Reviews for A Casa Dei Gonzaga
Review 1:Breakfast left a lot to be desired.Very basic and the scrambled eggs was like rubber. Seemed like the sausages were cooked days ago.Staff not particularly interested in guests. No atmosphere at this hotel.
Review 2:Clean room and quiet. Close to station.
Review 3:Nothing.
Review 4:The staff are outstandingly friendly and helpful. The accommodations are comfortable and quiet. The location is excellent in that it is across the street from the train station. However, be aware that it is a pleasant 15 minute walk from the hotel to the central part of town. I'd not hesitate to stay at this hotel again or recommend it to friends.
Review 5:Confusing to find. Signage from the road difficult to see, registration was through a different hotel . Casa dei gonzaga is located at the back of the property.
Review 6:Location was good once we found it. Clean and secure. Nothing fancy .
Review 7:hard to find the place if you're not local. GPS can't get the exact street number. wifi signal is not strong on the far rooms. hot water pressure was low on my room.
Review 8:I liked the bar and the place next to it where you can sit and plan your next trip. great service!
Review 9:The walls are thin and I had a lot of noise coming in from the room next door. This is a major issue for a light sleeper like myself. Bring ear plugs.
Review 10:The hotel was overall very nice. Clean, good sized room, attentive staff, very filling and varied buffet breakfast, next to the train station (ideal for people who like to take day trips from a homebase, though maybe not so for those who like to be in the center of town).
Review 11:Not cheap but price was fair.
Review 12:Hotel was a combination of different hotels/areas. It was spacious and we stayed in a very quiet room. Facilities were great and everything was very comfortable. It's a 1min walk from the train station and not too far from the town centre.
Review 13:The room was on the ground floor alongside the street, so we couldn't really open the windows or even the curtains. They seemed preternaturally keen to change all our towels every day, even though we preferred to hang them up to save water.
Review 14:Very pretty, spacious room with coffered ceiling, good location very convenient to train station. Shower worked well (good pressure, temperature control and it didn't flood the floor).
Review 15:The door and windows next to each other. But window is not opening properly. For this reason the door needs to be opened to get fresh air. Other than this were ok.
Review 16:Breakfast was good. Very close to train station. The room was big.
Review 17:No elevator.
Review 18:There was more space in the room than is often the case. The bathroom, particularly the shower, was large and comfortable. The air conditioning was adequate and the breakfast adequate.
Review 19:A very friendly welcome at the reception. Rossella, the lady at the desk even took the time to take us to our room and show us everything, a service you hardly find anymore today. She also showed us on a map how to get to the historical center of town, a 10 minutes walk. Very good breakfast, staff at the breakfast room also very friendly and helpful. In spite of the central location very quiet. Definitely a hotel to recommend.
Review 20:Location. Good price. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 21:location and friendly staff
Review 22:We could hear people in the neighbouring rooms so clearly it felt like they were in our room.
Review 23:Finding the place and parking. You wouldn't want a big car.
Review 24:Facilities, breakfast, quiet location Helpful staff , the town was magical.
Review 25:Pay attention
Review 26:All apart from price of parking
Review 27:The internet didn't work properly
Review 28:It was very conveniently located and free parking was available nearby.
Review 29:noice... no isolation. You can hear everything. And I believe nothing can be done about that. The hotel is beautiful and old, nicely renovated, BUT if you are sensitive to the noises, then ask for the quiet room when making your booking. For the rest just wonderful!!!!
Review 30:Almost everything was excellent for the money I have paid
Review 31:A bit lacking in atmosphere. Breakfasts rather unimaginative but adequate and offer of more than one coffee was appreciated. They could make more of the internal courtyard as a place to hang out though.
Review 32:Great location; fascinating old house underneath modern(ish) makeover. Comfortable beds, nice hot showers, clean rooms, efficient service and less than 10 minutes to walk into the town centre.
Review 33:Paying for use of the fridge in the room was a bit rude and 15 euros a day to park, a bit steep, given the room they had for cars. WiFi connection was terrible and kept dropping out. The password changed each day so we had to ask for the new one constantly. The hotel is connected to another hotel, which is where we had to book in. This was a little confusing, and only in the fine print. Lucky we saw it.
Review 34:Close to station and a 10 minute walk into town. Great breakfast. Room was lovely and a large shower which was delightful. Quiet area, despite closeness to a busy road and train station.
Review 35:It was a little tricky to try and find. We had to check in at the ABC Hotel--it would seem there are 4 hotels managed by one (?).
Review 36:Highly recommended! Great breakfast--including bacon and scrambled eggs, and really nice staff. Great shower! Love the candies in the room. Even though it is across the street from the train station and on busy street, our actually hotel location was in the back in another building on an parallel street and very quiet.
Review 37:Breakfast was good but some brown rolls and a faster toaster would have been welcome!
Review 38:Very convenient location, opposite station for train to Verona and near Mantua town centre, but quiet and very comfortable.
Review 39:wi-fi connection was very poor, and in my room the humidity was quite high due to the bad ventilation
Review 40:staff was very polite. location's perfect - just opposite the railway and only 7 minutes away from the historical center
Review 41:Personell speaks poor english. Threre were hotel bikes there but for some reason we were told that we can not rent them.
Review 42:Nice room, all that's needed is there. Good breakfast. Location great for walking to the city. Own parking (extra 15 euro)
Review 45:Didn't use the fridge, but it looked as though the fridge needed cleaning or temperature adjustment.
Review 46:Thanks to the reviews by previous travellers, I was able to walk directly from the train station (FS) to Hotel ABC's reception just directly opposite on the road. Check-in at 10 pm was done very efficiently and staff was helpful. Room feels spacious and interior décor done up very nicely with a period touch (wooden ceilings). Good air-conditioning in working order and optimal selection of temperature range. Clean bathroom facilities. Comfortable bed and decent furniture. Room is on the first floor and the entire hotel complex (ABC, A Casa dei Gonzaga, etc.) feels very airy and the open space (essentially car park) outside the room gave a 'flat-living' rather than 'hotel-living' touch. No noise problem, since I use a pair of earplugs to sleep, even my room was facing the hotel's car park. There was another open space - perfect for sitting outside when weather was bright and sunny. The area has good WIFI reception. Staff has been extremely patient and helpful whenever a WIFI login was requested (free of charge at my room's price). Breakfast was very nice with a small selection of croissants and brown breads. Refill of frankfurters, sausages and scrambled eggs kept going throughout the morning (7-10 am).
Review 47:Difficult to find. No views from room, hidden away.
Review 48:Cleanliness. Helpfullness of staff. Good breakfast. OK for one night stay, historic town, good restaurants.
Review 49:Wifi in room not satisfactory. No bikes for hire in hotel, and unsufficient information on where to get them from the tourist office. Climate in Mantova very humid, combined with heath makes summer not the best time for visit.
Review 50:Close to railway station and city center. Air condition, no noice from trafic or other guests. Mantova is a nice and uniquely interesting historic city. Well suited for biking - hire from La Rigola in Via Trieste.
Review 51:Everything was great.
Review 52:Great location opposite the train station. Rooms are very nice and quiet with big comfortable breakfast room and outside tables in the court. Staff very friendly who speak English
Review 53:not the best of locations (though ideal for those using the train). looks a bit like a converted office building.
Review 54:Welcoming staff, good place to park our bicycles, have their own bikes for rent, gave us a cake when we left, good value for money.
Review 55:The immediate neighborhood has little charm, but it's a short walk to the historic district.
Review 56:Our room was in the inner courtyard, so it was very quiet, despite being across from the train station. Parking was secure. Great breakfast.
Review 57:€15/Day for parking the car, while still reasonable, could bebrought down a bit.
Review 58:Clean and spatious room. Reasonably varied breakfast. Extremely quiet -no noise from the street, despite being across from a busy thoroughfare.
Review 59:Thin walls (loud neighbors) Not the chicest part of town but a nice 10 min walk to centre Felt a little outdated as far as decor goes
Review 60:Literally across the street from the train station which was convenient since we needed to leave early Good price modern clean bathroom
Review 61:My room was on the ground floor so I could not have the door or window opened as they had any additional chain. I also read I would be able to rent a bike at the very hotel and dreamed about it. But it's appeared the service was not available any longer.
Review 62:Good hotel with all the conveniences, just across the main railway station, 10 minutes walking from the center of the town. Also it is not that far from the Te palace. They also serve a good breakfast with plenty food.
Review 63:Room overlooked very busy main road and traffic noise was overwhelming with little abatement during night. Wifi was patchy despite staff efforts with supplying access.
Review 64:Near Mantua railway station. Staff efficient and friendly. Breakfast service and self service very good. Attached bar served us excellent tea. Walking distance to sights and central areas of town.
Review 65:Great room for solo travelers quiet comftable friendly near station thesmall town of mantova with great archutechure not a booze up spanishholiday a relaxing holiday with nice parks clean city etc
Review 66:see up
Review 67:It was good the only thing i miss was that i could not look at my e-mail i had no laptop with me, and then they have no possibility. I hope they change this for other gast.
Review 68:To check in, look out for the ABC Hotel and park up in the station (even if illegal, it's the best place and won't be for long).
Review 69:Excellent breakfast. The staff were very prompt with dealing with our requests about the room. Very conveniently situated for visiting the city.
Review 70:Too weak and unstable WiFi signal in the room
Review 71:The guesthouse is, in fact, a part of a complex of several hotels of different star rating. Location is very convenient - just opposite to the railway station and close to the main sights. Not noisy since the rooms are in the inner yard. Very nice rooms - possibly the most pleasing among the budget 3-stars and guesthouses I ever saw in Italy (well, my observations are very limited, but still); the same can be said about the quality of the breakfast. Warmly recommended.
Review 72:The rooms are are halfway between the Palazzi Ducale and Te - about 15 minutes walk. They face directly on to the hotel car park which may bother some but which didn't particularly trouble me.
Review 73:The rooms are clean, modern and well equipped. Breakfast is a little basic but adequate. Good value for money.
Review 74:A splendid room accessible directly from a narrow and calm side-streetequipped with all necessary facilities working well. Food shops, bar andrestaurants as well as a small harbor are near!
Review 75:This hotel has a lot going for it, so I’m not sure why I didn’t enjoy mystay here more. I had trouble finding it! It’s right across from thetrain station, but the signage is poor and you must look for abc Hoteland it's actually the same hotel as abc Hotel...compare the pictures onthe two websites! The name, a Casa Dei Gonzaga isn’t obvious, plusstreet number are chaotic but they both have the same lobby androoms...so I don't understand why they have two names!, The surroundingarea is typical of that next to a train station, with the exception thatyou don’t hear the trains. The room was clean (except the spider webs) and came with lots of bathroom amenities, but the sign above the sink regarding financial penalties for dirty towels from makeup or polishing shoes, from the management, didn’t sit well with me. Both the bed and pillows were too hard for my liking. Breakfast was uninspiring, with the few small containers of hot food, pretty empty by the time I got there at 8:30am. Lots of carbs…cereal, breads etc, some processed cheese, meat and canned fruit. Check out time at 10am is too early!
Review 76:The reception area looks too disorganized for me and didn’t make a goodfirst impression. I was traveling alone and was given a ground floorroom, which I never feel secure in, so I requested a second floor room, which was accommodated without problems. The room was large by Europeanstandards, with a desk, closet, frig and large bathroom, but it wasdark. I tried to open the shutters but they had screens on the windowsand thus I couldn’t reach the shutters, worse yet was the profusion ofspider webs between the screen and shutters, not in the room, but tooclose for comfort, since I hate spiders! Thankfully the a/c worked well,so I closed the windows and left the room dark. The room had a flat screen TV, but I didn’t find any TV channels in English. The room was clean (except the spider webs). I thought the free candies and bottled water in the fridge was a nice touch. There is a second lobby area in the building where my room was, which featured a seating area and a room with free internet access and computer. This was very much appreciated, but the lights were on timers, so every few minutes, the lights went off and I would have to get up and turn them back on.
Review 77:A perfect room in an old building, this is not a hotel even if the reception is from a hotel in cooperation. Independent entrance to the building. The spacious room is recently renovated with a good value furniture. The breakfast is various in italian standart. And there are a present at check-out - a big traditional cake of Mantova.
Review 78:The hotel staff recommended me to search for rent-a-bike in the city even if the hotel has bikes for guests. When I asked the hotel staff why they answered nothing.
Review 79:The location is perfect. The room is clean and comfortable. Wi-fi for guests on the ground floor. Una sbrisolona come regalo a fine soggiorno.
Review 80:There was very cold in the room: the heating hasn't worked properly.
Review 81:Breakfast was good, the location is not bad, but it takes you about 15minutes to get to the historical center. There is a private parking inthe hotel. Staff was helpful. The room is quite big.
Review 82:It's near the center. The rooms look to the atrium and are therfore very quiet.
Review 83:Avoid this Hotel Room with a motor noise all night long, terrible mattress, rude staff, the only good thing to mention is the breakfast.
Review 84:The location was great…right in front of the railway station but in an inner courtyard…quiet, modern and comfortable.
Review 85:Nothing...perfect
Review 86:Clean warm & friendly. Would stay again
Review 87:nothing
Review 88:indipendent entrance
Review 89:il rumore di notte la stanza era poco luminosa
Review 90:la posizione la colazione
Review 91:Next to the station - strange surroundings
Review 92:Nice, friendly, clean rooms, good value for money
Review 93:Excellent room in annex, hotel is ideally located next to the station and near the historic center.
Review 94:Not really a dislike, do not be put off by exterior.
Review 95:Parking right outside the room, good air-conditioning, essential when we visited
Review 96:Nice place to stay for a short visit. Very good location: 10 min from the historical centre, close to the station and quiet rooms. Good parking.
Review 97:The paid parking without any notice or sign
Review 98:The outside courtyard and the apartment
Review 99:Good breakfast for this category. Nice and creative renovation of yardsand rooms.
Review 100:Noise from neighbour rooms
Review 101:Nearby station,
Review 102:Poor breakfast
Review 103:Very nice hotel. Close to the old city of mantova , by walk. Nice and helpful crew
Review 104:Staff is very helpfull, rooms are clean and warm... It was a short but lovely stay!
Review 105:Wi-fi is not available in all the rooms
Review 106:Very clean, good service, room is warm and comfortable
Review 107:centrale ligging, goede kamer, prettige ontvangst, goede praktische informatie.
Review 108:Directly across from railway station. Good breakfast. Clean, comfortable, quiet. nice staff. A 10-15 min. walk to the center/historic area.
Review 109:Helpful, friendly staff. Ideal position. Good breakfast.I'd come back.
Review 110:Good value and right across from the train station but for from the sights and it seems very value driven but a bit not nice
Review 111:the room was clean, big and comfortable, the buffet breakfast was very good, helpful staff, the hotel is situated right opposite to the train station
Review 112:Parking cost 15 Euro per day.
Review 113:Bed was comfortable, authentic design.
Review 114:unfriendly hotel staff
Review 115:the location was very good
Review 116:Parking cost. Wifi doesn't cover all the rooms.
Review 117:Near the centre of town.
Review 118:Very close to the trainstation.
Review 119:Does not justify a 3-star rating: noisy aircon, adequate breakfast (theyclaim 'ricco'), cramped room
Review 120:Location (opposite the station)
Review 121:Friendly staff. Good location. Excellent value for money
Review 122:The neat restoration of an ancient building, comfort and kindness. One should add some information about the Gonzaga family for people from abroad.
The Fine Print
Please note that check-in takes place at ABC Hotel, in Piazza Don Leoni 25/27, across from the train station.
