Reviews for Craig's Royal Hotel
Review 1:Jason went beyond the call of duty in every way .... Including sending on some cream I left behind to Perth ... Sending my good friend Trish Hayes to you sometime.
Review 2:There was no toilet brush in the bathroom.
Review 3:We loved everything about the Craig Hotel. The staff were excellent - nothing was a problem to them. Our Tuki lamb dinner was sensational.
Review 4:Fabulous centrally located hotel with a real olde world charm. I wanted to put my crinolines on (not really - too hot!!). Room perhaps a little small but beautifully renovated and spotlessly clean. You would think you were the first clients in a new reno!! Fantastic food in the restaurant and faultless service
Review 5:Bistro was booked out when we got there and I was surprised that allowance wasn't made for guests.
Review 6:Beautifully restored hotel and the rooms were lovely. The mattress and pillows on the bed were perfect.
Review 7:Lovely hotel but the biggest problem is the Internet. Constantly having to try to log on. When your device screen goes to sleep ( in my case 1 minute) I had to try and log in again, which didn't always work
Review 8:Lovely grand old hotel. Great location and very good staff
Review 9:We splurged and stayed in a Royal suite for the night and it was a beautiful, opulent room with all modern conveniences. The staff were excellent from the valet who parked our car to the house staff and restaurant waiters. This is a stunningly and loving restored hotel.
Review 10:Camper bed was uncomfortable but managed by removing the base and having the mattress on the floor.
Review 11:Very friendly staff and lovely old building. Beautiful decor. Great food.
Review 12:The checkout staff was managing valet collection and desk, so we had to wait. Humming of airconditioner unit outside window over dinning area.
Review 13:Valet parking
Review 14:I loved everything about this hotel
Review 15:Beautifully restored heritage building. Rooms luxuriously furnished and full of old world charm. Very helpful and friendly staff and we enjoyed the ambiance and excellence of dinner served in the hotel restaurant. Altogether a very memorable stay and one that I would recommend unreservedly.
Review 16:The only downside was not having a long enough time at this hotel.
Review 17:Such an incredibly beautiful hotel. It has retained its old world charm but has all the modern features one would expect.
Review 18:I do like to swim, so a heated pool was the only thing missing from facilities. Also for 5 star I expect a shaver and toothbrush.
Review 19:I will be back to Craig's! The staff were outstanding. They even found me shoe polish!
Review 20:couldn't pick a fault
Review 21:the staff were friendly and welcoming. the room and building were charming and comfortable. the restaurant was great for dinner too. great location
Review 22:The bed was firm and the pillow too floppy. But that is just my personal taste.
Review 23:I have never experienced such a clean bathroom. No dust, hair, grime or corners that had escaped attention. Extremely Clean!
Review 24:Great stay, but I did hit my head on a light in the bathroom when i dropped some things in the rubbish bin. Also toilet not very private. Would be great if you had Foxtell. I'd pay the extra money to stay.
Review 25:Beautiful hotel.
Review 26:Unable to find a single dislike.
Review 27:The helpful and pleasant attitude of all, repeat all the staff in this establishment were of the highest standard. Some what of a rarity these days.
Review 28:Very well restored/maintained historic building. Staff all friendly and welcoming. Dining both dinner and breakfast enjoyable with prompt service.
Review 29:I was right over a pub and the noise from the band and singing kept me awake until they closed, it was terrible. Also the staff were only mediocre in their service, I expected a bit more for the cost of the room.
Review 30:Gorgeous and well maintained building, with a very comfortable bed and beautiful furnishings. A luxury well worth visiting.
Review 31:the service for the conference was poor. Had to Request cold water at 2 separate times, coffee and tea had to be asked for and was cold. Chairs uncomfortable when sitting for long periods.
Review 32:The building and history of building. Decor fantastic
Review 33:Cold Bed, no room service, wifi would not work, even tried with Hotel staff assisting. No Mini Bar. Not up to par for price of room. Sorry. Staff lovely..
Review 34:Beautiful Hotel, great breakfast
Review 35:For the price of the room I expected much more luxurious amenities. Towels and robs lost their softness long ago. Tea and coffee was equal to that supplied by a budget chain motel (excluding plunger coffee) No mini bar or even wine glasses in room. No room service menu and really disappointed with food from restaurant. Building was in need of maintenance with paint cracked and pealing of many of the walls. Balcony was in the process of being painted but could use some plant life to lift what was in reality a dark and pigeon poo filed spot.
Review 36:Great location and history to building. Staff were very accommodating. Breakfast omelette was great.
Review 37:I can't , but If I had to nitpick, I could say struggling into the 1920's or was it 1880's elevator was awkward, but what an experience. Can't do that many places today
Review 38:The room furnishings were superb. Reminded me of some of the classic hotels I've stayed at in Asia and around the world. Everything seemed to work for me. A nice place to stay.
Review 39:Beds were quite uncomfortable and the TV screen was smaller than my laptop. Our room was like an oven on arrival. It was a very warm day but no-one had thought to turn on the A/C but managed to leaving the cleaning agents in our room.
Review 40:Great location, safe secure parking and excellent restaurant downstairs.
Review 41:not many vegetarian options on menu in bistro.
Review 42:the reception staff particularly Jason the Thomas Bath Suite. central location not far from train station. l'Occitane products Quite location
Review 43:Room was small, and bathroom smaller....but it was the style of the time and we enjoyed the effort to make everything work.
Review 44:Excellent effort to retain old world features while meeting modern code. Front rooms have small balconies over a street that is very quiet at night. Excellent shower. Continental breakfast very good.
Review 45:Room was so cramped we had twin bed's 1ft separated them ,Bed was so narrow you nearly needed a seat belt so as not to fall out when sleeping. Bath room well appointed EXCEPT for the shower ( Very small)
Review 46:Location and Decor
Review 47:Unfortunately the wi-fi needs an upgrade, too weak, unable to connect. The main bar was too noisy for a quiet drink, better to use the foyer lounge if you want quiet. Pokies, but they are reasonably discretely tucked away, didn't intrude. And one other little gripe, can't find anywhere to provide feedback to the management on the Craig's web site. The room didn't seem like great value for money at the rate we paid, but there seem to be better deals available, ours was a pretty last minute booking.
Review 48:Spent a night here last weekend. Room was nicely decorated, big enough and comfortable, as was the bathroom. It was towards the rear of the property, with no view (who cares when you are asleep) and very quiet; couldn't even hear the bathroom plumbing from the bedroom (which is more than I can say for just about any modern property). Had a nice dinner and enjoyable wines in the Gallery bistro. Had the included continental breakfast the following morning, with delightful poached (not tinned, like so many places) fruit, and absolutely yummy vanilla yoghurt. Plunger coffee quite adequate. Service was polite and efficient all round, both at check-in/checkout and in the bistro. One suggestion - would like to see some quality "Craigs" memorabilia available from the 'cafe & larder'.
Review 49:My daughter and I spent a Saturday night here. A nice welcome and it was fun exploring the old hallways. The renovation and maintenance look great. Dinner and breakfast were tasty in the large dining room. Would suit just about any sort of visitor to Ballarat - and we would stay there again.
Review 50:Lift was not available to guests unless accompanied by staff member - not good enough we were on the top floor.
Review 51:Location was fantastic Beautiiful room well serviced
Review 52:I booked two superior rooms .The first room was small with no bedhead and nothing like the pictures on the booking site. The second bedroom was lovely and what I expected. I requested a another room and was changed to a room which was to my liking.
Review 53:The wait staff were very pleasant and obliging especially the dinner staff.
Review 54:Heating in the room was marginal at best, and the hot water for showering was non existent on arrival, and erratic and substandard in the morning
Review 55:Lovely restoration of the building and very helpful staff
Review 56:the ambience
Review 57:Bed was a bit on the hard side.
Review 58:Lots of character & charm. Great location.
Review 59:the hotel staff were so friendly. I had dinner in the dining room and the staff and the food were very good.
Review 60:Smallish room
Review 61:Bars, dinner, breakfast and friendly staff
Review 62:No functional window in room.
Review 63:Atmosphere. Quality of furniture & fittings excellent.
Review 64:Poor menu for such an establishment, it's October and you are still offering the "winter" menu
Review 65:Very clean
Review 66:The chef has an obsession with garlic!!!
Review 67:Shower over bath leaves need improvement. Fire escapes need to be more clearly designated.
Review 68:Central location, great staff, great service.
Review 69:The staff were very good , the room was very comfortable , the location was great .
Review 70:Old world charm and history
Review 71:Restaurant dinner was excellent and good value for a top quality steak. Great friendly service.
Review 72:Loved the ambience and feel of the hotel
Review 73:Parking ticket on arrival
Review 74:Upgrade to suite. Evening meal in the bistro was great especially the entree of Tempura Oysters.
Review 75:Jason at reception was incredibly helpful. We can really recommend this hotel. It should have 5 stars.
Review 76:Difficult to boil jug very little shelving or storage in bathroom
Review 77:The well appointed bar and the music
Review 78:Food was mediocre...sorry!
Review 79:Location
Review 80:A bit over priced
Review 81:The lovely heritage building and great service
Review 82:Very central, staff very helpful
Review 83:beautiful property and cheerful and helpful staff
Review 84:All to my expectations
Review 85:the whole atmosphere everyone friendly & Helpful
Review 86:Convenient location. Beautiful building, quiet atmosphere, and welcoming staff.
Review 87:The décor, comfort and ambiance
Review 88:ambience, location, friendly staff, quiet,
Review 89:Pokies hall adjacent to dining room somewhat surprising
Review 90:Ambience, decor and attention to detail.
Review 91:Breakfast was basic and the rates were a bit expensive
Review 92:Charming decor and building, great location.
Review 93:No Cable TV Volume on TV set to low

Review 100:Old style, well renovated, warm room, complimentary valet parking, good breakfast
Review 101:Beautifully decorated, comfortable and excellent service. Would definitely stay again.
Review 102:We had to leave!
Review 103:This is the hotel we love staying at when in Ballarat. Service is always excellent staff are fantastic and Helpful. Accomodation is comfortable and very clean and tidy. The cleaning staff should be commended.
Review 104:Wanted to do the ghost tour but no-one at reception could give me any information on when it was on, where to go - but I found the info (too late to do it) in brochure that reception had on display. Other than that - staff were superb.
Review 105:Rooms comfortable and beds lovely. Really nice and quiet. Grand old beautiful hotel with lovely atmosphere. Breakfast and breakfast room gorgeous.
Review 106:Bed was a little too hard for my liking. Standard room a little small. Ancient lift and different levels on same floor involving steps.
Review 107:Old world charm. Historic buildings. Nice restaurant. WiFi included. Excellent service. Parking available (free) in courtyard but only by valet method. Good location in centre of town close to attractions.
Review 108:The lift, although in keeping with the building, is a clunker and needs upgrading.
Review 109:The ambience. Quality restoration/furnishing. The location. A real experience to stay there.
Review 110:The toilet was positioned so far into the corner of the bathroom thatthe toilet roll holder was pushing uncomfortably into my left arm. Theshower screen was innefective and the floor got soaked, the floordrained badly leaving a pool of water.
Review 111:Very helpful and friendly staff. Restaurant was excellent. The hotel wasvery stylish and the decor was lovely.
Review 112:The room was too cluttered /wardrobes and chest of drawers taking up too much space The bed was too high No comfortable chairs at height suitable for an average person No coffee table No way you could relax in room No toilet brush
Review 113:Ensuite excellent but crammed
Review 114:Some of the staff in the restaurant at breakfast on Sunday our check out seemed to be a tad cranky this was quite noticeable .
Review 115:the booking in staff along with the bar staff were a good advert for great customer service & smiled, joked, chatted over a hectic couple of days at the hotel...great few days in a beautiful, classic hotel.
Review 116:price. I have stayed in some 5 star venues world wide and for $320 AUD equivalent the venues are far more spacious and very swish. I consider special deals where you through in lunch, overnight accommodation plus breakfast and perhaps a late check out at 11 am is more appealing. special deals should be offered if you have already stayed once and have booked ,or thinking about staying again. I don't think families with older children are encouraged. The Craig Hotel, from my impression seems to prefer couples.
Review 117:food is of very good quality, fresh, creative and well presented. customer service was very good i.e the staff attended to our individual needs as required. valet parking an excellent service.
Review 118:Breakfast staff were awful, we didn't even bother getting anyin the end.Very rude making us wait on our own whilst they made coffee for other seated guests At $380 a night, we expected a heap better service
Review 119:Location and nice heritage
Review 120:Average to poor service for the rates charged. Our deal included a continental breakfast. Joan (I took her name) was extremely rude and failed to provide any service at all after 40 minutes of waiting to be served we had to walk up to the other waitress to place an order for coffee, not good enough. This was s special occasion for me celebrating my 40th birthday. As a result I would not recommend Craig's to any of my friends. Craig’s promises to provide exceptional services however it does not. Very disappointing overall.
Review 121:Location Tasteful decor Nice room
Review 122:As there is no after hours room service a stocked bar fridge would be good.
Review 123:Very friendly staff who showed me to the room and when I had a problem with the TV fixed it within 5 minutes. Staff couldn't have been more friendly.
Review 124:Just an observation from my wife--she suggested the windows are badly in need of cleaning! We did have a few minor issues with the heating which pleasingly the staff were able to corrct
Review 125:Craig's Hotel is charming and filled with history. It is high quality and the bistro was excellent for both an informal dinner and for breakfast--the food was very good
Review 126:Loved everything!
Review 127:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The decor of the rooms and the rest of the building was beautiful and worth visiting just to have a look. The location suited my purpose extremely well as I was visiting show at the theatre across the road. A light breakfast was included and was greatefuly accepted. Car parking was availble and inclusive of the price. thanks Robyn
Review 128:Beds are not good.... they need new ones Breakfast included should also be hot.
Review 129:Location was great. Love the fact that its an old hotel and been updated. They upgraded us... Nice Breakfast included
