Reviews for Quality Inn The George Hotel Ballarat
Review 1:No complaints.... would stay there again!
Review 2:A lovely spacious, clean, quiet room - 1st floor Rm 5 - fitted with disabled amenities. Nice to be able to sit out on the upstairs verandah and excellent food and wine options available in The Lane cafe and bar downstairs.
Review 3:The toilet made a tapping sound off and on all the time. We had to move rooms and then the gamblers downstairs kept us awake until after midnight.
Review 4:The location was excellent.
Review 5:Would have liked a room with window view - felt a bit closed in. Area for making cups of tea/coffee very minimal. Also too few teabags for a family room- could have done with a few extra ones. We didn't like the frosted glass bathroom.
Review 6:The proximity of the hotel to the venue we were visiting was very convenient.
Review 7:The door was broken (couldnt lock it) on arrival but staff fixed it straight away. Was fast and attentive service to rectify. No other problems at all.
Review 8:Good location and the room was great value for money. Huge room space in the executive suite with the separate lounge and kitchenette area.
Review 9:The Suite was well designed and had all facilities required. The Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant and cafe outlets provided good food choices.
Review 10:Prostitute knocking on the room door at 10.00 pm and asking " did you ring for a call girl ? " - my wife opened the door to her !
Review 11:Centrally located in the town and made access to everywhere easy. The lane restaurant was also very good
Review 12:They free wifi was always dropping out or would not connect anymore so didn't get use of the free wifi that was on offer. Oh just a tad stuffy not enough fresh air
Review 13:Everything beautiful place highly recommend.
Review 14:Room was great but the frosted glass that is the wall to the bathroom is a little disconcerting at first particularly if you are not a couple! We were in a twin room which was lovely and well appointed if a little dark with no real outside light into the room. For one night though this was more than OK.
Review 15:It is a beautiful hotel which has been lovingly restored and that makes it unique. Easy access to the Hotel bar and eating was great and off street parking also appreciated. Staff were very friendly and it was very quiet.
Review 16:There seemed to be heating on during the night and was hot and had very disturbed sleep.
Review 17:You were happy for us to pay for everything when checking out. Restaurants - the beautiful bottle of wine.Great shower etc facilities in the room.
Review 18:A large modern bathroom nevertheless retained the enjoyable 19th century atmosphere of the room. Proximity to the Art Gallery and the railway station was a great plus. Unpretentious, comfortable, convenient.
Review 19:The room (12), while well appointed, was a little on the dark side, i.e. minimal natural light.
Review 20:Location, availability of off-street parking in centre of town, excellent range of dining facilities, and inclusion of WiFi Internet access.
Review 21:Parking facilities tricky. Did not realise room was internal , without light and room lighting completely inadequate. Nowhere to sit to watch television.
Review 22:All the usual facilities. Available
Review 23:Couldn't find the reception to check in at first and felt very confused on if we were first in the right place . Maybe they can make that a little more clear for guests when they walk in.
Review 24:The man on reception was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and clean and good size - the only thing that surprised me was no air conditioning?? Got very hot in there overnight.
Review 25:The room could have been a little bit more spacious. Austar was not working in our room however the staff did everything they could to assist with this so i believe is was some technical issue.
Review 26:The room was newly renovated and very clean. The staff were super helpful (reception Sat night and all the staff at Lane rest & cafe) and always went out of their way to help. Really yummy food. close to everything!
Review 27:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 28:The room was great, location perfect and the staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. we'll definitely be staying there next time we visit Ballarat.
Review 29:The noise is appalling. You won't get any sleep until after 1 or 2am when the live music stops. This was not explained at all and they were "surprised" it was a problem. They then blamed me for getting a small room, saying the more expensive rooms were quieter. Not a solution.
Review 30:I liked most things about the stay and the location was right in the centre of town which was great.
Review 31:Great staff and hotel in central location. Beautifully outfitted rooms and very quiet and comfortable at affordable price. Would definitely stay again.
Review 32:The pillows were all way to firm for us.
Review 33:Everything was meticulously clean, all staff were so friendly. Trevor the manager was just lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The location was fantastic and the food was delicious. Very warm, friendly atmosphere.
Review 34:Parking was a bit of an issue but again the staff were helpful.
Review 35:The room was well appointed and very comfortable, the bed was good and the bathroom was good, the staff were very helpful.
Review 36:I really liked the central location - no need to use the car to explore the city centre. I wish I had more time to visit other areas and put a longer stay in my diary. I have always loved staying in hotels and your hotel more than fulfilled my expectations.
Review 37:Car park not secure , not much lighting, not sealed or any covered walkway to hotel, poor for this quality of accomodation. Hate to use it in the rain !
Review 38:Clean facilities, friendly staff, good location in town, great service.
Review 39:There were times when reception was unattended during hours of operation. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful thoughco.
Review 40:Loved the location. It was close to public transport, shops, theatre, gallery, visitors information centre, etc. Large TV in the room.
Review 41:Noise from the bar/music until about 1:30am, bathroom was cold and although clean was a little musty smelling.
Review 42:The room was comfy and Free Wifi was great.
Review 43:Excellent location in Ballarat CBD & Uni theatre across the road. Close to excellent restaurants downstairs. great atmosphere, beautifully restored, cosy hotel rooms. Room comes with microwave, toaster & kettle. The most perfect location. Loved this hotel.
Review 44:Despite notifying the office after our 1st night's stay, alas we had 2 sleepless nights, because of the constant running 'dripping sound' of the toilet. By the 3rd night the problem was resolved. (The Manager finally called a plumber!) In recompense for the inconvenience we were offered complimentary continental breakfasts on the last day of our stay.
Review 45:Convenient location
Review 46:Information in room and at check in said reception opened at 7.00am on a Sunday. When we tried to check out was informed that it was 8.00am on a Sunday.had we known this would have checked out the night before as we had a flight to catch.no apology given after we had to contact after hours number.
Review 47:Good location with on site parking
Review 48:Had a toaster but no knife to butter bread. Don't bother with a toaster if utensils aren't supplied.
Review 49:Beautiful place, very quiet rooms despite pokies and nightlife below.
Review 50:Parking confusing and quite limited, which results in having to lug cases through the lane. Check out via the sister hotel a couple of doors down the road - cumbersome and a pain when having to lug cases from a to b then back again!
Review 51:Location central to everything. Renovation of the hotel fantastic, room qite spectacular. Friendly staff.
Review 52:Very quiet, convenient off street parking, very friendly staff - recent quality renovation of a wonderful old 3 storey hotel. Very com fortable beds, and good facilities in room. Better than any motel..
Review 53:Found a nappy in the room. Not soiled though. Cleaners should look around.
Review 54:Hotel right in centre of town and very handy to verything in the city. Only a 5 minute drive to Sovereign Hill. Nice restaurant The Lane attached to the hotel.
Review 55:There is no formal reception desk. Venue is a pub first, hotel 2nd. Although rooms are beautiful the room design is awkward (Rm 17). As you enter the room you walk into the bedroom. The lounge / kitchen area is further into the apartment.
Review 56:Location is perfect. Tastefuly renovated in modern elegant style. Great pizzeria / Italian restaurant.
Review 57:The night club was extremely noisy at night. Found it hard to fall in sleep due to the excessive noise! Won't stay there again.
Review 58:Location is good and the room is new and spacious.
Review 59:Stayed in room 11 - dripping/leaking sound behind toilet system. Complicated parking - more signage would help.
Review 60:Very comfortable and clean with friendly staff.
Review 61:Light at door did not work at all so overall room lighting was quite poor. There was a toaster but no plates or knife to butter your toast!
Review 62:Friendly staff at bistro with good food. Also cleaning and reception staff were helpful
Review 63:Checking in was uncertain as we had to check in via the next door establishment .
Review 64:The dining options were excellent . We had dinner and breakfast and we were very impressed.
Review 65:Amazing value for money, great location and overall wonderful stay at the George. We were there for a wedding on site so loved the fact we just needed to walk down the stairs and there was the party!
Review 66:Dining area in Main bar and tables seemed to have several flying insects around.
Review 67:Room was fine although somewhat noisy on Saturday night with loud music until 1.30am on Sunday.
Review 68:building was a little hot and stuffy. Keep in mind this is a pub that trades til around 12-1am, which wasn't a problem for us as we attended a wedding.
Review 69:comfortable room, everything we needed.
Review 70:All the staff - from the gaming room, the receptionists, the waiters, waitresses and cleaners were outstanding. Nothing was ever too much trouble and all with a smile on their faces. Food was fantastic!
Review 71:The carparking was difficult to find/use. It was busy and finding a carpark out the front was hard before finding out where the car parking was. Service was extremely slow for dinner and breakfast with things forgotten at breakfast. The bed was also small and uncomfortable.
Review 72:It was quiet and quite close to most things
Review 73:We would have liked bar meals to be available the through the day. We sat down at the bar and food wasn't available till 6pm, we would have loved hot food. The cafe has good but when people have travelled they would like something good to snack in with a drink.
Review 74:The beautiful building was renovated very well, but had excellent modern facilities. For how glam it was, the price was great.
Review 75:Could not find fault with anything
Review 76:Great stay, terrific location, hotel staff friendly, helpful. great dinner in Heritage restaurant ( well done Sam) would recommend to anyone.
Review 77:located in the heart of the city , close to absolutely everything . Staff were typically country --ultra friendly and very accomodating . Fantastic menu and area for outdoor relaxing with a drink . couldn't fault The George at all .
Review 78:Two separate Reception locations.Food below standard. Breakfast in a wind-swept alley not acceptable. Parking inadequate and difficult to access.
Review 79:Room was excellent and comfortably furnished. Staff poorly trained but friendly. Central location appreciated.
Review 80:Nothing
Review 81:Large suite with complete kitchen facilities, nice size bathroom, comfortable bed. I'm not sure if internet was free - didn't log on bc I was only here one night.
Review 82:Slight amount of noise from front of the hotel (it was a Friday night and it is a pub)
Review 83:Interior fit out Kitchenette Bed comfort Bathroom beautifully renovated Overall hotel quality
Review 84:We had Family room which was excellent. The glass fronted wet area was a bit challenging. Can't see through but can see whereabouts! We were couple travelling with a friend. Can always do with bit more room in coffee asking area.
Review 85:Location was great. Very gracious decor, clean with comfortable beds. Staff were helpful. Plenty of food choice on premises and in the area.
Review 86:The car park was a long way from the room, better to travel with a small amount of luggage if you stay here. I found the glass bathroom a bit strange.
Review 87:Close to restaurants and in the centre of town
Review 88:Spacious and beautifully decorated rooms. The hotel was centrally located with some many dining options nearby. All the staff we're friendly, thank you for a great stay!
Review 89:Cistern running all night, lighting in bedroom could have been better, it was slightly irritating always having to access Reception staff through teh gaming room. When i first requested an Age be delivered I was told that the hotel could nto offer this service.(Someone in the gaming centre rang someone and then relayed the infromation). I later found it was offered in their information brochure. A phone call resulted in this request being met.
Review 90:Location, sense of history, very good food, spacious, comfortable. When i reported a problem with a running cistern, I was given a generous discount Overall a very enjoyable experience..
Review 91:Couldn't use the oven as there were no instructions on how to use it. The housekeeper didn't know how to operate it either. She said she would tell Trevor but no-one came back to show us how it worked...quite annoying.
Review 92:We liked the separate living area and that the bedroom was shielded from the morning sun...enjoyed the sleep-in.
Review 93:The hotel is located in the town centre. The room is very clean and quite with morden facilities. Excellent hotel restaurant, the best ever pizza we've tried!
Review 94:The noise from the buildings air con was fairly noisy & made it a little hard to sleep
Review 95:Great central location , very helpful staff & very good place to stay
Review 96:Unmanned reception - sign saying Go to Gaming Area. There a member of staff told me to sit down while she would get someone to help. Not what we expected. Also had to walk down road to sister hotel to check out. Covered car park area was filthy - needed sweeping out.
Review 97:Quality of furnishings in bedroom and corridors. Good walk-in shower.
Review 98:The mattress wasn't great.
Review 99:The room was beautiful, modern and perfectly clean. The location could not have been better. The restaurant downstairs serves an excellent breakfast.
Review 100:My husband and I loved the charm of this older hotel with modern facilities in a central location. We'll certainly keep it in mind for another visit.
Review 101:I really like prawn linguine but I don't like garlic and I have yet to find a place that does not put garlic into the dish. However I did not ask if I could have it without garlic.
Review 102:Very clean and well maintained. Liked the security door leading to the rooms - felt more safe because there are a lot of people about at the weekend in the bar.
Review 103:Garage a bit difficult to get in and out of, open air parking easier.
Review 104:Great quality accommodation in the centre of Ballarat, we will come back next year. Great to have parking as well.
Review 105:There wasn't a thing we didn't like!
Review 106:We absolutely loved the hotel-lovely decor, beautiful rooms, most comfortable beds, excellent dining facilities and the food was superb. We would definitely stay at The George Hotel again.
Review 107:Had to do battle with very heavy windows to open and close them.
Review 108:The size of the sitting room and full kitchen. Being put in a suite that would not get the full on noise from live music venues.
Review 109:a little bit of street noice
Review 110:Location is fantastic for all outings and walking distance to all shops. Fantastic beverage and food at the Lane and Cider bar restaurants.
Review 111:The rooms were excellent quality for the price Staff were extremely helpful The hotel was in an excellent position I had dinner and breakfast at this place and the dinner was outstanding and the breakfast was reasonable and quickly served
Review 112:The carpark -very small and hard to get into up that back lane...too dark and cramped...couldn't park a large car in there Being next to the Regent Cinema, the front car parking was always full in the evening too
Review 113:Excellent position in town Lovely modern rooms, with the old world features Helpful staff Great restaurant in The Lane, attached to hotel Very warm!
Review 114:We were amused that we had to go two doors down in Lydiard St to find the reception area. We experienced some difficulty finding the appropriate entrance to the car park from Armstrong St. (Did not see a sign post). It was difficult to wheel our luggage on the stones in the carpark.
Review 115:We liked the way in which the bathroom area was so spacious. The room was very clean and well appointed. The security was second to none. The proximity to the CBD was first class.
Review 116:Lack of offf street parking. Spent 1/2 to3/4 hour driving aroundlooking for a a . park. Hotel staff not very helpful when contactedabout parking. Review 124:The toilet seat was dirty. There were pee stains and some black dirt on it.
Review 125:Location is good. Lots of restaurants nearby.
Review 126:The bed was really uncomfortable. They need to have a much better standard mattress.
Review 127:Nice bathroom and decor. A really lovely old hotel.
Review 128:The room was comfortable with good facilities. We had access to the balcony where we sat drinking pre-dinner champagne - lovely
Review 129:The opaque glass bathroom door - if you didn't know someone was at the basin then you push open the door and almost slice off a toe !
Review 130:Staff very helpful great location
