Reviews for Hotel Chellah

Review 1:The amenities promised on the hotel website were not actually available. Really dingy rooms. The front desk staff was not very helpful and did not seem excited to be there at all.

Review 2:The wifi is the only fault this hotel has but this is the same all over Tanger, wifi technology needs vast improvements & investment!

Review 3:Nice receptionist friendly & so was the concierge very nice man, nice safe location just off the main boulevard nice & quiet at night!

Review 4:Relaxing and accommodating, I feel like it's my second home. The helpful and charming Muhammed on the desk just one of the many gems on the staff.

Review 5:no hot water staff unfriendly everything was old, rooms are like George Orwell's described it in '1984'

Review 6:nothing much.. the old carpet in the lounge

Review 7:Parking is on street and can be hard to find no WIFI connection in rooms only able to connect to free wifi in hotel lobby area Room size but for the price can't complain

Review 8:Good location walking distance to city centre Nice clean rooms Clean Bathroom Friendly Staff

Review 9:The hotel is old and the pictures are deceiving. The staff are ok but one particular woman at reception was awful. We booked a triple room but when she realised that we were only 2 she put us in a double and was only going to refund the hotel taxes of 2 pounds a day for 3 days. She thought she was clever! We had a flood in our bathroom on one day and on the last day my parents had a flood in their bathroom. Our tv was not working and had to wait for 30 mins to get it fixed. When we had the flood they moved us in a suite...i wish they didnt...the fridge was right next to the bed so noisy all night...the tv was not working...but by then i had enough of complaining so i did not say anything. The suite was on the main road so you could hear all the noises from the street. On our check out i demanded a reduction in our bill...after alot of fuss from their side they reduced a pathetic 36 pounds based on 2 rooms for 3 nights. They actually wanted to give us a packed lunch instead to take away with us...appaling. I only wish i was alone as I would not have paid a penny but being with family I had to be reasonable for their sake.

Review 10:The only good thing about this hotel is the swimming pool and lounge area that goes with it.

Review 11:No breakfast included, bathroom stank and was not clean, room was incredibly loud, AC didn't work so we had to keep the window open, no towels allowed to schwimming pool, check in with loads of problems. Not recommended

Review 12:Cabs do not want to deliver you to the door, as the street is narrow.

Review 13:The helpful manager keeps small delightful creatures in the dual pleasantly greened courtyards.

Review 14:Great location if you want to be just a bit outside of the medina. Hotel has great character and a decent staff. I recommend getting a room with a balcony overlooking the pool.

Review 15:a bit old-fashioned and old. we booked it because of the reduced price but for the full price the room has to be renovated.

Review 16:good wi-fi coverage pool! location

Review 17:Nothing.

Review 18:The pool and the gardens are wonderful, the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel is spacious and well-kept, and in an ideal location for exploring Tánger, both the city and the beaches. Plus it's a big historic hotel, so all the taxi drivers know where it is, and there's a grand taxi rank right outside the door. Highly recommended and excellent value for money. We shall be staying here again!

Review 19:One thing that I didn't get to like is that the shutter window in our room in broken that we could not adjust it. me and my husband get our heads bumped into it a couple of times. We reported it to the staff but no action was made.

Review 20:good value for money.

Review 21:Bathroom was a little tired, but clean. Had to stand in the corridor to use wifi.

Review 22:Very good value for money. Medina and beach within walking distance. Excellent pool.

Review 23:Very pleasant and helpful staff, good location, big and comfortable room, nice garden with a swimming pool. It is not said, but there is a small but available and free parking in the backyard.

Review 24:Breakfast was not included in the price and although there was a lot of choice there were less traditional moroccon options. The staff were not always helpful but we had a pleasant stay.

Review 25:The room was comfortable and had a bath which was appreciated. There was a swimming pool and a feel of being away from the hustle and bustle of the streets.

Review 26:Wifi could be better in the upper rooms

Review 27:Location is excellent get out of the hotel take a right and walk for few mins and on main road, taxi to city centre 10 dirhams 5 mins. hotel is you get what you pay for decent beds that you can sleep the night and a shower that freshens you up. Staff very friendly

Review 28:The pictures posted online do not represent the room we had. The bathroom was clean but just hideous and so outdated. The room was not decorated in any fashion, especially not like the beautiful rooms you see in the pics. I chose this hotel for the beautiful romanticly designed rooms, but what I got was an outdated, drab room. Okay for sleeping, but I had no desire to spend any extra time there. Room had a weird smell to it.

Review 29:location was great, with good, cheap food nearby. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Downstairs lobby was very cool.

Review 30:Female receptionist staff they are very bad the gentleman who does reception in the night shift is very good and some of the staff they are good

Review 31:Location is not that bad and the hotel is not that bad but I am very disappointed about the receptionist female staff and other staff they are okay

Review 32:When I'm booking that time show me with room rent have breakfast. but in true I'm very sad to no have any breakfast. Ìts like cheting. And 4 evry parson take 50 dh just 4 breakfast. This is tomuch.

Review 33:Nice place.

Review 34:Wifi intermittent. Worked ok in lobby bur in rooms was on and off.

Review 35:Staff speak English fluently. Very helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast.Comfortable beds and nice facilities. Would stay again without hesitation.

Review 36:The hôtel is Nice. We booked for one night and extended to three nights. The location is good, close to the city centre. The room was clean, staff were nice and helpful.

Review 37:Aircondition didnt work, same with the lamp, which was suppose to be fixed the day after. Got charged twice and now afterwards, you cant contact them... When I managed, they asked to call back 3 hours later with no replay, and no email as the inbox is full.

Review 38:Helpful staff . Ambience . When we got there we had asked Mohamed Moeen to warm up our food and when he brought it back he came with a plate of chicken with vegetables and a plate of chips that he said was compliments of the chef . Breakfast was very good , fresh rotis prepared while you having your breakfast . Will definitely recommend this hotel :

Review 39:- Very old. - No facilities of any kind. - No shower gel, no iron, no safe, no kettle, no mini bar. - Poor breakfast. - Old furniture. - Towels and pillow covers are smelly or yellowish.

Review 40:- Location. - Staff. - Price.

Review 41:Asked at booking bed and there was not. I did not take the printed confirmation because I was traveling and could not print and the front desk were not friendly towards such a situation.

Review 42:Being a typical Brit.,I always hope everyone abroad speaks English. Although I believe your website states that all reception staff were fluent in many languages, I found it hard to be understood sometimes. A very minor criticism, I always managed to cope.

Review 43:First and foremost the cleaning staff were magnificent. Friendly and cheerful, they deserve the highest commendation. Service in the restaurant was also first class. This was my fourth visit to The Chellah. I hope it was not my last.

Review 44:nothing really. It's not incredibly close to the medina but it was still an easy walk. That was probably the only downside.

Review 45:The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They arranged a great taxi and guide for us. The bed was very comfortable. The room was very clean. The lobby was in great condition and it felt like an old movie. The breakfast was delicious (not included but well worth the extra). The pool was nice and large.

Review 46:Staff were a little laid back at times and couldn't deal with a simple taxi booking at first request.

Review 47:A large central site with the hotel having a pool and garden to relax in. Our guide told us the hotel had been a long time favourite with Brits and whilst it felt a little staid it had full A/C, Satellite TV and free Wifi. Location is not far from the main drag and there are authentic tea shops and eating places close by. We'd definitely stay again.

Review 48:I didn't use the pool, but it looked a little uncared for -leaves sitting on the bottom and the water not quite crystal clear.

Review 49:Close to everything - including the beach and the Medina area, without being right in it. Really good pricing for a room that size and with a balcony.

Review 50:in what could probably be the last attempt to rescue the hotels reputation the reception staff give a really bad first impression to the hotel (i never complain look at my previous reviews)... seriously ... i had 14 family members almost staying at that hotel because my parents reccomended it but the negativity of the reception staff meant i had to put my money ( €2500.00+) in a nearby hotel elsewhere and i will never stay there again

Review 51:chellah is showing age now but is still a nice hotel with clean rooms offering a hearty moroccan breakfast in a cracking location if u dont mind dirty looks off the receptionists its the place to go

Review 52:We had a room overlooking the road outside & it was very noisy. Overall, the hotel was adequate but was tired looking. It was celebrating its 50th year of opening & some areas looked as if they had been untouched for all that time!!

Review 53:The breakfasts were good with an extensive choice. The pool & garden area was nice

Review 54:TV defect, bathroom old and bad smelling, very old furniture. a minibar to keep at least some cold water would be a good idea. pool closing time to early

Review 55:the pool and garden were ok and location within walking distance to the medina . a acima supermarcet was nearby to shop some drinks and other things

Review 56:That the rooms were not ready when we arrived this was understandable because we were early but when we got back after lunch at 3.30 we were given a room that was occupied and then when they have us a second room it was not ready. We were really tired and needed to shower and rest and we had to wait for the beds to be done and the bathroom cleaned and new towels put in. We were quite frustrated by then. Other than that all was oksy

Review 57:It was comfortable and clean

Review 58:It was my first time in Tanga and the hotel staff made me and my partner feel at home. They were very helpfull and kind, the breakfast we hat every morning was also very good and again the staff was great. The swimmingpool and garden is really great to spend a day at or like we have done have a evening picnic in the garden. Around the corner is a friendly supermarket where they speak French and arabic and also helpfull in your needs, in all I will book this hotel again like I already have done.

Review 59:Super little hotel. It was probably one of THE addresses in Tangiers in its heyday, but like loads of the rest of the city, little has been done to modernise it since then. However, it was big, bright, clean and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great, loads of variety, and lots of it. And we had a hard time hauling our 6yr old out of the pool, which was big, clean and very inviting on a hot day. We would definately recommend the Hotel Chellah as somewhere cheap, central, welcoming and with loads of character!

Review 60:Avoid the restaurant unless you are fond of 1950s English cooking...fried and breaded greasy chicken patties with boiled potatoes was a new low.

Review 61:Location and price. Nice pool

Review 62:The staff were always on the phone and abrupt. The food was terrible in the restaurant and extremely overpriced. The "airport taxi" they organised was also very expensive.

Review 63:That it was easy to get to from the bus stop. The taxi trip was quite quick.

Review 64:I have never experienced worse personel! They made SO many mistakes (e.g. giving us wrong keys to other peoples rooms several times) and though it's only human to make mistakes, don't expect to be met with any kind of apology, instead they got angry and very rude towards us. I was yelled at when I asked for some ice for my warm glas of water. It seems like the staff doesn't get along and the overall vibe of the place was horrible and made me want to leave as fast as possible. The rooms had their flaws too (the shower didn't work proberly, flushing problems, wifi only works at first floor, the window couldn't open, lightbubls not working and when I asked if the bulb could be changed they became really unkind). Last but not least, don't eat the food there. The breakfast is somewhat decent (warm yougurt, dry-old pastries and overboiled smelly eggs), but dinner is horrible - I got a steak wich couldn't be cut and half cold vegetable from a can. I ate what I could while an angry servant staired at me. I know this sound unbelievable, but trust me, I only wish to warn you. I have travelled a lot over the years and is use to pretty basic places, so my expectations are never to the roof or anything. But this place is hell and I'd rather sleep in the streets of Tangier than going back.
