this hotel.
Review 103:Everything about this hotel was wonderful. Friends had recommended this hotel to me previously and said how good it was. The food was plentiful and fresh, staff couldn't be any nicer, rooms were clean. A 15/20 min walk to Lake Orta (which is the most amazing romantic setting), although you could get the road train for a fee. Views wonderful, what more can I say! I would stay at this hotel again.
Review 104:The room was very comfortable The Staff were extremely helpful both with keeping the air con on whenever we needed it and organising taxi's, breakfast was very extensive with a great variety, generally a clean, value for money hotel
Review 105:Spartan rooms, air-con was switched off by staff sporadically. Breakfast was wide-ranging but if you arrived after 9.30 then the full selection was rarely available (and the dairy products were not refrigerated).
Review 106:Staff were friendly and the bathrooms were quite modern with a powerful shower. We were upgraded on arrival and given free car-parking. The air-con died in our room but we were moved without any fuss. Free snacks (leftovers from breakfast) and water was a nice feature.
Review 107:Room a little shabby, for example skirting coming off wall, toilet seat missing rubber feet.
Review 108:Good spaces room. Very clean. Fantastic breakfasts and a good afternoon tea facility. Good relaxing environment.
Review 109:Entrance on street with lots of traffic and one must leave car blinking outside to enter with luggage. 8€/night hotel parking, exterior parking several hundred meters away.
Review 110:Great hotel with professional and efficient service. Extraordinary buffé with all one could wish plus free coffee, tea and soft drinks 24/24. Bathrobes supplied in big barthroom.
Review 111:The setup of breakfast room can be improved. The plates, bowl and cutlery can be more accessible.
Review 112:Nice hotel. Good and helpful staff. The breakfast was very good.
Review 113:Location - 20 mins out of the town and up hill all the way home. Not an easy walk as suggested on-line Accommodation was grim - no towels, intermittent airconditioning which was set for the whole hotel and was v noisy. Beds awful - lumpy and rubber matress so very sweaty Felt worse than a student hostel. Walls paper thin so also noisy
Review 114:Breakfast was good if you were early enough. Ran out of the nice food quickly Orta San Guilio is a beautiful spot, but Santa Caterina is awful and cannot be recommended to anyone
Review 115:One day time desk worker was very rude and not helpful!
Review 116:Great Breakfast! Very clean and comfortable. Nice convenient garage. We have stayed there three times and will return! we have recommended it to our friends often!
Review 117:Strange decor in the rooms, poor location of hotel, too far from Orta lake to walk. No bath towels, we were expected to use hand towels after our baths! Upon request, we did get proper bath towels. The staff thought it was ok to switch off the a/c at night, with 33 deg c temperatures outside! Upon query, we were told that they only put on the a/c from 2 to 5 pm and 9 pm to 12 midnight! They stopped doing this after we complained.
Review 118:The breakfast buffet was amazing! Friendly staff, very nice owner.
Review 119:We had cold showers both mornings. Reception told us to wait half an hour but the water was still cold (at 9am so not an unusual time to shower)
Review 120:Great breakfast buffet
Review 121:The taps in the bathroom were surprisingly awkward to use!
Review 122:Responsive, friendly service Spacious, warm, comfortable room (on 3rd floor) with good bathroom Remarkably good breakfast Good off street garaging Easy, attractive walk into Orta St G which is a delightful place to visit
Review 123:This hotel is one of the best I've been to!!!!! It is at only 15 minuteson foot from the centre (nice walk along the lake) the room was veryconfortable, there are free wifi connection and free internet point(very useful especially for businnes) and a snack room where there weredelicious cakes made every day the staff welcome us at check in withlots of information about the centre and the region and they were allvery helpful during the entire stay last thing... The breakfast... Neverseen one like that before: homemade cakes and biscuits, lots of cheesesand hams, salami, salty puff pastry... Like a lunch !!!! Thanks onceagain to this hotel for making our holiday so special!!!!!
Review 124:The garden area could be made a little more attractive particularly the garden at the side of the hotel.
Review 125:Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent buffet breakfast. Quirky decor. Having its own car park.
Review 126:The front desk staff spoke English but was not very helpful. When shegave us information it was not correct. She was so unfriendly it washard to believe she was Italian.
Review 127:The breakfast was plentiful especially for Italy
Review 128:Room literally had lights only connected to the walls by cables, peeling paint on the ceiling and generally dirty. There was a flat screen TV in the room - never really seen one as small before. Location is pretty bad. Its a reasonably long walk into Orta and as it was often raining the walk was more of a chore than anything else. There were no towels in our room - didn't manage to get one each, only one plus some smaller hand towels. Again, not sure why. Someone will also need to explain to me the chairs with buckets that are tied to the wall outside the windows (about 15 feet off the ground) which was basically our view from the first floor window.
Review 129:The breakfast.
Review 130:Quiet comfortable room with small garden. Extensive breakfast, on site parking for small fee or free parking just down the road. Short walk to very attractive lakeside village of Orta.
The Fine Print
Please note that check-in always takes place in the main building.
