Reviews for Onomichi Guesthouse Fuji Hostel
Review 1:It's a really cosy hostel in a good location for exploring the town. Quiet and peaceful guesthouse. About 10mins from station walking. The owner is a kind and helpful guy. Kitchen is equipped for cooking and free coffee/tea. Even got free mandarins!
Review 2:It's a 15 minute walk from the train station.
Review 3:Nice hostel with charming atmosphere and a very helpful owner. Supermarket, convenience store and the long market street are just around the corner.
Review 4:Kitchen is really small and there is no other common area. Only one shower. Cleanness is average.
Review 5:Helpful and really nice staff. He gave me a map with highlights and restaurants nearby and helped with the shimanami kaido. Towels included. The lower room is big enough.
Review 6:Great hostel about 15 minute walk from Onomichi station, much further from Shinkansen station, we used it as a base to cycle across to Shikoku, was good for that but Onomichi doesn't have much else going for it
Review 7:Very tight squeeze in the bedroom and the kitchen, so not as friendly a feel for that reason, everyone keeps to themselves a bit. Fine if you are with friends but it might be harder to meet people if you are alone. So tiny, you wouldn't want to have to hang out in there for too long so a bit hard in summer when you need a midday reprieve from the sun. But that's Japan I guess!
Review 8:Really cool location for Onomichi. Liked the bathroom area - very nicely done. Would definitely stay again.
Review 9:A little further from the station than suggested, but still very accessible.
Review 10:I came to ride the bike trail from onomichi to imibari. I hadn't planned any end of trip accommodation or baggage forwarding service. Within half an hour of arrival he had organised both for me and carried my luggage to the shop from which it was forwarded. He also had great knowledge of the area and had a map ready and waiting to show you everything from places for good food to sight seeing. I would highly reccomend this hostel.
Review 11:staff is welcoming and warm, small guesthouse, familly atmosphere, ideal for solo or two travelers. No breakfast but free tea and coffee and a graet bathroom with all the facilities. Good location, very close to the ferry station.
Review 12:Excellent staff. He went out of his way to help us figure out how to send out bags ahead via delivery service. My sister liked the bed, but I found mine squeaky and uncomfortable.
Review 13:The bed is not so good. But I could sleep well there.
Review 14:The location is very good and the room is excellent. I always like when I find a guest house on a tradicional japonese house. The light and the atmosphere in the room is beautiful.
Review 15:Nothing, everything was lovely.
Review 16:Yoshida is amazing! We walked in and he was ready with a map and filled it in with us--complete with where to rent bikes, get the best ramen and ice cream, and the closest supermarket. The bathroom and dorms are really clean and well taken care of. The location was also good; close to the ferry, about a km from the train station and bike rental, around the corner from restaurants and a supermarket. This is a great place to stay in Onomichi!!
Review 17:The owner was wonderful and gave us a lot of helpful advice for getting around town. The location is excellent - right in the heart of downtown! It's a cheap, no frills, get-what-you-pay-for place. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone passing through who needs a cheap place to crash
Review 18:Beds a little uncomfortable. But not bad enough to complain.
Review 19:I stayed here when for the Shinanami kaido bike ride. It was a great location only about 15 minute walk from the station. Knowledgable manager who even drove me to the train station when I was late. Amazing experience and recommend it highly.
Review 20:Common area has some tobacco smell, other than that it's clean.
Review 21:A good rest before shimanami cycling! Yoshida is helpful and bed is clean.
Review 22:Familiar Atmosphere
Review 23:Cosy, location
Review 24:The owner/recepcionist almost never was in his place. The kitchen was dirty.
Review 25:Probably little far from station but ok. Could make a larger or more colourful sign
Review 26:very convenient for attractions
Review 27:I travelled in December and was alone at the guesthouse and it was worth the money
Review 28:Beds are really loud = dorm room is pretty noisy through moving people while sleeping!
Review 29:Everything!
Review 30:Nice Host, love eating and comics very much
Review 31:a bit far from the train station and few explanation how to reach this address
Review 32:the welcoming staff and their good advices the traditionnal house
Review 33:None.
Review 34:The manager of the hostel is unbelievably welcoming, trying to do everything to make us feel at home (not at a hostel). As a small property, it feels much more like a house where everybody (usually not many people) mingles almost as a family. Excellent base to make the Shiminami-Kaido cycle tour.
Review 35:Only one shower. (But it's not a huge place, so it's not a problem)
Review 36:Owner was very kind and friendly! Free laundry if you need it. Common space is large and comfortable.
Review 37:The host is fantastic and very welcoming - as soon as I arrived he gave me so many useful tips and ideas about what I wanted to do in the area, plus some of his personal recommendations for food and sights. He is excellent and I really recommend Fuji Hostel if you are heading to Onomichi.
Review 38:No bad points.
Review 39:We stayed here for 5 nights in total and loved it! The owner is very friendly and helpful, always on hand to give advice and assist when needed (he even put newspaper in our shoes when they were wet from the rain, dry by morning!). All the the facilities are great too - kitchen and common room are large, There is a free washing machine and shower/bath. Would definitely recommend if staying in Onomichi.
Review 40:Arrived at almost 10PM, the owner is patient and friendly and ready to help. Facilities are good enough for a backpacker. perfect location as starting point of the Shimanami Kaido biking path.
Review 41:- Extremely friendly owner who would spend time with you to help you plan your day- Being able to experience of the traditional Japanese house, with modern facilities - Amenities like soap, shampoo, cotton balls, towels, mosquito repellent... they were excellent - Proximity to major attractions including the most famous ramen shop in town, harbor, station
Review 42:This is a great place to base yourself before tackling the Shimanami Kaido cycling trail. The owner is very kind, and although we only stayed one night, he let us leave our bags at the hostel during our biking trip for two more nights. There is a fridge in the dorm room, and shower towels as well as shampoo/soap/conditioner are all free to use. You can try the famous ramen noodles of the city just up the road for a good price (550 yen), and there is a grocery store just around the corner. Would definitely recommend!
Review 43:Mr. Yoshida is really, really nice and helpful! When I'm in Onomichi again I'll definitely book this guesthouse!
Review 44:Charming traditional house with spacious and well-equiped common Kitchen and living room. Very friendly and service-minded owner.
Review 45:Beds could do with improvement.
Review 46:The welcome and help was spot on. Very helpful lack of English was made up for enthusiasim. Would very much recommend
Review 47:Beds a little hard
Review 48:Very friendly and helpful owner
Review 49:Bad smell in hostel. May have been mold. Seemed to trigger allergies in many of our group.
Review 50:The owner, Yoshida-San, was very friendly and helpful.
