Reviews for Maria Giovanna Guest House

Review 1:Sometimes we could hear the clock chiming at night from downstairs since we were on the first floor, however this is subjective.

Review 2:We stayed in room 5. Extremely clean, lovely antique decor, welcoming reception, very helpful and friendly staff. More like four star! We will definitely visit again.

Review 3:Friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast was superb with a choice of heavenly cakes and English Breakfast. Very clean room and comfortable bed. They also have a lift which makes it very comfortable to take the luggage to your room. Will definitely be going again.

Review 4:The Maria Giovanna is an outstanding guest house in every way. The warmth and friendliness of the hotel management is exceptional. The comfort, cleanliness and location excellent. The continental/cooked breakfast provided is the perfect start to the day. For a memorable stay on Gozo, I recommend the Maria Giovanna wholeheartedly and unreservedly.

Review 5:This is one of the best B&B we have ever stayed in world wide!!! Exceptionally clean! Fabulous breakfasts, made to order plus homemade goodies! Our room had a side sea view from the balcony. The B&B was easy to get to from the ferry, bus #322, bus stop within 30 second walk of the guest house. Lots of restaurants within a 1 min walk! We absolutely loved Gozo will definitely be returning to the Maria Giovanna Guest House for our next visit!

Review 6:No facilities for making a drink in the room and no TV or video facilities. It was adequate but there were no frills. A bit noisy with traffic noise in the morning. No sea view

Review 7:The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The shower was excellent. Air con provided

Review 8:there's nothing I didn't like!

Review 9:Loved the little touches the owners thought of - a trunk of beach towels to borrow, a basket of suncream and bits and bobs to use that other guests had left behind, cute little garden to use, lovely breakfast - thank you!

Review 10:Smart, stylish, clean, excellent breakfast. Very good position in the resort - but the downside of that is road noise on a Saturday night. Otherwise an excellent place to stay.

Review 11:No tv in the room. If there was it would have been perfect, especially in the winter months.

Review 12:Not a speck of dust anywhere. Perfectly clean. Breakfast cooked as you like it. And the pastries to die for. Staff super friendly. Very pleasant environment. Will go again.

Review 13:can't live longer

Review 14:Near Bay, Breakfast rich and fresh, Host friendly and considerable, wifi fast and stable, spacious room for family and a balcony that part of sea view can be enjoyed. High ratio quality-price for a family room

Review 15:Noisy bed, outside noise, people coming in late and banging of suitcases. Old property and quite dusty. A thorough clean through is needed

Review 16:Proximity to beach.

Review 17:As a B&B would have been nice to be offered a tea/coffee on arrival - no facilities in rooms. Ask for a room/suite closest to the beach as traffic near main road can be disturbing early morning.

Review 18:Closeness to beach and esplanade. All staff extremely friendly. Breakfast home cooked with cakes. A good supply of books to read. Seeing the salt pans - reasonable proximity

Review 19:If they can invest in tv's for the shoulder months & room safes will be a plus.

Review 20:That family touch makes a different, next time will stay longer. Definitely we will be back.

Review 21:- Central location close to the see, but too laud (mostly because of traffic noise) - Very small room: almost fitting the double bed, only

Review 22:- Very clean - Friendly owners - Home-made and quality breakfast

Review 23:What"s not to like.

Review 24:This is a pure gem, just a few meters from the promenade. Family run by 2 sisters, with the help of the Dad. All very friendly and helpful. Wonderful experience for us.

Review 25:we found it very comfortable and very relaxing, it was walking distance to beach , and all restaurants , breakfast was great and the owners really make you welcome . Will be back again , thank you

Review 26:Small room and poor breakfast without fresh vegetables and coffee expresso. I didn't understand why they want additional payment for the expresso at the breakfast.

Review 27:Perfect location and comfortable bad.

Review 28:Guest house situated in narrow street, no view; minimum privacy in balcony.

Review 29:Very friendly staff; breakfast prepared there and then to order; good choice of breakfast. Clean and comfortable accommodation.

Review 30:Everything was great.

Review 31:Anna was very kind and welcoming. The breakfast was fantastic! The b&b is literally less than a 1 minute walk to the beach. Book a reservation right now!

Review 32:The breakfasts were amazing, and nothing was too much trouble. This is a true family business run by a lovely family. And SO close to the sea! Excellent wifi.

Review 33:Would have like a TV in the room.

Review 34:The owners and staff are very welcoming and constantly asking if you need any help. Very helpful when help is sought and they make sure that you have a pleasant stay. Breakfast superb including cooked breakfast at no extra charge.

Review 35:There is a pub right outside and it is open "until late" so be prepared for some noise during the night. Bring earplugs.

Review 36:Its has a great location. The rooms are clean, comfortable with modern bathrooms. The owners are lovely and polite. The breakfast was delicious with home baked cakes and lots of fruits.

Review 37:We were so amazed with the hospitality and with the owners. The whole family made our stay so nice that we definetly would come back and would reccomend it to the others. The room was great and with special eye for details.The.position was great as it was 2mins from the beach. We will definetly remember the place and thanx again from Montenegro!

Review 38:Very noisy from the street, had a hard time sleeping well. We were in room no 1, which is on the corner of 2 streets, one of them very busy in the early morning. We could hear also the people talking in the street even with the windows closed.

Review 39:Bed comfort (pillows, mattress etc.) could have been better Shower pressure and temperature were a little flaky

Review 40:Exceptional breakfast Great location Warm customer service Genuinely functional WiFi

Review 41:Lovely family run guest house the family were friendly and accomodating. The house is very tidy and nothign is too much trouble for the owners.

Review 42:Not one. (ps. A mini fridge or similar could be hidden inside a rustic cupboard in the room BUT we were allowed full access to kitchen fridge and sideboard of wine glasses.

Review 43:The Breakfast. I'm a big fan of breakfast and this was sublime. A cooked to order plate of a half dozen delicious ingredients and a full spread of breads, jams, sponges and a juicy plum flan (the smell of which baking had greater us on check in the night before). Fantastic free WiFi. Sockets by the bed. Comfy cosy and rustic rooms. Air Con. Super comfy bed. Wet room style bathroom. And the owners. They made us feel like part of their family.

Review 44:The rooms are small. The breakfast spread was identical every day, with too many sweets for our liking. The cooked option seemed rushed - the bacon was not crispy, the mushrooms and tomatoes not properly cooked. Nowhere to make yourself a cup of tea in the afternoon. And too many notices with rules - made it feel like boarding school.

Review 45:Friendly family atmosphere. Nice touch to have beach towels available for guests and drying racks on the roof top.Spotlessly clean. Location handy to sea front promenade, restaurants and the local bus stop.

Review 46:Our welcome was rather pro forma more than genuinely welcoming There are lots of lists of rules that should be adhered to, which did not add to the sense of welcoming The shower alternated between hot and cold

Review 47:The breakfast is excellent The room has quaint furniture that is still very functional It is located close to the sea

Review 48:We truly limed its superb cleanliness. Rooms very homely. Breakfast was very good, my dietry requirement being taken care of. Locations - just round the corner from the beach. We truly felt at home.

Review 49:The place is clean with dedicated staff. They went our of their way to help us and make our stay comfortable especially with a young child. Most of all they also provided for special dietary requirements and that meant to us. The location is also a great one, surrounded by restaurants, the sea and also so close to the other villages in Gozo. For sure we will return.

Review 50:slightly noisy during night with other guests in hallway, woke me up.

Review 51:lovely people, family run, felt special, fantastic breakfast, let us into our room early, balcony, nice bathroom, recommended us places to eat.

Review 52:The old fashioned bed was beautiful but the metal frame was very noisy. I had to tie socks on each joint to keep it from making loud clanking noises each time I turned over. No biggie though. Nothing to do with the guest house, but there is only one ATM in the whole area and it didn't work with either of our Visa cards, so we had to get a bus into Victoria/Rabat to withdraw cash so we could pay for the hotel and expenses. Very few places accept card there, so beware of that ATM!

Review 53:As soon as we got there (just by the bus stop) we were warmly welcomed. Check in was a breeze despite being 2 hours early, and the whole place was gorgeous. The beds were super comfortable and the breakfast was incredible.

Review 54:The bed was too high, and the mattress too hard. There was no chair in the very small room to sit down on.

Review 55:The staff was friendly, the hotel very clean, and the breakfast very good. And the owners provided small amenities that made staying there very pleasant.

Review 56:Late night bar across road so no sleep till after midnight. Early road noise so woken at 6am.

Review 57:Location close to restaurants. Friendly staff. Very clean.

Review 58:The room was small. For the price, comparable with a hotel with facilities and pool, there wasn't a lot offered. Plastic cups in room, sachets of shower gel that never open! The room faced onto a block opposite. As the room was quite dark and needed lights on when in, it meant there was no privacy unless the heavy curtains were drawn. The 'cooked' breakfast wasn't cooked at all!! Flabby fat on the bacon, rock hard tomatoes etc The rest was ok if you liked cake or processed cheese. The first morning we had a call half hour before breakfast ended asking if we were coming down!! We really tried hard to like this place, but couldn't.

Review 59:The location was good. A block back from the sea front. Nice touch having chests of beach towels and toiletries left behind you could help yourself to.

Review 60:The service, attention to detail, breakfast. Made to feel very welcome by Joe, Sonia and Anna. Would recommend to anyone, stayed 4 nights and enjoyed everyday.

Review 61:Very clean, extraordinary friendly staff, very good (optionally cooked) breakfast. Bus station just a few meteres form guest house- you really do not need to rent a car. Probably the best guest house on the Island of Gozo.

Review 62:The standard double room was a bit small, but very clean. Lighting was dim due to vintage wiring.

Review 63:The two sisters and their father that own this property are very warm and gracious hosts. Breakfast wad outstanding, with homemade baked goods.

Review 64:Felt like we were living in their home - very helpful and high attention to detail. Wonderful full or continental breakfast inc in price - a great chill out place

Review 65:The room was difficult to heat yp on a cold day, compared to other places we stayed in Malta the price was a bit high

Review 66:The bed, the balcony, the location

Review 67:Exceptionally spacious and clean rooms. Excellent breakfast with lovely home-made cakes. Very friendly owner. If the rooms had a tv and a fridge, i'd give the place a 10/10.

Review 68:A bit noisy but you'd expect that in the second busiest town on Gozo.

Review 69:Breakfast is the highlight of staying in this hotel. It is simply exceptional.

Review 70:Maria G is set back one street from the 'prom', several bars and cafes etc. nearby. Therefore think in summertime the central location would be noise-y.

Review 71:A mature wedding guest surrounded by divers and hikers ! I was made very welcome, I appreciated the helpfulness, advice on where to park and excellent breakfast. Nice trad decor too.

Review 72:There's little insulation from in-house noise.

Review 73:We were very lucky to get in with the last booking. After walking half the island of Gozo in 1 day, the powerful hot shower was just what we needed. The place is fantastic, clean and well located. The breakfast was awesome as were the staff.

Review 74:A very homely guesthouse in a great location. This place has all the little touches of hosts that really care about the experience and service their guests receive. Delicious breakfasts also! I would stay here again and would highly recommend.

Review 75:Nothing to dislike

Review 76:We loved the feel of Maria Giovanna's as soon as we walked through the door. It has been beautifully restored, keeping original features and the mix of the old and the new in furniture and furnishings is lovely.welcoming and helpful staff ,great breakfasts.

Review 77:Wifi was a bit patchy, but no worse than the other places we stayed in Malta or Greece Beach was gravelly as a result of the removal in the near past of a breakwater

Review 78:1 short block from bus stop. 1/2 block from beach close to many appealing restaurants Provision of beach towels, sun screen, laundry tub and drying rack on roof More delicious options for breakfast than one could possibly eat Gracious hosts Quiet place: strong emphasis by hosts on respecting other guests Marsalforn has a very long shoreline walk with many interesting features. Short bus ride from Gigantja and other beaches Dramatic scenery Beach combing Warm sea water still in mid October

Review 79:Perhaps having tea and coffee available at all times as in a help yourself counter.

Review 80:Personal attention. Great breakfast, location accessible to beach, restaurants and local bus

Review 81:Nothing!

Review 82:This was my second stay at Maria Giovanna's Guest House and it will not be my last! It's a place where the two sisters, Anna and Sonia, and their father, make you feel at home and welcomed from the moment you step inside. The breakfast is delicious! Full English breakfast, müsli, etc, fresh fruit and for those who love cakes, homebaked cakes every day.The guest house is very charming, close to shops, restaurants, the beach and the bus stop. I have no hesitations what so ever to recommend a pleasant stay at Maria Giovanna's Guest House!

Review 83:- a bit noisy in early morning due to the street in front of the guesthouse

Review 84:- great breakfast included: cooked breakfast (toast, fried egg, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes), a very large variety of delicious pastry (tarts, muffins, cakes), fruits, juice, tea, coffee... - nice clean room & bathroom, with AC - friendly staff

Review 85:We were diving most days, Maria Giovanna Guest House offered us a perfect start and end to our day. The breakfast set us up nicely, their special packed lunches got us through our day. We thoroughly recommend Maria Giovanna Guest House!!

Review 86:The "reminder call" 15 min before the checking out time spoilt a bit the family atmosphere of Guest House and turned it into “business oriented enterprise”.

Review 87:The location is perfect, the sea is purely just around the corner and in 3 min walk distance to a sand beach. Beautiful breakfast and welcoming hosts. As it was our first time in Gozo we contacted the Guest House to give us travel details how to get it and got an immediate reply, which was really helpful!

Review 88:Everything was perfect from the well kept facade, to the old maltese tiles, to the quaint bedroom whereby the word "quaint" is not a substitute for old! The delicious smell of cakes and the basket of emergency toiletries and beach towels available made this whole experience so lovely and homey! As very frequent Gozo travellers, usually renting out apartments, staying here truly made this visit a holiday in its own and we will definitely be back!! (more cake too please!)

Review 89:I didn't want to leave :-)

Review 90:It instantly gives you a feeling that you stepped in a house that is really a home. Spotless clean. Very well kept. Every detail taken care of. Excellent location! Plus the cakes at breakfast are simply divine!!

Review 91:Room 4 (and 5) is for early risers as the noise from breakfast set-up is considerable (marble floors and table tops). Tea made in coffer pots is not quite there - separate teapots is the only possible enhancement!

Review 92:Pretty much all of it - Anna and Sonia are wonderful hosts, great breakfasts, comfortable rooms and minutes from the seafront.

Review 93:Comfortable rooms. Extremely clean premises. Caring, friendly & professional staff. Breakfast was very good, food very fresh and made on request. Delightful home-made cakes! Very central location.

Review 94:Don't accept credit card for booking, had to find an ATM and pay cash Nobody answered the 24/7 service number (conditioning issues) Air conditioning only works when everything is closed airtight - had to check around to find out what we accidentally left even slightly open Staff a little pushing at breakfast (we were widely on time) Breakfast tables too narrow Weak wifi signal Room too small for the price

Review 95:Nice furnitures Good position near the seafront Very well maintained Free wifi everywhere Good breakfast Clean Wide shower

Review 96:We loved the atmosphere of the guesthouse, the friendly and helping staff and owners, and the fact that they could help us with a gluten free diet! The gluten free bread and cakes were of good quality. And fresh made omelette every morning is a treat! Lovely decorated and spotless room - and a wonderful fairytale bed! We felt like home!

Review 97:Owners were very friendly and helpful. Excellent location just 2 minutes walk from sea front, excellent bars and restaurants. Very clean premises and rooms and excellent breakfast.

Review 98:Wish the sea view was better but we knew that it was a side view only.

Review 99:The cleanliness of the place, the breakfast, the friendliness and the location. The room was cool and although in a popular area we could sleep comfortably.

Review 100:A bit noisy bar opposite the hotel. The breakfast could be more varied for such a beautiful place.

Review 101:Good location in the center of Marsalforn, near from bus stop, seafront. You have to understand that Marsalforn is really very tiny town with really lovely landscapes and beautiful people! The hotel is very clean, I felt that the owners love this home and treat it with respect.

Review 102:The accomodation has to be paid in advance which is very un-usual. The doors to the rooms are very old-fashioned and you hear all the noises of your neighbors when they bang their doors at 2am in the morning. The aircon switches off any moment in order to save electricity.

Review 103:Don`t expect a five-star-hotel here, this is a simple guesthouse. The rooms are clean but without any facilities. But the aircondition works. Breakfast is good and a daily home-made cake is served. But of course there is no buffet. The owners, two sisters, are friendly and helpful.

Review 104:Charming, family-run guesthouse, very nice atmosphere and in excellent location. We loved everything! Including the delicious breakfast and rustic furniture.

Review 105:Loved the location, the staff, the breakfast, the friendly warmth.

Review 106:Excellent location. Rooms and linen very clean. Very good breakfast.

Review 107:would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in room.

Review 108:great location close to the sea, very homely and clean, staff were wonderful

Review 109:Friendly staff, lovely, stylish rooms and great breakfast

Review 110:Excellent service. Nice people. Comfortable mattress.

Review 111:Warmth and welcome of Sonia and Anna. The quality and cleanliness of our room. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 112:Extreme helpfulness and hospitality including lemons from the owners' garden to cure our cold!

Review 113:The best cakes I have ever eat before ! The breakfast is splendid.

Review 114:The room was a bit small and both of us are small people.

Review 115:The place is very cosy, clean and welcoming. The staff exccellent

Review 116:near the pub, a factor independent of the owners

Review 117:family atmosphere and extremely nice owners

Review 118:No chairs to sit. No tv.

Review 119:Breakfast Friendly staff

Review 120:The place was very cosy. AC unit worked perfectly well. Service was friendly. Breakfast was delicious! Highly recommended place!
