Reviews for Calypso Hotel
Review 1:There was no quilt in our room, only blankets. TV set is quite outdated. There was a repaired crack in the bath which leaked water onto the floor. Wi-Fi quality was weak and faltering within our room.
Review 2:Large and airy room. Good breakfast, though one has to pay for a cappuccino taken at breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 3:No extra pillows in room, tiles in bathroom moving when you walk, old blankets and bed linen does not cover the whole bed ending up sleeping on the mattress. Wif fi was not available contrary to what it is advertised.
Review 4:Sea view booked of room
Review 5:Steep ramp made it difficult for my husband to push me, he went to the restaurant next door and asked for help
Review 6:View from bedroom, omelette station at breakfast. Didn't want a 4 course meal and so the chef made us a pizza and salad.
Review 7:Take care: you are forced to pay your complete stay at the moment of the arrival. So you will have no chance to leave unless you are ready to pay another hotel extra. Do not expect a 4 star hotel . Small room, very small bed, dirty blankets, stinking and very small bathroom. The canal stink is coming out from the bathroom even if you close the door, rotten fruit salad at breakfast, the kitchen use a common textile towel for cleaning the fried egg pan, etc. There was a big hard stone breaking harbour reconstruction work in front of the hotel for days or weeks long from morning till 6 p.m. in the afternoon continously. Of course about this fact the hotel forgot to give information in advance. When we claimed on the second day, the management said that it was starting just on that morning....., they even did not recognized that we arrived the day before, so we knew exactly that this information is not correct. We had also problem with the form of the bill ( no final invoice just " bill in advance " ) and after 2 weeks the getting back of the pre bank card deposit is still not in order. The only nice thing is the location beside the sea and the harbour but nothing else is showing any 4 star rating.
Review 8:very clean and tidy manager very good and helpful. most staff good some just ok! cleaners were great i have to say. the location was brill the restaurant next door the smugglers is great for snacks and evening meals with fantastic staff and very good food. it was our first time staying in the calypso and we enjoyed it. although the pool wasn't overly big it also wasn't too busy for august there was never a time we couldn't use it or felt it to be overcrowd, there also always a sunbed available which was great. so overall happy
Review 9:The pool is too small. Wi Fi service is very poor. This Hotel should have a parking space.
Review 10:The breakfast was very good. and the view from the roof is super.
Review 11:Found particular staff members quite rude at times, others were more than friendly and helpful however. Breakfast wasn't very good quality, was disappointed with fresh fruit selection and lack of fresh juices (only concentrate) wouldn't opt in for this next time if I was to return.
Review 12:Great location, quiet and clean hotel
Review 13:Our only complaint was the fact that the shower gel was not replenished throughout our stay. The empty gel bottles were left accumulating in our shower tray. We noted this to the Hotel's GM on checking out. It may be time to change the bedspreads.
Review 14:We had a seaview room and the view was excellent. Pool on the roof is very pleasant. Staff were always cordial. We will certainly revisit the Hotel!
Review 15:Upgrade of the pool area and maybe add a spa to the already nice hotel.
Review 16:Location is great as it has a lot of good restaurants in its proximity. Staff is well educated and very friendly. Good value for money.
Review 17:Non existing internet connection in the room, Wi-Fi network name shows up but most of the time it was not possible to connect, when able to connect the internet was almost impossible to surf. Nowadays it is expected to have a decent internet access in a hotel room. The lobby area was crowned with people, because it was the only place that internet worked.
Review 18:Near the sea and the beach (about 50 meters). Nice room and view from the balcony. Good breakfast with a lot to choose from, staff at breakfast were effective and removed used plates often.
Review 19:The internet connection is rather weak and sometimes impossible to use. The hotel is in need of renovation but it still looks like the best hotel in the town.
Review 20:Unfortunately we had to cater with a constant strong hum, day and night, coming from the shaft near our 2nd floor room. I found it difficult to sleep well. This was reported twice but was not solved.
Review 21:Excellent location and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was good and the room was clean and comfortable.
Review 22:matress and room we forgot my swim suit on the umbrella of the roof swimming pool which we lost and could not blame any one but this was my fault it was not recovered
Review 23:swimming pool breakfast
Review 24:wifi in room pitifully weak not all balconies the same - beware! Some are very open, mine was an enclosed concrete box, though at least it was private no real use of communal spaces in hotel no hotel bar 'sea view' misleading. Mine was 2F so more of a view over small harbour and across bay, not really open sea
Review 25:town itself, and hotel's location hotel is good with no major issues staff friendly rooftop area nice for sunbathing and quieter than beach, cafe there good
Review 26:Room had no coffee facilities. We have asked for a kettle which we got. When we asked for coffee and sugar sachets for our room, we never got them
Review 27:Location was very good, staff very helpful amd the room was comfortable
Review 28:Paying for a bay view room when it wasn't. Poor breakfast. Having to pay for an iron and ironing board. Old bedroom furniture. Outside appearance.
Review 29:The location.
Review 30:Staff at reception especially the ladies could smile a bit more. The ladies looked down at the desk when talking with us and no smiles.. I was a receptionist so I know that a lovely smile when customers arrive is very important.
Review 31:Calypso Hotel is situated at an excellent location where you can just park the car and enjoy the beauty surrounding it on foot. The breakfast was awesome and so were the staff in the restaurants.
Review 32:One day we have ants in our room but the cleaning person help us and clean allways very carefully.
Review 33:On the top of the hotel you can go swin and view arround this city and the land. On the front is the local habour, that's very nice on evening. Gozo is a small island and from this point you can drive to all points in shorter than 30 minutes. We were on the island to climb, it's very nice on to climb on gozo.
Review 34:Parking is a problem when unloading lugages.
Review 35:the hotel is close to the sea. From the balcony we could enjoy the rough waves and smell the freshness it brings with it.
Review 36:I would have preferred a standing shower. I had my 90 year old mother with me. It was not easy for her to get in the bath. There was a shortage of plugs in the room (only one three pin) so we had a problem charging our phones and iPads.
Review 37:Room was comfortable and view was nice too.
Review 38:- it is very awkward unloading the luggages from your car as there is literally no hotel parking spaces available and if there is traffic other cars start sounding their horns for you to move your car whilst you're taking your luggage to the reception area - public parking is some 10 mins walk - we got a room with no balcony but a window giving onto the back street which one can never open/draw the curtains as one would end up exposed to all the passers-by. For €80 a night at this time of year one would expect better value. - no tea/coffee in the rooms (usually you find these facilities in much cheaper hotels) - breakfast quality varies - some items are good, but others were overcooked / burnt / dry - no sale of local newspapers, not even on Sundays - although information in the room directs you to a room service menu, no menu is available, and when enquiring with reception, I was informed there wasn't one and asked to go down to reception and read the menu from the notice board!
Review 39:Location and wi-fi are very good. We appreciated that hotel was obliging in accommodating some requirements since we were travelling with a baby. Breakfast staff were very pleasant.
Review 40:mattress uncomfortable ,were not very helpful when asked for a better one,for a 4 star hotel no facilities in room coffee/tea boo to beked a 4 adult room but was given a double bed and 2 VERY small open beds not worth the money, should be told in advance what i was going to been givenwas a nightmare to sleep very disappointed
Review 41:staff was very helpful during breakfast
Review 42:Our room was supposed to be a bayview and we got a side bayview room facing abandoned or seemed abandoned buildings in a bad state. Definitely not the nicest of views in the morning! For a 4 Star hotel I expected a flat screen in the room + nicer bed linen.
Review 43:Friendliness of staff and cleanliness in the rooms.
Review 44:We didn't like the noise from the restaurants under the hotel till approx 2 am.,and the beds were very uncomfortable. For a 4 star Hotel no coffee/tea facilities in the room.
Review 45:The hotel was very clean and rooms nicely furnished, staff were very pleasant.
Review 46:Television set in our room was old and should be changed. Also, more channels should be made available in the room tv.
Review 47:Staff give a service with a smile, and they really do everything to satisfy the needs of their clientele. Keep up the good work
Review 48:Mix up of rooms at check in, slow broadband and having to pay for a room safe activation key.
Review 49:The staff are friendly, helpful, managers are on hand to resolve issues and the hotel is in a great location.
Review 50:The dinners were very poor compared to last year, ie roast chicken two indiscernible small pieces when at the price it should have been a breast ! Not impressed
Review 51:Breakfast,location,high standard of maintenance ,reception and waiting staff.
Review 52:Bathroom was a bit smelly Bed was a little stiff
Review 53:Location is excellent, right next to Piano Lounge which is a recommended place to visit! Friendly and helpful staff
Review 54:i booked the hotel trough booking .com for 1 room with 2 persons, i paid at the check in the price that i booked trough your site but at the check out they told me that the price i paid was for 1 person ,i showed them my booking from my i phone but they persist and had to pay again for the 2nd person, i pretended that they should told me at the check in not at the check out
Review 55:Double bed was so hard, single bed for child was sufficient. Our booking was for a BayView Room but we were given a side room and bay was harldy seen.
Review 56:Excellent rooms, nice staff and very good breakfast !!
Review 57:Parking is a problem. If only breakfast included hot chocolate rather that having been asked to pay extra, guests would appreciate it. Pity because even the charge was small so cannot understand the benefit to the hotel other than possibly irritating a guest.
Review 58:The location and view are marvellous and excellent for a break.
Review 59:1. If you need somerhing (night life) actions this is wrong place (in October). 2. Meny buildings this area are under construction, empty or 'in sale'
Review 60:I relax and enjoy in this clean and nice hotel (between too weeks living in host family in near to Valletta). Very nice but not big beatch is only 50 meters from the hotel (and I saw many fhishes and even octobussy only 20 m far away)
Review 61:Hotel had the aseptic tourist feel. Rooms were tiny and breakfast facility felt like a school cafeteria. Terrible pillows!!!
Review 62:Great location overlooking Malsaforn Bay. Special request for waterfront room was followed through.
Review 63:hotel does need some update especially regarding tv, internet access etc.
Review 64:location, nearby restaurants especially the cost and quality of food and drink, friendliness of both staff and locals, weather.
Review 65:The hotel rooms have a slightly tired feel and the beds are very firm, new mattresses would help.
Review 66:Great location, very friendly staff, sea view rooms are definitely worth the extra cost. Only had breakfast at the hotel which was fine but excellent restaurants adjacent to the hotel. Good wifi available in the lobby but not in the rooms.
Review 67:Sometimes the service is really slow most of all the bar near the pool. Need to improve the cocktails.. A bit difficult to find parking.
Review 68:The breakfast, staff attitude and cleaning are very good.. Gay friendly
Review 69:The fruit juice at breakfast was quite watery, so we abandoned that after the first day. The rooftop pool was very small, though served its purpose as somewhere to sunbathe by and cool off in.
Review 70:Our room was large, clean and well-equipped.Even though we were overlooking the bay, with a bar below us, we were never disturbed by noise. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice - bacon, eggs, omelettes, tomatoes, bread, cheeses, cold meats, fruit, cake, tea & coffee etc. Restaurant staff were attentive and unobtrusive. The hotel is on the bay at Marsalforn, just a couple of minutes from the beach. The sea is shallow enough to swim safely, though the hotel does have a rooftop pool (albeit small) as well. A very nice hotel in a great spot.
Review 71:Being asked to pay up front instead of at end of stay when Hotel had already blocked my visa card for one night as soon as I booked. Outdated Television sets in room
Review 72:Helpful staff; cleanliness, good service, good breakfast, location and most facilities offered
Review 73:The calypso may be the best hotel in marsalforn , but it is at best a two star hotel. The mattresses are the cheapest, lumpiest they could find and the same is true of the pillows. The bed linen is old and when we arrived even though it looked like the room had been cleaned, they had not changed the linen from the previous guest. The hotel is very basic. The wifi works ok in the lobby but in the room is only good enough for emails, when it works but for most of the time it is non existent. The staff are generally just about ok, but the man on the reception at night is simply rude. The calypso is ok but comparing the details on the website to the reality results in disappointment. If you really must be on Gozo I recommend the st Patrick hotel, but you must have a sea view , the other rooms are not great.
Review 74:Good location
Review 75:If you are up to the third floor on the sea front it will be a noisy morning with supply trucks or setting up of outdoor restaurants under your window.
Review 76:Location and sea views are fantastic/
Review 77:The hair dryer was the old fashioned type i.e. a box fixed to the wall in the bathroom with a hose and nozzle. It tended to get very hot making the nozzle hard to hold.
Review 78:The staff at the Calypso Hotel were extremely friendly and helpful and the Manager often circulated among guests chatting and making sure all was ok. Room was average size and clean and comfortable with air conditioning, a ceiling fan, partially stocked mini bar, modern bathroom, large wardrobe with safe, two chairs, double bed and a large balcony. Our room had a wonderful view of the sea, harbour and bay. The buffet breakfast was very good with a large selection of food available. On the roof there was a small pool surrounded by a terrace with sun loungers and parasols (albeit a bit old fashioned) as well as a bar and tables and chairs. The location was excellent with many restaurants within a few minutes walk.
Review 79:Old style (not flat screen) TV, limited number of TV channels
Review 80:Size of room, location at the water's edge, ample breakfast
Review 81:that it doesn't have gym or indoor pool facilities
Review 82:location charge was per room no extra charge for additional bed in room
Review 83:Town a little run down, but some nice restaurants
Review 84:Room, breakfast
Review 85:Beds hard. Rooms fairly basic. Wi-Fi poor in rooms.
Review 86:Beautiful location.
Review 87:Waiters uniform needs to be changed. Too shabby !! TV Sets needs to be upgraded to Flat Screens
Review 88:TV stations not working well.
Review 89:Breakfast is very good, for example you can choose if you want an omelette, fried eggs etc. very clean hotel
Review 90:Parking!

Review 96:Excellent staff. Excellent choice for breakfast - eggs, omlettes cooked to order. Would definately stay again. Lovely sea view room
Review 97:The room layout and bright room as well as the airconditioning
Review 98:Wi-fi did not work, air conditioning would not cool the room sufficiently, and toilet did not flush.
Review 99:Literally no wifi. Not friendly staff. Broken toilet. Awful room view.
Review 100:Apart from the roof-top pool every single detail was awful.
Review 101:Driller noises on a sunday afternoon.
Review 102:poor wifi, breakfast could be better for the price
Review 103:The room, the bay view, huge balcony, location, friendly staff.
Review 104:Old TV sets and room required maintenance.
