Reviews for Hakodate Kokusai Hotel
Review 1:The breakfast is amazing. The room was tidy and nice. Everything you would need is provided. The bus stop of the bus to the airport is just outside the hotel.
Review 2:no compliment bottled water in room. room slippers are not allowed into breakfast, forced to wear shoes. nobody cares what footwear i wear into breakfast, as long as i'm comfortable.
Review 3:the freaking awesome breakfast spread and quality. location is next to a car rental, very convenient if planning to rent a car.
Review 4:During winter, not very convenient to drag your luggage across the snow and puddles from JR station (10 minutes walk), but the cab is an affordable 800+ yen.
Review 5:Big spacious room with ocean view and the amazing breakfast buffet. Toilet and bathtub is big with well stocked amenities. It's near the morning market and red brick warehouse.Good service.
Review 6:It is a local hotel which strives to be a grand and deluxe one, but its amenities and cleanliness is not up to my expectation as a kokusai hotel.
Review 7:Staff have been very polite, but communication is very much limited to Japanese.
Review 8:Range of drinks available at the Vendo machine were limited.
Review 9:It was a short visit to Hakodote CAMPUS,Hokkaido University. Stay at hotel was a comfort and relaxing
Review 10:We would have loved an Onsen in the hotel. We did not like the strong smell of cigarettes in the room
Review 11:The service was excellent. Your staff love their job especially the first day reception.
Review 12:I did not like the room door. May be was becasue the room I got was in the East Wing, an older facility. I could hear the noise on the hall way with door closed.
Review 13:The hotel is only 7 to 8-min walk from JR Station. There are several restaurants in the neighborhood. The breakfast served at the hotel was good. The bed was comfortable. I enjoyed the morning sun shining through my room window.
Review 14:There was no mid level priced coffee shop or restaurant on the premises. Since there aren't many local restaurants nearby, we ended up eating at the hotel 2 nights. Recommend some kind of affordable eating plan or a convenience store on premises so you don't have to spend 25 bucks on breakfast.
Review 15:Beautiful, clean hotel. Room was spacious and comfortable with a gorgeous view of the harbor. Staff was friendly and helpful. English speakers on site as well.
Review 16:We didn't realize how small the room would be. We ordered the least expensive, should have up sized! Not really the hotel's problem.
Review 17:So very clean and staff was fabulous. Breakfast was fantastic.
Review 18:Can't control the temperature in room. (Only Strong/normal/small)
Review 19:-Various and delicious breakfast buffet -Quite near to JR Hakodate station (about 7mins). Also walkable distance to main sightseeing location
Review 20:No option to book double bed, only twin
Review 21:Great location. Good value. Room had good light. Clean. Non smoking.friendly staff. 5 mins to morning market which is great and a must. Try the Hokkaido milk and ice cream - yum! Shops around the brick houses too touristy. Lucky pierrot burgers worth a try - recommend the fried chicken burger, good views from mt hakodate go sunset/night time. Glad we only stayed a night, nice place but not a lot to do there.
Review 22:We requested non-smoking but the room was obviously used as a smoking room. The staff was very quick to open the window and installed an air cleaner as soon as we left for dinner. Problem solved.
Review 23:Lovely hotel with a magnificent view of the harbor from our room.
Review 24:The hotel was dated in appearance
Review 25:The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a very wide selection at breakfast, much better than most., including grilled chicken, pork and steak. There was also fresh sashimi for breakfast. There is no "ideal" location for Hakodate, but the Kokusai was between the red brick warehouse section and the Morning Market / JR station locations, pretty good. It was not too far to walk to Motomachi, and it had a great location for the fireworks over the harbor.
Review 26:The hotel is sightly old but still comfortable.
Review 27:A short 8 minutes walk from Hakodate Station. The best part is the free breakfast buffet with awesome spread of seafood along with international cusine.
Review 28:This hotel has a beautiful lobby and very comfortable rooms. The bus to the mountaintop dropped us off right in front of the hotel. A taxi ride to the JR station was 600-800 yen. A great stay
Review 29:Very small room, a bit sad, without anything particular, like the rest of the hotel.
Review 30:The breakfast, very rich and diverse. Even if they say it's "international", you'll find a lot of Japanese specialties. Staff was very kind. Not far from the station or the old warehouse.
Review 31:It should have public bath for the comfort and relaxation of the guests.
Review 32:Location. Though it is a bit further from the JR station, but it's rather close to Morning market and Red brick warehouses.
Review 33:Not the fault of the hotel but with the many reviews about how great the hotel breakfast was, I had expected more from the breakfast spread. It is still good.
Review 34:Almost everything is great. Hard to complain.
Review 35:Nothing at all.
Review 36:The room was spacious, the beds very comfortable, the view over the harbour great. It was very close to the historic part of the city and the station, so an excellent location. Staff were very helpful.
Review 37:Comfortable room. Very convenient location: about 10 min walk from Hakodate station, 5 min walk to Red Brick Warehouses. Staff are proficient in English and very helpful.
Review 38:The elevator to go to your room is far from the lobby. When coming back after going out side the walk is long.
Review 39:The room had a good view of the ocean which we like and room was spacious.
Review 40:The material of the room's door. The size of the room is very small.
Review 41:Not expensive. Near 7-eleven. Near bus station. Comfortable and clean. The receiptionist can speak english.
Review 42:Rooms are a little dated.
Review 43:Good western style hotel easy walk from train. Located between the seafood markets and the Hakodate Brewery both good for local culture and food.
Review 44:A little far to walk from train station especially in winter. Shops at the hotel close too early. Wireless wifi only in the lobby
Review 45:Big room. Friendly staff. Comfort bed. Nice view
Review 46:A few staff can speak English properly.
Review 47:Good location, near JR Station and fish market. Room and bed was so big when we think about this price. You can have a nice view from Pub/lounge.
Review 48:Only WIRED internet in rooms . Free Wi-Fi in the lobby area but very weak signals in the new wing.
Review 49:Our selection are always based on proximity and convenience to transport and this hotel was perfect for our needs. From Hakodate Airport, there is a shuttle bus to JR Hakodate Station at a cost of JPY410. From there it was a 10min walk from the West Exit of the JR station. Our party of 4 (2 twin rooms) was reduced to 3 due to unforseen circumstances and we were not able to amend the reservations before our departure. The duty front office manager ( I believe his name was Mr Furukawa) was very helpful and kind in changing our bookings without penalty (in fact giving a discount!) to a triple sharing room on the 8th Floor of the new wing with a beautiful view of the bay area. Note : even with the 3rd (sofa bed) the room was huge. They even sent a front desk staff up to our room to make up the 3rd bed - excellent service! The rate we paid was without breakfast , but we read good reviews about the buffet spread and opted to have it on our last day at JPY18000 per person - great value for the money spent. For the 1st morning, we took a walk to the Morning Market, about a 5mins walk and along the way back to the JR station. For a unique experience, buy your fresh seafood and have breakfast there. The other attractions like the Meijikan, Red Brick Warehouse District & even Motomachi historic district are within walking distance, tho some are uphill walks. Alternatively, there is a Hokuto Sightseeing Bus (purchase from the tourist office at the JR station) with a designated bus-stop in front of the hotel.
Review 50:It is a typical slightly westernised Japan style hotel, modern in appearance but Japanese in culture. As a non Japan speaking person, there was no one to communicate with in English, so I guess that 99.9% of guests are Japanese.
Review 51:There was nothing about this hotel to make you feel welcome. You are just a commodity, an item.
Review 52:Rooms are old, especially the East wing. Badly in need of a retrofit. Toilet is too small. In all, it is too much to spend for a room like that.
Review 53:Location is about the only plus point
Review 54:No WIFI in the room WIFI only available in the hotel lobby
Review 55:Room is relatively spacious for Japan standard Bus stop in front of hotel. Catching the bus to the airport is very convenient Easy access to nearby morning market and the beautiful warehouse district.
Review 56:It's a huge hotel and our room was a long way from the lobby. No help with luggage.
Review 57:The hotel was near the station (10min walking). It is very art for those who like impressive. There is a wedding planning device downstairs. Considering this, it was reasonably priced. We had to take a taxi to the ferry port, but it was very easy to get it from the hotel. We also went to the historic part of Hakodate in the late afternoon by public transport (tramway) and this was only 5 minutes from the hotel... We had beds, the first time in a week, not futons so may be a bit biased about comfort.
Review 58:Would've been awesome is you could get an ice cream in the bar, think that's wishful thinking though.
Review 59:The best view from a cocktail bar you'll find anywhere (1050-1250yen cocktails). Lovely big room, huge twin beds (size of a small double each), tasty free tea and lots of storage space. Great location, half way between the station and the warehouses.
Review 60:No WiFi in the rooms is a minor quibble, it is available in the foyer but would be nice to have in the rooms as most travellers seem to have tablets now which do not allow for a LAN connection.
Review 61:Beautiful hotel, very near the morning market and the beautiful warehouse district, easy to walk to the cable car for great views of the city. I was in the west building, which gave me a view of the bay. The room was huge, with space for a sofa area, and all for around 7k yen! Total bargain as the hotel is of a very high standard. Completely recommend, one night is not enough for gorgeous Hakodate!
Review 62:...room furnish and décor is old - should refurbish and upgrade to be like the standard done in the lobby and reception area.
Review 63:Convenient location to morning market and warehouse and restaurants/café - all within walking distance Lovely and impressive entrance but...
Review 64:Smoking residue smell in hallways and room.
Review 65:Wonderful, ocean, bay view, docked ships. Nice, modern, hotel, feels luxurious.
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:Like the most of interior design, especially the lobby level and floor plan.
Review 68:A variety and high quality of breakfast available. Location is very close to many hot spots.
Review 69:Room was very large with a fantastic view
Review 70:The bed is a semi queen. Not full queen.
Review 71:The hotel is new.
Review 72:The window should be openable , i just need some air .
Review 73:Nice and clean , good car park . Near morning market . Breakfast is superb
Review 74:About a 5 min walk fro the JR station, centre between the market and the red warehouses.
Review 75:Too far from down town
Review 76:Very nice room, all good facilities.
Review 77:Rooms, facilities
Review 78:Location
Review 79:Very good location. Only 10 mins walk from JR station. Bus stop exactly in front of the hotel.
Review 80:nothing I can think of
Review 81:Very comfortable enviroment
Review 82:Small kettle and small tea cups.
Review 83:Spacious room.
Review 84:Very close to the hakodate market n various tourist spots:)

Review 86:location is near to main attractions. room facing the sea is great.
Review 87:Metal room door
Review 88:Breakfast
Review 89:Good location. Nice view.
Review 90:I got a biger room
Review 91:the room is too small
Review 92:helpful and friendly staff
Review 93:The bed was too hard
Review 94:Location Big rooms
Review 95:Nil
Review 96:Good friendly service. Nice location.
Review 97:Not enough facilities i.e. hot spring
Review 98:BREAKFAST!
Review 99:Convenient location
Review 100:Room size
Review 101:A bit far from JR Hakodate so you need to take a taxi to the hotel if you travel with big luggages.
Review 102:Good breakfast and close to red brick warehouses.
Review 103:nothing
Review 104:i like their breakfast buffet and excellent location
Review 105:The Hotel location is quite a walk to hakodate station
Review 106:No onsen on the roof ;))
Review 107:You see some scars of time, but it was clean, warm and nice. Very nice view and soooo delicious breakfast!
Review 108:Location. Situated abit far from JR station, although Asaichi Morning market is just a step away.
Review 109:Hotel provides a very nice ambiance.
Review 110:Very good sea view with lager and comfortable room
Review 111:Dated elevator
Review 112:The room size, the Seaview, the cakeshop
Review 113:The hotel had plenty of restaurants and a bar. Close to the morning fish markets for excellent fresh seafood.
Review 114:price view (or lack thereof) atmosphere
Review 115:location
Review 116:There's no wifi in the room, it's not convenience. It's a little bit far from the jr station especially in snow day
Review 117:room is clean and big, and we can see the sea from window
Review 118:I booked the room for one person with breakfast. However, when I arrived, I was provided with twin room without breakfast for this price. That was not what I expected to get! I refused to get breakfast for additional payment.
Review 119:Very beautiful interior, big rooms and good service. Not far from the main destinations (Motomachi, Asaichi etc).
Review 120:No wifi in room, but only in hotel lobby.
Review 121:The bus stop for shuttle to Hakodate Airport is just in front of hotel entrance, and that's very convenient. I really appreciate the room upgrade given. It was a pleasant stay!
Review 122:We had requested a double or queen room but only twin singles available but they did upgrade us to bigger single beds.
Review 123:Room had a great view, hotel close to fish market No 1, also close to Railway Station
Review 124:It would be nice to have some english translation/announcement or sighboard at the JR station when there is a delay on train service such as accident that caused the change in the train schedule and advice them how to go about it specially to those foreigners who do not understand japanese language.
Review 125:Great location. one place for all seafood lovers. very close to JR station and tourist information under one roof. People are friendly and helpful though minimum english spoken.
Review 126:More than 5 minutes walk from the station.
Review 127:The room was very clean and quiet. And the biggest surprizing point was the breakfast buffet. Lots of kind Hakodate local food were served. Compared the price, the value was so great !
Review 128:The air-conditioning either did not work or was disabled. All of the restaurants in the hotel were pretty pricey, and the area around the hotel starts closing down before 8pm, so if you want cheap, tasty dinner then you have to go explore fairly early.
Review 129:The staff was very helpful and accommodating!
Review 130:The hotel is HUGE, so you need to walk a long way to get to your room. No coin laundry,
Review 131:Big, comfortable rooms. Nice beds. Very close to interesting Hakodate spots (although the town is not so big to start with). The hotel is also interestingly designed and looks like a church in part.
