Reviews for Castello di Spaltenna Exclusive Resort & Spa

Review 1:Our room was quite small, but that's not a big problem as one will spend most of the time outside.

Review 2:Very good dinner at the Castello's restaurant (though expensive). Nice old buildings, garden, and spa area.

Review 3:Excellent location , close to most of the interesting towns in Tuscany. Great staff, always cooperative and efficient. The installations were even better than the pictures. The bathrooms were recently recycled. The views from my suite wer a postcard.

Review 4:The restaurants in the area are 40 min away (even though they said 20min) and up these awful winding roads - but that is simply location, not the hotel itself.

Review 5:The staff was AMAZING! Even before I arrived, I communicated with them via email to ask them to assist with restaurant and winery reservations and they were VERY responsive! Eating breakfast on the back terrace was AMAZING!

Review 6:That I had to leave..

Review 7:Location, location, location!!! Amazing, tranquil place, good for any age. Amazing staff, restaurants and walks around vineyards (make sure you ask for a map!) we will definitely be back. 10 out of 10 on my 4 different Tuscany hotels.

Review 8:Nothing.

Review 9:A completely delightful stay, in a historic setting with beautiful grounds. Everything was top-notch. Room was outstanding - including a sitting area, and excellent amenities themed to the Tuscany region. A wonderful place to simply relax.

Review 10:This is a very friendly family run hotel. Ideally located for visiting Salzburg. Plenty of free parking and a 20 minute bus ride into Salzburg. The hotel restaurant serves good food at reasonable prices.

Review 11:nothink but wifi could be better (if its important for you on such a beatiful place;)

Review 12:Great view, fantastic food (michelin star level) amicable and professional staff

Review 13:Location is not very practical if your planning to travel every day to Town's and City's in Toscana. You'll have to take some twisty roads for 20 -30 minutes just to make it to the closest highway, not too bad since the hotel is totally worth it.

Review 14:Excellent service and absolutely amazing food. There are two restaurants every night, even though the "fancy" one is great the other one is fantastic, less crowded and otstanding food for a better deal. A must: Spaguetti Truffle and Nona's cake.

Review 15:Wifi was slow probably because we were far away from the city.

Review 16:Everything! I've read booking reviews about this hotel and people were just right. The place is magnificent like a fairy tale in the middle of nature! I loved it! Warm staff, appreciate it a lot! I am definitely coming back again. Highly recommended if you are looking for some chill out and quiet me time.

Review 17:Perhaps wifi to be available in bedrooms.

Review 18:EVERYTHING. Just the most perfect place to stay. The staff are so efficient and friendly, the food delicious, the pool is gorgeous and most of all you are staying in such an incredibly beautiful and interesting building.

Review 19:Old monastery is beautifully transformed into a wonderful hotel and spa in the Tuscan hills. Unique, lovely accommodations with gorgeous surroundings. Fabulous staff and excellent food. Also, close to other charming villages.

Review 20:The wifi connection was poor and the A/C in the room, although working, was not great. In July that is not a good thing. The massage in the spa was very weak. I asked for a strong massage but got a nice rub down. Oh well! Not the end of the world.

Review 21:Beautiful property and very well trained staff.

Review 22:For the first time we had a problem with our room an uncomfortable bed and usual facilities. Did explain on checking out and staff as usually profusely apologetic.

Review 23:We love the hotel and its location been many times. Exceptionally well trained staff and food is excellent. The new spa is lovely.

Review 24:Nothing

Review 25:Everything - location, service, breakfast, comfort. Incredible place to stay. If we get a chance to return to Chianti, we will not be looking elsewhere else.

Review 26:The only thing I would say is that the absence of a shower curtain made it a bit difficult to shower for this American.

Review 27:Attention to detail was very impressive. Gorgeous property and excellent service.

Review 28:The staff are very kind and accommodating, but there can be a slightly pretentious tone to the dinner service. Most of the dining staff is outstanding, however if the manager holds the customer accountable for the kitchen's flaws, customer service could be improved.

Review 29:Loved the romantic atmosphere, rustic elegance, unique accommodations. The breakfast overlooking the vineyard is picturesque and the new spa is intimate and relaxing. The garden in spring is divine and the food is quite good.

Review 30:A spectacular complex in a beautiful setting. Dining in the medieval courtyard and breakfast on the terrace. Excellent facilities with wonderful service.

Review 31:Since the venue/facility is so amazing, the room comfort is not as much. The bed are two single beds put together. Again, the facility and surrounding will make that seem worthless.

Review 32:The facility is astonishing. Amazing breakfast and service all around.

Review 33:The Spa had sharing facilities and only one therapist. My luggage was dragged over the rough stone grounds from the parking lot .. ended up wiping all the dust off and was not very happy with the scratches. I suggest a luggage trolley which I demanded when checking out. Moreover, there was a beautiful outdoor courtyard that I think could have easily been transformed into a romantic dining area. The village where the hotel is located was very quiet .. .. everything closed on a Sunday even the one and only pharmacy there.

Review 34:Me and my husband visited in May. It was a quick overnight stay but worth every Euro. We were upgraded to a very comfortable suite. There are newly renovated bathrooms that have the most relaxing shower system we have ever experienced in any hotel so far. Make sure to ask for a room with one of these showers. The balcony was absolutely breathtaking and spacious. We had dinner at the Il Pievano in the hotel. The receptionist was very helpful in finding us a last minute booking. Absolutely delicious food.

Review 35:The restaurant was extremely formal (and expensive!), with no alternative if you wanted to eat in the hotel. The bar only served food at lunchtime.

Review 36:The staff were excellent; very friendly and knowledgeable. The pool was fabulous.

Review 37:We did not have a car so had to take a 1/2 hour taxi to Montevarchi, then take the train into Florence.

Review 38:Loved the view and the relaxation. We were also very impressed with the staff. They were there to please.

Review 39:Location and facilities perfectly maintained in old castle building. We enjoy the free SPA. Dinner was excellent, menu, quality and impecable service. We were sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Review 40:Wifi was not very fast, but it's deniable compared to the amazing characteristics of the place

Review 41:Location was fantastic The castle is amazing Service is excellent Wonderful garden and swimming pool

Review 42:Was not able to book the available packages, Ie the health package would have saved a little money.

Review 43:Beautiful locale and top notch accommodation and service.

Review 44:The Michelin star restaurant lived up to it's billing. The service was wonderful and very friendly. The room was charming and the courtyard was beautiful. Beautiful mountain views and a great winding drive both in and out for those that appreciate driving.

Review 45:The hotel (old castle) and its surrounds are what dreams are made of. The setting in the wine country of Tuscany, with the change to the fall colours, was beautiful. Staff were all extremely friendly and attentive, and dining room staff quite knowledgeable; meals were exceptional. The addition of the spa facilities made for a very relaxing stay.

Review 46:the dinner menue was expensive so we went out for dinner, however there is very little for doing in the town so we drove to Rada in Chianti and had a really excellent meal. about 15 mins drive

Review 47:the staff were excellent and willing to offer their assistance at anything. the pool table made for some evening entertainment

Review 48:Nothing - it was all fabulous! One thing I could suggest though is to have snacks/light meals available for when you do not want to use the restaurant.

Review 49:The location, facilities and particularly the staff were fantastic. They were so attentive, friendly and happy and made our stay an absolute delight.

Review 50:Everything! "10" in every respect--friendly, helpful staff; wonderful ambience; delicious food; even the International New York Times to accompany the sumptuous breakfast. I wish we could have stayed longer and look forward to a return visit.

Review 51:Gorgeous setting amongst the vineyards with old world charm, superb staff, very good food, great place to relax, visit wineries and Siena. Highly recommend!

Review 52:The outdoor swimming pool water was extremely cold!

Review 53:The location is stunning! Staff very professional, kind and helpful. The restoration of the place has been done very well, respecting a X Century castle but adding in all XXI Century comfort and amenities.

Review 54:Only one formal restaurant to eat in the evenings a big mistake as it is very formal and expensive and all you may want is a salad or pasta so you have to go out a real error and ruins the feeling of tranquility and service. So no eating options is not an option for me. Lady restaurant manager very abrupt and cold on occassions which is a shame as you feel uncomfortable Very poor wi fi connectivity

Review 55:People (mostly) Location excellent Trees Spa Courtyard Rooms Dining Room formal but special

Review 56:Really nothing.

Review 57:The property was large and absolutely beautiful, nestled between some hills with vines. It had a good location to get around to the surrounding wineries. Buffet breakfast on the terrace was amazing--the scrambled eggs were to die for! Our room was large and very comfortable, and there was a great pool and whirlpool. We will definitely return!

Review 58:The Wifi was down most of the 4 days we stayed at the hotel, probably just bad luck...

Review 59:The hotel facilities, views, pool, and the hotel staff. The hotel is very central in location, so you can go almost everywhere in Chianti and neighboring cities and regions by car and come back to the hotel as base. We stayed 3 nights and we had dinner in the hotel every single night, expensive but surely tasty and greatly enjoyable. The rooms were expansive too, but worth the experience. We checked a few other hotel facilities in the region which were cheaper, but none offered the cleanliness or the facilities this hotel offered, so it was worth it.

Review 60:Was expensive for the 2 bed suite and the dinner for 2 adults & 2 kids was about £300!

Review 61:Swimming pools inside & outside Courtyard & grounds Proximity to Gaiole

Review 62:Wifi reception wasnt good in our room

Review 63:We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Everything is prepared to receive you! Staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is amazing and has a great sight. We reserved a superior room but were upgraded to a Deluxe one for free! :)

Review 64:To leave

Review 65:This old monastery is now a fantastic resort. The walls gives the tranquility to the place. Excellent food, nice and friendly staff. Beautiful view over the mountains and vine yards. If you take a short walk down to the small village then it is possible to find nice restaurants with lower prices.

Review 66:Expensive (but good) food and drink Raucous children Excessively noisy Americans at dinner (the latter two not being the hotel's fault!)

Review 67:Stunning Location Outstanding staff Very good facilities - garden , swimming pool, spa, etc. Great breakfasts!

Review 68:Awesome place, spectacular views during breakfast and lunch, civilized hotel with every morning a wide choice of quality newspapers including The NewYork Times, The Times, Le Monde....and all of this in the very rural heart of Chianti.

Review 69:Kind of embarrassing to have to leave the restaurant to change into long pants. We didn't realize it was so formal.

Review 70:Everything!!! Absolutely breath-taking. Excellent service, beautiful view out our window. LOVED the breakfast! Loved everything about it!!

Review 71:The triple room beds were very uncomfortable. The work out room needs to be updated and airconditioning!

Review 72:The beautiful facilities and location was beyond beautiful! The service was outstanding as well as the gourmet rooms... What a find!!!

Review 73:The wifi was a little stop-and-go in my suite but much better overall that other hotels in Tuscany we visited.

Review 74:I recently stayed at Castello Spaltenna during my wedding weekend. The grounds are breathtaking! You really do feel like you've escaped to an ultra-posh yet charming hideaway in the hills. We held our rehearsal dinner on the outdoor terrace which offered a gorgeous view of the vineyard during aperitivo and dinner. All the staff were caring and accommodating, especially the manager, Tiziano, who I corresponded with many times leading up to the weekend events. We continued to travel around Italy and Europe after leaving Spaltenna but I can say that my favorite hotel was the gem. I'll most definitely be back!

Review 75:The food was outstanding and the setting and grounds were gorgeous.

Review 76:Perfect, beautiful, quiet, lovely staff

Review 77:Wonderful Service and great place! I would go back for sure!

Review 78:Well, was a bit scary with no staff at night, but great experience!

Review 79:Totally rustic and great experience!

Review 80:food

Review 81:Excellent location, beautiful hôtel, very quiet, great staff and amazing food, and view!

Review 82:Everything! The spa, the setting and ambience, the breakfast and the room were awesome.

Review 83:Beautiful scenery, excellent breakfast, friendly service and spa facilities, all made for a wonderful stay.

Review 84:There's nothing not to like about this place unless you try hard to find it...

Review 85:Incredible food, wine, location. Very tranquil. Service impeccable.

Review 86:scenery was beautiful, with view of olive trees and vineyards in rolling hills. Staff friendly and cheerful.

Review 87:Loved the location and eating breakfast on the terrace. Meals in the dining room were exquisite!

Review 96:Great location

Review 106:Restuarant slighty stuffy in eves

Review 107:Amazing food beautiful gardens Historical building Stunning location Breakfast on terrace

Review 108:Needs a cheaper food option Menu exclusive and expensive

Review 109:Location and standard of facilities

Review 110:Arm chair/settee in bedroom would have been good.Deluxe room so plenty of space

Review 111:Staff Dining Atmosphere

Review 112:The only complaint is that the Wi-Fi was not great.

Review 113:The food is excellent, scenery spectacular, the pool is amazing and the staff is lovely.

Review 114:Nothing at all.

Review 115:In 2013 we visited Spaltenna and we decided to return this year. With no regret. All things fell in place again.

Review 116:wi-fi is weak...

Review 117:extremely nice staff

Review 118:Poor selection in wines under 40 €... Wi-fi extremly slow / non functioning.

Review 119:Location, spa, food and hospitality from the staff were excellent!

Review 120:This is one of the most amazing places I have EVER been to. The view, the staff attentiveness, the food, the amenities. It was pure bliss. I regret not staying more than 2 nights- so much so that I tried canceling my trip to Rome so I could go back. I 100% recommend it. There is nothing like it
