Reviews for Guesthouse Muga
Review 1:Location was far from train station but no problem. because the landlord will pick you up at the train station and take you to his house.
Review 2:It is first time for me to stay in the guest house. And it is first time to see Japanese house that old style. This guest house very clean. It`s clean same picture which you can see in booking.com. Landlord very kindness. I impress him and his wife.
Review 3:If your goal is to see Nagoya from here, keep in mind that it's a 2 hour train ride away from Nagoya. Beds are a bit hard. Not many other foreign travellers.
Review 4:It's a good hostel from where you can navigate the city of Hikone very well. You could even do a day trip to Nagoya (2 hours of travelling though). Mr Murata and his wife are very friendly and mr Murata even asks to pick you up from the train station (it's about a half hour walk). The guesthouse itself is actually mr Murata's house, which is a very nice, traditional Japanese home with a beautiful garden. It's a great experience to sleep in such a place.
Review 5:Room was slightly stuffy as during this period no air con. However, weopened the sliding door at the side to let in some breeze so it'sstill alright. As there's no netting, and I was not sure if therewould be bugs and mosquitos, we had to close it later. It'll begood to have nets as since it's cooling in Sep in the evenings,I'm alright with no air con, and we can have natural airventilation. There's only one shower room but when I was there, there weren't many people, so it's ok. But I understand thatguesthouse can take a maximum of 12-15 people, so if there is anadditional shower, it'll be good.
Review 6:Great guesthouse in a quiet environment, walking distance of 15 min tolake or castle. But it can be complicated to find if you arrive at thejr station, so it's nice that the owner Hajime san emailed me afterI booked the guesthouse that he could pick me up, and I pay 200 yen forgas. That's reasonable. As I had large luggages and didn't knowmy way, and walking would take around 20min, that's a great option.Homely environment and Mikiko san (Hajime's wife) (hope I spelledname correctly) provided nice little touches to the place. Mini handtowels for wiping hands which she sewed. There are separate toilets forladies and men (one each). The ladies is decorated with pink items (pinktoilet paper used too). Clean and homely place. Free coffee and tea.Mostly Japanese guests as not many foreigners know about this place, soI had a good time chatting with the Japanese guests.
Review 7:The host was too nice and told me a lot of the history of the building and also shared the reasons why they started running a guesthouse in Hikone. I had very good stay in Muga.
Review 8:Very nice old traditional house, great location and a beautiful garden. The owners are very nice and make sure everyone feels comfortable. I'd definitly stay there again!
Review 9:Kawaii traditional japanese guesthouse with a low price.. Mostly guests are japanese people which is a good opportunity to learn about japan..closer than you think to Kyoto even Osaka..and owners are great people.
Review 10:Although we had maybe some language difficulties when communicating with owners it wasn't important because we felt in this guest house not as a customers but rather more like a members of the family. The places is very cozy and with it's own style. Really worth visiting - even Hikone is not "must see" we strongly recommend to go there ;-) We were free to ask any questions about Japan way of life and we had an impression that they are not just giving us information but they want us to feel it and understand
Review 11:Not so close to the station, but the owner offer to pick us up for 200yen/gas. Be aware that you'll be sleeping in a shared room and maybe other guests you'll have to share it with, could snore.
Review 12:Very kind staff, even they could speak very little english, they tried their best to help us. Very close to the castle. Beautiful area, supermarket nearby.
Review 13:The owners are exceptionally nice and would do all they can in order to make you feel comfortable and at home. I would certainly recommend other travelers to stay there!
Review 14:Beautiful compound and traditional house Amenities were comprehensive and new Owner was very friendly and helpful Very near to a supermarket, which makes for cheap and good snack runs
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:The staff was so nice, the guesthouse owner offered to come get me from the train station by car, because its a little bit hard to find the first time (then it becomes really easy) Ask the guest house owner to show u all of the antiques he found around his house, he will be really glad to show you and explain. The place is beautifully designed and the garden is so calming to contemplate at
Review 17:The lockers all had a circular gap in each door almost large enough for a hand, perhaps they used to have circular combination locks on them...? It was unusual & I didn't want to put valuables in there because you could see inside.
Review 18:Helpful staff, lovely handmade touches in the hand towels & bathroom floor mats.
Review 19:The house owner was friendly and kind as well. Visitors were not group so It is good for single visitors can meet other travelers. Gorgeous views~someone who needs rest time I recommend this town this guesthouse
Review 20:Location is a little bit far from Hikone station.
Review 21:the owner is really great and hlepful! They are funny people with open mind. Traditional japanness house is amazing and cozy. people here is awesome. I would like to stay here for next time I travel in Japan!
Review 22:i could not find the guest house very easy, and since I was carrying a super heavy backpack and it was 22 degrees Celsius that was not very comfortable
Review 23:- cool combination of traditional building with new dorms
Review 24:A lot of special slippers for each room had to be taken on and off, which certainly keeps the floors clean!
Review 25:This guesthouse is very clean and cozy, with the kitchen, check in, and eating area in the main building, which is a beautiful old Japanese house. The sleeping area, showers, and etc are on the other wise of a small courtyard in a new building which was very clean and also cozy. Nice sinks and nice hot water. They give you a hot bottle bottle for your feet in the winter, which was great.
Review 26:No bad experience, but I wouldn't want to be there in the busy season, when you could spend a lot of time queuing to use the bathroom facilities, which are very limited in number.
Review 27:Low key, very relaxed atmosphere. And, I defy anyone to find another hostel where the owner puts individual hot-water bottles in every bed!
Review 28:The guesthouse is very well located near a supermarket and also is easy to arrive at the station! They gave me a map as soon as I got there. They picked me up at the station for ¥200. They were very kind!
Review 29:Maybe it is a little far from the nearest station.
Review 30:I think it is a good place, the people who run the place is extremely nice and really willing to help, even with their poor english. It is a guesthouse, yet it was really clean and comfortable
Review 31:Maybe the fact that you have to walk 20 min from Hikone's station: for me it was ok and it's not so far but It's an information for people who're not able to walk a lot.
Review 32:The fact I felt i was part of the family. Hajime and Noriko are really welcoming and I enjoyed the conversations with them! The house is full of history with a lovely garden. Peaceful place away from the tourists
Review 33:Stayed with Muga for 2 nights at Hikone during the autumn season. Had amazing time there, the host Hajime and Noriko is amazingly helpful and friendly. They also interacted with us, I learned a lot about the local culture and surrounding from them. This is a great place to stay if you want to experience a local life in a quiet town in Japan. The host speaks English so there is no problem interacting with them.
Review 34:The beautiful traditional japanese house and the courtyard are beautifully arranged, and the new facilities, where the dorms are, are convenient and comfortable. The young couple running the hostel are extremely kind and welcoming.
Review 35:Only one bathroom was available for all (males and females)
Review 36:The host and his partner was kind and polite. The hostel was clean and tidy. The environment was quiet and comfortable. The hostel was close to a supermarket.
Review 37:1. There's only one shower room for guests.
Review 38:1. There's a supermarket near the guesthouse, only 1 minute walk. 2. The owners of the MUGA guesthouse are very friendly. 3. The ower can help you to rent a bike to visit Hikone, including lake and sunset. (bike rate 6 hours 600yen) 4. The owner can pick you up at the Hikone station, and you pay for the gasoline 200yen, It's quite worthy.
Review 39:Just is a bit far from train station and is hard to find, but owner can pick up you on train station.
Review 40:Very friendly staff (owners). Nice clean rooms and facillities. I like it.
Review 41:Not really close to the attractions of the city (castle and lakeside), but still at a walkable distance. If you fancy a restaurant for dinner, you'll have to walk a bit.
Review 42:The owner is very nice, friendly and available for help, only downside is the proficiency in English, but not a problem. He started this activity recently and he's proud of it. If you'd like to, he'll show you things he found in the house (a Wakizashi among other things) and tell you stories. Everything is neat and clean. The rooms have a very nice view of the garden, the kitchen is very clean, as the toilet and the shower. The Wifi is excellent and works from outside of the house as well. There's a cheap convenience store just next to it, but check the opening times.
Review 43:very soulful place with magnificent owners. 100+ years old japanese-style building, where you can feel Spirit of Time and History. The best place I've ever stayed in all my travels.
Review 44:kitchen utensils were clean but not wiped dry
Review 45:kotatsu is very nice friendly staff
Review 46:A bit far away to walk from JR Station, no cup provide in teeth cleaning area
Review 47:Clean, Traditional house, very quiet
Review 48:Nice and very helpfull staff.
Review 49:Friendly hostel in a nice traditional property
Review 50:標準日式庭院 大廳寬廠又乾淨 Have a big japan garden, and the public is clean and good.
Review 51:Quiet, friendly owner & experience the culture
Review 52:Hajime (the owner) was very helpful I got a really good night's sleep
Review 53:curfews, can only shower between 8am to 11pm.
Review 54:clean and helpful staff
Review 55:Beautiful and old main house and a modern dorm building separated by a lovely Japanese garden. Very friendly staff.
Review 56:Fantastic old house. Owners are considerate. I was allmost alone in a dormitory, and sleeping was excellent. Very clean. Big shop with everything, what you would need so close.
Review 57:The location of this guesthouse is quite complicated even though Hajime sent me the detail of the street with pictures, I was still lost. But you can call him for picking up from the station anyway.
Review 58:Hikone in my opinion is a beautiful quiet city. I like Muga as it's so quiet and calm, perfect for staying overnight in such a quiet town. The owner, Hajime and his wife are also very nice and gentle, they thoroughly prepared the guesthouse for guests.
Review 59:No cooking facilities at all. Not even a kettle unless you go to the main house. Unclear directions made it quite difficult to find.
Review 60:The accommodation was comfortable, bathroom and shower room was clean. Eco friendly hand towels and bathmats. Nice garden in the middle separating the main house and the dorms.
Review 61:It was a little out of the way, but google got me there with no problems. If you do a little more research then I did, their is a bus that goes very close from the train station, save yourself the walk. It is in a beautiful part of old Tokyo, narrow lanes and small immaculately manicured gardens. The beautiful Hikone castle is nearby and well worth a visit. Shops very close as well. Hosts were friendly, went with us to dinner a couple of nights and held a small party another night. The hostel Facilities are simple, but new and clean , and the surroundings are a 100 year old house with a lovely garden.
Review 62:It's a great place to stay ! The guesthouse is new, everything has been done with taste, and there is all facilities you need ! The dorms are on a lovely garden inside an old traditionnal japanese house. One of my best stay in Japan !
Review 63:Personally I think there's not much to do in the neighbourhood and I wouldn't stay here for the surroundings. Yeah, Hikone castle was alright, although going inside the castle was quite boring. The area around the castle is alright. Although not necessarily a bad point, you are not allowed to eat anything in your room. My sheets smelled a bit funny, but maybe that was just the smell of the wood? Couldn't quite locate the scent.
Review 64:The owners are very friendly, you really feel as if you are welcomed into their home. We were even guided to a delicious ramen restaurant, which was a very nice way to meet the other guests. Hygiene is excellent, with nice shower products and a very clean bathroom. The living room has a nice table that warms up and you can cosily sit under the blankets. There is a bus leaving from Hikone station that goes directly to the Huweiado (or something) supermarket. Its the stop in front of the bookstore at the station. When you get off at the supermarket, walk through the supermarket to the parking lot and then just 30 meters straight ahead into the nearest alley (liiiitle bit of an angle to the right) and there's a sign saying Muga guesthouse on your left! No need to walk all the way! Also you can use the kitchen to cook up your food that you can easily buy from the supermarket thats just 30 seconds away.
Review 65:Location is too far and no other means of transpo can be hailed except for cab si think, but direction is too confusing esp for travellers who will arrive at nighttime. I hope the guesthouse owners would consider picking up the guests to and from the train station, even with additional fee.
Review 66:The place is really good and quiet. The quarters were clean, new and neat. Garden is also very calming.
Review 67:The dinner parties offered great opportunities to learn about Japanese culture and the city! The facilities were super clean compared to hostels located in Tokyo.
Review 68:PC with internet did not work, kitchen facilities are not well equipped, but kitchen staff was flexible and superhelpful
Review 69:Friendliness of the staff, rooms in traditional style
Review 70:Layout between female dorms needs improvement for privacy
Review 71:Newly renovated guesthouse Convenient location Breakfast room view of garden Humble attitude & willingness to improve by Owners Hajime Murata and wife, Noriko Sense of "nonself" Muga
Review 72:Fantastic place to stay! The guesthouse is very new, clean and comfortable. It has wifi and 30 second walk to a large supermarket. Lovely owners who invited us to join their traditional takoyaki dinner which we were able to help prepare and enjoy. Hikone is a fantastic place that is often missed but easily accessible from Kyoto and worth the trip. Staying at this guesthouse gave a chance to experience a more authentic Japan!
Review 73:The most warmest and coziest place in Shiga! Highly recommend :)
Review 74:Wi-fi availability could be improved
Review 75:The dorm was superb.
Review 76:Even though there were VERY detailed instructions on how to find it, I still got lost. Maybe a sign from the parking lot?
Review 77:Very very nice staff!
Review 78:Price
Review 79:Location and Neatness
Review 80:The traditional Japanese garden inside the hostel. Feel leisure, comfortable and pleasant at the hostel garden.
