Reviews for Champa Lodge
Review 1:Watch out for the slightly lackadaisical and vague directions for getting around the local area on your rented kayak/bike/scooter. Staff make it sound simple, but we experienced unnecessary stress and many wrong turns due to inadequate hand-drawn maps and incomplete descriptions of how to get to the tourist sights (White Mountain, Teuk Chhou Rapids, Green Cathedral)
Review 2:Great value mountain bike, kayak, and scooter rentals on the idyllically located riverside site. Friendly staff. Free-range chickens and vegetables grown on site.
Review 3:Amazing location on the river, friendly staff and very helpfull. A real khmer experience with all comforts. The perfect place for a few days of total relaxation.
Review 4:Nothing.
Review 5:Everything. We went to many of the different guest houses on the river and IMO they have the best location out of all of them. Far up enough to get away from the pollution but also very close for the beautiful sight of the fishing boats setting off at sunset. Also the daughter of the innkeeper was incredibly adorable and friendly. We taught her a bunch of magic tricks. Hope it doesn't drive her parents crazy haha.
Review 6:Champa Lodge is a semi-secluded piece of Heaven, in Kampot. The river view is to die for! Watching the fishing boats pass late in the afternoon and over breakfast. watching their return, often tethered together in an easy intimacy, puts you in deeply touch with this timeless culture. The stilt houses, which were formerly owned by Khmer Rice-farming families, overlook the rice patties or the beautiful Kampot River. From the laid-back open-air check-in, the original stilt-house accommodation, with modern bathroom and amenities, excellent meals and the best range of Belgian beers in Cambodia, which were served by our delightful hosts, Stephan & Yan, Champa Lodge was a wonderful place to unwind for a few days. It is family friendly, with kayaks and mountain bikes available and there are easily booked Tuk Tuk trips to Kampot township and Kep. There is an abiding Peace at Champa Lodge and a real sense of connection to the Khmer lifestyle and culture. Highly recommended to those who would embrace this.
Review 7:The place is simply magic! You do not go to Kampot for the seaside but for the charm of the city, the River and rice fields. The Lodge is few kilometers North of Kampot, directly on the river. Kayaks are available and the tour of the "lagoon" a must. The place is very quiet and ideal to ressource, away from the masses and the someho chaos of downtoan. The bungalows are very nice with great shower. No aircon but no worries as there are fans and our bungalow (2) was spotless. You are in nature so be prepared for a bit of nature noises during the night as well as some chanting and praying from the villages around. One remarkable spectacle is the armada of fishing boats leaving every day at around 5PM. Yan and Steph are great host, the food served great and special dinners can be arrange. You can hire a bike directly from the lodge and the extra few bucks you pay per day VS hiring in town are worth it. The bar is very well stocked and the place lovely to hang out at anytime of the day. Pets, livestock (and plenty or mosquitoes) leave on the property!
Review 8:The fact that we didn't stay longer...
Review 9:Fantastic place! Loved the talks we had with the owners and their stories. Super relaxed guesthouse perfect as our last stop in Cambodia. We have to come back one day to stay a bit longer. 3 nights wasn't enough for sure.
Review 10:The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. The situation of Champa Lodge 4km outside Kampot in the countryside and by a curve in the river is beautiful. We were able to swap our "lodge" we had booked to the Boathouse Lodge which has lovely views from its balcony over the river and surrounding wooded hillsides.
Review 11:There were a number of options for breakfast but you could only choose 1 ie fruit and muesli or toast, not both
Review 12:Location was excellent, staff knowledgable about local activities and spoke very good English.
Review 13:The location is great: in the nature but close to Kampot. Great atmosphere, the staff was really helpful and very nice. And the food was really good too.
Review 14:Charming location and beautiful view even in rainy season. A lot of activities (biking canoeing..) on offer in the countryside near to Kampot which is a 10 min tuk tuk drive away. We had a great time. Excellent food and drinks ( beers of course, but also fresh juices). We enjoyed the view on the rice paddies from the terrace of our traditional room/house. Only very good souvenirs. Thanks to Stephan & Yann who were very helpful also in organising our further journey!
Review 15:Perhaps the distance from Kompot but actually that was really an advantage!
Review 16:Loved the bungalow. We came back in the evening and the mosquito net was carefully arranged around our wonderful bed. Stefan and Yan are a delight. Hired super bikes from the lodge. Would definitely recommend.
Review 17:Leaving after only 24 hours. We would definitely go back.
Review 18:Well.....my husband loved the Belgian beers and the G&Ts were good but we loved the sense of being at home. The welcome from Stefan, Sandra and Greg was great and we enjoyed a (another) beautiful sunset and a peaceful early morning kayak paddle. We'd love to go back and use Champa Lodge as a base to xplore Kampot area.
Review 19:Not a real bad experience, but was not aware payment was in cash only (could have been an oversight form my side), was a bit of a drain on cash reserves. Just be prepared.
Review 20:the location is magic. (we knew beforehand it was bit out of town). Owners and staff very friendly and helpful. And if you like Belgian beer: this is your place...
Review 21:Nothing bad, but we felt that breakfast/drinks were quite expensive in comparison to town, especially adding $0.25 if you wanted milk with a hot drink.
Review 22:Lovely location and well-managed
Review 23:The location by the river was perfect, the only sounds ere the fishing boats coming back after sunrise and going out before sunset, that is other than the sounds you would associate with a rural location We stayed in Palm Lodg, which had lovely views on to rice fields and a partial river view, the balcony was perfect for relaxation. The bedroom was spacious, large comfortable bed, mosquito net and fan Excellent shower and decent size bathroom, everywhere was very clean Nice decking by river, and meals served in nice dining area, dinner had a nice selection of Cambodian and Western dishes, there was also the option to order fresh seafood in advance,we stayed for 5 nights and food was excellent There were plenty of bookable optional activities and very nice local walking. Also the staff will organise a taxi into Kampot whenever needed The staff were always very friendly and helpful, making Champs Lodge a perfect location whether for an active or relaxing stay
Review 24:Too far from Kampot town centre. Too many insects and Mosquitos in room as gaps in outer facade of lodge. Wifi turned off at night. Bicycle rental rate too high. Limited choice of food on menu. Noisy neighbours and boats passing in the morning.
Review 25:Good riverfront setting
Review 26:Presentation of the rooms in the darkness (and it was!) without a lamp and leaving the guest there vague description of what to undertake there (and to climb up the white mountain was quite dangerous)
Review 27:informal, really good atmosphere excellent Kitchen with absolutely fresh ingredients
Review 28:Gorgeous location and lovely traditional Khmer home. Food was good too!
Review 29:The location the view the food the hosts everything.
Review 30:Great location outside of town right on the river. Best place I've stayed in Kampot.
Review 31:Amazing setting by the river
Review 32:i loved to take a paddle boat along the river.
Review 33:breakfast not included in the room price
Review 34:location, staff, food and drinks
Review 35:Kayaking on the river
Review 36:The riverview, the possibilities to get out to the countryside, do some kayakking.
Review 37:Great staff, great food, BEAUTIFUL location (bungalows among rice paddies right next to the river), and kayaks too!
Review 38:Sometimes there's loud wedding music from the village and you may feel like you're sleeping next to a night club. Dogs bark too if some passes by at night, but they're are good security guards.
Review 39:Amazing! Just a few traditional Khmer houses next to the Kampot river. Nature and tranquility. A great place if you just want to chill out and relax, but there are also plenty of activities to do, swimming, kayaking, boat trip, peddling. The room is basic but comfortable. The staff is really helpful. The best thing is their food! The best I've had in all Cambodia. Really fresh ingredients, hand-picked in their garden, and the chef really knows what he's doing and you can enjoy tasty and traditional Khmer cuisine. They really should offer cooking classes.
Review 40:Check in was slow
Review 41:Owners gave excellent tips on what to see and how to see it. Food was excellent, some of which was grown right there. Room was very spacious, great bathroom and bed. Very clean, even turned the beds down for us. Situated beautifully on the river. Would absolutely stay again.
Review 42:We were charged for bicycles and canoe hire. Given you are some way out of town and you can't really walk in, you either need to get a bicycle or a Tuk Tuk. Other cheaper places we went to let us use bikes for free. For the price, we felt both could be complimentary for guests and it would be a nice touch.
Review 43:Location, location, location! What a beautiful spot on the river! Simply lovely. We had the more expensive standalone bungalow with views over the river, which was large and super comfy. The food was good though a bit pricey so we ate in town. Overall a lovely stay in an outstanding location.
Review 44:- Super friendly family - good feeling of the country side in the luxury khmer style bungalows - directly on the river, swimming in the morning, kajak in the afternoon or sunrise - quiet, peacefull
Review 45:idyllic location, relaxed atmosphere, good food, good staff, do as much or as little as you like in wonderful surroundings, beautiful accomodation,all-in -all a very memorable stay
Review 46:The location is far from the Kampot town with no courtesy Tuk Tuk service as offered by other guest houses in the area,an hours walk to the town which we had to do every morning as breakfast is not included and the Champa Lodge breakfast was not appealing and also expensive, the Champa Lodge restaurant is over priced near European prices some more,Coffee was more expensive than in the Uk,as the location is so far away from the town you are nearly forced to eat there as the other option is to walk an hour on a dirty, dusty road or pay 12 dollars return for local bike transport,Also many of the rooms are not wooden as stated on the booking site, this is very unclear when booking, the noise of local weddings which apparently happen often starts at 5 am and goes on for at least 48 hours making it impossible to sleep, rest and enjoy some tranquility, the place is full of animals, cows, chickens, very loud roosters, barking dogs, cats,be careful of the cow pats and avoid conversation with the owner as he only talks about himself and is not interested in anything else. Also don't accept payment by credit cards which can cause discomfort if you are planning to check out early in the morning and don't have enough time to walk into the town and find the only ATM machine !
Review 47:Leaving
Review 48:Cash only, no credit card accepted but will be in the future.
Review 49:Champa Lodge has the most stunning views I have ever experienced. Stephane and Yan are great hosts, and they do everything to ensure your stay is as smooth as possible. The location, about 3km outside central Kampot, is as peaceful and serene as you will find anywhere. I loved my stay there and would highly recommend to others.
Review 50:The neighbors dogs. The location is great but a bit off, so you basically take your (delicious) meals there which sums up.
Review 51:Very friendly owners und staff. Nice and clean rooms. Delicious food. Perfect place to relax. Beautiful outdoor restaurant and sitting area next to the river. Canoos and mountainbikes for rent. Good vibrations :)
Review 52:This is by far the best place we stayed in Cambodia. Our hosts Steph andYan, as well as the rest of the staff made us feel right at home fromthe start. We had most relaxing time in their beautiful lodge, stayingin a traditional Khmer house on poles overlooking the rice fields, withan outdoor bed allowing us to enjoy the sunrise in the morning and relaxafter a day of discovery of the beautiful region around lovely Kampot. The lodge is situated on the banks of the Kampot river, just a few kmsfrom Kampot city, far enough from the city to have a real country feeland close enough if you want to discover this lovely little city withits French colonial fee.l We rented mountain bikes and kayaks from thelodge, allowing us to venture out into the beautiful country side andmeet lots of nice people on the way, whilst visiting some temples andsmall villages. Not to forget the fantastic food we had at the lodge -1.d and his wife Channy, the cooks are the best we had on the wholetrip, and that is really something knowing that overall the food inCambodia is purely fabulous. Green pepper crab, prawns, crepes,...Everything is purely divine. We also tasted palm sugar extracted freshlyfrom the palm trees in the garden and cooked to perfection by one of theneighbours, the best ever. We spent 5 unforgettable days at Champalodge, a fantastic way to finish off our trip in Cambodia. Moreover itis only a 2 hr taxi drive on a very good road to Phnom Penh airport fromthe lodge, so no need to take another night in Phnom Penh before flyingback home. We can highly recommend Champa lodge, but book in advance asthey only have 4 rooms.
Review 53:Nothing to do with the Lodge- we had heavy rain on two of the days we were there which made the road hard to champa hard to use because of thick mud. This is a Problem which hopefully shouldn't last too long
Review 54:Stephan and Yam we're amazing and really looked after us! We loved the outdoor bathroom design - beautiful and comfortable. Kayaking around the river was a great experience. A review wouldn't be complete without a mention of the animals and flora surrounding the lodge- We fell in love with the 2 dogs, cats and chickens!
Review 55:We stayed here for a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Stephane - the owner, his family as well his staff were all very warm and welcoming. Champa is perfectly located - next to a river, with mountains on one side and fields on the other. Thanks to the monsoon, everything looked like just from the postcards. It was one of my most peaceful experiences ever.
Review 56:Wonderful location, right on the river, with spectacular views anda great athmosphere. Beautiful old traditional Khmer-houses thatwere relocated to the spot. Excellent food and service. A hiddengem in Cambodia.
Review 57:everythings, and we eat very good food! calm, nature, kayak and climbing, it was a perfect stay!
