Reviews for Hotel San Giorgio
Review 1:The bedroom of the sea facing deluxe rooms are at the top of a staircase. Not really suitable for people with reduced mobility or who need to get up in the night to visit the bathroom which is on the lower level.
Review 2:Helpful staff
Review 3:The hotel posted all my credit card details on line, causing my credit card to be cancelled. They required us to wait at Fiumicino airport for two and a half hours to be picked up by the hotel shuttle bus. This was to accommodate the later arrival of two more guests. We had paid 100 euros for this service.
Review 4:Convenience to the Cruise Terminal. The cost of the hotel included a free shuttle bus to the ship. The restaurant provided an excellent evening meal, and the lady who served us was delightful.
Review 5:Location is now not near the pick up point for cruise shuttles as the port moved it to the other end of the port. Hotel provides local shuttle but at a cost.
Review 6:Near the railway station and plenty of eateries nearby. Good views from the front rooms.
Review 7:The lobby smells like a sewer and after asking how much a phone to call to Monaco would cost and being told 50c per minute, I was charged 15 euros ($22.00) for a call that was only 1 min or 2 at most, a total rip off I thought
Review 8:It was convenient being between the railway station and the cruise docks in Civitavecchia and the breakfast was very good.
Review 9:It is a beautiful hotel with so much charm and character. Had a wonderful dinner and the breakfast buffet was exceptional. All the employees we're nice and helpful.
Review 10:We felt taken advantage of in the hotel restaurant. We looked at the prices on the menu and felt the prices were okay for a nice dinner. We were offered freshly caught local fish and were excited to sample the local fare. With most menu items being around 18 euros we were shocked to find out the fish my husband and I shared was 105 euros. My husband also asked to sample a local beer. That surprise cost us 22 euro. Our mistake for not checking first and asking more questions but it never crossed my mind that we could possible be charged that much when nothing on the menu suggested those kind of prices. An entire bottle of wine was only 16 euro, how could one bottle of beer by 22 euro? Yes, we should have asked and verified but I was disappointed they were not more forthcoming with their prices. We paid the bill and learned a costly lesson but we felt taken advantage of and it left of bad impression of the entire hotel for us. Dinner shouldn't cost more than the price of the room!
Review 11:The location was great. It was close to the port, we were going on a cruise, and it was close to the train station, we were spending a few days in Rome before the cruise. The room was a nice size and the price was good. A very nice breakfast was included with the stay. Wifi was free but very slow and you had to ask for a password every day and for each device.
Review 12:Was charged for items I did not purchase. When I discovered it bill could not be corrected. Did give me euros but still had to pay exchange fee. Location to town not good.
Review 13:The breakfast was better then some other places we stayed in Europe but still not great.
Review 14:The location was not only convenient to the cruise we were taking the next day but beautiful right along the water! The room we got was very spacious and clean. I love the high ceilings and big window. Plenty of good restaurants and bars in the area and shopping is a short walk away as well.
Review 15:Having to ask for an individual internet code for each device. The room was the smallest I ever stayed in and so was the bed. No tissues in the bathroom.
Review 16:Personnel is very nice and accomodating. Restaurant food is very good and reasonably priced. Very nice shower. Perfect organizations of both shuttles from FCO and to the cruise ship.
Review 17:When we went to check in, they told us they didn't have any rooms available and were putting us in a comparable hotel down the street. After checking into the other hotel, we returned to San Giorgio two hours later to ask a question and they were checking people into rooms at the front desk. We asked to see the manager and were told he was unavailable. Other hotel was not anywhere near as nice and also charged a cheaper rate. We didn't get a rebate. We believe this happened because they contacted with a large cruise line in port and bumped individual reservations. We talked to several other couples who had the same experience.
Review 18:I wished the bar room stayed open longer. But in all everyone was helpful and accommodating and we really appreciated this.
Review 19:I liked that the shuttle was waiting for us at the airport ready to take us to our hotel which was 1 hour away. We appreciated this after our on flight from Los Angeles.
Review 20:Once you got past the entrance area, the place was tatty and much in need of some attention. We asked for a room with minimum wlking but once out of the lift it was a hike through paint peeling corridors to the room. Once in the room, we discovered that about 30 percent of the carpet was soaking wet as if there had been a recent flood. On reporting this to the manager on duty, he seemed fairly uninterested and said he would send a man up. There was no suggestion that he miht come himself or of another room. Eventually two men arrived with a pile of towels which they distributed about the wet carpet and left. They did bring two pairs of complimentary, plastic slippers which they said would keep our feet dry. At checkout the next morning there was no apology or compensation, just a curt accknowledgement of our payment and assistance from the geriatric porter to get the lift to the street working. If you are going tto Civitavecchia, I would stay somewhere else.
Review 21:The entrance hall was very up narket and the geriatric porter was as helpful as he could be. As my wife is wheelcchairdependant the existance of a lift was very welcome.
Review 22:The internet didn't work in my room - neither by wifi nor by cable. I had some difficulty getting the manager to recognise that there was a problem.
Review 23:Location & public rooms excellent. Nice breakfast
Review 24:- the lobby had no air conditioning so we were very hot waiting for our room around 45min - we bought bottled water from the front desk - just a customer service thought ... If guests are hot waiting for a room for almost an hour maybe a courtesy bottle of water would be appropriate. - The shower head was a mess it either came out really hard through a small opening or spurted a weak drizzle all over the place. After a long flight we just wanted a nice shower and did not get one here. - The bathroom (bathtub) needed updating. Bath curtain didn't seem clean so left it out of the tub so water was everywhere. - the beds were very hard and small - stained carpet - just an older hotel - small room needs updating but it's the norm for Europe.
Review 25:The staff was professional ... The breakfast was very nice and the dining room setting was bright and fresh and very pretty ... The location was great for those going on a cruise ... Great air conditioning in the room.
Review 26:Had room with mezzanine bedroom. The room was very tatty- carpets stained and faded downstairs. Sleeping upstairs we didn't get the benefit of the air-conditioning. Wifi in the room didn't work very well at all.
Review 27:Location for the beach and exploring the town. Great for access to Ferries. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea
Review 28:Steps from street to main lobby level make it difficult to enter hotel with luggage. Tips for travelers: Have one individual go to front desk and ask for assistance with luggage, Porter is available. If you carry your own luggage into hotel, use doors next to revolving door.
Review 29:Located about 300 meters from the cruise port makes this hotel an ideal place to stop before or after cruising to/from Cittavecchia. Excellent accommodation.
Review 30:The hotel needs a complete revamp. We upgraded to a split level room with a view. The balcony was okay although the plants were dead and there was no shade. Our shower leaked and we had a flood ever time we showered. I would strongly advise if you are picking up a cruise take a shuttle from Rome.
Review 31:Location
Review 32:The breakfast could have offered more.
Review 33:A nice town and a good place to stay before or after a cruise. It is located next to the port and offer a shuttle service to the cruise ship. It is also close to Rome Airport. We caught a train from Rome which takes about 50 minutes. Prebook a seat. The station is 100 metres from the hotel. But, there is no lift and of course, the tracks are not on the same level as the pavement. There is a nice village close by.
Review 34:Staff tried to short change me at checkout paying for minibar purchases. Thankfully i realized my change was no euros but russian rubles worth a 10th! Swimming pool staff shouted at us for not wearing a swimming hat although the local italians were happily swimming without one. One rule for some and another for everyone else
Review 35:Very littler
Review 36:Beautiful hotel, right on the water. Offers a shuttle service from airport and also to the cruise port. Perfect for what we were looking for. Price is very competitive.
Review 37:If I were to change 1 thing perhaps the mattress could be more plush.
Review 38:We Loved your hotel....felt at home as soon as we walked in. Staff was very friendly and accomodating! The breakfast was outstanding!!!Will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family!!
Review 39:Lovely hotel by the train station. We stayed one night with an early start so can't speak to breakfast o facilities but we got a great night's sleep and the staff were very helpful.
Review 40:I don't like the stile of the room. I took a deluxe room but it was the same of the other room in first floor, so in my opinion it is more a standar room and not deluxe. It was very hot and very dark with mochette very old and the bad was up the stairs where was very very hot. Also when I took the shawer, the whater took off by the bathtub and the floor of the bathroom was often wet.
Review 41:I liked very much the terrace where the breackfast was served. The sea is in front of it. It is gorgeous like the breakfast too.
Review 42:the staff needs a little brushing up with their customer service. iam not really sure why this hotel is a 4 star when the hotel and the staff doesnt deserve that
Review 43:near the train station, the port, and the beach, the breakfast has variety and the views from the breakfast room is amazing
Review 44:Didn't like room with loft, waste of space and money to pay extra for it. Would definitely book Seaview room as others not very inspiring. Decor a little dated and could do with an update. Stairs up to reception difficult for bringing up luggage, as is revolving entry door.
Review 45:Breakfast was good.
Review 46:For the price paid should of had free wi fi through out the hotel other hotels we had stayed in throughout our travels all offered free wi fi and weren't as expensive
Review 47:Stayed only one night as a pre cruise stopover place was well located to the entrance of the port and had a comfortable feel to it
Review 48:Loved the food, just a few little glitches at dinner but it was very good and the fresh fish was excellent. The porter and dining room staff were lovely and helpful. It was all rather great,, just a few little glitches. Also it was too warm in the dining room at dinner but it was a heat wave while we were there a few weeks ago.l We would stay here again!!
Review 49:Breakfast was the best ever. Nice van ride to the ship. Pretty pretty hotel.
Review 50:Not really a bad experience, but we did find the cost in the restaurant was rather high for some dishes.
Review 51:Excellent friendly & helpful staff (particularly so in trying to sort out our lost luggage by Alitalia, which was never found despite all the exhaustive help from Alessandro) Ideal situation & the hotel transfer from airport was very comfortable and free transfer to cruise terminal a bonus.
Review 52:Staff were very helpful, accommodation and dinner was good. For a small charge, transport was provided to the port and the staff took care of all the luggage.
Review 53:Disonesty. Very bad breakfast. Bijzonder slecht ontbijt!
Review 54:De locatie is perfect. Perfect location ... For the rest it is a missed opportunity in every way!
Review 55:This hotel is a major avoid, with its familiar scam. This works asfollows: an email from the hotel just hours before arrival advising E.G.that heavy rains have made some rooms unusable; a choice offered betweena refund and a booking in another hotel (no choice at all given theimportance of having a confirmed room prior to a cruise departure); andbooking us in the out-of-town Hotel Brizi, a much cheaper hotel. Manychecks with locals confirmed no heavy rains at all. Six other cruisepassengers affected, all upset. In our case, a threat to call the policealleging that we were recording our conversation with the hotel manager(not true) and so breaking Italy's privacy laws. This might havethreatened our cruise, so we 'gave in'. Avoid. Avoid.
Review 56:Read the small print before you go . Website mentioned that hotel offered shuttle bus to the port. When we arrived, the receptionist advised us of the shuttlebus and also that it cost 10 euros each. As it turned out the hotel was within walking distance of the port gate where you get a free shuttle bus to take you to your ship. Also there was a charge for wifi connection. Hotel fine but would have expected more for price paid.
Review 57:Convenience/location. We were going on a cruise the next day and hotel was within walking distance of port. Convenient for restaurants.
Review 58:Location was ideal for exploring the town and near the railway station for trips into Rome. View from the breakfast room was outstanding. Breakfast was very good with a lot of variety. Lots of restaurants nearby for lunch and dinner.
Review 59:Wheelchair accessible shower would flood the bathroom everytime we took a shower.
Review 60:We were very happy it was so close to the train station. It is also right on the waterfront with lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Very enjoyable. The breakfast was very good.
Review 61:The breakfast was basic. The bathroom was outdated, and could do with a refurbishment.
Review 62:The hotel is in an ideal position for the cruise terminal and the train station for Rome. The staff we very helpful, efficient and friendly. The hotel has an air of "faded elegance", maybe not to everybody's taste, but we liked it.
Review 63:We see a family of 4 and I'm the family room we had to share the sofa bed which wasn't very comfortable. A single sofa bed with a pull put would have been better for the kids and then we could have slept I upstairs.
Review 64:We liked the helpful staff and the easy shuttle service to the port. The building and breakfast room were very nice and the location.
Review 65:Kind of small and slightly dated, but overall very good.
Review 66:Great location for town and waterfront. Only 5 minutes away by car to cruise terminal. Good breakfast and wifi.
Review 67:The very tiny shower stall.......
Review 68:Proximity to port, and train station and accessibility to Rome, many restaurants in Civitavecchia, daily buffet breakfast, very clean facility, helpful staff, reasonable price for shuttle to the port
Review 69:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 70:The location was superb, the view from the room was outstanding and I can't say enough about the staff, they were so courteous and efficient. Way much more than I expected.
Review 71:old hotel, some maintenance required, cost of room compared to other areas visited in area is high due to ship departure location. Having said that it was a wise decision to stay in the area and relax the day before ship departure
Review 72:Location to shipping departure
Review 73:The beds were a little too firm but then they were in most places we stayed in Italy.
Review 74:We discovered the Hotel as we had stayed at another Hotel two doors down just prior to a 12 day cruise. The beach town feel of Civitavecchia appealed to us so actually came back to stay in Civitavecchia after the cruise and a two week road trip through southern Italy. We ended our vacation with a couple of days by the ocean at Hotel San Giorgio and we weren't disappointed! P.S. The air conditioning worked perfectly and best of all, wasn't noisy as most are. The location to both the Port and the train station are great!
Review 75:The hotel arranged for our transportation from Rome airport to the hotel. It was terrible - passengers were frightened as the woman drove the van at 140 kph while talking on her phone and passing all other vehicles. I asked her to slow down but was ignored. The contractor providing the transportation was Concordia? Do not use this contractor!! Our room was on two levels with a staircase. Bedroom upstairs, bathroom downstairs - avoid this arrangement.
Review 76:Hotel was well located facing the beach and close to restaurants. The common areas of the hotel were nice. The staff was very good.
Review 77:Customer service was excellent Rooms were well appointed. Our room with a beautiful view Excellent stay as we were heading off on a cruise the next day. Wished we had booked to stay for one more night at the end of the cruise. Fantastic meal and breakfast was also included with good buffet selection.
Review 78:They need to keep your car key if you want to use their parkingspace behind the hotel. They let you know after you have paid..
Review 79:Excellent Restaurant and Location.
Review 80:Annoyed because arrived on late running Grimaldi ferry from Barcelona to find our pre-reserved parking space was not available for over an hour. Also could not get a drink in bar at 11.30pm. Customer service not a top priority.
Review 81:Good breakfast in nice rooftop location.
Review 82:I would have placed the master bed on the ground floor with the bathroom, but I suppose there is a safety consideration for small children sleeping upstairs. It's a big room, we were only having an overnight stay, however if staying longer there is insufficient Storage for 4 people and they would most likely need to live partially out of suitcases.
Review 83:Loved the location, appearance and ambiance of the hotel. We had the mezzanine room, the concept is excellent, and provides plenty of space of all four of us in complete comfort. Great bathroom too. excellent for a short stay (eg joining a cruise ship).
Review 84:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 85:A perfect hotel, ideally situated. Close to the town for an evening meal, and just a short walk away from the train station for access to Rome
Review 86:restaurant recommended were very expensive and standard of food below basic
Review 87:we were booked for a cruise so it was close to the port- our room was quiet breakfast was basic but lovely
Review 88:Restaurant staff not knowledgeable of food or service. OK attitude.
Review 89:Ambiance and location Clean Modern bathrooms Proximity to port Proximity to waterfront
Review 90:Contrary to what some people are saying, you cannot walk to your cruise. It is way too far. Pool is not part of the hotel but at shared location outside, 5 minute walk. Room was below average and second bed (hide a bed) of poor quality.
Review 91:Good localisation prior to leaving on a cruise.
Review 92:We are fit but travellers who have problems with stairs should check which room they have as some have spiral stairs up to the sleeping area.
Review 93:It is a ferry terminal hotel and as such we were comfortable, and enjoyed a good dinner.
Review 94:Very ordinary in all aspects including the meals at night. Only one good thing is the hotel is very near bus stop which travels to the cruise terminal and costs only a little bit, hence no need to rely on the transport provided bg the hotel which is not cheap
Review 95:Dated decor in the room No pool only use of public pool.
Review 96:Friendly welcome Good shower and nice bathrooms. Decent breakfast with great views over the coast. Excellent location for cruise terminals.
Review 97:HOTEL IS CLOSE TO THE PORT. STAFF WAS VERY HELPFULL IN CHANGING A ROOM THAT HAD STAIRS EVEN THOUGH WE HAD ORIGINALLY REQUESTED IT. RESTAURANT & BAR WERE VERY GOOD
Review 98:Telling us that various dinners and coach nearly fully booked when dinner was far from that although an excellent meal
Review 99:Close to beach and activities transport to port was provided at extra cost
Review 100:Check in and out was a lengthy procedure. The food at the hotel was expensive so we ate our meals at the lovely outdoor cafes on the sidewalk out in front of the hotel. They served great food at a reasonable price.
Review 101:The location was great. The hotel had a shuttle to our cruise ship which was door to door. Very convenient. The room was quiet, as requested. Clean and comfortable.
Review 102:The location was ideal. We flew in the day before a cruise and the hotel arranged a shuttle to the port which was only 10 minutes away. The Staff was very nice and helpful except with restaurant choices - they only wanted us to eat there. The rooms were large (for Europe standards).
Review 103:When we asked them to pick us up at the ship they charged us 30 euros for a 2 mile drive. When we arrived they refused to take the American Express card that I had reserved the room with on Booking.com------and said go to a bank and get Euros-----finally I convinced them to take my MasterCard. Room was quite ordinary and food was horrible and way over priced. After one meal we ate elsewhere in the city. Very noisy wedding in top floor kept us up until midnight and after as they cleaned by moving heavy tables. Their is no pool as they utilize a public pool across the street that charges 5 euros to everyone including hotel guests. Beaches are rocky but townspeople are nice. Our bill was 428 euros for two nights so they price like a 4 star hotel but I would rate it a 2 star at best.
Review 104:location near port and train station
Review 105:The receptionists were great. The location is very close to the Train station so it is easy to get anywhere. We had a sea view which was great.
Review 106:Carpets in room were sun burnt and beds were hard but did their purpose.
Review 107:Staff was courteous.
Review 108:Excellent situation...very helpful staff
Review 109:Rain
Review 110:Food
Review 111:Very convenient for station and cruise port. As solo traveller felt safe. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good choice for continental breakfast.
Review 112:Hotel mini bus to airport expensive .
Review 113:It is very near train station with shuttle to cruise port.
Review 114:Check out 10h! Too early when going on a cruise at 13h! Poor shower.
Review 115:Close to train station
Review 116:N/A
Review 117:Location, prompt airport pickup, room with a view of the Mediterranean, great breakfast, nice bathroom, very nice people at the front desk..
Review 118:Poor service and bar closed
Review 119:very small rooms.uncomfortable bedding.
Review 120:Beautiful building
Review 121:Breakfast was very poor. Highly expensive for what it is. Not a 4 star at all in my opinion.
Review 122:good location for overnight before a cruise
Review 123:Friendly staff and room was available early as soon as we arrived. The included breakfast was really nice.
Review 124:Very helpful staff, excellent location. The breakfast was outstanding!
Review 125:Location and dinner at the restaurant.
Review 126:Nothing
Review 127:Every thing was to our satisfaction
