Reviews for Antico Residence B&B
Review 1:this seems to be part of the same complex as several other hotels... they are all old-ish, but have been somehow brought together to share the same reception: personally, I can't see what the Antico Residence lacks that the others (a three-star whose name I can't recall, sorry) could have. Very good Wi-Fi by the way.
Review 2:No sound isolation
Review 3:All was great as usual. I choose this hotel every time I visit Mantova. I believe, I have stayed there at least 20 times. The quality they provide for the price in Mantova is higher than in other places. Mantova is a bit overpriced. The price you are charged by this hotel is fair enough to leave you satisfied. The only minus you might acknowledge is no sound isolation, so make sure you are not placed in the room next to the road...
Review 4:Nice, clea room under the roof. A bit noisy from the traffic, but the window goes to the rear and we could well cope with the noise. Very good price/value ratio.
Review 5:Noise of rolling trolleys on the cement pavement and of the people and storage room of the adjoining bar.
Review 6:Extreme cleanness. Excellent bed and pillows, recently refurbished room and bathroom. Great breakfast - best scrambled eggs. Friendly and efficient staff. Perfect position in front of train station with many bus stops.
Review 7:No wifi reception in my room, but worked fine in lounge. Rather sketchy neighborhood near train station, but smoothed out after 2 blocks.
Review 8:Easy location from train station...very helpful, friendly staff, clean, safe and quiet room! Great value for the money, 10 minute walk to centro of city.
Review 9:Receptionist can be snappy. Wifi unreliable.
Review 10:Right across the train station. About 20 minutes walk to the historic city. Room small but clean, quiet and cheap.
Review 11:The hotel rooms are in a old building which is a courtyard away from the lobby. The room I had was very nice and comfortable and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. The breakfast was remarkably good with a good selection of cold cuts, fruit, croissants and the local "sbrisolona cake" plus real and excellent espresso or cappuccino brewed on request. The hotel is right across from the train station but not too far from the town center.
Review 12:No bad experience
Review 13:Location - opposite train station - easy access to the City - valuable information regarding restaurants - excellent breakfast including a cooked option which was very rare for Italy.
Review 14:The breakfast was excellent - including (unusually) an 'English style' cooked buffet of scrambled egg, fried porchetta and sausages as well as cold meats, cheese and fruit, in addition to the usual options.Staff were very helpful and the communal courtyard and reception area spacious and pleasant. The bedrooms are spacious and beautifully furnished.
Review 15:The only thing that I didn't like was the level of illumination in the bathroom. There was a single bulb equivalent to a candle. I t was difficult to shave.
Review 16:Almost everything
Review 17:The car parking costs 15€. It's a bit too much in my opinion. The Internet access failed all the time, we had to if an alternative.
Review 18:Big bedroom. Varied breakfast.
Review 19:Staff excellent friendly, helpful. Great location, nice walk to the center. Spotless clean, breakfast excellent catered for all tastes, fresh and tasty. Would stay again.
Review 20:Finding this was difficult as its name is not on display. It is actually the same place as the ABC Hotel (which is in the perfect position for travellers arriving by train, (ie opposite the station) and 10 mins walk from the historic centre of Mantua.
Review 21:Great value for money. Good-sized comfortable room; large bed; spacious bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Exemplary fire safety.
Review 22:The room is situated on the ground floor of the house in a very noisy street. You can't open the window to air out.
Review 23:The windows are double-glazed that one doesn´t noitce the din from the street.
Review 24:next to main road, noisy if window is left open but then no other ventilation hard to find, the street is curved and the numbers don't really match
Review 25:close to down center has a good breakfast
Review 26:The room was directly by the street, it was like cars driving throught the bed!
Review 27:Nothing
Review 28:Directly opposite train station and short walk into old town. Highly recommended. Great value for money. Was on my own but felt totally safe.
Review 29:Proximity to railway station, easy access to the historical center, friendly staff.
Review 30:John is very kind and helpful. I had a great time with him. The room is warm and cozy. Everything can be perfect if there is wifi~
Review 31:no internet access in bedroom. only in the foyer. this was not made clear on their website. it is annoying and inconvenient.
Review 32:That I couldn't open the windows, they have air conditioning, but I didn't want to use it.
Review 33:Very close to the train, which is important when you are traveling without a car. The staff was very helpful and let me use their computer.
Review 34:It may be a bit noisy. there is no isolation and the noise, made by the public transport can be a problem.
Review 35:good balance between the price and the quality. I spent 2 nights there and seems like Antico Residence will be my choice again. this albergo is just 70 meters from the station.
Review 36:Staff were excellent. The location was great very near the station but our room was very quiet. Very good facilities, air con, breakfast was good, there was complementary water in the fridge and the staff were very understanding when I lost the key to the room. They even gave us a typical cake of the area when we left.
Review 37:Our only small complaint was that the wi-fi was slightly dodgy. They use the hotspot method whereby you get a little ticket every 24 hours with a new number issued by some machine. My android tablet said the connection was unsecured but it worked OK. My husbands PC netbook also said the connection was unsecured and he had great difficulty getting the internet to work despite being given his own ticket and number.
Review 38:We very much enjoyed our few nights stay at Antico Residence - one of the annexes of Hotel ABC. But it could have been awful if we had ended up in a different room or in a different part of the complex. They seem to have bought most of the old houses opposite the train station and put together a hotel and several annexes. They all front onto the mini motorway that runs between them and the station and it is a very dubious neighbourhood. Antico itself was lovely because it was reached through a small gated alleyway - through to a private courtyard. In theory this should have been quiet but was obviously being rented out to people to park their motorbikes and cars. We were given a room in this courtyard which was nicely done up but it had no windows and the air conditioning was not working. We were told that it was too early for air conditioning. So we were moved to the other side of the courtyard to a lovely room with two working windows opening onto the little courtyard at ground level. Any room with windows onto the street in front of the station would be a nightmare as the traffic is heavy and constant. Our little courtyard would have been delightful if there had been no bikes or cars. Our beds were comfortable, it was clean the bathroom was wonderful, the breakfast was wonderful (eaten along the road at the main hotel). It is not too far to walk into the old medieval part of town , no-where is very far away, it is a small place. The beautiful lake is just behind the station but to access it you have to walk quite a long way beside the horrible mini motorway. There are no eating places near the hotel but we found supermarkets - a Carrefour on the walk into town and another brand just behind the old round church in the centre The busy staff did their best to help us including giving us a new safe to replace a faulty one. When we left we were presented with a lovely gift of the local biscuit delicacy.
