Reviews for Albergo San Martino

Review 1:The hotel is not on a main street...so is very quiet. :-) But it was a little difficult to find. A small map on their site should take care of this.

Review 2:This hotel was not far from the train station and yet an easy walk to everything of interest in the old town. The staff was extremely helpful with suggestions of where to go and what to do. And the breakfast! OMG the breakfast buffet was the best I've seen anywhere! Attractive, easy to access, fabulous foods and choices....I'd go back for the breakfasts alone!

Review 3:Bed a little hard. Shower rather small. And this could be a bonus for some, but we did feel the several flights of stairs after a day's walking at times. But if you ask, you will get cheerful assistance with luggage.

Review 4:Always helpful desk people. Wonderful breakfast. Location perfect for walkers and history lovers and always felt safe. Attractive and cosy decor.

Review 5:we liked everything about this hotel, especially the central location in Lucca, the excellent staff, very clean and comfortable rooms and the breakfasts are superb. Everything was 100% good.

Review 6:No bad experience , just very tight area to move your car .Also the restricted area is to be avoided, as it is very close to the path to the hotel.

Review 7:Location was great and close to everything. Staff was very helpful and the breakfast was good. You were in the city walls. Good value.

Review 8:Very difficult to find in the maze of one way streets many where you cannot drive. Better directions would be helpful. No secure parking. Expensive breakfast

Review 9:Very helpful staff and nicely decorated rooms

Review 10:Everything was fine; the room was nothing outstanding but certainly a pleasant place to stay.

Review 11:Albergo San Martino is in a great location, not far from the San Pietro gate. Everything in Lucca is within walking distance but there are two bike rental places nearby and you'll see a lot more on two wheels! Clean, comfortable room on a quiet street, but the furnishings looked a little dated. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 12:Loved being right in the middle of this amazing old town. So intimate, so comfy, but small, expected in an old town such as Lucca. Breakfasts the best, the staff and amenities were 5 star. the Puccini concert in the local church a bonus, and riding around on bikes, at our age, a real treat! Everyone on bikes, seem to have more rights than anyone!

Review 13:Room was lovely and we liked the balcony. Staff couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. I liked walking down the little beat up alley and finding this little gem with umbrella's and seating.

Review 14:Breakfast could have been a little more exciting.

Review 15:A lovely little hotel tucked away in a quiet but central side street. Very easy public parking on a metre just around the corner.

Review 16:Bed not the most comfortable.

Review 17:Very friendly helpful staff. No lift but rapid transport of our bags to and from the 2nd floor by staff. Central. Easy walk from the bus "station" inside the walls.

Review 18:Excellent location within city walls. A bit tight with a car though. They do have parking spaces in local square but difficult to get in and out in our estate car. There is a reason for Fiat 500s and it is the Tuscan hill towns! Highly recommended.

Review 19:Being unwell after a 400 mile run on Italian autostrada in immense heat!

Review 20:We stayed in the annex room as it was a bit cheaper and we were getting there late. Had ground floor disabled room- spacious bathroom! Unfortunately, I became ill that night. We had to move on with our motorbike tour the next day but the owners regretted they were fully booked as thought I should stay and sleep late. They asked the cleaner to leave our room until last though. Very helpful staff who reply to messages and help with your luggage. They have a locked car park area, but we were able to park the bike right outside the annex. Great location just inside city walls.

Review 21:Leaving so soon!

Review 22:Charming hotel in the heart of the historic city, with very kind staff and a pleasant sitting room with its homey afghan on the sofa and picture books about Lucca. Decor is quaint, eclectic and modern at the same time. Breakfast was lovely with lots of variety and fresh baked things, even homemade apple cake. Though all the staff were nice, the manager Fabrizio is a gem! We loved his sense of humor and ability to get through red tape with a minimum of fuss.

Review 23:Air con a bit noisy.

Review 24:Excellent location for restaurants, places of interest etc.Walked everywhere. Staff very helpful & friendly. Room clean & spacious. Would definitely return to this hotel.

Review 25:No gluten free bread, not even for toasting.

Review 26:Excellent location, clean and large spacious room, free wifi with decent speed. Breakfast is a decent spread including a small variety of gluten free items, good expresso coffee. Nice to be able to sit outside to have it. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 27:A little pricey.

Review 28:The location was perfect for exploring inside the city walls. It was very convenient to accessing the walk on the wall around the city. The room was very clean, modern, artsy and air-conditioned. The breakfast was awesome.

Review 29:The staff was awesome. The place charming and pristine. My only negative comment, would be that we were on the 3rd floor and there was no elevator. The staff did carry all of our suitcases up for us, without us even asking though. And I would definitely come back again.

Review 30:As I said, the placed was so clean, and staff so friendly and helpful with anything we needed. On our last night, we were even surprise with Italian pressecco. (I may not have spelled that correctly, but it is lovely sweet Italian champaigne.) Fabrazzio was a great manager of this auberge.

Review 31:Don't like being charged before we stay and some confusion if we were able to have breakfast or not. The breakfast was great.

Review 32:Stunning breakfast and so close to everything. Great common lounge with lovely local books and friendly atmosphere.

Review 33:The breakfast was good, but a greater selection would make it very good.

Review 34:The location was great and easy to find. It was clean comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend it and will stay there again if we ever back in Lucca.

Review 35:There was nothing we didn't like about the hotel.

Review 36:The friendly, polite and very helpful staff, the location and the clean and well-appointed bedrooms.

Review 37:The graffiti all over the neighboring properties, no parking for vans and difficult for any cars, horrible air conditioning that can only be used certain hours of the day and doesn't work well. (Definitely would not stay here when it's hot!) Loud neighborhood kids throughout the day and until 3am. However, the staff let us know that the kids just got out of school and we're super excited. Wifi oesn't work well. We kept getting logged out.

Review 38:Friendly and accommodating staff, good fresh breakfast, great location close to old city and wall. Nice basic rooms.

Review 39:The beds are way too soft.

Review 40:The room we received in the annex was spacious and nice to stay in. The street is very quiet but with extremely easy access to Lucca center. Great value for money.

Review 41:no fresh fruit for breakfast, reception staff not overly friendly and welcoming, had to log in to wifi every time, which was tedious

Review 42:Good bed and pillows, very quiet (despite being on ground floor), nice décor, excellent lighting, good sized room considering age and location of property (which is great, close to station and within the city walls)

Review 43:Breakfast service was not very good and was often done with a scowl. Asking for a Cappuchino seemed to cause particular problems.

Review 44:Excellent reception and support from the young men on the front desk. Some of the cakes available at breakfast time were delicious - particularly the apple tart.

Review 45:The bed was very firm, hard even. And the pillows were pretty flat. Not a great nights sleep.

Review 46:Friendly, helpful staff. Good location, easy to get to from train station. Nice updated bathroom with space and a nice shower. Very, very clean.

Review 47:Would like to have had breakfast included.

Review 48:Just inside the walls from the train station, very short walk. Next to Lucca Cathedral. Gorgeous little place with such wonderful service. We had the room at ground level (wheelchair accessible) so it was really comfortable. Charming painted walls as frescos.

Review 49:The convenient location made it very easy to get to from the Pisa airport by bus, to Pisa by train, and to Florence. The small road it's on was quiet most of the time. The hosts were helpful and very friendly.

Review 50:Stairs narrow and steep;no lift. Staff will help with luggage, but sadly not an ideal choice for those with mobility issues.

Review 51:A small hotel with character, interesting and well-maintained decor and friendly staff.Only a short stroll from the centre of Lucca. Room compact but with all necessary amenities. Breakfast buffet excellent both in quality and variety.

Review 52:Pretty little hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Location close to the train station and just within the walled area. Breakfast was great. Staff helped me with an unfortunate situation where I had left my passport at my hotel in Rome. Much appreciated!

Review 53:Only staying one night!!

Review 54:Small, personal and helpful. A lovely hotel tucked away in a great location. We asked if it was possible to have an espresso and a cappuccino with our breakfast and they fired up the espresso machine just for us. We sat outside with a great buffet breakfast that set us up for the day.

Review 55:That you can get lost and still enjoy walking through the many streets while finding your way back to the hotel. The impromptu band practice that entertained both locals and tourists

Review 56:Hard bed and pillows. A/C was supposedly on but our room never cooled off. Had to carry our bags up to the 3rd floor.

Review 57:Great breakfast. Front desk was helpful and spoke English. Location close to sites. Liked the outdoor area to meet up with friends for a drink.

Review 58:A shame that staff had not been informed of our last minute arrival and member of staff on duty at breakfast seemed puzzled by us being there. (Perhaps he thought we had just walked in from street? ) Later when checked out however all had been resolved however and was very cordial.

Review 59:Saw the Albergho recommended in guidebook and after scrolling around managed to secure a late cancellation. Were thrilled with location and really enjoyed meal at restaurant recommended to us by hotel.

Review 60:Best thing about this hotel is the staff, so helpful and pleasant. Rooms a bit small but very clean & nicely decorated. Great location, 1 minute from the centre.

Review 61:All the staff were helpful and there was a lovely welcoming atmoshpere. They all spoke English or would encourage you if trying to speak Italian. Lovely buffet breakfast available.A super base for seeing Lucca and the mountains.

Review 62:Not all of the functions on the shower in our room worked properly. The handheld shower head worked fine, but the overhead shower head didn't seem to work. The WiFi was a bit unreliable. Please keep in mind that these are minor problems, and that our overall experience at the hotel was excellent.

Review 63:The staff were all friendly and attentive. There was a good choice of food at the breakfast buffet. The hotel was well kept and looked lovely inside. We particularly admired the wooden beams on the ceilings. We could not have asked for a better location, and It was nice to have a secure and private car park even if it was a bit difficult to get to!

Review 64:The bathroom was very dated. I wouldn't describe it as 3-star.

Review 65:The staff and location were superb. We had a good size room and a comfortable bed. Everything was very clean.

Review 66:very pleasant stay: excellent service from staff. Beautiful location near to Duomo. Possibility of carparking nearby. Small terrass in font of albergo.

Review 67:Can't think of anything negative! It was a great experience!

Review 68:Great location & breakfast with a friendly & helpful staff. The room had fast internet, was a good size, and had a large bathroom. The annex building was quiet. The staff even parked our rental for us! Recommended places to go, things to do, and bicycle rental facility.

Review 69:Nothing really - loved having a big mug for breakfast but maybe they should find some that don't chip so easily.

Review 70:I stayed 4 nights in this tiny, very pretty hotel in quiet street walking distance from station but close to the ancient heart of Lucca with all it's churches, bars, restaurants and fabulous shops. I had a comfortable quiet room. Spacious bathroom with hair dryer and good shower.. breakfast was all I wanted. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Will return as perfect for me when visiting this lovely city.

Review 71:The room was in the annex. It was noisy with outside door banging. Only one pillow provided.

Review 72:the location. The bed was comfortable and the pillow (one only provided) was soft - the best I have had in any hotel recently.

Review 73:1.Bath room fitting leaking or not working properly 2. Age old crockeries-mostly with cracks and permanent stains. 3. Breakfast- not much option. 4. No facility for tea kettle or hot water 5. Bed sheets were not changed even once during our entire stay.

Review 79:Handy location for train station, but easy to get to centre v quickly. Really friendly and helpful staff. Clean cool rooms. Nice area to sit and relax with a drink. Great spread at breakfast.

Review 80:Wifi was very slow and with a poor signal in the bedroom.

Review 81:Very friendly and helpful staff but who didn't over-fuss! Amazing hand painted murals of Tuscan countryside on the bedroom walls Easy location for station and buses. Courtyard with comfy chairs for breakfast or a glass of wine before dinner. Free luggage storage after checkout.

Review 82:maybe next time will book a room not on ground floor so easier to leave window open as this was onto a side street

Review 83:friendly helpful staff, great location, lovely terrace

Review 84:Perfect position in Lucca's winding medeaval back streets, close to everything but accesible by car, and parking available. The room in the anex was so sweet, just around the corner from the hotel, beautiful decor. The umbrella covered outside seating area on the street in front of the hotel was a suberb addition and a haven to come back to and sit with a lovely glass of wine and generous nibbles. Superb breakfast, home made cakes, bread, jam, fresh fruit, real coffee way too much to eat. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
