Reviews for El Minzah Hotel

Review 1:Bed was very small, like two double beds pushed together (but with separate bedding), with only 2 pillows total. Not comfortable for a "luxury" place. No alarm clock makes it difficult to keep track of time. They connected me with a "guide" as soon as I arrived, but I wish they could have explained their relationship with him. I initially thought he was employed by the hotel, but he isn't. No prices for the guide/tour are given until after the tour, so there is no way to decide whether you really want it or not. Wish the hotel would explain this. Same happened with "their driver."

Review 2:Location provides within walking distance to the medina. Nice bathtub. Good food in their restaurant.

Review 3:Wifi is rubbish and poor at the rooms except the reception area...... The furniture a bit old but maybe that because of the hotel age....

Review 4:I like the stuff behavior a lot They were very nice and helpful Location is good near the biggest traditional market ( suq al-daghil)

Review 5:Needs some investment and upgrading. Water and electricity systems appear to be old. With some improvements, this hotel would be excellent

Review 6:Beautiful hotel, with lots of atmosphere and great location. Comfortable and clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Good kitchen

Review 7:Pool was being repaired but the weather was poor so we wouldn't have used it anyway .

Review 8:The staff were fantastic ! We ate in the hotel every evening because the food was good.

Review 9:The changes in the decor the large tv screen that the staff kept watching although the guests did not wish to hear the football the staff disappeared to watch it moth floating in the fruit at breakfast being harassed by staff in the streets and asking for money to show the sites when they were told we wished to be left alone

Review 10:Location food

Review 11:Definitely at present not a 5 star hotel anymore, worn out facilities but good price and very nice staff.

Review 12:Great traditional dinner at the hotels' restaurant. Hotel has a long interesting history and has had its period of glory.

Review 13:Stayed in this hotel many times before and sorry to say that the standard of service and facilities is not what it was. Whilst still a charming place to stay the rooms and linen were scruffy, bath did not drain, fixtures hanging off the wall etc and service unfortunately below 5 star stand.

Review 14:Location and old world charm

Review 15:A tiny bit overpriced in my opinion, and a difficult access by car, in the summer there are the worst traffic jams ever in tangier.

Review 16:Great view over tangier's Bay and staff are friendly and although it's a very busy district it was quiet and relaxing inside. Overall a very good hotel

Review 17:the staff were rude. I can only think of one waiter that didn't look down his nose at us. It felt like our money wasn't good enough. The food is well overpriced. We asked for a lunch menu And they told us the only food available was a 40€ each buffet but 30 mins later saw a group of rich arabs eating pasta and burgers being waited on. The hotel feels like it hasn't been touched since the 70's i truly feel the only reason people stay there is because the stones and a few other famous faces stayed there in the era. We got charged twice for a meal at checkout and after arguing why we wouldn't eat 2 meals they were adamant so we had to let them steal our money. They arranged a taxi to take us to our next hotel up the road and charged us 100dh, a petit taxi would of cost 15dh. An overall very bad experience was had at the El Minza. I don't say this lightly.

Review 18:the hotel is grand. Don't get me wrong it is some impressive architecture. The little courtyard is nice.

Review 19:THERE WAS NO HOT WATER ONE MORNING WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A HOTEL. THE STAFF COULD NOT APOLOGIES FOR THIS THEY MERELY EXPALINED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM.

Review 20:The history, classy but relaxed elegance , panache, the amazing staff, facilities, peace, the best breakfasts, attention to detail, views, garden, pool and location. It's a romantic, special place where my husband proposed to me 9 years ago and we go back every year if possible. Always feel inspired.

Review 21:rooms pretty old which would need to be refurbished, in order to reach indoor-pool one has to cross an outdoor-yard (when I was there it was raining...) all staff members very nice besides one older arrogant waiter at the Moroccan restaurant/breakfast,

Review 22:central location in Tangier, parking at the hotel, wifi good, nice indoor-pool, good gym, excellent restaurants, good value for money,

Review 23:Beware at checkout! We were presented with a bill converted into £ sterling without being told that a 3% currency exchange fee had been added.

Review 24:Facilities, architecture

Review 25:Wifi constantly disconnecting.

Review 26:Nice hotel, feels like a riyadh but has a good selection of facilities. Not being right in the Medina is actually a plus, as you might want to get out of it after a full day walking around.

Review 27:Bed was not comfortable the first night but after complaining to house keeping the problem was rectified. WiFi is not available all over the property

Review 28:Nothing to wow about and the room we got was not what was booked, fortunately the management were nice and ready to take care of the issue.

Review 29:Cleaners annoying and speak loudly and issue voices when cleaning up early in the morning and Wi-Fi is very slow, The bed is not comfortable quilts light does not protect from the cold and there is no heating

Review 30:I liked the location and the staff were very respectful and breakfast was good

Review 31:Some of the opulence from previous visit was missing. Buffet breakfast comprehensive if a little overcooked.

Review 32:Good to relive previous memories. Location still excellent. Just a few minutes walk from the souk.

Review 33:Some minor problems: at the valet parking they help with suitcases which is useless rather than parking the car, which would be more useful, and the room's keys hardly work, which forces you to go up and down too many times for a change of keys..

Review 34:The place to stay in Tanger, full display of the old story of the town.

Review 35:Unfortunately the older, junior, male staff were less friendly than they could be. We found, as 2 men together, that the older staff were more disagreeable and the service poor - particularly in the bar!

Review 36:A feeling of being back in an earlier era

Review 37:Door slamming on 3rd floor when housekeeping is working.

Review 38:The old world charm, attentive staff, view of the port, and general location. Good food and great health spa!

Review 39:Tangier is a noisy, hectic, untidy place with tricky driving conditions, but we got around just fine and got used to the barking dogs and clucking hens nearby.

Review 40:El Minzah has the perfect combination of a somewhat aged exotic character, a wonderful view over the town, and a very high standard of service, including onsite parking. We were fussed over in a very friendly but un-intrusive manner. The breakfast and evening meals were particularly excellent, as well as the music and dance entertainment. We had easy access by foot to all of the main attractions like the Medina, the souks, the Kasbah, the very calm Jewish cemetery, and a long walk along the beach. We really look forward to staying again soon.

Review 41:Going outdoors to get to Restaurants or Spa, and in the case of the spa this was a disappointment as we did not feel we could wander to it in the dressing gowns provided. Cooking smells on balcony, fish and bread mainly Tiny booze measures Stale croissants at breakfast Bedside light not working, plus wobbly table light

Review 42:Service, could not have been more helpful everywhere from room to concierge, reception to restaurant. Staff were wonderful and the hotels main asset. Spa, could not have been more helpful We enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 43:The hotel is not overlooking the see as it looks in photos. But my balcony was by the see side snd i enjoyed the view from far.

Review 44:It was a nice experience in this hotel. Delicious breakfast with excellent staff.

Review 45:The price of the offer at booking.com was 40 Euros different to the onepayed when arrived at the hotel that night. No invoice was provided, soafter paying in dirhan, the wrong payment was noticed afterwards, withthe bank statement. After inquiring the hotel, no answer has beenprovided so far (2weeks after)

Review 46:Website seems to endeavour to show beach closer than it really is. Service often sooooo slow - room service a bit hit and miss, with daily room cleaning at random times. Menus - international and Moroccan - rather limited.Overall impression was that El Minzah had been the "best hotel in Tangier" in its heyday but is now struggling to live up to that reputation.

Review 47:Likeable, old-fashioned hotel, with some characters among the staff - service acceptable once you get yourself slowed down to the pace of the place.Room OK, balcony pleasant, restaurants and bars comfortable but not outstanding. Indoor pool often unavailable for various reasons. Outdoor one cold, but can blame that on time of year. Free wifi a major plus.

Review 48:If you ask them to call you a taxi they use their own service and charge you double. Service in bars and resto very very slow and servers all miserable. Waiters either don't listen or don't understand or don't care... after 10 mins of discussing a vegetarian dish they brought out a meal with a lump of lamb in it the size of a fist! Beds lack enough pillows and were old and too soft. .. Certainly not worth the price

Review 49:Cleaners excellent and did good job. Cocktails amazing. Lovely building and spa experience good.

Review 50:Went to the famous cocktail bar and I I ordered a Dry Martini Cocktail .......looking forward to it the whole day at this Classic Hotel ........ It came in a tumbler class with a chunk of ice !....I asked for it to be returned in a Martini Glass.....it came back in a Margereta glass.... Seems a shame they trade on the past history of the place... Casablanca film ect and the famous people that have stayed there ....but cant get the basics right.Real shame.

Review 51:We like leaving the windows open but the call to prayer in the early hours and the dogs barking and howling meant we had to close them. Other than that the experience was only positive.

Review 52:The hotel is a short taxi ride from Tanger Med port and is handy for the Medina and shops. The staff were excellent and the food outstanding. Do not eat anywhere else! As befitting a hotel of its standard and in a "dry" country drinks weren't cheap. Wish I'd insisted on a room with a balcony in hindsight but the views were staggering anyway from our higher floor (3rd). Pool looked great although we didn't use it. Outside terraces and gardens lovely. Latter is small but a must see for the birds inc. Barbary partridges.

Review 53:Tourist trappy suggestions over the counter. Whenever you search for a tourist guide, taxi or simply "how to get to....", better search a second advice somewhere else, as you will probably find a much cheaper and still very good alternatives. Room furnishings are quite far from 5star hotel quality. Shabby wardrobe. The keycard door lock was faulty. Always needed help to get into the room.

Review 54:Location, swimming pool Excelent breakfast

Review 55:A wonderful and beautiful old world hotel with all the amenities of a modern one. The staff is charming and helpful. There are choices of levels of rooms, many with a stunning view. One minute walk into the medina, spa services available, and good restaurants in the hotel. The included breakfast is sumptuous.

Review 56:-Staff ( quantity and quality ) at reception and restaurants and bars -Slow service -No attention to details -Major training needed -Major attitude problem -SPA staff trying to solicit for " other business/ services " -Major refurbishment needed in rooms , restaurant and people

Review 57:Historical touch Location Food

Review 58:Room could have been bigger but was adequate. This was a superior double.

Review 59:Helpful staff Excellent Food Good friendly Service Fantastic location for exploring the old medina. Good atmosphere

Review 60:Obtaining a morning cup of coffee was like pulling teeth. Once obtained the coffee was good. We battled flying bugs in the tiny room upon arrival.

Review 61:Location and fitness center

Review 62:Keys system block frequently. Rooms close to the inside fountain hear the water noise. Watch the AC it might leak inside.

Review 63:Location Historical Style Staff Food

Review 64:Dirt and dust everywhere including the breakfast plates. Staff extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. Waiter picked up sliced fruit that fell and put it back on the buffet. Picked up food with his hands and put it on the plate. Very, Very Noisy, every night, all night. Complete rip off. Would not ever go there again.

Review 65:The nicer beaches were a 25 euro drive away. The pool bar was very expensive. 1 burger and 2 beers= 29 euro

Review 66:The decor was very traditional, felt like I had stepped back into the60s. But still had free Wifi! The staff were very attentive, which was nice except when they linger for a tip.

Review 67:The service was rather slow, especcialy at the swimmingpool.Don't let them call you a taxi , you will pay double, while you find plenty taxi's just in de street.

Review 68:Excellent location near de old center, with a nice garden and swimmingpool. The room was not big, but whith good beds and a a well-equiped bathroom.

Review 69:We had to wait till 16 pm before we got the keys of our room. The staff is rather slow, and don't ask them to phone for a cab , you will pay the dubble while you can find plenty taxi's just outside.

Review 70:Very good location . The rooms are rather small but with a good bed and the bathroom is well equiped. Althoug it is in the middle of the town it has a nice garden and swimmingpool.

Review 71:Upon check-in the entire exchange was completed without words or welcome. The rooms are poor in my opinion, for the rating and the price. The pictures of the standard rooms in expectation far outstrip the reality. The shower in our room was low pressure and variable temperature at the same setting - ok in a two star - not ok in a "five" star. The El Minzah needs a refurbishment of rooms and decor on this level - mainly the third floor. The prices are extortionate in the mini-bar even compared to other hotels. The service staff in the bar are not aware that from time to time after you make your first order that their services may be required again - this is particularly annoying when you are sitting on the terrace overlooking the harbor. The street approaching the location on both sides is alive with beggars which even by North African standards is at a higher level than the experienced traveller would expect. The establishment is still trading off long forgotten glory and the "olde worlde" atmosphere does not compensate.

Review 72:The gym facilities in the new building adjacent to the pool and restaurant area are a new build and cannot be faulted - they are more like a stand alone private members WELLNESS complex than an add-on to a hotel.

Review 73:The hotel was horrible . the staff were mean , they were expecting tipsall the time. This hotel is not 5 star as they say. It was more like 3star. I wish I never booked for 7 days . it was the worse time of mylife. I love Morocco never again El-Minzah. People! You better staysomewhere else . don't say I never warned you ! it was 500 poundsdown the drain! Horrible El-MINZAH.

Review 74:The view of the city !

Review 75:We were to be upgraded to bigger room 2nd night, and new room was really worn out, towels were worn out, signage for getting to stairs or anywhere was lacking. Mosquitos were bad in common areas. People hanging out outside the door to guide through town. I couldn't figure out if hotel employees knew or not it was kind of gray area. Faded glory.

Review 76:Location was central to a lot. Between the Casbah and Medina. Day staff spoke English well and were very accommodating. Our first room was small but bigger bed and AC kept us cool. Bar by the pool was very nice, think Casablanca for decor, and nice staff. Breakfast was very good and Hotel fine dining had great traditional food and music/entertainment.

Review 77:no espresso included in breakfast buffet!! One must pay extra( in a 5 star hotel??!! Place is run down and I had to deal with problems and repairmen daily. and problems were sometimes fixed with spit and glue. TV is old and tricky to operate WIFI never worked in my room and only sporadically elsewhere in the hotel. too much deferred maintenance. Hotel needs a complete renovation. Shocking decline since one year ago The elevator broke down one day and guests with severe mobility problems had to struggle with the stairs.. The only aspect worth 5 stars is the prices. It is sad to see such a decline in quality. It is not yet bad only mediocre and definitely NOT worth the price.

Review 78:location and view .Some of the staff were great especially Satour in dining room and the repairmen were pleasant. Qwerty keyboards in the computer room. the only ones I have seen in Morroco. The courtyard is lovely. The elevator broke down one day and guests with severe mobility problems had to struggle with the stairs.
