Reviews for Hotel Relais Modica
Review 1:Requires climbing many steps just to get to the entrance. Not a viable option for those not in good physical condition.
Review 2:Clean, quiet, great location, very friendly staff
Review 3:The room was spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking the old town. Lots of helpful advice about local sites and places to eat. Location is incorrect on google maps so best to follow the road up on foot. A small inconvenience.
Review 4:No wifi reception in the room as the walls were too thick
Review 5:View of old town is fabulous Power shower with excellent drainage Very convenient location Lovely host
Review 6:Antonio, the owner is very helpful and gave us some excellent tips on local restaurants. Lovely rooms away from the noise of the main road, though very central and nice to have breakfast on the balcony.
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:I really enjoyed staying in this charming hotel right in the center but quiete location. We had a big spacious room with amazing view over the town. Very friendly, helpful owner.i recommend it
Review 9:Right in the historical heart of Modica we really enjoyed staying in this lovely Hotel . Our room in this old Palazzo was very spacious with an absolutly amazing view over the old town from our bed and balcony. Very friendly and helpful owner. I recommend this place
Review 10:- proximity to and convenience in regard to cafes, restaurants, shops, bus station - size of room and bathroom - room was spotless - breakfast - real yoghourt, choice of cereals, plenty fresh fruit - really good coffee
Review 11:Breakfast was somehow not equal to this place character. Lots of good yogurts but croissants and cake tasted like from the box and not freshly prepared. I was so very sad after such a lovely stay and emotions. And hopes reading the earlier reviews.
Review 12:The character of the premises - kind of posh but simple. And yes, it's a little warn out but for me it was part of this place's charm. We had spacious room with a lovely balcony and views over the town. So very helpful staff.
Review 13:The hotel itself admits the directions for finding it are misleading. Our efforts to find it in our little hire car were rather scary.
Review 14:Position, when we found it. Excellent welcome. An experience not to be missed.
Review 15:A pain having to carry suitcases up a long flight of stairs in 35 degree heat
Review 16:Lovely high ceiling and balcony with fabulous view of town Owner very helpful with local advice and directions
Review 17:Breakfasts could do with a revamp, a bit long-life quality.
Review 18:Easy access to shops & restaurants. Antonio gave us excellent adviceon places to visit & how to get there, felt like we were seeing thereal Sicily. A charming host :) in a hotel with tons of character.
Review 19:Great boutique hotel in Modica which is a beautiful baroque town. Fabulous views from the balconies and the terrace. Antonio is a great host with good info in regards to restaurants and places to visit. Breakfast is fresh and varied and the rooms are large, spacious and clean. Visit this beautiful town to experience the real Sicily.
Review 20:No problems. You can get some exercise climbing stairs in Modica, butthat's probably a good thing.
Review 21:A great place from which to explore Modica. Antonio is a warm andhelpful host. He has travelled the world himself and speaksexcellent English.
Review 22:Excellent position.
Review 23:Difficulty locating hotel in a side alley and the many, many steps to climb to reach the hotel.
Review 24:Centro location. Friendly staff. Lovely view.
Review 25:Silence and wonderful landscape from room window
Review 26:Location Very helpful and approachable staff
Review 27:Very helpful friendly owner. Quiet room but close to main street. Beautiful view from balcony.
Review 28:As soon as you get through the gate into the little courtyard, you know this is going to be so much more than just a B&B...
Review 29:Wonderful friendly staff and great views of this lovely, lively town. Somewhere we'll definitely return to.
Review 30:*The number of steps required to access the hotel....you need to travel light! *The very basic breakfast; no cold meats or cheese or Sicilian pastries; and the poor croissants provided came out of a packet. *The fact that we couldn't get a glass of beer or wine to enjoy while sitting on the balcony. *The neglected planters and flower containers on the terrace and courtyard.
Review 31:* Stunning view from balcony. * Bright spacious room. * Good sized bathroom. * Friendly helpful host.
Review 32:The croissants!
Review 33:Owner, Antonio, was superb. Despite a broken ankle, he insisted on carrying my luggage. Breakfast was good, my room was large and comfortable, and bathroom ideally equipped. Antonio couldn't have been more helpful, even recommending a great car trip. The hotel is perfectly located for cafes, bars and restaurants. I wouldn't hesitate at recommending the Relais Modica.
Review 34:nothing
Review 35:This property is in the heart of Modica. The rooms have a ton of character and are very clean. The breakfast in the morning is delightful. The owner will whip up cappuccino for you and serves lot of yogurts. We selected Hotel Relais for two reasons; first, we wanted a true Sicilian experience and second, we always prefer in-town locations for walking to restaurants, bars and shopping. Antonio is a wonderful host !!!I'd highly recommend staying here.
Review 36:Took us a while to work out where we could find a parking space, as we went in term-time and parking wasn't allowed near the school. The steps up to the hotel were quite challenging, but we did end up fitter at the end of the week.
Review 37:Stunning views of the old town and churches from our balcony. Francesca and Antonio really helpful and friendly. Good centre for visiting the Iblas area of Sicily where much of the Inspector Montalbano series was filmed. Also lots of Interesting ruins, temples and grottos in the area.
Review 38:Nothing.
Review 39:Great base for touring the area. Francesca and Antonio had lots of goodsuggestions for visits and places to eat. Local restaurants very good.Room had large french doors looking out to the picturesque town.Capuccino on the balcony. Sunny room in the morning.
Review 40:Everything!! Anybody exploring eastern Sicily would be foolish not to stay at this wonderful welcoming hotel in one of the most beautiful small cities in the world. We could not have had kinder, more generous and more friendly hosts. Delicious light breakfasts. Spotless rooms with spectacular views over the city. Plenty of superb food in town at very moderate prices.
Review 41:The hotel is listed as 3-star. This is just right. However, the price charged should be ca. 70-75 Euros; this is what it would cost elsewhere in Europe. However, with 89 EUROS, the Relais Modica was one of the more expensive hotels I had booked in Sicily, and all others were rated as 4-star. The Grand Hotel Borsa in Palermo cost me just 6 Euros more than the Relais Modica, and for this I received a luxurious room and big breakfast buffet. -- There were two specific problems. The A/C is mounted directly above the door to the room, and when I entered I got a warm shower and believed the owner when he said that it would get really warm and there would be no set maximum temperature. The room temperature showing on the remote control was 18 degrees, in the evening and morning it went up to 19/20 but during the night, even when I pressed 29 degrees, it stayed at 18 and even this did not seem right. It felt really cold. With only Italian channels on TV and too cold and dark to sit on the small desk chair and read, I decided to go to bed. The bedding consisted of nothing but a bed linen and - in the 21st century - a woolen blanket. Is there not enough money for a white duvet? There is nothing more unhygienic than these blankets which can never be (dry-) cleaned between guests. People move in their sleep. You know that you will have shared this blanket with hundreds of other people, no matter whether they had sweated, were unclean, or had excemas. I left my bed linen tugged in and used the blanket only over my feet. -- I did not complain at all, but when the owner asked in the morning whether I had a good sleep I was honest and said 'no', because it was too cold. I did not like the reaction: the A/C would have just been fixed, it would now be 20 degrees and this would be normal, I might not feel well, and - before I left - an American couple next door would have had no problem. Well, I had and did not make this up.
Review 42:Just after booking, I was sent excellent and detailed driving instructions. The owner, Antonio, was very friendly and welcoming and gave me advice regarding parking and a good restaurant (even a menu). I always double check, because sometimes hotels have an interest in recommending certain establishments, but the recommended osteria is known for good food and reasonable prices. The reception opens only until 10 pm, but they would wait longer for a guest. You get keys and have no problems to return later. The A/C was switched on before my arrival to warm up the room, a nice touch (but see below). The hotel is a big mansion in the lower city, in a prime location. Rooms have high cealings, and some have balconies with a view of the town and cathedral (though Modica is in a more dilapidated state than Noto). Some modernisation and updating would help, especially in the bathrooms, but rooms are spacious. Cleanliness of the bed linen, sanitary tract, and towels was really OK, though one of the smaller towels had big holes (just some net). The continental breakfast includes succulent hot croissants, but is otherwise basic and only sweet.
Review 43:The amazing view of Modica from the room and the very friendly and helpful owners, Francesca and Antonio. The quiet location in the centre of town was ideal.
Review 44:There is nothing to dislike!
Review 45:Excellent hosts, friendly and kind, beautiful view of the old town, peaceful and a tasty breakfast. Suited us very well and would highly recommend it.
Review 46:Parking near to hotel on arrival can be a problem
Review 47:Great location, very helpful host
Review 48:Hard to walk up with luggages.
Review 49:Nice view from balcony. Antonio was excellent host!
Review 50:The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel was very well located.
Review 51:Walking up the stairs to the hotel and finding a parking place were uneasy tasks
Review 52:Nice enough room and friendly owners
Review 53:Charming house with wonderful views onto the old historic town. The owner was so helpful.
Review 54:No wifi coverage in the rooms, which is a pity
Review 55:Spacy and soundproof rooms in the city center, extremely helpfull staff (owners)
Review 56:We loved the hotel, the owners and the town. The owners were so helpful in advising us on trips around the area and restaurants to visit.
