Reviews for Desert Palms Alice Springs

Review 1:Air conditioner took an hour at least to cool the room, and switched off when we left the room. Then when we returned, had to wait another half hour or more for it to cool the room again. Air conditioner is too small for a room with 5 people in it.

Review 2:The pool is fantastic!

Review 3:Very close to uluru. Staff were great. Breakfast staff were great... breakfast chef was friendly & cooked our breakfast perfectly. Sophie was fantastic with her massages

Review 4:The entrance gate is too close to the key pad. We had a compact car, and felt like we were hitting the gate in order to reach the key pad. The A/C smells in our villa (915), and the shower will get water everywhere despite the curtain. The Wifi is slow, and at times had trouble loading pages, perhaps it's an Alice Spring thing.

Review 5:The hotel is kept very well. We had our own villa with a fully functional kitchen. It has laundry room at a convenient location, although it costs $10 per load. The parking is free of charge and is very secure.

Review 6:Asked for a different bedspread as it was dirty and when we returned bed had just been remade and had same dirty bedspread. Carpet had some sort of stains on it as well as spots of white paint on it may because room had been repainted. Face washer was completely worn out and needed to be binned. Was charged a 1.5% card booking fee not indicated anywhere when booking only shown on counter when paying, but refunded when I complained not in brochure.

Review 7:They did not do any major house keeping during our stay (four nights). They just came and put some milk and change the rubbish bin's bag. They never vacuumed our villa and at the last day of our stay, we had to wear slippers because there were so many dirt on the floor. Also, all the utensils (cutlery, electric kettle, pots and lids...) were not clean and there were some tracks of dust in all the desks and tables.

Review 8:Location was good. Private entrance was good.

Review 9:Some bulbs in in room were defect.

Review 10:It was possible to park the car in front of the rooms. The rooms have had a very nice terrace and the pool was nice after a hot day. The location between a lot of palms is beautiful and the hotel is located close to downtown.

Review 11:I had chosen the place partly because of the pictures of the lovely pool and surroundings to be able to swim and relax after a tour since it was very hot. The sides of the pool were mouldy and it obviously had not been maintained for a while. Both my husband and I took one look and decided not to go in. The room and bathroom need updating. The kitchen had basic equipment to cook with, but was ok.

Review 12:Staff were nice and helpful. The reception had a little shop to buy some basic groceries which was great. The location was good, a little out of town but within walking distance to other hotels with restaurants. There was a laundry room which was convenient.

Review 13:No net curtains so had to have curtains closed all time. Security not too good. difficult to lock sliding door. Having to pay a deposit for a hair dryer and go to reception to get one.

Review 14:Bed comfortable

Review 15:Our booking for the restaurant has been cancelled (for a group). The WiFi was not available in the room. Swimming pool very small and not cleanned, Price for the breakfast disproportionate...

Review 16:Location close to Ayes Rock and Olgas

Review 17:The location is great and the layout of the park is ideal with enough space for parking, facilities are close to most rooms. Staff were friendly and flexiable and the reception has a good selection of items for sale. Pool is great.

Review 18:It was disappointing that both times we stayed there the rooms smelt and were not very clean. The cleaners really need to look up more as there were cobwebs everywhere.

Review 19:Conveniently located and ideal parking since we were towing a trailer.

Review 20:- location, about 10 -15 minutes walk from the centre of Alice Springs; not so close to be surrounded by the town but not so far away to be inaccessible - staff, very helpful and friendly. - pool area :-) - luggage storage!

Review 21:.

Review 22:Room had a view of Uluru. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very good You can eat in any restaurant in any hotel in the resort and change back to your room. Effectively all the There are several free things to do in hotel or next door: -the 50 min guided walk around the hotel to learn those which Aboriginals and for what was excellent - the Museum and gallery was v good - the Story play (50 mins) in the theatre was well done

Review 23:The golf clubhouse next door for a nice meal in the evenings! This is a good basic hotel with self-catering facilities. You had everything you need ideal for 1-2 nights stay.

Review 24:Nothing that we did not like and have already recommended it to other family members who may plan to visit next year.

Review 25:We work about 130km out of Alice Springs and it was so nice to have palm trees, greenery and the pool. A nice little oasis in the desert.

Review 26:Stayed twice in two different rooms and there was a musty (drain like) odor in the room. I also found the air conditioner to be inconsistent.

Review 27:I liked that it was self contained.

Review 28:Unable to maintain air-con while out sightseeing as the 'only' door key turned the air-con on. Coming back to a warm room after being out in 38 degree heat wasnt what i expected. I can uderstand that this is a cost saving measure? ....

Review 29:The palms provide wonderful shade! +very good value for money. +private. +comfortable beds. +easy access to town & restaurants.

Review 30:Toilet was leaking, badly, took 24hrs to fix it

Review 31:Pool was very inviting but chilly so didn't stay in for long. We were there for a family wedding so walking distance to GC & family home.

Review 32:Location was excellent if you want to go to the Casino. If not it is a solid walk into the city centre. There is a lot of traffic all night along the road for the casino.

Review 33:The room had reasonable facilities for self catering. The pool and surrounds made the view out the door very relaxing.

Review 34:The parking and access steps to the villa. No 160 could have had the access steps the other end. The loud music from the football club neighbours

Review 35:The reception staff were very helpful and nice. Able to get resupply from the reception if the housekeeping didn't supply.

Review 36:Need security screen so that the air con did not have to run all night. To many set up for family's we would have like to sit at a table inside

Review 37:Good location clean pleasant staff

Review 38:Room smelt strongly of rancid cooking oil. Smell was possibly in soft furnishings (absorbed). No windows to open. Only a sliding door which was not safe (as told by staff) to leave door open.

Review 39:The green palms. Quiet.

Review 40:No bad experiences within the complex, but there was a very rowdy party at the nearby golf course that went on well into the night, that interrupted our sleep.

Review 41:Very Compact accommodation with everything we could ask for. Our North facing unit gave us so much privacy, and gave us the feeling of being away from it all. Units numbered in the thirties would be my selection if we visited again.

Review 42:We had two 3 night stays, 10 days apart and the second room was a bit tired with worn covers. Cleaning service not as good as the first stay.

Review 43:Nice pool area, convenient to town. Good BBQ area. Reception staff helpful. Golf club good for meals -through the back fence!

Review 44:Property is in a good location. It's not right in town centre so is a bit quieter, but still close enough to town not to be a problem. It's opposite Todd River and a good walking/cycling track & just down the road from the casino. It backs on to the golf course. Accommodation is in self contained Villas and are very private with a nice verandah for breakfast or an afternoon 'sundowner' :) Rooms are a bit dated, but fine. Cleanliness was good. The pool area is lovely. Excellent value for money. We stayed for 3 nights and didn't want to leave.

Review 45:Ask for room at frount as we had high fence with razor wire to look at ...stools are not comfortable for over 60s after a long drive.

Review 46:It was ok private and quiet.

Review 47:Not clean. There was the previous customer's garbage in the room when we moved in. Next day they forgot to clean our room, bring fresh towels and make the bed. We found the pots unclean with grease in them and tea cattle stored with water in it.

Review 48:General setting, small balcony and friendly staff

Review 49:It is a bit of a walk from the centre of town but this should not stop anyone from booking.

Review 50:Very attractive and inviting view from the street. I had very good units near the pool. Some may not be so attractive but it is great that they are separate units.

Review 51:The single bed mattress needs replacing. Also kitchen cupboards need some repairs so the mice cannot get in!

Review 52:Good location excellent laundry facility.

Review 53:Not much not to look. Very accommodating staff and good facilities

Review 54:The rooms were clean and well appointed. The air conditioner was a little challenging but was a cosy room

Review 55:Unfortunately the sink is leaking, but it didn't affect our stay.

Review 56:Perfect for a group and friends, decent size of room and toilet. Kitchen facilities are great. Very friendly staff for a late checkout

Review 57:Nothing bad

Review 58:Desert Palms is one of the budget options for Alice Springs but it was very clean, had a fridge, microwave and basic cooking facilities. A small veranda out the front to relax on and parking outside the door. Beds were comfortable. I especially liked that you have your own cabin so no shared walls. The pool looked good and clean

Review 59:We were late and the lovely lady who was on greeted us with a smile and wealth of information The room was great ,the shower was amazing ,the kitchette provided us with everything we needed and the bed we slepted like logs this was great value for money

Review 60:Small bathroom, not close to town (but easy walk), loud people staying

Review 61:Free wi-fi, comfortable bed, handy kitchen, close to convention centre for attending conference

Review 62:- room can get quite dark as there is minimal lighting in the room. During the day, you can open the curtains, but that means that anyone walking down the street can see inside your room - the switch to activate the lights is in the middle of the room (vs being right next to the door/entrance), so if youre arriving in your room at night, you first need to feel your way in the dark before you can turn on the lights - no restaurant : you need to walk to the hotels next door if you want to eat - if you dont have a car, location may not be ideal as its a few min away from the city center with all the shops

Review 63:- room was big with many beds (good if youre staying as a big group, although not very useful if youre just by yourself or staying as a couple) - there's a mini kitchen with pots, pans you can use in case you feel like cooking (which we didnt); they provide a kitchen towel, sponge and dishwashing liquid as well. - if you rented a car/campervan, you can park on the street right outside your room. The proximity is convenient esp if you need to do any repacking. - its got all the basic amenities like a hot shower, toiletries, towels, ref - i like that each room is basically its own solo house so it gives the illusion of being in a resort - right beside the Hilton hotel so its convenient if you want to eat there (although make a reservation as we saw it can get quite full during dinnertime) - overall an average place to stay As long as you dont expect luxury or hotel standards, this motel-type accommodations which would suit your basic needs.

Review 64:Wifi was poor, kept dropping out. Lighting was very poor. White towels were grey and not too clean. Stains on blankets and pillowcases. The kitchenette was very small, and very basically equipped. No small frypan, just a huge electric pan which was way too big for just two people. Not really a 'resort', more like holiday cabins. Parking was not available close to our room, so had to carry our bags a fair way in the rain.

Review 65:Very very basic self-catering and from the description, I expected 2 rooms, not one. Awkward as I was travelling with a friend of the opposite sex and chose Desert Palms 3-bed because it sounded as if that meant 2 rooms.

Review 66:Comfortable bed

Review 67:There was a mix up with reception who had ordered me a transfer for the airport for 11.30 next day and they sent it for 10.30 which was too early (and I wasn't ready) Had to get a taxi instead.

Review 68:Spacious room, very clean and fresh. Close to good quality restaurants and a short walk into town. Laundrette facilities good.

Review 69:Our studio wasn't very secure. Don't try to pat the dogs.

Review 70:Nice little self contained studios with a good pool area to relax by. Very close to golf course and botanical gardens.

Review 71:The cleaning was pretty hit-and-miss. We stayed for 2 weeks and were told we were on a weekly clean, but even that wasn't very thorough. However any needs like fresh towels or tea/coffee/milk were immediately and generously attended to.

Review 72:The location was quiet, being outside of the town centre (but still within 20-30 mins walking distance). The villa itself had a lovely ambiance. Reception staff were responsive to any requests and helpful with info.

Review 73:Our room was next to the road and walls aren't soundproof. Carpet, bed cover and towels were stained and the bathroom floor sticky. This accommodation definitely needs an uplift!

Review 74:Coffee and tea in the room, close driving distance to the town centre and Desert Park, free parking, free wifi (but painfully slow) and very nice and helpful staff.

Review 75:The office receptionist wasn't very welcoming , especially on arrival and when I went to buy something prior to the closing time they had shut the office - she relented when I pressed - but felt like I was a bother even though the information clearly said office open till 8pm

Review 76:Close to town and the Botanic Gardens Neat, clean and comfortable

Review 77:Cramped room for a family of 5, no room for luggage, cold showers, the BBQ area was not user friendly and not clean, we were in Alice for 5 nights, one was a struggle in this facility.

Review 78:Lots of dust under the beds. No response when we told we had stayed before a long time ago and now returned with our kids

Review 79:Return after 19 years, not much changed. Villas were fin

Review 80:The price for breakfast was ludicrously high $20, and not very good either. Dinner prices even worse. A very long distance from the car to the rooms.

Review 81:Room was well equipped and comfortable, and quiet. The room price was about right, totally unlike the restaurant prices. Odd!

Review 82:Complained about dripping tap which didn't get fixed after 4 days. Also some people who were obviously staying long term were doing major car repairs outside their villas which made it look really untidy.

Review 83:Villa was s good size and clean.close to town and walking distance to casino. Staff were friendly. Pool looked nice.

Review 84:The verandah was opposite a busy laundry and there was no screening curtin so we were very exposed. Not ver private or quiet. There was no breakfas. You had to bring it yourself.

Review 85:On third night of stay, even though housekeeping sign had been left out we came back to a room that had not been cleaned, beds unmade and a pile of wet dirty towels in the shower.

Review 86:A few ore implements could be in the kitchen ...no big drama really

Review 87:Excellent accommodation.. close to everything ...well appointed..quiet surrounds...warm and comfortable.

Review 88:Some issues with Wi-Fi... Though eventually the connection was good and reliable.

Review 89:Thoughtful and geniually friendly personnel. Unlike most of the hotels in Australia outback we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist despite of our foreign accent...

Review 90:The en suite bathroom had a water problem (unit 178). Water appeared to be seeping under the wall from an adjoining unit and would run across the floor, keeping mainly to the grouting between the tiles, and finally run down the shower waste. My wife slipped on the wet floor one morning (after it had spent the night accumulating). Each morning we had to wipe out the en suite floor so it was usable. The toilet also kept running after flushing usually but not always.

Review 91:Location excellent, handy to town but quiet

Review 92:In full winter the heaters are barely able to keep the room warm

Review 93:The room was cozy and it was a nice stay overall. Having the double tree hotel restaurant close is very handy for dinner and breakfast. Also the reception has a small store with essential goods and grocery in case of "emergency".

Review 94:It is a bit far from the CBD for a walk into town being on the other side of the (usually dry) Todd River.

Review 95:In order to be sure all guests have adequate bandwidth, they have two SSIDs covering different areas of the establishment. There was no limitation on the number of devices that could be connected and bandwidth was very good.

Review 96:No towels, had to ask for them in the morning Also the air/heating was not working ask the reception to address this in the morning not sorted ask again in the evening not sorted despite staff assurance they would come to the room Evening staff member advised she knocked off in 30 mins and would come to room but didn't Alice springs is bloody cold over night This is the first time I decided to give another place a chance instead of lassiters where I normally stay and take visitors won't be doing it agai

Review 97:Location

Review 98:Its not really a complaint or anything, its just that the place is a bit tired looking. Maybe a fresh lick of paint, new showerhead and taps in the kitchen would really pick the place up a bit. Toaster went on the fritz, but was replaced the very next day. If you want a place with a massive TV, this is not for you as the TV is small, but not a problem for me. One complaint - Get rid of the tissue style toilet paper and use rolls! I ended up buying my own. And maybe extend reception a bit longer then 8pm?

Review 99:All staff were friendly. The villa was comfortable and it was nice and quiet where I was. Free wifi is always a bonus when staying somewhere and was very handy to have. Kitchenette is ideal so you don't have to eat out all the time. Was able to utilise reception to book a tour for me too.

Review 100:The TV was far too small and there wasn't enough kitchen space to realistically make meals, even though the basic equipment was there.

Review 101:The room was well equipped and quiet. There was good room space with very good facilities.

Review 102:Nothing, it is a great set up and good value for money

Review 103:Greeted by a receptionist who was originally from Melbourne who was fantastic. Gave me suggestions for dinner and tips on security.

Review 104:Average for cleanliness. Stained carpet and sheeting, shower required some attention (soap scum build up on shower head). Fridge had not been cleaned.

Review 105:Friendly staff, quiet location close to restaurants and casino. 20 minute leisurely walk to town centre. Heating and aircon made the room comfortable.

Review 106:A little too far out of the town centre to walk but approx $12 in a taxi

Review 107:Clean and tidy rooms. Comfortable beds. Extremely helpful staff. Great facilities.

Review 108:Room was overcrowded with two not wanted single beds in addition to Queen bed. Design of rooms means ventilation is difficult as no windows.

Review 109:Stand alone room with good kitchen facility

Review 110:Checked in late and the reception stff helped us after a difficult 12 hour trip to arrive here. Good laundry and pool. Nice and quiet, good self catering facilities.

Review 111:Benches are well marked and chipped and on general place is in need if some repair.

Review 112:Position was good for town and a few of the attractions . Great security lightning - important for this part if town near the river bed.

Review 113:Had queen bed and 2 single beds for one couple. Would have preferred one bed with sofa and table and chairs. Quite cramped and no screen on doors. Glad there were no flies around!

Review 114:Nothing!

Review 115:All needs catered for. Comfortable room. Privacy on own porch due to all the lovely palm Trees. Staff very friendly. Property maintained well over all. Wrong time of year to use the pool, but that looks lovely too.

Review 116:What's not to like? You do need your own transport in Alice Springs but that should be a given in outback Australia.

Review 117:Individual cabin style accommodation in a nice, quiet secure setting. It's within an easy walk to the botanical gardens, which boasts one of the towns most attractive cafes.

Review 118:The pool needs a clean!

Review 119:Self contained studio Vila was perfect for us, electric hob heated up very fast. The place felt nice and private with the large Palm tree infront of the porch.

Review 120:Desert Palms is an excellent place to stay with friends, family or just as a couple. Bed was superb, mornings quiet and TV and kitchen corner were a nice touch. If you have a car then parkings is just in front of your door. Overall good experience!

Review 121:It was all one room and it was not very clean, there were dead cockroaches in the bathroom. There were live cockroaches in the kitchen and the dishes were not clean. It also smelled like sewage for the first day.

Review 122:Location was good.

Review 123:The resort badly needs maintenance and renovation. No table, no chairs, no lounge in the room - the venue is unsuitable for a stay longer than 1 night. All taps leaking.

Review 124:Quiet location, close to the casino.

Review 125:These are individual cabins. Very comfy bed and good shower. Good value for money as we paid a very reasonable price. Free wifi even if the signal was weak. Pool area pleasant. Decor was a little bit "tired" in our cabin. Would stay again for a similar price.

Review 126:Wifi was weak/slow. There was no corkscrew.

Review 127:Great location and facilities. Room close to pool, and very comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 128:Your room has no privacy. The only natural light source is the two double sliding doors and everyone can see straight in. It was very uncomfortable. it was like a prison. It was very noisy on Sunday night with a party starting about 2am and literally going until sunrise. The management seemed not to notice as there were people with beer in hand wandering around, fire works going off. If you do want to stay here request a room that is off the main drag and not overlooked by rooms opposite.

Review 129:The hotel is situated about 1km out of town and away from the hassle of the locals and the locals do hassle. The Aboriginal people are very aggressive.

Review 130:On our last night, the cyclists were letting off fire crackers in the complex, playing loud music at 5am and were partying all night.

Review 131:Kitchenette. It's a nice place to stay.

Review 132:The cleanliness or lack of it, found hair in gathroom sink and second day of stay bedspread thrown over unmade bed!

Review 133:Location and having a small kitchen

Review 134:The pool had algae in it and had to be emptied out and cleaned. We had our children swimming in here beforehand - there was no warning or follow up. Middle of March and no pool. We chose this place only because of the pool. We could not park our car out the front of the unit due not enough room being available most nights.

Review 135:The shower had very good water pressure. The air conditioning was good.
