Reviews for Hotel Gran Duca

Review 1:Not enough tourist information and some staff not all that helpful - others excellent. No papers or anything in English available to read.

Review 2:Excellent location. Close to shopping streets and historical buildings. Big comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Wonderful views of the port. Restaurant downstairs.

Review 3:The rooms hasn't got soundproof all the noise of each step can be heared for all direction street noise too cars and motorbicycle s Bed wasn't so comfortable

Review 4:The location is perfect where it locate at the beginning of the biggest street of Livorno for shopping and sight seeing Restaurant is good breakfast is not that much good but still OK Staff where friendly and helpful

Review 5:The hotel hall has to be restored and breakfast room too. Breakfast is so so. Rooms and bathrooms are really small.

Review 6:Location central easy reach from freeway, old town , shops and beaches

Review 7:Cleanness: stained sofa, hairs in the bathroom

Review 8:24/7 check in, very close to the ferry harbor, early breakfast, big bathroom, video controlled parking, staff was very friendly and helpfully

Review 9:Gran Duca is rated as four star hotel and I don't understand why. The room is clean but very small (that have its advantages - you make one step from the bed and you are in the bathroom, if you want to open the closet, you don't have to get off the bed at all). There is also a pool but you have to pay for it regardless if you are a hotel guest or not. When we arrived, the receptionist told us where the breakfast is but she didn't mention that we have to pay for it as well. I should have probably checked that before but I wouldn't imagine that in a four-star hotel, the breakfast isn't included. That is quite an important information, so the receptionist could have told us instead of kindly offering it and then charge us 140 euros extra for our stay. So if you want to experience a 4-star hotel where they charge for the hotel pool and breakfast, there is no better choice then Gran Duca.

Review 10:The location is good and the staff is quite helpfull. Nice view on the harbor (not all rooms)

Review 11:The hotel has a very good location, literally at the beginning of the main shopping street. The Whole staff is very attentive, specially Jennifer and Mira.

Review 12:small room, old furniture, very basic breakfast, there was just one fixed shower head above your head and water pressure is low, means your lower body parts were problematic to reach with water. The feeling in the room was not so inviting and cosy.

Review 13:location, free parking, staff, air condition was quiet and well adjustable, perfect window blind (could be important if you need a good sleep),

Review 14:we couldnt use the pool, the rooms are so so, the breakfast the worst i had so far in italy, location okay. but way to expensive for what you get.

Review 15:balcony

Review 16:No gym or pool as advertised and the explanation that it was closed just for that day due to a technical issue didn't ring true - the whole gym/pool area just looked unused. No bar as advertised.

Review 17:not much although the evening meal did something to make up for the rest of it!

Review 18:Staff was not friendly or helpful. The hotel restaurant is the only place open after 8:00. Very expensive and not very good. The town virtually is dead after 8:00 with no place to go for food and very limited even in nightlife of bars, etc. We choose to stay here to see this side of Italy and have a day trip to Florence and Pisa which is accessible by train but anything else you would want to do I could not even begin to suggest. The hotel did not provide any suggestion for day trip or even how you would go about finding out what to do besides the town's one shopping strip. Shopping more geared to cruise ships that use Livorno as a port. I am sure the cruise lines offer excursions but if you are visiting Livorno on your own I would say the hotel is priced low compared to Florence but not really worth all the money you might save.

Review 19:Very inexpensive for hotel if you want to do a day trip to other areas.

Review 20:Parking is not ideal. Our friends in a valuable old car had difficulty getting into the garage space.

Review 21:It is in a great location by the Medici Port. Helpful and friendly staff. A better restaurant than the one we usually frequent in Livorno. We like the slightly faded luxury aspect, but it is hardly luxe. Basically, a nice old style hotel, at the top of the range for this slightly gritty working city.

Review 22:Girl at the bar not up to speed... Asked for Gin and tonic ...took ages..!! She had to hunt for ice ..then had no knife to cut lemon.. At least a 25 min wait ...

Review 23:Staff at desk very helpful...mixup with the bed configuration...! But sorted out quickly.. Great restaurant...food really good .. Comfortable bed ..and really good clean hotel .

Review 24:Breakfast not provided (I paid for it), kitchen, but nothing but a tea pot, uncomfortable bed and sitting couch. The place needs remodeling in the inside.

Review 25:Location to ferry and short walk to downtown historic locations. Nice view from balcony.

Review 26:Nothing.

Review 27:The restaurant was excellent. The location was close to all the facilities and the area was safe. The breakfast which was complimentary has not been exceeded by any other location we visited in Italy. We highly recommend the Grand Duca Hotel. When we needed to extend our stay, the staff were friendly and helpful. I hope we get to return to this fabulous hotel.

Review 28:Minibar with 2 waters only, extreme noisy if window is opened especially in morning time (from 6 a.m. onward)

Review 29:Good to find, good location to find restaurant, staff is nice

Review 30:Room was on wrong side that over looked karaoke bar so very active until midnight.

Review 31:Location great and staff very helpful. Room was good large and clean. Good standard of care.

Review 32:The proposed parking is impossible. Mini courtyard in building behind the hotel. Accessway has square cement columns on left side and stairs on the right. If you have anything above a sub-compact forget it. Saw a KIA Sportage leave its entire left side on the wall.ONLY the smallest cars can get in. Once in parking, just a few places (which of course need to be reserved) and impossible to manouver inside. Once you get in you must run the obstacle course in reverse to get out. EXTREMELY difficult to find parking on the road outside and it requires a permit from the hotel.

Review 33:All the decoration and facilities are fairly dates.

Review 34:An unpretentious hotel which is reliant on people catching ferries from the nearby docks. It's not a destination hotel by any means, but it's perfectly acceptable.

Review 35:Everything was great!

Review 36:The staff were very friendly, room a very high standard, good air con, fantastic view. Brilliant restaurant just across the bridge near the ferry port which annoyingly I can't remember the name of!

Review 37:Heard mixed reviews of this place but the location was ideal for me coming straight off the ferry from Bastia and didn't want to travel to far. Its old charm was nice and the staff were helpful, found a great place to park the motorcycle and handed me a cold beer pretty quickly. The restaurant was first class and the food wonderful. I thought it was going to cost me an arm and leg but was quite reasonable.I thought the place was value for money.

Review 38:Nothing

Review 39:Very central and very close to the port and so is excellent if one is taking the ferry. It is also near all the car rental locations. Good eating places are also within easy reach.

Review 40:Distance to train station.

Review 41:10 minute walk to ferries to Corsica! Laundromat 10 minute walk. Great staff who could speak English well. Nice restaurants nearby.

Review 42:Was recommended by a colleague, after a long trip, friendly staff had reserved parking and nice room. Easy for evening dinner as central to many places. Great stop for a few days or night before ferry! Will definitely stay again!

Review 43:Little bit more expensive than deserved

Review 44:Staff was extremely welcomed. Location was right in the core of the city, in area of porto vecchio with a lot of good restaurants around (some of them for local people were gorgeous! we were surprised to find the Michelen Guide Stickers of The Year on the doors of small taverns)

Review 45:Good location, available parking, comfortable and clean room with lovely view over harbour. Small fitness centre with lovely warm jacuzzi/ mini pool.

Review 46:Dirty room with hair on the bed. Old furniture and overal very decaying conditions.

Review 47:Polite and helpful staff

Review 48:Food. There is no much selection

Review 94:Entrance to the garage is very narrow

Review 95:slightly noisy

Review 96:Great location with direct access to sea front and town centre, comfortable and clean room, friendly staff, parking in front of hotel

Review 97:Very comfortable, great location when you head for ferries, close but quiet, nice breakfast

Review 98:We had a lovely big room (217) which has a large balcony overlooking the harbour. Breakfast was good with a selection of hams, cheeses and boiled eggs.

Review 99:No airco in the breakfast room - you get sweat just in 10 mins., very tight room, furniture needs restoration, bar closes at 10:30PM

Review 100:Location, price, atmosphere (style)

Review 101:for a 4* hotel experienced some difficulties with wifi, some difficulties with bookings, some difficulties with room descriptions & titles, no writing paper / envelopes / hotel or surroundings information provided in room.

Review 102:location near port, good bed and sheets, good restaurant, very good shower, good lighting, large room.

Review 103:Noise from the street at night, air-con not working, explanation given that system was still on winter setting. ie, heat only.. What rubbish!. there was a traditional radiator under the window for heating. Cramped bathroom.

Review 104:Proximity to the Port

Review 105:Loved that we could walk from the ferry to our hotel and the view over the harbour in the morning was lovely. Staff were mostly helpful and friendly. The location is great as long as the buses are running, which they weren't the day we stayed. The restaurant was fabulous and the kitchen even stayed open late to cook for us.

Review 106:breakfast a bit basic for a 4 star hotel. the tea & coffee making facilities in room didn't include milk & were not replenished daily.

Review 107:great location. park outside. tea & coffee making facilities in room. lovely bathroom. fridge in room.

Review 108:Small bathroom, smell of cigarettes smoke in the room, breakfast not so diversified.

Review 109:The sheets has been changed daily and was very clean, the restaurant is excellent.

Review 110:Noisy in the early morning, but then it is a port !!

Review 111:Great food, (mainly fish, well served, nice looking), good location, nice room, spacious with large bathroom with jacuzzi

Review 112:The hotel is old and needs a good refurbishment. The breakfast is minimal, The TV channels are limited to Obviously Italian and covers the needs of Germans. BBC News, CNN,& France 24 are on the channel list but not available. The server was down on the morning I checked out so they had to give me a hand written account. They took my E Mail address to send a final account for me but three days later and I have not recieved it. The location to my work is the only reason I stay there. They also have the nerve to ask for payment for Wi.Fi.

Review 113:The locality suits my needs

Review 116:Convenience to catch ferry from Livorno. Charming hotel. Very comfortable room - although the air conditioning did not work at first, the evening manager was very helpful and solved the problem quickly by providing us with an alternative room.

Review 117:Location - but that was more to do with Livorno than the hotel.

Review 118:We found the staff to be extremely friendly & helpful and, the position of the hotel is ideally located to the Port of Livorno, train station & shopping centre. Overall it was reasonable value for money. The late checkout was a real bonus.

Review 119:You should know they bulit the hotel since 470 years.

Review 120:Very closed for the Livorno port Very near to the business office Verynear to the down town centre shopping.

Review 121:The size of our room was too small. The tv didn't work and we had to leave part of our luggage in the hallway because of how small the room was. I really didn't like how the bathroom door was right next to the bed, it felt uncleanly.

Review 122:Breakfast was abundant and the staff was super helpful.

Review 123:Very close to the ferry port good free parking and amazing seafood in their restaurant - also very easy to find

Review 124:Old school, used, to expensive

Review 125:Close to the ferries

Review 126:We would highly recommend this hotel to fellow travelers. The rooms were clean and comfortable. All of the staff were most welcoming and helpful!

Review 127:Breakfast lacks choices.
