Reviews for Hotel Napoléon
Review 1:My wife tripped over a badly placed and marked step on the way to the first floor room. The bathroom door handle came away.
Review 2:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ample and had a reasonable variety of food.
Review 3:Reception needs a face lift. Breakfast, while good, could do with a hot option in cold weather - something simple like scrambled or poached eggs and a little pancetta would suffice. There were marks on the bedroom walls and ceiling where guests had killed mozzies, which is not a good look for what was otherwise a very nice room.
Review 4:There was a new bathroom, which was very smart. Also liked the fact the dog was welcome. The staff were very pleasant.
Review 5:90'/80' decor, rooms have limited noise reduction and you can hear your neighbours through gap under the door.
Review 6:The hotel is ok, value for money
Review 7:Our room in front of building was noisy all night long because on very busy street. Room was quite warm and windows needed to be kept open for ventilation.
Review 8:Excellent breakfast and easy to reach from train station by using the Funi bus. Hotel was also close to waterfront, restaurants and shopping.
Review 9:Interior is dated and in poor condition. Elevator dirty, sofas in lobby torn, generally grubby outside the bedrooms. Location is on a main road and VERY NOISY. Don't even think of staying here unless you can get a room at the back. If you are looking for a romantic Tuscan location, go elsewhere! The place is oversold on its website. Best avoided.
Review 10:However the bedroom itself was clean , though zero character.
Review 11:- Unfortunatelly our room was quite noisy in the night, we could hear very well the cars outside (even if we closed the windows) - The air conditioning did not function well. We turned it on and after some minutes it turned off by itself - The mattress was a bit old, not so comfortable - The lamps near the bed were dusty
Review 12:- Location, 10 min walk to the old center of Lucca - Breakfast - Discount Tickets at surrounding restaurants
Review 13:Wifi wouldn't work. Took ages for the air conditioning to work.
Review 14:Decor in bedroom and bathroom modern. Excellent location for Lucca if travelling by car.
Review 15:no WiFi, just a poor hotspot connection in the lobby
Review 16:good location, room with balcony, clean. close to the highway, supermarket and train station. the staff was very nice and helpfull...
Review 17:The room was very crowded, but since we paid for a lower category we were fine with that. Because of the balcony there is no other window so every time you leave the room you leave it with the shade down and it is very dark.
Review 18:The hotel is very hospitable, the location is wonderful, the neighborhood is great, the staff is caring and helpful, the view from the balcony was amazing, the distance to old Lucca was just a few minutes walking, and the hotel was easy to find
Review 19:At times I had a bother with wi fi connections
Review 20:We found the staff were exceptionally helpful courteous and friendly we thought they had the balance right if asking for feedback on local restaurants they couldn't have been better & the staff serving breakfast were really nice ladies never intruded but always made sure you knew if you wanted more coffe etc The staff were efficient & would ask if you prefer tea or coffee & had a sense of urgency of filling up juice or coffee & other things like cereal & yogurts couldn't fault breakfast
Review 21:This place doesn't deserve 4 stars - it's a maximum 3 stars hotel starting from exterior and interior look (looks old), elevator from 19th century, poor breakfast (one type of rubbish ham), very poor Wifi (not working and need to sign in over and over again)
Review 22:It was OK place to sleep for one night, room was clean, good bathroom, free bicycles for visiting Lucca, good restaurant recommendation from staff
Review 23:Our free wifi didn't work in our hotel room, but it did in the lobby. I am not really complaining as we came to Lucca to visit the historic attractions and not stay in our room on the wifi.
Review 24:Location was easy walking distance to the old town of Lucca, the Staff at this hotel are extremely helpful and polite. I would certainly recommend this hotel and stay here again when I visit Lucca.
Review 25:The room is small, it didnt look very clean, when asking for the exlanation why do they sell this room as a four star hotel room the receptionist very unkindly said that we got what we paid for. We paid 80,00 euro per night and nowhere it is said that this is a partial four star hotel but you might get a horrible neither one star room!
Review 26:The location is close to the exit from the highroad, it has a parking (which is not so nice when it raines it is muddy). The lobby looks ok.
Review 27:We were given a room with a broken air conditioning on a hot summer evening and spent the worst hotel night of our lives. No real attempts were made to ameliorate our problems and after complaining upon departure we were reluctantly offered a 10 Euro reduction!!! That is considerable less generosity than the hotel inspectors seemingly showed when they awarded this establishment four, undeserved stars.
Review 28:Easy access from motorway which is outweighed by a noisy and bleak neighborhood.
Review 29:location good. easy walk into the walls. Staff very friendly and helpful. room good size, fab air con! shower big and good. supply of toiletries. cute little balcony. provided free bike hire which was perfrect for Lucca! supermarket nearby also.
Review 30:Our room was unfortunately nothing like the photographs, it seemed like they were renovating and some bedrooms where modern and others...not so much. But they were clean just dated! The free wifi only worked on one device.
Review 31:Hotel was perfectly located if you are travelling with a car, not far to drive off the motorway, and 500m walk to the Lucca Town Centre. The staff were lovely and helpful.
Review 32:The reception clerk was unhelpful. The room was dirty, airconditioner didn't work and we couldn't get a connection to the internet in the room, only in the lobby.
Review 33:The common areas of the hotel are a bit old.
Review 34:The location, the possibility to use the bikes of the hotel, the rooms entirely refurbished. the private carpark.
Review 35:old and tiny room with Old Bathroom, we Changed the room, but Had to pay for The Upgrade . They have Old and new rooms! Dont go for The Old ones!
Review 36:Staff was Nice
Review 37:The carpet in the room was very old and stained and the paintwork on part of the bathroom ceiling was peeling and mildewed.
Review 38:Kind helpful staff. Fresh fruit salad on the breakfast buffet.
Review 39:Noisy rooms on roadside, but it was fixed immediately by a room change to the back side
Review 40:Friendly stuff Bus stop in front of hotel (direct lines to Firenze, Pisa and Viareggio) Excellent coffee at breakfast
Review 41:The location was ideal, as we didn't want to have to drive inside the walls of Lucca, but could walk/cycle the short distance for shopping and dining.
Review 42:For a 4-star hotel it gives the impression of cutting corners. The furniture was minimalist flatpack, with no proper wardrobe and one plastic chair for 2 people. The breakfast was adequate, but bread, cheese and ham were cheapest bulk catering standard. It doesn't compare with the excellent quality of breakfast we had for less money elsewhere in Italy.
Review 43:Very convenient location, just 10 minutes to the centre once you find the short cut away from the horrendously busy main road. Comfortable lounge area.
Review 44:The front desk staff. Unwilling or unable to correct any issues with the room and the lack of wi-fi in the room. No grounds, no laundry. Bar is unstaffed so no help there. General feeling of lack of interest in their guests or hotel.
Review 45:The breakfast was good and the breakfast staff were very nice and friendly.
Review 46:Wi fi didn't work well in our room, so had to go down to reception area and there it was fine
Review 47:Lovely staff Nice breakfast Lovely decor Great shower Free parking only 10 min walk to medieval Lucca
Review 48:Our room was terrible.we were offered the 5th floor with balcony. Lift only goes to the 4 th floor. Stairway to the fifth floor is narrow and has a broken step. Room needs updating. We were then offered a room on the 3rd floor. Air con didn't work. We were so tired of moving we just went with it. The chap at the desk tried to sell us an upgrade. But we felt we were already overpaying for the location of the hotel and the state the hotel was in. We had already booked a room that was supposed to have air conditioning. This had a unit that just didnt work. Very noisy at the fron of the hotel. It is located on a main thoroughfare. Very dangerous to walk in the evening.
Review 49:The day manager was very helpful.
Review 50:The towels in the room were dirty, the breakfast was poor quality and the coffee served at breakfast was of very poor quality
Review 51:Location near Lucca's historic center, decent price
Review 52:There was nothing wrong with the hotel but there are better hotels in the city for the price.
Review 53:It had a good location with easy access to the city. It was clean and the staff were friendly.
Review 54:Very helpful friendly staff & excellent breakfast buffet with made to order cappucino!
Review 55:We were charged an extra night because we checked out the next day
Review 56:It definitely is not 4 star quality
Review 57:Location
Review 58:Poor breakfast. Bed not great, sheets etc not big enough.
Review 59:Friendly staff. Easy walk to Lucca town.
Review 60:Our second visit. Convenient and comfortable.
Review 61:Beautiful bathroom, large bedroom, excellent breakfast
Review 62:A black-and-white copy of a city plan instead of the city map
Review 63:Shampoo and shower gel with natural ingredients.
Review 64:Room needed to be cleaner. Shower in the bathroom had no light and was bit scary.
Review 65:Free parking. Good location. Big room.
Review 66:WiFi not great, room a bit small
Review 67:Enjoyed stay - location excellent and the bikes were great
Review 68:No restaurant in the evening
Review 69:Breakfast, bathroom
Review 70:Availability of city bikes, very nice to ride on the city walls. Renovated hotel rooms. Helpfull staff. Private parking behind hotel.
Review 71:Wifi
Review 72:The Wi-Fi only worked in the hallway.
Review 73:Friendly staff and the location and free parking
Review 74:Good breakfast
Review 75:It was 1.2 km out of the city and no restaurant
Review 76:Clean and comfortable quiet it suited our needs
Review 77:Poor bar facilities no sun bathing area
Review 78:Good rooms and friendly staff Ln reception
Review 79:Bar service was very slow
Review 80:Clean and comfortable room
Review 81:Very helpful staff, comfortable beds and cleanliness. Excellent breakfast.
Review 82:The walk to the centre was not pleasant (busy road, narrow pavement)
Review 83:Quite near centre with parking
Review 84:Wifi would only connect to one device. Air con worked when it felt like it
Review 85:The bar next door was ace
Review 86:No wifi in rooms, only in a main lobby
Review 87:Staff is friendly
Review 88:Location is further from historical downtown than we thought. Ok if you bike.
Review 89:Free bikes to get into town.
Review 90:Personeel zeer behulpzaam en vriendelijk.
Review 91:Internet.
Review 92:O atendimento e localização óyimos.
Review 93:Wifi - dropping out all the time and having to log in. the comfortable foyer area worked well
Review 94:Everything was great especially Renato and his cats.
Review 95:The hotel is on a main road, so its very noisy.
Review 96:We had two of the upgraded rooms, which are very modern and stylish.
Review 97:Staff really helpful Good breakfast 10 min walk direct into Lucca on pavements (good directions from the staff)
Review 98:Parked the car and used the hotel bikes everyday to visit the city... literally 5 mins away!
Review 99:Noise from returant next door
Review 100:Charged 3 euro for an espresso
Review 101:Easy to find from lucca est renovated room but extremely small
Review 102:nothing
Review 103:Staff, location and comfort
Review 104:Staff,breakfast
Review 105:Very friendly and helpfull staff, specially Renato, who provided me very useful information about the city and gave me great recomendations for restaurants! Hotel is out of historical center (which makes it more affordable), but it is very easy to acess the "wall" that takes you to the historical center. Besides that, the hotel provides bikes without additional costs. I got my bike at 9am and returned it at 10pm, after going around the whole city and enjoying beautiful Lucca! Breakfast is well served, with options for juices, fruits, cereals, breads, etc.
Review 106:The only real complaint is that wifi only worked in the lobby, not the rooms. The hotel staff said it worked in the rooms but we were on the top floor and it did not work at all and even when I brought my laptop down the floors individually it only worked once we were in the lobby.
Review 107:We found this hotel by accident and at first did not know what we found. We arrived in Pisa train station and had to take a taxi ($40 Euro) and later realized there was a train station in Lucca within walking distance of the hotel. We also discovered the city of Lucca and found it amazing the next day. Lucca had the best chocolate of our entire Europe trip and such a quaint and historic city. We also got a taxi to take us to the "Devil's Bridge" just north of town and loved it. In Lucca they also told us about the town of Collodi where the Pinnochio story originated. The hotel staff recommended a great steak house about 2 blocks away with amazing food and a discount from the hotel. We only stayed 2 days but wished it had been longer once we realized how amazing the area truly was.
Review 108:Hotel not more than two star now and under renovation, noisy dirty, worn out.
Review 109:Location good for business, just outside Autostrada exit and walking distance from old town.
Review 110:The hotel was just going through some renovations which is understandable but it did make for some areas to be less presentable than others.
Review 111:The location was super convenient as it was close to the autostrada as well as the historic downtown. Additionally, the ability to be able to check the bikes out for free from the hotel to ride around town was wonderful, best part of the trip was riding the bikes around the old city walls!
Review 112:not much.
Review 113:it's easy walking distance to the wall and easy access to the motorway if you're driving. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the room was modern and clean and the prices are really good.
Review 114:- prior to my arrival in town they sent me an e-mail saying that there was a great room with balcony at 5th floor, but when I arrived and asked for this room, I've been told it was a mistake by the person who wrote me. - room is old and noisy (there is a bar beside the hotel where people party outside all night long). - bed-header was very dusty. - tub has a poor glass door making water leak trough bathroom and room hall (wooden bathroom door was wasted by this intense moist) - hotel was under refurbishiment in 2 or 3 floors at the same time, including the room next to ours, so we had to step in a area covered with tapes and plastic to enter the room. - pillows were too hard. - breakfast wasn't very good at all, but anyways excessively served even though there were no many guests at the hotel, causing the disgusting impression that the same food would be exposed again in the morning after (I really doubt they would throw away 2 big yogurt bows (2 liters each). - It doesn't deserve its 4 stars.
Review 115:- maps offered to go around. - bikes available (must take!) - candies at the reception
Review 116:It was very noisy outside the window so I wanted to close the louvers. But with the closed louvers it was hot like hell inside the room. And the air conditioner didn't work! I slept very badly. I think this hotel is not worth its money. Too expensive for such a "comfort". The snack could be a bit better.
Review 117:Big parking and big bed in the room. Nice bathroom. They had almost all types of chargers for telephone in the room.
Review 118:Because the hotel is situated on a feeder road to the main motorway to the north and south coasts, the traffic was very busy and noisy outside. It took a bit of getting used to. The upside of this was that you were conveniently located for a direct route to Carrara, Genoa, Pisa, Florence or Livorna. This proved useful when we hired a car.
Review 119:the hotel was a ten to fifteen minute walk to the walled city of Lucca. This made it ideal, for visiting the city each day and eating there in the evening. The reception staff could not have been nicer. We were on first term names at the end of the visit. They helped by advising and helping to plan trips, visits and reataurants, getting discounts in two restaurants in the town. the breakfast was one of the best we had in Tuscany. OUr booking was for eight nights, but we had to change it to seven, to suit our trip. However, 8 night s were pre-payed, with no cancellation allowed by boioking.com. I requested the hotel to compenate us for the extra payment and we received a suite on the top floor, with a large terrace, with panoramic views of the Apuan alps and the walled city. We were made really at home here. Cafe Nelli, right beside the hotel was very convenient for a late drink or mid-morning snack.
Review 120:The distance to the center of Lucca was only about 15 minutes walking. I didn't mind the walk but one had to walk through a heavy traffic area with cars flying past very fast. I felt like I was walking on a freeway. I would not book again because of this.
Review 121:I liked everything about the Hotel. The staff was very friendly and the accomodations were great. Breakfast was delicious and had many choices.
Review 122:Not at all 4 star. Dated, fawlty towers atmosphere, no information about hotel or environs. No food other than breakfast not even bar snacks. No help with bags. Very poor wifi.
Review 123:Very little. The air con worked.
Review 124:Narrow twin beds were not very comfortable. Lack of tea coffee facilities in room & terrible coffee offered in lobby & at breakfast.
Review 125:Staff polite & helpful. Bikes available to borrow (but could do with some maintenance - mine had no brakes)
Review 126:Only very minor complaints: Not quite enough hangars for clothes / towels in the bathroom, and having to cross two busy motorways on the way to the city center (there is a pedestrian tunnel that lets you avoid the less busy of the two, if you can find it).
Review 127:Nice rooms in a nice new building, and extremely friendly staff; I was a bit worried, as this was my first stay in a country where I didn't speak the language, but everyone here was incredibly helpful, and I felt at home immediately. Nice breakfasts as well, and only a short walk from the city walls.
Review 128:- Unfriendly staff, specially regarding registration - Very old facilities - The way to reach the city cetre from the hotel is long and dangerous, with no space for pedestrians - Overall bad quality to price ratio
Review 129:- Free parking area - Big TV set in the room - Big balcony in our room
Review 130:Well, quite too expensive, close to a busy street, breakfast was rather moderate quality, definiately hotel needs modernization.
Review 131:Very friendly staff, close to bus stop and railly station in a walking distance. Free bikes rental - great thing!
Review 132:Rooms smelled like old smoke, ok if windows are open but need to close windows at night bc of traffic noise. Beds not comfortable.
Review 133:Front staff was very friendly and helpful. Easy walk to inner Lucca city. Rooms were clean.
The Fine Print
Please note there are some steps to reach the rooms on the top floor.
