Reviews for Samon Village
Review 1:The mosquitos were annoying.
Review 2:Living in these wooden huts cover with palm treesis a unique experience. Be sure to fit the mosquito nets tight :). There is no hot water in most of the huts but it just adds to the experience. If you're looking for a hotel type of comfort don't stay there. The staff speaks perfect English and they are very helpful.
Review 3:Staff is really slow if you want to order something to eat.. They bring food first and after ages drinks. I don't like it at all. Breakfast was the same I went to the bar to orders directly because I was sit for 25 mins and no one came. Far from the village. I won't go anymore.
Review 4:The bungalows are quite clean and nice. You have a nice river view from the patio.
Review 5:Understand it is extremely basic!! We had a cabin with huge gaps in the walls so mosquitoes can easily get in. In fact they didn't struggle getting through the mosquito net over our bed either. Toilet facilities are basic. We rented a double kayak there, found it extremely unsteady, we only used it for 10 minutes of our allotted hour!
Review 6:Very aesthetically pleasing place by the riverside. Obviously terrific value for money. Restaurant and cocktail selections are very good. Very relaxed place, restaurant area is very classy looking too. Friendly cats. Loved our little 2 storey bungalow.
Review 7:Food might be little bit pricey. Sometimes this place could be almost too quiet, especially at night time.
Review 8:Nice quiet location on riverside. Good food from restaurant.
Review 9:Internet hardly ever worked and when it did it was very slow, it's only available in the restaurant but most of the time it was impossible to connect to it. Some of the staff seem a little rude and they seem to forget certain orders we made, food wise, but never forgot to barge for them. Obviously with a bungalow there are a lot of bugs, which was fine for us but be warned the mosquito nests have a lot of holes in them.
Review 10:This is a good hotel, it has a wonderful porch next to the river where the restaurant is based, which gives excellent views especially at sunset. The rooms are a good size and most things seem clean most of the time.
Review 11:I am tall had to bend to take a shower.... shower should be at a decent height. Little better lights in the room. Provide some warm water in the shower. Washbasin was missing.... my kid refuse to brush..... Take enough insect repellent.
Review 12:Very different experience. Great Place for a rustic vacation. Went for standing paddling which was excellent.....
Review 13:Just be careful if you book a minivan trip to another city or even country like Vietnam e.g. The local bus company overbooks the van with 3 or 4 people more than seats in the van.... It's not a fault of this property but as we booked it over them, think I should mention it.
Review 14:Nice Bungalows. Simple but definitely worth the money. The common area which is also bar and restaurant is beautiful with a nice view on the river. The food is a bit more expensive for Cambodia but still cheap compared to Europe and absolutely good. If you need a refreshment... Just jump into the river!
Review 15:If you are looking for the waterfall trek there, make sure that your guide don't want to break his personal speed record again.
Review 16:Relaxed location, good restaurant and terrasse direkt at the river bank, don't miss to take a bath there, it's perfekt.
Review 17:Hard to find anything at all, but if I must: They did take a little bit long to prepare the breakfast (however, two days are hardly enough to judge that. and, after all, you shouldn't be in a hurry during your holiday anyway :)
Review 18:Waking up in paradise! Marvellous location, super friendly staff, great service, good food, motor bike rental and also organised a flawless journey further; everything at very reasonable rates! Would go back any time!
Review 19:The treehouse and bungalows were basic but clean. The location on the river and the common area was nice and relaxing. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 20:The Khmer staff were wonderful but there was an expat staff member who was not very hospitable, and even rude at times. He made an error in our booking and tried to make us give up one of our bungalows a night early. We would have been much more understanding and cooperative if he had shown some manners and perhaps apologised for the situation.
Review 21:Location is stunning. Being a little out of town makes it picturesque and peaceful. Bungalows are very simple but nice. Food was good.
Review 22:A good 15min walk from the main city centre...maybe not for anyone, but nothing a tuk tuk cannot resolve.
Review 23:I love the jungle feel it reminds me of the Robinson's tree house. The decking over the river is fantastic, you can use it as a spring board into the river below or lounge about. The staff is friendly and helpful. Overall i enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back.
Review 24:We had a very pleasant stay there. Bungalows are nice and clean. Staff is helpful. Restaurant is a great place to relax after a long day. They serve good food and drinks. Nothing more to as for !
Review 25:Bungalow had a concrete floor. No sheets on the beds. Had to ask for clean towels after 4 nights.
Review 26:Lush riverside location and perfect sunrise view from a hammock in the restaurant. Something different from the typical guest houses. Staff very lovely
Review 27:even though i love cold Asian showers this was just too cold bitten by bed bugs paying more than others from different hotels on organized trips
Review 28:all the staff were great the location is excellent the food was some of the best we had in Cambodia 75c happy hour beer the style of the room
Review 29:If you feel Siem Reap and Phnom Penh are too busy for you as I think, then you should be here~ My Cambodia trip start to be interesting when reached Kampot. Samon Village was a great choice, nature and chill with the helpful and friendly staffs. I'm extended few more days here and feels like don't want to leave anymore??~ I will miss here always and be back soon and I'm Highly recommended for all my friends and everyone~
Review 30:Only not having bicycles to hire and I had to go down the road but it really wasn't such a big deal
Review 31:It was a great place to just chill out and relax. Fantastic Khmer food with great river views
Review 32:Massively overpriced compared to many other great guesthouses located very near by! Bed was dirty. Alot of construction. Food and drink over priced. Grumpy host.
Review 33:Good common area nice seating and good menu.
Review 34:Amazing place! Three of us stayed in a bungalow. Comfy beds, clean, great food and service was excellent. Would highly recommend. Checked out the neighboring bungalows one night for food options, did not like them as much. Samon's vibe and food was the best!
Review 35:The first tree house we had leaked when it rained, but they changed us into an upgraded one with a toilet so we didn't have to go to the one outside.
Review 36:The tree houses were amazing and the bar was cool being on the river
Review 37:I had a groundfloor hut, and I was a bit disappointed the floor was just dusty concrete. I am not very picky - I work in rural Camboida - but I thought they could have made the floor a bit nicer.
Review 38:It's location by the river, and the set up is so exciting! It really feels like you are in the jungle - even though you are only 10 minutes from town! The food is great, and you can arrange any activities you like.
Review 39:Too many cats and dogs in the restaurant. Sheets didn't fit bed properly, and were minimal. Termite nests and trails in bungalow.
Review 40:Relaxing, good food, great location on river, friendly staff
Review 41:The group of 12 Dutch teenagers that took over the entire village with seemingly no care for any other guests and a guardian who was oblivious to them disturbing the other guests. This obviously wasn't the fault of the guesthouse directly, however I didn't feel the guesthouse was well setup for groups unless they occupied the entire village.
Review 42:Logan was a fantastic host as were the rest of the staff. They really made you feel at home and we're happy to assist with any request. Early in the morning you can catch the sunrise which emerged from the trees directly opposite the deck of the restaurant. A natural beauty to wake up to, and stunning views.
Review 43:-
Review 44:One of the best experiences during our trip through Cambodia. Located just by the river with a beautiful bar/restaurant. One of the most relaxing places we have been to. You can rent a motorbike and go to Bokor National Park or to nearby waterfalls. Bungalows are beautiful. Real return to nature. We will definitely come back again
Review 45:A good place to settle down and relax for a few days. There's not much to do in Kampot. They can organize your trips to the pepper plantations and the caves etc As for the food: The ginger tea is delicious, meals are fairly yummy as well. Had a great time there
Review 46:It was all pretty good, so picking on the little things is not realliy worth it.
Review 47:An eco friendly village with staff who know Kampot like the back of their hand.Everything about it was great and when i return to Kampot i'll want to stay here once again.
Review 48:We were told the wrong time, by a member of staff, for our tuk tuk to the bus back to Phnom Penh we had to rush around and pay for a new tuk tuk in to kampot. The staff didn't think to find out why we were not readyor acknowledge the fault was theirs. Put a downer on the experience
Review 49:Out on the river, away from the world. You can watch the fishermen going out at night on the river front. The area has a unique feel. You have to take it as it is. Its a treehouse, there will be insects, the shower and toliets are basic. But if you are looking for a relaxed feel with familly staff this is great. The staff will organise tours and transport. The glow worms are a must.
Review 50:No bad experience, just slightly annoying. The loud voice of a charming host descending upon a solo Brit. Unable to subdue his excitement of the chase, he strutted like a peacock and bleated in broken cliches like Arnie Zchwarzenegger, with a resonant tone like like some a Valley girl like duhhh like like etc etc. Annoying enough to leave the property for some respite. While this place is not a hostel or a hotel, the clientele consist of young families, uni social groups, grey nomads, budget trippers, etc - so some neighbourly consideration would be nice If you want your chill time you may be lucky but no guarantees
Review 51:Traditional bungalows with a mosquito net are fun if you're ok with roughing it a bit. A nice cultural change from a hotel. Sleeping amongst the frogs and insects, howling dogs and neighbours on heat. Leafy paths amongst fruit trees with a funky little communal bar area by the river playing traditional music in the morning. The staff are all very friendly, food good and rates are budget
Review 52:Far from downtown (anyway nothing to see in the city), tuk tuk for 2 USD. Some of the staff unfriendly.
Review 53:Amazing views, weird but great rooms, you really can feel the nature around, very good mosquito net.
Review 54:Sleeping was a nightmare, at first I was in the treehouse which was notfor me. Expecting more comfort I moved to a bungalow ensuite. Theoverall quality improved but here's the problem and I don'tblame the staff or facility at all. Red ants every night bar one I wokeup around 3am in agony having been bitten from neck to toe by red ants.By the morning the pain had subsided and swelling reduced however for 3consecutive nights this happened and it created one of the most horrificsleeping experiences of my life.
Review 55:Food great and staff lovely.
Review 56:We were bothered all night long by a bunch of drunk teenagers shouting around our tree house. We told them to be quieter as it was now 3am but they could not be bothered. Unfortunately, there was no staff around to speak to. Also our sheets were not clean.
Review 57:The nice bar seating area along the river
Review 58:The river was too dirty to swim in. The "bungalows" are nice looking but not secure. There's no way to lock them from the inside, which was a real problem when the last night of my stay someone actually tried to enter. Fortunately he went away when I started screaming. During the weekends there's a lot of noise at night. They can't help the music from the neighbours, but the first night it was the staff that after the closing of their bar started to talk and play music. Bring earplugs unless you intend to party all night yourself.
Review 59:They have a very nice bar/restaurant/hang-out place next to the river. Beautiful views, good food and drinks, a really good place to relax. The "bungalows" look nice and are placed among grown trees, which gives a bit of a natural feel to it all.
Review 60:the huts are very authentic but comfortable and the shared bathrooms are basic but good. The bar/restaurant was one of the nicest if been to stunning views down the river with a very relaxed feel. The food was good and resonable.
Review 61:Wonderful thatched bungalows on stilts. Clean. Very nice restaurant hang-out area with free wifi, open air with thatched roof on a platform overlooking the river. Food was great, staff very helpful. Great location on the river a short tuk tuk ride from town. Only thing I didn't like is that the place is noisy at night. First night we were there two puppies yelped all night. All 3 nights we could hear the cooks' TV. The last night, Saturday, there was loud disco music playing into the wee hours from someplace on the other side of the road. Since the bungalows are thatched they are open to the air and sound carries. So the noise was really an irritation. Otherwise the place is great and I recommend it.
Review 62:Great basic accommodation in a really beautiful spot on the lake. It's a bit far from town, so either a cycle or tuk tuk to bars and restaurants or a 30 minute walk. The restaurant was fine, but staff would sometimes take a bit of persuading to admit that they were actually serving food.
Review 63:Internet connection was hit and miss.
Review 64:Logan, one of the managers at samons made our stay so memorable. He was so friendly and invited us to lots of events with local Cambodians which really enriched our experience. It was super peaceful with the bar set upon a quiet stretch of the mekong river. I recommend taking the kayaks up the river and exploring bokor by motorcyles. Ofc a swim in the river is a must, with a free foot spa with all the fish. The huts are set in jungle like surroundings, basic but surprisingly comfortable. We booked 3 nights and stayed for a week. If you want more of a party/ bavkpacker vibe, head next door to bodhis villa.
Review 65:the walk to town centre is a little too long so you will need a bike and their rental ones were pretty bad bikes.minor point though great place !!!
Review 66:its like staying in the jungle!
Review 67:I stayed here for three weeks and except for racking up a large food tab because of how easy and nice it was to stick around and order so much food, everything was great. The staff are very kind, the river is beautiful, the huts are nice the common area is lovely. I would highly recommend Salmon Village.
Review 68:a bit run down, bathroom very simple (no sink e.g) and not very clean We paid around 20$us which we found a bit overpriced for what we got. But definitely a nice quiet place to stay.
Review 69:Nice river view, great atmosphere on the terrace, Bungalow with hamac and little terrace
Review 70:The veranda where you can have something to eat or drink is right above the river -- and it is a big, beautiful river. Seats are comfortable and prices are equitable. I had a bungalow on stilts with a bathroom en suite that did me fine for a short stay.
Review 71:Only negative is we read there was a restaurant on site so straight from our bus got dropped off at the village to relax, however when we got there they said the restaurant was closed (this was about 2pm) so we were really hungry and had to go back into town. Think they should offer something all day, everyday, even if just snacks or make people aware beforehand :-) as it is a little out of town xxx apart from this we loved our stay x
Review 72:Location, views, unusual
Review 73:Mattress on bed not the best, but fine for a few nights.
Review 74:Chilled out terrace overlooking river - very peaceful. Good food at reasonable prices. Helpful and friendly staff. Huts were basic but added to relaxed vibe. Would happily stay here again if in Kampot.
Review 75:Worst wifi we've had in 6 weeks. A bit far from town if that's where you want to be, although this didn't bother us.
Review 76:Perfect view of the river. Clean bungalow. Good food. Friendly staff.
Review 77:I do not know it they had invisible holes in the mossies net, but I woke up often (and some other guests as well) with many bites that did not belonged to mosquitos.....bed bugs? Sneaky spiders? Who knows..
Review 78:Friendly staff, cats, great food, nice view and quiet area.
Review 79:Would have enjoyed wifi in the guest house. Construction noise.
Review 80:Beautiful views of the full moon across the river. Very helpful and accomodating staff. Friendly owner. Clean rooms Wonderful lounge and dining area with riverfront view and wifi.
Review 81:Absolutely loved our stay at Samon Village!! Amazing experience staying in a treehouse !! Staff friendly and helpful, stunning views of the rivers! And the smoothies and food are delicious !!
Review 82:Staff kept on forgetting things: really often part of your order in restaurant, laundry... It always took a while until You got your food in the restaurant. Quite many quests needed to change their bungalow during their stay. An annoying kitten hanging around that tried to come and eat your food and sleep in your bed etc. Really good place in general but not that well organized.
Review 83:Nice and friendly staff, great location, nice athmosphere, peaceful location, good and clean (cold) showers. Good beds and proper mosquito nets. Good food. Welcoming lounge area, no huge and loud parties. Great value for the money and i' definetely come again!
Review 84:It didn't bother me too much, but you are a little out of the way of town. There was a huge party going on Friday night until about 3am nearby, which did keep me up. Apparently these parties happen most weekends, so it's not completely tranquil here.
Review 85:The location was beautiful, although it is a little outside Kampot village, that suited me fine, and I found this spot next to the river much more pleasant than the main town. My hut was pretty comfortable and had a good comfortable bed, with mosquito nets...the best part is the social area/bar. A really lovely atmosphere, great food and drinks and good for meeting other travellers.
Review 86:No hot water.
Review 87:Bungalows are Basic and clean. Shower with coconuthead was great. Location next to the river is nice ja quiet. Fruit shakes/juices are great :)
Review 88:Nothing that I can complain about. It was perfect.
Review 89:It is a great place to stay.. in fact it is so awesome that you would have to stay there to believe it! Great staff. I think I spent the majority of my Kampot trip at the guest house itself because it was so amazing!
Review 90:That we didn't stay longer.
Review 91:We wanted to stay 1 day, we stayed 8 nights :)) The staff is just more then friendly and helpful... If you have any question about kampot, the national parks or other things.... They will help you about everything. The bungalows are clean, quiet and next to the river:)) if you looking for a place a bit out of town .... It is so so beautiful. Thanks to the staff and the great owner samon!! Daniel & Lui
Review 92:The comfort is basic (cold showers, presence of insects because of the location), but that's part of this place. Your in nature.
Review 93:The staff is great (especially AJ!), the place is really cool (trees and nature surrounding the bungalows, bungalows in trees, the restaurant/bar right on the river with hammocks and a great atmosphere). The shower head is even made of a carved coconut shell. It's easy to access town (10mn bicycle ride or 1.5 dollar tuk tuk ride) but it's so much more relaxing and prettier than the town.
Review 94:Could provide toilet paper in room not just in shared toilet.
Review 95:Staff were friendly. Food and coffee was great and well priced. Atmosphere is great. Definetly a destination for backpackers though.
Review 96:Very nice Khmer "village" in a beautiful garden. Quiet location, good food, friendly staff and a very conscious and caring owner. Sit back, relax and breathe out on the wonderful platform right above Kampot river...
Review 97:Really rude and unhelpful receptionist:-( total downer on our stay.
Review 98:Slept in a basic treehouse (mattress on the floor) but one of the best places location wise. Whole place little bamboo huts, a few tree houses over looking the kampot river. Great bar terrace overlooking the river too.
Review 99:Overall great experience. You do need a bike or tuk tuk to get to town (otherwise your dining options are limited) but it's easy to rent a bike for $1/day
Review 100:The common area right on the river is the perfect place to spend a day in a hammock reading a book with great people.
Review 101:nowt
Review 102:Having left it very last minute to book a New Year getaway we were limited for options in Kampot. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were greeted by the most smiley staff member who showed us to our massive bunaglow and invited us for a free Khmer buffet that evening. What more can you ask for? The staff were all very helpful, the place is in a beautiful location and it is very relaxing. I've been to Kampot a few times before but I saw a new side to it this time and will certainly book to stay here if I return again. Icing on the cake, the room was cheaper when we came to check-out than we had been quoted when booking online. Highly recommended.
Review 103:Bed sheets not so clean. Ran out of water while brushing my teeth in the morning! Its a little trade off for good value.
Review 104:We like the bungalow 17 that is on the river edge. The sound of wind and water is so soothing and a great place to unwind and relax. Food is great too.
Review 105:The only thing I would suggest (and this was not a problem for us) - the treehouse bungalow was small and minimal - just a mattress, mosquito net, fan, and light. We didn't mind at all - but it might not be everyone's preference. There are plenty of other rooms to choose from though.
Review 106:The best part about our stay at Samon village was the opportunity to visit a family's home and land in the countryside - organized by Samon village staff. It was sort of impromptu, and there was no itinerary really - but this made the day feel like a real visit with the family. We had a great lunch and spent the afternoon walking around rice fieldsSamon village staff were very helpful and our translator told some good Khmer proverbs throughout the day.
Review 107:Cold showers. It's hot in cambodia but I'm an early bird so I jump in quickly in the mornings. I wish they would have warmer water during shower time.
Review 108:I was surprised to meet such good people on the premise. Their bungalows are super cute! Damon and staff are very welcoming and very helpful. What a great experience. Did somebody take me back in time to cambodia? I love this property. Just ask for help and they will be there to assist.
Review 109:A little bit too far from Kampot center. Bathrooms are very, very simple... with only cold water. This is anyway part of the fun :-)
Review 110:Located near the river, the hotel is very simple but friendly. Food is good and staff is helpful. Bike can be rent for 1$ per day.
Review 111:Bungalows are very "leaky" so basically you are sleeping outside with a so and so mozzy net. Because of that sheets were quite dirty, we had little worms on ours one night and it gets very humid. Fan was efficient in cooling but doesn't do much to dry the air when the bungalow is so open. There were also a few cats running around and they liked to hang out in our bungalow. One dragged in a mouse/rat head. Good for a drink/meal/hang out but don't sleep unless you like it very "natural".
Review 112:The lounge area is very nice and food good value. Great place to unwind, enjoy a drink etc. Lovely spot right on the river. Staff was also pleasant.
Review 113:The guesthouse is designed as a garden with beautiful village style cabins in it, and the lounge is built on the river. So, it's all beautiful and feels so relaxing. The staff are so friendly (one took me to have lunch with his family in a village for an afternoon). The food is really, really good (best I had in cambodia). Also, excellent tours, which are a good way to see kampot. The friendliest, most relaxed, and most beautiful guest house I've stayed in, after 4 months in Asia.
Review 114:Absolutely nothing negative to say about it. Basic accommodation, which is not for everyone, but that's what we like so it suited us perfectly
Review 115:Such a nice place to stay, very relaxed setting over the river, great friendly staff, good food, good cocktails, didn't want to leave. I will always remember this place
Review 116:Bit far from city Room floor is very dirty (plain concrete)
Review 117:Friendly and English speaking staff Big bungalow for good price Superb restaurant with fantastic view on the river Good internet (compared to Cambodia)
Review 118:The fan in my room did not work. The restaurant was closed 2 out of the 4 days I was there (apparently it closes every Tues) ...being a vegetarian, I found it very hard to get food elsewhere & asked for their recommendations, however told they had none! Given it's 2 km's out of town & a $2 each way tuk tuk, this further added to meal expenses! Everyone was smoking (staff included) & I was constantly inhaling multiple cigarette fumes while eating when the restaurant was opened & at night in my room, given the cabins are not sealed, my room was unfortunately contaminated with others cigarette smoke! Portion sizes in restaurant were incredibly small, so was having to order 2!!!
Review 119:I totally loved the nature & river.... Staff were friendly, close walk to a really great yoga place...& the owner kindly put on a party for us all for the Cambodian holiday
Review 120:My sister and I had such a great time here, we loved our little tree House / bungalow, we felt safe and felt our belongings were safe. The communal area was amazing out over the water. Loved the coconut showers ^_-
Review 121:The bedding was sub standard. Instead of sheets they gave you a mattress cover
Review 122:The location on the river was magical. As it was a bit out of town I ended up having most of my meals at the resort and the food was really good. Just a great place to chill for a few days. They made my bookings for day tours and transport to Phnom Penh which was great service
Review 123:staff so friendly and helpful wirh good English. beautiful location to relax on the riverside peaceful clean bathrooms powerful cold shower- refreshing! felt very comfortable and homely, very basic but fan and bad good and mossi net provided.
Review 124:too many bugs (can't be helped due to location), shared bathroom was a little too basic and had to share with a giant spider!!
Review 125:very relaxing spot, friendly staff, cheap room
Review 126:The location might not be the best, you're not walking distance from the ''city town''.
Review 127:The bungalows are so awesome and the staff is really nice. The food is also really good.
Review 128:Maybe just a little noisy in the morning.
Review 129:The bar with great view, very relaxing. Huts are great. Pleasent staff.
Review 130:- music was average, but the staff are open to suggestions.
Review 131:- The bungalows were really well done. - The staff were friendly and helpful .
Review 132:Karaoke noise every night, motorcycles not in really good condition, staff a bit over busy
Review 133:Restaurant with river view, pretty place
Review 134:Nothing
Review 135:This place is stunning and feels very peaceful to stay. Gorgeous kind staff, great food, stunning setting.
