Reviews for Tamaya Youth Hostel

Review 1:The place is old and tired and stuffed full of messiness. It's located on busy noisy road.

Review 2:It is just opposite the hot sand baths and has parking.

Review 3:The hostel is badly in need of an upgrade. I'm not certain what the policy is re the kitchen (which is very messy) I was allowed to put things in the fridge and warm food in the microwave but I'm not certain about proper cooking

Review 4:The manager is pleasant, speaks some English and is helpful. The dorms are clean with nice bedding. The hostel is opposite one of the sand baths

Review 5:Very poor shower facilities, very run down and dirty. Toilets and shared facilities need to have a good clean and the kitchen is a mess, would not want to use it. It's a shame as the rooms are really clean but every where else feels messy. The town is very run down and not much to do there, definitely don't need more than one night (we stayed for two). The hostel rule is that you can't be inside from 10-4 but we stayed in and no one told us differently, although think this may have been because we were the only ones staying. Would have been very unhappy if I'd paid for my room and not been able to use it during the day.

Review 6:Very good location next to the sand baths which were so relaxing. We actually used this to shower instead of using the hostel showers! We ordered the breakfast and weren't expecting much based on the state of the kitchen but it was actually very nice and fresh. The rooms are very clean, we saw this every morning when, even if they hadn't been slept in, they were opened up and vacumed.

Review 7:I think it is good for 1 night! The location is very great! It is right next to the Sand Bath, which is easy to locate. The breakfast is really delicious!!!! I highly recommend it!!

Review 8:No possibility to stay in the hostel between 10h-16h. No problem for us, but the weather got bad the next day and it caused the other guests to move.

Review 9:Good hostel with knowledgable host and good breakfast. Right opposite to the main attraction of Ibusuki. The beach walk makes for a nice evening/night walk.

Review 10:The kitchen was a bit messy and renovation of the bathroom would be good.

Review 11:When I was there, in May, It was really not busy, only 1 or 2 other people. There is no noise at night, it is a quiet town. Once I tried the Japanese breakfast they serve, it was good and filling.

Review 12:The staff were quite kind and accommodating, as I had suffered a pretty bad sprain on Kaimondake. I also recommend Kaimondake, but be very careful as the rocks are quite treacherous. The staff provided us with ice and a car ride to the hospital in the morning. We feel very grateful towards the staff. The hostel is also located right across from a sand bath and a bus stop, so it's quite convenient.

Review 13:It seems like an old building, so it was a little run down, but still clean and warm. There is no men's toilet on the floor with the bedrooms, so if you need the toilet in the night (and you're a man) you need to go downstairs.

Review 14:It's inexpensive, in a superb location right across the road from the sand bath, and it was warm and comfortable. The owner even offered to drive me to the ferry terminal in the morning, which was very kind.

Review 15:not thing

Review 16:Service is ok

Review 17:Very near to the public sand bath center.

Review 18:The sign is a bit too small and I spent extra time to locate the place.

Review 19:Good service and very close to the sand spa

Review 20:There seems to be a curfew at 9.30, but we didn't try. There is a shared bathroom, we did see it, this is why we didn't try.

Review 21:The famous sandbath just accross the street.I paid a bit more and got a big delicious dinner ( tongkatsu ) and good breakfast. The staff talks good english and gave me many useful information.

Review 22:The walls are thin. Definitely bring earplugs.

Review 23:The staff was very nice. They took us to the Yakushima Ferry the next morning free of charge. The breakfast was also delicious. It's conveniently located right next to the sand bath onsen and a nice cafe up top. It's a little bit of a walk from Ibusuki station, but once you get there, it's really nice.

Review 24:Staff is nice, but not interactive. Also the price is a little bit high compared to the facilities' quality

Review 25:Location, just opposite to the attraction

Review 26:A bit far from the train station

Review 27:Very friendly staff, even drove us to the train station when it rained heavily. The famous sand baths are across the street

Review 28:The building is a bit worn-down.

Review 29:Ideally located for Ibusuki's main attraction, the Saraku Sand Bath building (and other sand baths). Also, there's a bus station right outside with access to the train station and more distant attractions (try Healthy Land's outdoor bath!).

Review 30:While the location was ideal for Ibusuki itself, including the sand onsens, it was a little trek out from Kagoshima - over an hour on train or bus. However, the bus stop was 100m down the road and trains seemed to be regular, so even this was only a minor issue.

Review 31:The location was ideal for the local sand onsen facilities - literally across the road! The beds were also fantastically comfortable. Unfortunately we arrived just before going to sleep and left as soon as we got up, so I can't really comment any further on he facilities, but we had a friendly reception and tour on arrival and found the hostel to be comfortable, clean and characterful.

Review 32:Walls were quite thin.

Review 33:Great location right next to a hot spring and suna mushi.

Review 34:cheap and right across the street from the sand baths

Review 35:I was given a dormitory just for me! Friendly staff. Sand bathing just across the road.

Review 36:Japanese bath

Review 37:I had an allergic reaction to the bedding

Review 38:Good location. Friendly staff. Next to the sand onsen.
