Reviews for The Waterfront Hotel
Review 1:Great location;nice and friendly staff. Special thanks to the lady (forgot her name but short haired, blue eyed) that poured our coffee at the breakfast. Her smile made our day. Also Vida at the concierge was so helpful. We highly recommend this property, not just because of the location but for the staff also.
Review 2:Interior a little bit tired and old, but generally the room was clean. breakfast was poor
Review 3:Nice view on bay if you book hotel with seaview, good distance to nice restaurants and bars
Review 4:This hotel have the best stuff ever! Special BIG thanks to Alex - the receptionist who make our stay in Malta unforgettable!!! The managment of the hotel should be very proud that in their hotel work such a proffecional!!! Just because of the exellent servise i will recommend this property to all who wants to visit Malta!
Review 5:the hotel is located on a main road with two lanes per direction and it gets a bit noisy at times, the mini bar was empty and pool bar was closed 3 euros for a liter of water sounds a bit excessive
Review 6:i absolutely loved the view from the window and the small but sufficient balcony bed was comfy, decent room size, accommodating staff , central location
Review 7:Disappointed with the food. Breakfast not up to the standard I would expect from a 4 star rated hotel.trued evening meal on one occasion. Very poor choice. Seemed to be very short staffed. Could not on this basis recommend to others as a good base for holiday. Also very concerned that if you tried stairs instead of lift and went through wrong doorway door locked and you were unable to retrace your steps! What would happen in the event of a fire. The stair are inaccessible and unsafe
Review 8:It was nice having a view of the harbour and beautiful boats
Review 9:On the first night we were on the top floor the roof leaked and our room was flooded. Later that week the fire alarm accidentally went off in the middle of the night waking everybody up. Also the breakfast left a lot to be desired.
Review 10:Easy access to buses and ferry to get to Valletta and around the island
Review 11:Good location for water taxis to Valletta, near to main shopping and restaurants.Good friendly and helpful staff with a good choice for breakfast. Would highly recommend.
Review 12:I thought the dining area could have a change of foods for breakfast ,i.e omelettes, pancakes rather than the same each morning
Review 13:The location of hotel and staff were extremely helpful and great that in Malta you can converse in the English language
Review 14:For a 4* hotel, it is starting to look a little tired. On using the outside seating, coffee shop staff quite rude. Midnight closing of the bar seemed early whilst still in season and hotel full.
Review 15:Excellent position, very friendly and helpful staff on reception and in dining room. Breakfast, plenty of variety but watered down fruit juice and weak tea and coffee spoiled it a little.
Review 16:Location was further than anticipated from centre, extremely difficult for those with mobility problems. Total hotel bill was taken on arrival!
Review 17:Rooms, including public areas, were large, clean, bright, comfortable, as shown on website. Reception staff, particularly Alex, were very friendly and helpful.
Review 18:Air con was below par and lifts were hot and overcrowded - you weren't allowed to use stairs so had to wait to go up to one floor plus one broke down compounding the waiting time finally only a little thing but coffee at breakfast was pretty dire but had kettle in room which was a nice touch do able to manage
Review 19:View of the harbour and large room staff very helpful nice ambience to bar and cafe food ok
Review 20:Seems very popular with older/retired couples. Younger travellers may like to pick somewhere with a younger crowd.
Review 21:10 minute walk to Valletta ferries and hop-on/hop-off buses. Good for restaurants in Sliema. Had a room with balcony at the front of the property and great view overlooking Sliema harbour and Valletta which was worth the extra - other rooms open into a central atrium with no view. Pool area was pretty good, but pool is small.
Review 22:Breakfast in hotel was good with great choice, but the evening dinner was only very average. Buffet choice poor and hot food was not really hot enough.
Review 23:Cleanliness, location, helpful staff
Review 24:The only thing that could be improved upon is the bar. It's in the foyer and tends to be very warm in the evenings and it also closes pretty early.
Review 25:I liked the location in Sliema as it has fantastic views over to Valletta. The rooftop bar and pool area was fabulous and quiet. The buffet breakfast was excellent.
Review 26:Pool area small. Not enough umbrellas and rather uncomfortable sunbeds. Our bedroom was ok, we booked a seaview but we had a corner seaview with a very small balcony, was hoping for something better. Bed linen poor quality and pillows too. Lack of good size bath towels.
Review 27:Reception, bar area and cafe very pleasant and comfortable seating
Review 28:requested twin room as on holiday with friend. got double. first night we got camp bed then another single the next day
Review 29:friendly staff, very clean, excellent view from room. breakfast wide choice and refilled quickly.Fresh and tasty
Review 30:The hotel is old and nothing has been touch for years, the AC work only after the sunset till 06 a.m in the summer, when outside is 38 deg Very poor and old pool area , it's not for a 4 star hotel, but high price instead
Review 31:No airconditioning on first night, need to start a maintenence / refurbishment programe as it is starting to look tired.
Review 32:Friendly and helpful staff, great location, clean and spacious room, good food and beveridge service.
Review 33:Air conditioning in the room was quite weak. Tap water wasn't drinkable.
Review 34:Very central location within easy reach of all the tourist highlights. Beautiful facilities and view from the rooms
Review 35:Located in a very noisy area. Also the have some odd rule to shutoff the A/C in the whole building at 7am... how atrocious! This is a hot country and it over 35C during my visit, was suffocating int he room by morning!
Review 36:Great location and view
Review 37:One of the barman was a real grouch!!!
Review 38:The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful and courteous (except one of the barman). Great location with good sea views and nicely air-conditioned, the breakfast was a bit samey everyday but was plenty of it. Overall great value for money and we would most definitely go back there.
Review 39:We had a few issues but all were rectified swiftly by the management. It was great to experience such a professional approach to ensuring customer satisfaction.
Review 40:The location was super & parking was a great bonus. Having the bus outside was also beneficial. Staff were all great, very friendly. Breakfast was consistently good.
Review 41:None.
Review 42:A modern hotel with great views overlooking Sliema Creek and Valletta. The room had excellent facilities and great views from the balcony. The hotel also has free parking in the underground car park although spaces are limited.
Review 43:Air conditioning not up to scratch, dull lights in room, bathroom outdated. Don't like only being able to use lift to access all areas, stairs really should be optional! Very uncomfortable in lift especially when full. Very hot and if you don't like enclosed spaces, very worrying indeed!
Review 44:Breakfast,Location and staff.
Review 45:Breakfast was a bit poor for 4 star hotel. No sweets almost at all (I am a sweet person). The pool was very small.
Review 46:The hotel is great, perfect location, close to St.Julien and Valetta, from the hotel room and breakfast aria you can see amazing view to Valetta, sea, boats - just brilliant! Same view you can see from the wonderful terrace on the roof top!! Single room was very big, furniture was stylish, it was very clean. Staff was kind and great!
Review 47:The comfort of the beds and especially the pillows, however, could be improved, and although they had an excellent variety of choice for their breakfast, it would have been nice with some variety, as we ate there every morning!
Review 48:The staff was very friendly and helpful, and made sure we had a pleasant stay at their hotel! Moreover, our room was well equipped and spacious, and the cleaning was superb! I would give my warm recommendations to this hotel!
Review 49:Rooftop pool quite small and not enough shade.
Review 50:Good location for visiting Valletta and getting about island. Staff all friendly and wanted to help. Breakfast improved on our last day as they started serving tea and coffee at the table and not from a machine
Review 51:We found the pool closing times too early, especially on their bbq nights. Just when you return from a hot day of exploring, they close the pool. Wifi a bit unreliable. Breakfast was good, but most the fruit appeared soggy and unappetising. Overall, only minor complaints....but we think the staff should know.
Review 52:The staff went out of their way to ensure we were welcome and happy. They were friendly and helpful. Hotel is well located and clean and comfortable. Lovely views from the restaurant at breakfast and the roof top pool. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Review 53:Road outside very busy with some views of local businesses.
Review 54:Very good base for sight seeing close to ferry, buses and tour buses. Lovely pool area with views to Valletta. Very helpful staff.
Review 55:Reception didn't ask if I enjoyed my stay when checking out Porter not aware there was a fridge or mini bar Fridge took hours to get a little cool
Review 56:Nice room Good breakfast Pool
Review 57:We had one problem , when we checked in and went to our room ot had 2 singles and a camp bed , next morning I went to reception and explained it wasn't the room I had expected , the lady on reception was very understanding, and sorted the problem for me .
Review 58:Fabulous room overlooking the bay, staff on reception were very helpful , in fact any staff we met were very friendly and courteous
Review 59:The barman at the pool bar was a wee bit grumpy, but then I might have been if having to work all day in the heat!
Review 60:Great hotel, great location, staff were very friendly.
Review 61:not a complaint but, I did request a double bed but the room had 2 singles.
Review 62:Warm welcome, superb views from our room on the 7th floor, great breakfast and comfy room. Nice rooftop swimming pool and sunbeds brolleys and towels.
Review 63:Beautiful hotel. Very classy. Location was great. Near ferries and buses. Lots of cafes and restaurants (we also loved eating in the Waterfront restaurant) Given an upgrade by a lovely man at the desk. Restaurant, pool area and our room magnificent views!!
Review 64:There is nothing I didn't like!
Review 65:Good air conditioning, close to amenities, public transport very good. Breakfast was excellent with a great variety. Dinners were good quality food and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 66:Receptionist arranged a taxi to a wedding for us, then found that 3 couples were going to the same wedding, and having checked that we were all happy to share a taxi, arranged for us to share a 6 seater, saving us quite a lot of money.
Review 67:Not getting the room we booked, (seaview/double),instead we got a lateral seaview with single beds, although they did convert the bed into a double the next morning. Carpet on the floor. Quality of bedding. Very basic bathroom for 4* hotel. Being confrontedtby the hotels 'mission statement' every time we were waiting for the lift in rreception
Review 68:The view from our 5th floor room.Felt safe and secure. Fridge so we could chill our own water and drinks.
Review 69:Noise from a nearby fairground in the evenings which, of course, was totally outside the control of the hotel.
Review 70:The hotel was very clean overall, the maids made a very good and thorough job of the room. ALL the staff were very pleasant and polite, food was very good and a great sea view on Sliema waterfront.
Review 71:Very slow lift, made worse by there being no stairs apart from the fire escape: consequently more people were using the lift for very short journeys. When breakfast time had ended the dining room was locked: this kept people out - and locked in until a member of staff could be located. Had to re-log in to the wifi each time it was used.
Review 72:Close to ferry to Valletta Underground car park Helpful staff Reasonably spacious room.
Review 73:No stairs, unless you used the fire escape. From say 3rd floor to 2nd floor, you had to use the lift, which was sometimes slow in arriving. Didn't seem to do childs portions in dining rooms and set charge was excessive for a child
Review 74:Good breakfasts with plenty of choice Staff very helpful and friendly
Review 75:Not so especially good for bed, because the bed is so hard and Pillows are rather hard. The blanket is too thin. of wool too. You can not drink the tap water in the bath room. There are no snacks, drinks and wine/beer in the minibar, although this hotel is a four star hotel.
Review 76:The staff is consistently oncoming and helpful with information.
Review 77:- Check in is quite late - 2pm!- the hairdryers in the rooms are very outdated and pretty impractical, heat too fast and do not do the trick for women with long hair! The staff could not help with a manual one which made it rather difficult when leaving the hotel premises. - for a 4 star hotel of this location I would have expected much cleaner rooms! The bed sheets were okay, but the bathroom clearly had not been thoroughly cleaned (it was obvious the previous guest had shaved their beard in the sink!!!); the bathtub was not spotless cleaned and scented either and the towels did not smell fresh and clean with a few small stains here and there. Also, 4 star hotels usually offer a small bottle of shampoo at least. -the breakfast food was not the freshest (despite the good variety), nobody enjoys soggy fruit and veg that has clearly been our for a while. The coffee machine is rather horrible and automatic as well. - the rooftop terrace is a great idea with lounge beds for tanning, however the rooftop pool is VERY tiny and definitely not fit for laps or young people who would like to squeeze in a quick exercise in the morning. - the guests are predominantly elderly families and couples, which is okay with the exception of the karaoke in the lounge area every evening - tacky and can be off-putting for younger guests
Review 78:Location is excellent with a few bus stops right across the road, just astone throw away from the Valletta ferry and lots of restaurants aroundthe Sliema coastline. Excellent view from the terrace.-staff is friendly and helpful (they even put our twin beds together as we wanted a double bed during our stay but that was not possible). -The Malta literature and promotional leaflets in the lounge area are great for first-time visitors - long breakfast between 7am and 11am! which is excellent depending on whether you want to sleep in a bit or head out to see the sights early in the day - reception are very helpful with information about places to go, and can call a cab to the airport at a fixed price. In addition, we could leave our bags in the luggage storage after we checked out at 11am and go spend the last few hours sightseeing around Valetta which not many hotels do.
Review 79:Our room was next to a derelict building which had been smashed up. I didn't think it was particularly good value for money.
Review 80:Great location & views
Review 81:A bathroom in our room was a bit disappointing with a tight shower cabin and apparent molds. We booked a room with a double bed but it was not available when we arrived. Reception staff has argued that booked room was subject to availability inspite of clear confirmation in our booking.
Review 82:Good location with a short walking distance to the ferry connecting Sliema and Valetta, also departure points of various city-sightseeing and island excursions. A friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast choice.
Review 83:Senior staff were not very friendly and tended to boss. It is the first time we have ever had to pay for accommodation for the full two weeks on arrival...not the most welcoming experience!
Review 84:The view from the room. Very friendly serving staff and cleaners. After initial problems the wi fi was sorted.
Review 85:Food on the buffet menu each evening was very good and very reasonable at 18.50 - no need to go out in search of other restaurants. The views over Sliema Creek, across to Valetta and out to sea from our room were excellent. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the garage provided free parking.
Review 86:Old food in mini-bar fridge from previous guests, also a marshmallow was found on the floor. Hotel advised parking available - they have 5 spaces and are in an incredibly busy area. 10 minute walk from nearest parking space on all occasions. Very poor choice at breakfast for a Vegetarian.
Review 87:Comfortable Bed
Review 88:The en suite could do with an upgrade and 2 key cards for a couple would be a help
Review 89:Staff were very friendly and efficient, facilities were very good and the location was excellent. Our room, on the third floor was very quiet and very comfortable
Review 90:Beds too narrow with poor standard of matress for this 4 star hotel. What appeared to be the head waitress at breakfast was grumpy when informed I wanted to pay for my visiting daughter and son in laws breakfast as she had closed the till.
Review 91:Location and facilities. Cleansiness of the establishment and great view of the bay!
Review 92:Some of the breakfast staff weren't as helpful as the people on reception. Breakfast could have been better for a 4 star hotel.
Review 93:The location of the hotel over looking the yachts is good. Gave a great view from my room.
Review 94:Room with a wonderful water view! View across to Valetta! Friendly pleasant staff! Dinner and breakfast excellent! Warm and inviting atmosphere! The hot chocolate is to die for
Review 95:Be careful about renting a car through them. High prices and lied about value of deal - book car rental online - even if its a day ahead.
Review 96:Helpful, friendly, excellent breakfast, good rooms with lovely view. A very welcome place to come back to.
Review 97:The bed was too soft, the heating was on at night so we used to get up lots of times at night. We called reception but they say the air conditioning doesn't work during the winter and the heating was central so had to stay on. In the end we used to sleep with the terrace door opened but the noise was awful all night.
Review 98:Location was great, the views are stunning, absolutely amazing.
Review 99:Altough I order and PAID for a double bed sea view room, I got 2 single beds room with sided sea. The answer of the reception was that all the double bed rooms are occupied and there is nothing to do. No compansation was given. Rooms are old and poor and sheets aren't cleaned. I will never get back to this hotel.
Review 100:Nothing. Just the location.
Review 101:There is nothing what I didn'tlike.
Review 102:The hotel has aagood location . Easy to start running around. Cleanlines to godliness. Well- done.!!! Friendly staff at your service any time. Breakfast tasty for all needs. Even for me who have stomach problems. A gorgeous view on the bay.
Review 103:well.. it may not be a luxury hotel, and the room is a bit outdated and sure requires a renovation, BUT if you ask (and get) a room on the top floor, with a sea view, you'll find a large room with all the facilities you need, and even more, and an ASTONISHING panoramic view of the old town of Valletta and the sky-blue water of the bay with all it's ships. Add this to the fact that breakfast is quite rich and diverse, and wifi is free (with a strong signal) throughout the hotel – and You'll find Waterfront hotel as the ideal place for your vacation in Malta.
Review 104:Traffic noise, but that is nothing to do with hotel, caused by Maltas ever increasing car population
Review 105:Position of hotel, handy for bus and boat services, good size room, evening meals good food and good value, excellent breakfast with plenty staff attending to tables, good choice also, all in all first class
Review 106:The grapefruit juice at breakfast; it was like water every day. The orange though, tasted good. Toasters - very weak, like many hotels'
Review 107:Views from Balcony. Breakfast foods are generally good and tasty.
Review 108:Hardness of pillows - but these were changed to softer ones on request Extremely tired bathroom - rotten wood at bottom off door frame
Review 109:Basilico Restarant staff and food Breakfast menu was very good - lots of choice Sun rise on the balcony each morning
Review 110:Having to use the lift to travel between floors. Stairs are not accessible except in case of emergency.
Review 111:An ideal location to explore the island of Malta, with convenient and frequent bus connections to most places within a few minutes walk. Airport bus stops just across the street. Rooms are spacious and well-furnished. Bistro restaurant serves a good range of meals at reasonable prices. Nice little cafe on ground floor for tea and cakes. Extensive breakfast buffet. Staff are very polite and most helpful; attentive without being bothersome.
Review 112:Road very noisy from early morn. Electricity workers drilling outside room until 2.40am and from 3.15am (not hotel problem, I know). Paid bill night before early departure, but guy on reception said we had bill to pay, seemed very inefficient and said he couldn't check. Showed him our receipts and he just shrugged and said ok. Food not great in bar.
Review 113:Beautiful room, very clean, lovely views. Nice lounge area with plenty of seating. Convenient to transport, shops, restaurants. Very good breakfast buffet.
Review 114:old hotel; you need to pay on the day of the check in immediatelly; if you order a taxi via the hotel reception, you pay 2 euro extra; WiFi was in the evennings overloaded / no connection; if you want the sea view (to the main street), than you have the noise of the traffic; for business (whole day away) OK, for leisure better not!
Review 115:TVs need to be updated - very old fashioned. We had trouble maintaining reception
Review 116:Comfortable slightly old fashioned style hotel - extremely helpful staff at the front and bars - excellent breakfast.
Review 117:Ordered a double bed but none immediately available. Receptionist not helpful. Fairly tired decor Wifi required continual log in
Review 118:Central location Some helpful staff Free wifi Handy cafe
Review 119:Poor check in procedure. Travelling in a group, all the rooms were allocated incorrectly and it took ages to sort out - disappointing given the careful planning ahead of time. Check out was likewise challenging as we had a different receptionist and had to go through it all again. Breakfast was poor quality, appalling coffee and no tea.
Review 120:Location
Review 121:Old model TV, a small channel selection, worn furniture, poor toilet - no shampoo, conditioner and lotion, in the bathroom drainage problems (room 314).
Review 122:Location of hotel very good, our room was large, clean and comfortable, nice view from balcony on the beach.
Review 123:The Hotel is easy to get to from the airport and sits nicely on the waterfront. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel restaurants were great, serving good meals for good value.
Review 124:Malta in general was not as impressive as other locations for a two day holiday. Perhaps a bit unfair given we did only stay only a short stay
Review 125:Room was large and comfortable would certainly recommend it to others.
Review 126:the room facilities were very cheap and without any taste. the mattresses were much too soft. the bathroom was very poor. the room had not much in common with the images shown at booking.com the breakfast also had not much to do with a 4 star hotel.
Review 127:the staff was very friendly. the location of the hotel and the view from the room were good.
Review 128:Road is a dragstrip at night. Room air-con and bar fridge doesn't get cold enough. No a/c in lift. Pool ridiculously closes 2hrs before sundown (should be open till 10pm). Have to re-log-on to wifi every single time you change rooms, and often log-in was inactive tho the server was visible. Long way from swimming beaches. Stinky Non-Smoking rooms with ashtrays in room and smokers on the balconies. People that sit in the Lobby and stare...what country are you from?
Review 129:Convenient location to public transport. Nice tho small pool. Better than average Breakfast. Good view from room and pool towards Valletta. Reasonable price. Very decent size bedroom and bathroom. Would stay again.
Review 130:Being moved from out hotel after travelling all day15 hours, only to be moved to a lower class room at another hotel. After speaking to the manager at the hotel 3 days later he did his best to fix things. We appreciate his effort before that no one had apologled.
Review 131:Quite room Lovely girl in coffee shop Joseph the porter all the staff good learn from him. He was polite friendly and very helpfully he was a shiny star.
Review 132:Could not find any deckchairs where to stay near the pool
Review 133:The service was excellent and the staff was very helpful , the room was very nice and very clean also the breakfast was delicious
Review 134:Slightly overpriced. The bathrooms are not supplied with toiletries or dressing gowns. Wi-Fi kept cutting out. Old fashioned TV. Although facilities in the hotel public areas for persons with reduced mobility are excellent, the rooms could do with some minor upgrades such as wider doors to facilitate wheel chairs or walkers and grab handles. Suggest some rooms adapted with programmed electronic door openers. Although the main entrance has good access suggest electronic door openers for the mobility impaired.
Review 135:Very clean. Comfortable rooms with plenty of cabinet and drawer space. Large balconies. Excellent service, helpful and friendly staff. For a medium sized hotel the facilities where excellent. Well located. Good food, good bar, excellent breakfast. Good garage facilities.
Review 136:No so good with sound-proofing, could hear noise and talks from neighboring rooms.
Review 137:We had a sea-view room. And the sight of harbor and old Valetta from the window really valued it!! A variable and delicious breakfast. A nice pool and sun-deck on the upper floor with beautiful overview and nice bar. Staff was very attentive and helpful, gave a very useful information regarding travelling around and getting to other cities.
Review 138:Loo didnt flush well. Shower could have been better. Senior man at reception provided wrong information regarding situation of a restaurant which was very unhelpful.
Review 139:Very central. Lovely room - balcony and great view. Breakfast very good in lovely dining room with. Lovely wee swimming pool on roof
