Reviews for Heritance Ahungalla

Review 1:I think the hotel is showing signs of wear and the food is a bit institutional.

Review 2:fantastic location if you want a relaxing time with nice pool, and right on a great beach. really friendly and helpful staff.

Review 3:The food is good but offers limited variation and not much for children. The service in the main restaurant is also average with long waits at peak times to get refills or your first cuppa at breakfast.

Review 4:If what you are looking for is a relaxed atmosphere with direct access to an empty beach and large pools to lounge around in, you will find it here.

Review 5:The only problem we have is the fact that the sun chairs are mostly not available as some hotel guests leave personal belongings on them after they used them in the morning only to return again much later. The line for eggs was very long since there was only one person to assist but one of the managers almost immediately addressed the problem and there was almost no waiting period the next day.

Review 6:The location of the hotel is perfect right on the beach. We loved the huge swimming pools and the view from our bedroom. We also liked all the effort that was put into decorating the hotel over the festive season. We were quite impressed with management using any feedback in a constructive way trying to improve things almost immediately. The New Years celebrations were very well done and a beautiful event next to the pool and some fireworks on the beach. The food was divine as well as all the lovely ice sculptures! The hotel presented a little chocolate cake to my husband the night of his birthday that was a nice touch.

Review 7:Buffet breakfast/dinner chaotic. Not a relaxing experience eating there

Review 8:The design of the building takes full advantage of the beautiful location and is designed to catch all the breezes. The bedrooms are very comfortable and well designed.

Review 9:It is an old hotel and the service, front desk, checking out, and all was a disaster. They need Western leadership in order to enhance the level of service!

Review 10:Nothing!

Review 11:Beach view is not so great. The balconies aren't private so if you sit in the balcony you're facing 30 other rooms. The hotel is spread out too much and was severely overcrowded for monsoon low tourist season.

Review 12:The hotel is breathtaking at the first glance. The restaurants offer good food choices, the pool is delightful. The only resort around to have its own (weekends only) club. Baby sitting available. Good program to keep the kids busy.

Review 13:- carpet in the lift area, because of the wetness from the pool it made it damp and a stuffy smell - The staff walking around barefoot, management and supervisors had shoes which I could not understand why the under staff could not be given atleast a pair of flip flop!

Review 14:The staff were totally amazing from every department, housekeeping, restaurant, bar, reception etc... Every member could not do enough for you.

Review 15:They didn't have our room allocated in arrival at 04.30 Said they hadn't received our request for late check out Room not made up by 5pm Nightclub was advertised but only open on a Saturday Expensive for additional services based in local rates, eg taxi from airport Some facilities such as tennis court were in disrepair Slow service

Review 16:Lovely beach. Nice pool. Friendly staff.

Review 17:we felt 26 USD for dinner buffet was way overpriced and the 10% tax on top of our bill for already expensive food was unfair. also the service at the a la carte buffet was not the fastest.

Review 18:The beds were comfy and the buffet breakfast was the best meal.

Review 19:Slow internet as in all other hotels in Sri Lanka we stayed in, and having to have a password for wifi in a remote location. Also having to request a new password every other day as it expires.

Review 20:Beautiful pristine location. Hotel is very well managed with very friendly and service oriented staff. Mr. Rowan at the pool bar was excellent. The hotel employs one of Sri Lanka's best chefs and it shows as the food is fantastic. Also don't forget to try the spa as the Balinese ladies employed give superb massages.

Review 21:the corridors of the hotel are a bit prison like with minimal lighting, not particularly pleasant, otherwise the rest of the hotel was fantastic

Review 22:A lovely hotel situated in Ahungalla, an hour from Galle, 2 hours from colombo, 3 hours from the airport! It has a stunning lobby/ dinning room/ pool/ beach area as you arrive along the long driveway. The rooms are nice with a lovely balcony overlooking the sea (and the stunning sunsets). The food is decent as well

Review 23:Staff were not accommodating at all despite that we were a large group. Claimed they didn't even hv the ability to grant complimentary bfast. Tried to talk to manager. 3 days before he showed up.

Review 24:The wifi required a code that seemed to get cut off every so often. We were a big group and there seemed to be a shortage of king beds.

Review 25:The breakfast had a very good variety and was of a high standard not to mention delicious. The compound was very spacious with common room areas for big groups and pools. Loved the fact that we were right on the beach. Staff were mostly helpful and accommodating when planning day trips.

Review 26:The prices on the menus do not contain the added tax. After a few drinks you forget this then at the end of the night your bill is huge! All of Sri Lanka seems to be like this.

Review 27:The staff are awesome! Pools are great!

Review 28:For a place that boasts an excellent reputation, the service and facilities were somewhat lacking. We had to speak to the staff multiple times regarding twin beds (when a king was booked) and were told things would be fixed.... but they weren't until we asked 3 times. The room key wouldn't work and we were locked out multiple times. One housekeeper could get the door to open but we and two other housekeepers couldn't which meant we were locked out multiple times and reception didn't seem to care... As a young woman travelling with my partner, it was also very off putting when a male staff member came in and stood and stared at me whilst I worked out at the Gym. In the end I had to leave as he hadn't stopped staring after 15mins and I felt so uncomfortable by his behavior... Not what we expected for the price paid and the reputation...

Review 29:The location and facilities were great.

Review 30:The room was cheerfully introduced "you have a view of the restaurant" - not sure why anyone would like the smells of frying fish and the stares of a restaurant garden on their balcony/in their room. Room was strongly perfumed - not sure what this was menat to cover up.

Review 31:The beach is rather nice. All staff I had to deal with with regards to the booking/payment addressed me as "sir" - i thought this was hilarious .- and when I smiled they also had to smile about their well learned sentences not fitting my gender.

Review 32:We made the booking via booking.com 24 hours before we checked in and when we got to the hotel they didn't have our booking details and made us wait an hour without letting us check in stating that there definitely was no booking under our names. We had to call booking.com ourselves and get them to talk to the hotel (this should have been handled by booking.com and the hotel directly). It was a waste of our time and there was no apology for making us wait. There were no welcome drinks or fresh towels while we waited. We got the 2 suites by chance because their standard double rooms were booked out. I requested the welcome drinks to be sent to our room because we were tired and just hanging around and there was a massive storm so we were all drenched and the hotel foyer was flooded. I had to call reception 5 times to get the drinks and towels and every single time I was told "I will send them right away". We only got the welcome drinks (no face towels) 3 hours after we got to the hotel and had checked in and after 5 phone calls. Since there were massive storms in Sri Lanka no one could use the pool which means everyone had to resort to using the games room (pool, carrom and foosball) and the games room was packed so you had to wait your turn to be able to play. There was a table tennis room but there were no lights there and no door so the rain made it's way into the room. A few more indoor facilities would have definitely helped cure the boredom since there was nothing else to do at the hotel (couldn't go to the beach or the pool due to the storm). I don't know if it was because of the rain but the rooms and blankets were mouldy and had the mouldy smell. The bathroom tiles were constantly wet (probably due to the rain) and the bathrooms are a bit dated. The corridors were flooded so you had to be very careful when you walked because the floors were so slippery (which was out of the hotels control).

Review 33:We booked 5 rooms for 11 adults and 2 children under 12 and we got an excellent deal on booking which was $80 AUD per double room less than booking directly with the hotel. By the time we checked in though their double rooms were sold out so they upgraded 2 out of the 5 rooms to suites (one juniour suit and the luxury tendulkar suite) which was an added bonus for us. Apart from the initial hiccups - the Heritance is a really nice hotel in a great location and I am happy we booked it at such a great rate. If I had booked it at the normal hotel rate - then it definitely wouldn't have been worth what we paid because compared to the other Heritance hotels (Heritance Kandalama) - Heritance Ahungalla is definitely a bit dated and in need of some extra love and refurb.

Review 34:Booking not confirmed on arrival though we had a booking confirmation. No wifi connectivity and change of room into a single room, when double room pre-booked. The mini bar was full of outdated alcohol which had gone black. Five staff turned up to replace 1 mini fridge. The restaurant is gloomy, even though the hotel was in a beautiful location and light should have been accommodation. The smoked beef sandwich was anything but smoked and bread was dry. Staff brought in bills before we could even finish our meals. Expectation of hotel to have the guest pay a five star rate Staff connected roaming mobile, due to non availability of wifi resulting in charge of UKP 40 on roaming charges. The time, hassle and money spent in resoliving the issues. I had a headache at the end of it all. Never again.

Review 35:A place with childhood memories and beautiful location Thank god for having made the reservation of booking.com. The assistance from booking.com on Sunday (21 Jan) was very helpful. No

Review 36:1.The welcome drink, the hotel is better of not serving it.. 2. Long time taken for payment on checkout 3. No iron box in the room 4. Lack of choices (vegetarian) in the in room dining. But all of this can be ignored, given the good facilities at the hotel.

Review 37:We stayed at the Heritance Ahugalla at the last leg of our long journey, and it was the perfect place to rejuvenate ourselves before heading back to Dubai. The Hotel has very good facilities and friendly staff. The breakfast spread was excellent. The rooms are spacious, especially the suite with the sea view was amazing. Would certainly come back for a two night stay...

Review 38:Be prepared for the wonderful vista as you arrive at the entrance of the Heritance after a bumpy ride along the narrow clay road. From the open foyer, to the sweeping wings of the hotel, and large rocks that are incorporated into the building. Then of course is the wonderful view across the lake, particularly gorgeous when viewed across the infinity pool. The rooms are classic elegance from its era. Keep exploring & marveling as you wander through the hotel as each turn exposes new views. We ate at the restaurant & particularly enjoyed the Sri Lanka curry selection. The breakfast selection enormous , again we sampled the local offerings, hoppers, dhalls, curries & tropical fruits. Next time we will stay longer than 2 nights!

Review 39:Asking to close the sliding door of the balcony .

Review 40:Hotel is on the beach, planning of the hotel specially the swimming pools are well planned, comfortable room, food good quality for the money paid.

Review 41:Screwed me on the exchange rate. 10%. Not small.

Review 42:A wonderfull place with very good accommodations

Review 43:food is very expensive.

Review 44:beautiful hotel.

Review 45:Did not enjoy the buffet dinner and breakfast.

Review 46:Amazing Views and Excellent Service

Review 47:The food was not that great for the money paid.

Review 48:The surroundings and the beach.. The scenery was beautiful.

Review 49:The staff were a bit pushy on asking reviews online.

Review 50:The pool was very good. The room was clean and good.

Review 51:The staff were excellent, great service. The food was very good and the setting right on a beautiful beach was great.

Review 52:Staff so bad, 1hr for check in , half hour check out ,payment by dollar but balance return by Sri Lankan

Review 53:Nothing good I dont advise any

Review 54:Beatiful building

Review 55:Omega, Lassika and Anushka were very friendly!

Review 56:Service too slowly in both room service and hotel restaurants.

Review 57:Location excellent

Review 58:The smell at the one of the room.

Review 59:The location is great coparing to other hotels in bentota. The beach is clean. The rooms were opened to the garden.

Review 60:Locals harassing guests as soon as you step onto the beach. Beaches were dirty - with no one taking responsibility for their upkeep. Some staff were overly friendly while others were dismissive. Hotel store was limited and held no stock of chocolates or small treats that could also not be bought from the bar - this required going to 'town' store where you were again harassed by locals.

Review 61:Swimming pools and bar service.

Review 62:There was black flags between the hotel and the beach , when you cross them to walk on the beach you will face a sales men ! , they start asking where are u from .. Do u want safari , i havd a boat .. There is a jewerly shop u can come and see. . They keep bothering u !

Review 63:Everything in the hotel was perfect

Review 64:Poor maintenance, smelly room and dining room, a lot of noise from families with children, hotel for locals not for tourists, should get maybe 3 stars, not like the pictures

Review 65:Im bit concern about the buffe price. Conpaire to many hotels, less selections.

Review 66:Staff- Very helpfull , Propely Trained. Hotel- Best location In my next visit, looking foward to visit for more days. I can recomend to my familly and friends. Best holiday location i had for long time. I like to thank F&B manager / supevisor and all syaff for their service.

Review 67:The food, the restaurant dleaniliness, there is no finesse for a 5 star place. The bathtub was the shower as well. It was dangerously high and uncomfortable to get in and out of. There was no water at one point during a shower and the electricity kept going out. The staff did not offer any solutions nor any offers for a better stay. We got some biscuits and chocolates to make us feel better, a bitof an insult really. It was unacceptable!!

Review 68:Fantastic beach

Review 69:Unfortunately this is one if those hotels where people get up at dawn to save sun beds... And then don't use them for most of the day. The standard of the buffet was not great. This us a shame... I have stayed in this hotel before many years ago and I don't remember it like this at all. Overall pretty disappointing...

Review 70:The staff are very friendly however the service was not always great.

Review 71:The A le Carte restaurant had very slow service when there was special dinners on the beach not worth going. Touts on beach but not the hotels fault.

Review 72:smiling &happy staff good selection of buffet food live music every night good mix of sounds

Review 73:There was humidity and mold in the room, we could not stay in it! we had to change it! the other room was a bit better but in general its a problem in the hotel mold is covering the furniture and tables and it smells! there was no security and life guards we couldn't enjoy swimming in the ocean cause of the beach boys who were harassing all the time and begging for money! scary !

Review 74:Evening entertainment was very good. The swimming pools are big and good! great breakfast buffet, delicious food! friendly staff!

Review 75:Many areas need better upkeep and spiffing up Table tennis table and equipment in a very bad shape. Breakfast and Buffet spread and quality - below average Bicycles for rent were falling apart (I wonder if it was a hotel service or some staff doing it on side) Irritating touts on the beach that keep bugging anytime you step onto the sand Hotel charges 4 times the market price for boat rides up the river - which they outsource in any case US$ 30 per person when the market charges $25 for 3 persons. Bad exchange rates

Review 76:Marvelous architecture and layout Friendly , courteous staff Best french fries in the world :-) Great swimming pools

Review 77:no private beach, beach not accessible due to 'beach boys' poor gym with no a/c a shop with toileteries and international papers would be nice fabric on chairs (rooms and public areas) not clean nothing 'to do'

Review 78:nice rooms, very friendly people, silent swimming pool, good quality of food, nice premisses

Review 79:Bit high prices for country, restaurant prices need to be toned down.

Review 80:Good hotel design, luxurious, personable and very hospitable. Quiet, good for couples and honeymooners & weddings.

Review 81:Geckos and all other insects were found. The lighting was very poor inside the room. No vacuum in the bathroom causes bad smell inside the whole room. No bath robe. The safe box is very small where you cannot keep your laptop inside.

Review 82:Staff were excellent dealing and respecting guests. The beach view was so attractive, and the spa was extremely interesting.

Review 83:The food was good at breakfast but the bar menu was moderate, they seem to serve fries with everything. Should maybe give a side salad option!

Review 84:The staff were extremely friendly. Our children enjoyed the entertainment provided by the animators, the was a good variety of activities each day.

Review 85:Pathetic Room Condition - A.C didn't work! Had to wait for 45 mins for the room even when I checked in 2 hours after their check-in time! The food quality and choice wasn't good!

Review 86:Great location. Best pool.

Review 87:The room was very humid and dark and smelled like an ashtray, it was so bad we had to upgrade to a suite and pay $150 just to get a livable room. Food variety and quality in restaurant wasn't of a 5 start hotel standard. Transportation was overpriced. Every payment we had to pay we couldn't do at the reception and had to go to the cashier. Would not recommend it to anyone.

Review 88:*Structure of the hotel - Long winding corridors

Review 89:*It was full of life and activities *There was a vibrant feel to the hotel *The rooms are decent sized and have a good view *The pools are large and fun to swim in

Review 90:Could use bigger and better televisions in the rooms

Review 91:Attentive staff, good food, great value for money

Review 92:Overly expencive

Review 93:The pool

Review 94:fantastic, nothing to moan about :)

Review 95:everything

Review 96:A bit dated and better suited for "package" tourists

Review 97:The Staff are fantastic and the location.

Review 98:Very little!

Review 99:Great, helpful staff. Fantastic location, good room with a great view.

Review 100:Booking.com have us one price there were lots of hidden charges that added to 26%

Review 101:The rooms that are above the coffee shop grill are full of smoke - of grills in the eve and bacon in the morn... uugghhh

Review 102:Beautiful ambience

Review 103:anything is good , they did change my view on Sri Lanka
