Reviews for NH Livorno Grand Hotel Palazzo
Review 1:The service in the bar was terrible. We waited 45 mins for 4 drinks, even though there was no one else in there. We also had dinner in the restaurant on 5th floor - the food and service was very average.
Review 2:Beautiful hotel in great location. Right opposite the ocean. Rooms and public areas of hotel were lovely and the restaurant on 5th floor has fantastic views. Breakfast buffet was also very good, with large selection. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 3:You have to book access to the indoor pool in advance - if someone else books ahead of you, you don't get access to the facilities. We didn't get access and were not happy at all - why advertise that you have a pool and spa with access to guests if not all guests can necessarily access these facilities? Front desk staff were abrupt, rude and indifferent.
Review 4:It's a beautiful hotel. Great big bed, nice bathroom.
Review 5:The terrible housekeeping - forgot my breakfast - no heating until 6pm - generally unloved feel - restaurant was 'full' so could not eat there - poor sad lovely old hotel - terribly run - probably due to multinational owning it now - must have been great once
Review 6:Lovely old building
Review 7:Shower area needs to be refurbished. Rather a 4 than 5* hotel. Our room on the 2nd floor was a bit dark and the see view wasn't stunning as we had expected (ask for rooms on the top floor).
Review 8:Generally good value for money. Comfortable and clean. The XIX century building in which the hotel was settled looks impressive. Nice roof top bar and terrace. We enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 9:Terrace restaurant was very poor for a company that prides itself on delivering a gastrinomic delight.
Review 10:Just loved the old fashioned grandeur of the building. Lots of space, lots of marble, high ceilings with chandeliers. Breakfast was excellent in lovely surroundings.
Review 11:What can one say, its a beautiful colonial 5* hotel and is as one would expect. Views, parking and the best breakfast of our 3 week motoring trip. Roof Terrace Bar, pool, parking etc
Review 12:no coffee with my room's coffee set
Review 13:Great location, and great view from rooms facing the sea and Terrazza Mascagni gardens. Handsome 19th century building, comfortable rooms. Good and varied breakfast buffet. Friendly staff.
Review 14:You get much for the price, the breakfast buffet is very good, the staff is very kind and helpful and the free SPA is just a great bonus. An the weather for the last week of October was pretty warm. 20 Degrees and blue sky every day.
Review 15:Room 426 is under kitchens on the 5th floor. So it was noisy all night. I booked room for £106 which is good value but next day saw same room for £76
Review 16:Great building in good location. Had stayed in 4* Hotel prior which wasn't great so needed some quality which is hard to find in Italy, good and would stay again
Review 17:Tired hotel. Dirty cups in room. Poor staff in overpriced restaurant. General uncleanliness throughout hotel. This hotel needs a refurb and to change its staff. Noisy disco kept us awake at night. Do not stay in this hotel. Very poor
Review 18:Floor was dusty in bedroom. Not enough toiletries in bathroom. Three lamps had no bulbs. I had to ask twice for replacement. Breakfast nice but not 5 atar
Review 19:Very grand and imposing. Nice bedroom with sea view. Good location.
Review 20:Extra small gym. Limited breakfast options. Room service kitchen does not work all the time. Poor internet connection.
Review 21:Room view. Beautiful building. Clean rooms. Great top roof.
Review 22:Traffic was heavy most of the day/evening in front of the hotel and no real sights to see in the city.
Review 23:Very helpful staff, great rooms (some with balcony), and great outside seating with ocean views for drinks.
Review 24:Along our corridor there was a bad odour which I reported.Fortunately the odour (sewerage smell) did not affect the room.
Review 25:the rooftop pool was beautiful and the balconies had lovely views.the food at the restaurant was beautifully cooked and presented. The free parking was a bonus.
Review 26:Took my girlfriend to get engaged, they wouldn't even set a special table for an evening, not even putting a table in a secluded area. Also, restaurant staff very rude when asked opening times and food menu's. The spa staff also very rude.
Review 27:Cleanliness. Breakfast.
Review 28:Noise from terrace restaurant : As I told a lady from management : Obviously staff has to clean the roof restaurant after service. And they do have to pull / push chairs & tables, that is normal. But the screeching sound does reach the rooms right below. So adding the little felt stickers to the feet of the chairs would stop that. Just a friendly suggestion :-) Or dear fellow traveler, don't get a room on the top floor.
Review 29:Stayed a night during a road trip as there was a storm & did a last minute booking. The hotel is great, wonderful views ( too bad couldn't sit outside due to weather) The dinner & breakfast were fine.
Review 30:The hotel is beautiful. We stayed an extra night then planned because we liked it so much. We had a sea view room with a terrace and saw amazing sunsets.
Review 31:Room we ended up with I had tried to book months before. Reception seemed more irritated than happy to modify( even though they were very accommodating) and not familiar with mg hotels policy of all children welcome when sleeping with existing bedding ( we had 1 child with us). Pool closed earlier in evening than expected due to adjacent rooftop dining space.
Review 32:Suite and bathrooms were amazing! As was our tiny terrace...would book again 100%.
Review 33:Room was dirty when we checked in. The shower drain was plugged and they didn't fix it for two days.
Review 34:Big rooms. Great views. Breakfast was excellent
Review 35:Breakfast seating was poor with dirty plates stacked and tables not prepared. hot food was only available if you got up early.
Review 36:Bedroom had damp and the bathroom around to shower was dirty.
Review 37:No coffee order at the breakfast. Instead you have to queue for a coffeemachine ... in a 5 star hotel? Should not be the case in my opinion.
Review 38:Very nice large room with comfortable bed and enough space to feel like home.
Review 39:The pool was not open. Staff speed- we waited 30 minutes in the bar to get served. The resturant was over priced.
Review 40:The view. The bedrooms were lovely.
Review 41:This is quality hotel with helpful staff. Our junior suite was huge, clean and high quality. Breakfast was good with a large selection on offer. Rooftop bar area provided wonderful views of the coastal area with a small pool but adequate pool.
Review 42:The bathroom had a smell and the water was running out of the shower cubicle while taking a shower.
Review 43:A super location direct on the sea! Good choice for breakfast with some very healthy things, especially juices are great.
Review 44:The staff were amazing. Very helpful. Especially marco at the restaurant bar he was so helpful and kind always and the restaurant bar manager was very accommodating with our food requirements. As was Vanessa very helpful. Maria on reception was exceptional made us feel so welcome nothing was too much trouble. Kind and helpful lady. Very good to Tallulah and I. Helped with all our travel needs. Wonderful staff in general.
Review 45:A very grumpy concierge at the end of stay, didn't even say goodbye. Was evidently annoyed as we were checking the bill . There was no milk with tea in the rooms, when asked for milk, the room service brought one tiny thimble! you do need a car as Livorno has no beach and the hotel pool is tiny. Livorno is a bit of a mess. The bed was huge but the pillows were hard and very uncomfortable. Breakfast caters mainly for continental tastes and is the same every day. Five stars? I think not.
Review 46:Overall the staff were OK, especially the cleaners. Very efficient. We did like the coffee machine in the room.
Review 47:Lack of shade on room balcony (balcony cost extra so should at least have shade) and by the pool; small pool area for number of people wishing to use it, and the sunbeds were too few and uncomfortable. Shower in the room was large and efficient, but could not be used to it's full potential as it lacked a door and turning it on full simply flooded the bathroom. These few negatives reduced the value for money aspect for this 5 star hotel greatly.
Review 48:Nice view from room balcony; quiet and comfortable room; good breakfast quality and choice.
Review 49:I always feel that small thoughtful touches such as complimentary water on arrival should be inclusive in hotels of this calibre. The menu prices at the bar are somewhat exorbitant but generally expected for luxury hotels! My tip - stock up on the basics and try any of the seafood trattorie that is brimming with locals!
Review 50:This is an absolutely palatial property that has stunning views of the sea in the summer by the economically sized infinity pool. The rooms are plush and the ample bed makes the experience conducive to a good night's sleep! The hotel aesthetic is reminiscent of regal glamour with its elegantly grandiose facade, without being pretentious. Breakfast is a splendid affair on the balcony and is a generous spread of continental and American-style buffet offerings. On site parking is convenient and a blessing when road-tripping in Tuscany!
Review 51:Staff very unhelpful in pool area and sometimes at breakfast Pool hardly ever open due to "maintainance" Have to wait a long time to get pool towels Hardly any sun loungers available
Review 52:Room well decorated Hotel areas smart and nice atmosphere Great views from pool bar terrace Good location
Review 53:The rest of the staff were rude and arrogant . Only a few beds at the pool with many guests including us not able to find space. Pool was dirty and had to be closed for cleaning. Room was not clean, wall paper coming off the wall . All in all a rip off in terms of cost. I don't know how this hotel gets its 5 star rating. Never will I stay there again be warned.
Review 54:The view from the room and its location . The receptionist Maria was friendly and helpful together with Giulia in the restaurant. The rest of the staff were rude and arrogant . Only a few beds at the pool with many guests including us not able to find space. Pool was dirty and had to be closed for cleaning. Room was not clean, wall paper coming off the wall . All in all a rip off in terms of cost. I don't know how this hotel gets its 5 star rating.
Review 55:I have never had more uncomfortable sun loungers. Some staff were less than helpful. The hotel looked tired with cracked china being used at the breakfast service, tables not properly laid and the maid service well short of what you would expect of a 5 star hotel.
Review 56:The location was good
Review 57:The hotel is lovely with an outstanding location. Beautiful views from the rooftop restaurant. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again no problem.
Review 58:We upgraded to a superior double with view room, and the room we weregiven was clearly smaller and inferior to the most basic room advertisedon booking.com. We were very upset, thankfully the concierge onlycharged us the price of a basic room when we checked out.
Review 59:The hotel lobby is quite grand and the view from the room isquite lovely, that is, if you actually get a window big enough tolook outside.
Review 60:The staff was extremely unfriendly. The breakfast buffet was small, waiters didn't clean the tables. The pool was small and what's worse, there were only 10 chairs. Imagine getting a seat with hundreds of guests staying at the hotel. There's also no shade at the pool. The food was pricey and not well prepared. Furthermore, they have ridiculous rules. You can't order a fruit salad at lunch but you can order hot food because "the chef isn't there"?
Review 61:The room was sizeable enough and clean (although the shower smelled). The hotel looks good in pictures.
Review 62:Dining facilities were limited, and menu not as extensive as we would have expected. The roof top plunge pool area could have been better spread out with a few more loungers
Review 63:Room spacious, and bed very comfortable.
Review 64:The rooftop pool is great but they run out of towels very early. Best bring your own.
Review 65:Very friendly staff. Good size comfortable room; a fine hotel in an excellent location for day tripping along the Italian coast and Tuscan wine country. Rooftop pool and restaurant excellent place to relax and watch sunsets.
Review 66:At breakfast out on the balcony we had to content with large seagulls swooping down trying to take food off the table. This is not very Hygenic
Review 67:The hotel looked like a palace and was very well set out, it was nice to have a pool to cool of with on the hots days we were there
Review 68:No TV, the first night the picture was scrambled, the next two nights nothing. Bathroom shower and bathtub was dirty.
Review 69:Breakfast and the staff was very nice. Enjoyed the roof top pool and staff working at the bar.
Review 70:The location is not great as there is not a lot to do close to the hotel also the pool is very small for the size of the hotel. Hotel restaurant also was uninspiring
Review 71:The views from the pool were great.
Review 72:Poor room service, lack of towels in the room, no laundry service except in the morning. Overpriced drinks
Review 73:Nice rooftop pool. Decent breakfast. Good luck location
Review 74:Bed flush of water in the shower.
Review 75:In front of the best beach in the city, magnificent views, large room with excellent bed and large bathroom, enough parking, good conditioning system, near the bus stop (possible to reach the station with 15 minutes).
Review 76:Very long time getting booked in with one receptionist doing a multitude of tasks at once. We ate in the rooftop restaurant on our last night - the meal was disappointing. However, small quibbles compared to a lovely stay and excellent value for money.
Review 77:Clean, comfortable, and a little bit of luxury. However, the breakfast was excellent. Wide choices. I loved a glass or two of fresh tomato, cucumber and mint juice every morning.
Review 78:The hotel feels sterile; reception staff not very cheerful & there is little or no information on hotel services/facilities. Other staff OK but always thin on the ground and rushed of their feet. The rooftop pool is lovely, but only has 5 sun loungers. In a hotel this size there is no hope of getting one, as they do not have a 'no towel' policy. The room is bland, the tv has very limited free channels and the entry card system for lights is temperamental- the lights often cut out even if the card is in- not good if your in the bathroom!! there is a tea tray in the room, but like the toilet rolls, replenishment is in short supply and intermittent. We got the impression they were more interested in business customers than those travelling for leisure.
Review 79:The location of this hotel is on a busy road, however it is in a quieter part of town and has excellent views. Nice walk into main town along promenade. There is plenty of free parking. The buffet breakfast is superb, with lots of choices and plentiful supply. The rooftop is lovely in the evenings for drinks/food
Review 80:First night superior room was small (second night was large and as expected, advise you check what you are given). Room decor a bit tired; some flaking paint and stained curtains. Poor slow service in roof bar on the 1st night.
Review 81:Friendly welcome, spacious public areas, rooms clean, big comfy bed, early-start breakfast, easy free parking, roof-top restaurant.
Review 82:Queues at the reception. Long time to check-in (typing all data from passport, even when we've already stayed several times).
Review 83:Comfortable hotel. Nice swimming pool on the terrace. Convenient parking. Mr. Giorgio at the reception.
Review 84:Pool area looks better on the pics than it actually is it's in need of a makeover around the rooftop pool - the hotel is very overpriced it's old fashioned smart and probably great for business travellers we booked for 3 nights and stayed one so that kind of says everything really
Review 85:Smart 'grand'hotel on the sea front
Review 86:Carpet was very hard on the feet I had to wear my sandals otherwise my soles of the feet would start hurting my partner also agrees with this. The €10 to watch a movie was expensive but we paid the price the connection to the video was poor as the picture would go out of sync and inturupt the film. When we arrived at the hotel to check in there was no one to show us to our room or help us take our luggage our room was number 225 with private balcony and sea views costing €650+ for 3 nights we would of expected some curtesy with help with the heavy luggage
Review 87:Room and views are beautiful the pool was lovely and the breakfast selection was impressive, Hotel it self was beautiful and in a very good location, staff was good with storing our bicycles, food was very good and fresh
Review 88:Breakfast always short of everything: staff, cups, juice, food, cutlery. Nobody offered to bring luggage up and down. No bathrobe no tissues, no sleepers in room.
Review 89:Nice building, charming interior
Review 90:Not enough space at the roof top bar. For breakfast they could offer more cheese and some vegetables. For the spa area you have to pay extra since is not owned by the hotel. No wireless at the roof top bar.
Review 91:Very nice facilities. Very friendly staff at the roof top bar. Very good value for money. Free parking and great wireless in the rooms.
Review 92:Leaving! It was a great stay I would go back.
Review 93:ticks off all the boxes: great service and comfortable beds and wood floors that are cool in the Summer sunshine, quiet room and lovely view, rooftop garden with an infinity pool and good restaurant that gave little extras with the coffee or drinks and perfect ripeness to the fruits and veg. The spa downstairs has great service too. The walks along the piazza overlooking the sea, and it is a bargain for what you get.
Review 94:Reception staff not always helpful and no concierge . Also member of staff clearing pigeon poo on roof terrace in front of people eating. He said he had to because his boss had told him to. ( there was a staff meeting on the terrace !)
Review 95:Wonderful spacious room and breakfast on the terrace
Review 96:We traveled a lot, and by comparison, this hotel should not be a 5 starsone. It should have 4 stars... From the interior decorations to thesimple breakfast, it simply doesn't deserve 5 stars and the high price-tag. It has a lot of potential, but it's not there yet.
Review 97:Great location and view, nice and helpful staff.
Review 98:The hotel was beautiful but on a main road and a good 20min walk to the main town. Also spa use is 25euro per person for 3 hours.
Review 99:The hotel was very comfortable and the pool was gorgeous.
Review 100:We originally booked this hotel for 2 nights, but decided only to stay one because it just didn't feel like you were getting a lot of bang for your buck. But in the end, could you find those things for less? Certainly. For a couple on a budget, it just wasn't worth the cost.
Review 101:The hallways are marble, the hotel looks nice, and everything is certainly clean and comfortable. Has good WiFi, a really nice breakfast, and a nice view from the rooftop pool. For a business traveler you would feel like you stayed at a nice place.
Review 102:Ridiculously expensive drinks at the pool Attitude of bar manager Wifi very intermittent
Review 103:Balcony sea view room Front desk staff and dinner recommendations Housekeeping staff Breakfast
Review 104:Restaurant manager extremely rude - we had reserved but there was a mix-up. This happens but he suggested we were lying. Very inappropriate handling of situation at a 5* hotel. No coffee provided in the room. Breakfast staff inadequate with too much to do; queued 10+ mins each morning for machine until we realised that staff could bring some, but they did not offer this until asked, despite the queues. It was our 30th wedding anniversary but there was no acknowledgement or attempt to make it special- perhaps some people claim this wrongly, but in our case it was true
Review 105:Some staff are excellent - for instance at reception and Marco in the bar.
Review 106:staff are rude, they did not put any towels in the bathroom we had to ask for it and they didn t even said sorry or anything. Room is not clean, furnitures are old, - not a 5 stars hotel maybe 4 or a good 3 stars
Review 107:room was ok size, brekki was ok too
Review 108:many facilities were not functioning; many issues in the bathroom, changed rooms and that room also had issues; curtains down, closet doors not closing, the swimming pool out of order 6 of the 8 days we were there.
Review 109:Staff were friendly, but some were not efficient.
Review 110:Just a few things that should be sorted in a hotel of this standard. Air con did not work in room for first 4 days of our stay. The pool was closed for half our stay. Resturant was very slow.
Review 111:Great location, great staff, and room
Review 112:Unfriendly staff, dusty room, pathetic resturant with very little choice. Location is bad with very little in the way of resturants or shopping.
Review 113:The hotel looks luxurious and is reported to be a 5 star hotel but this is not the case nor our experience.
Review 114:Not enough guests. Well maintained in spite of a dirth of paying guests when we were there.
Review 115:Five star hotel at three star prices. Wonderful staff, fantastic facilities. By far the best place in Livorno.
Review 116:Found some of the service in the restaurant rather disappointing. Didn't feel very relaxed or comfortable. Though this may have been a personal thing. I found the attitudes of the staff difficult to interact with, though this may have been a language/cultural barrier that caused this.
Review 117:I loved the view from the terraced bedroom with a view! Was lovely, as was the bed! The breakfast was very nice though I slept far too well in the bed and invariably slept in for breakfast! The steak encroute was absolutely delicious and always cooked exactly how I wanted it!
Review 118:Lovely large rooms, with excellent service from the staff. Fantastic sea view if you get a room at the front of the hotel. Loved the period features. Breakfast was superb, plenty of choice.
Review 119:The hotel was absolutely gorgeous, with elegance and good taste in all its furnishings and decor. The location was excellent and its breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Review 120:Wifi was slow, and you had to pay for "normal" speed. Restaurant was good but expected more for a 5 star hotel
Review 121:excellent hotel with everything you need. Breakfast for awesome
Review 122:Little or no access to Spa facilities with no prior warning. The Spa was a main attraction for booking this hotel so very disappointed. I discovered that the Spa was under separate ownership to the Hotel and our stay coincided with Valentines day.
Review 123:Hotel was big and spacious and well located with helpful staff
Review 124:two red lights ( one at the door and one just above the bed) flicker the whole night. very disturbing. television channels other than Italian channels did not work properly. Not enough channels in other languages than Italian. Bath products are limited.
Review 125:interior is very nice and comfortable. Very spacious. Great mattress, large bathrooms, friendly staff, quiet.
Review 126:The location is good, very good bus connection to city center also. Excellent, very helpful staff. The hotel is really beautiful (colors, textiles, rooms), and by the sea. Absolutely great.
Review 127:NH has done a beautiful job restoring this hotel to its prior grandeur. It is glamorous, chic, and has a spectacular view over the sea. The rooms are spotless, quiet and very tastefully decorated.
Review 128:AC was working on a cold in a room.Cold in that time of the year. Breakfest is not 5 star, about 4 star hotel.
Review 129:Staff was excellent. Room was big, and bathroom to. Hotel is in front of the beach. Easy to find.
Review 130:No electricity outlet in the wardrobe/dressing space where the coffee machine was.
Review 131:Spacious, clean, uncluttered room with balcony overlooking the sea. The bar with swimming pool and gardens.
Review 132:When we checked in, the desk clerk allocated us to a standard room with absolutely no view, having offered us an upgrade to a front bedroom with view of the sea, for €20 per night which I declined; this was despite the fact that we had booked and paid in advance for a superior room with garden views. A very pleasant young lady changed our accommodation to a superior room when I questioned the standard of our initial allocated room. The menu in the dining room on top floor offered a very limited choice for dinner. As a result we ate out of the hotel in the evening.
Review 133:Bedroom was very comfortable, and bathroom was spotless; breakfast was also very good
Review 134:Hotel was very elegant and room was huge. Staff was very professional. Hotel very easy to find right on the waterfront with private parking. Excellent breakfast.
Review 135:Sometimes in the reception was only one person, with large hotel as this, that meant waiting for quite some time. WiFi - basic, is free, but exceptionally slow, especially on evenings when people use it.
Review 136:It is 5 stars hotel, with pretty much everything you can think of. We had very nice room with sea view and balcony. Breakfast is very good. It's not very close to old town, but with few quite nice restaurants around. Free parking.
Review 137:Breakfast crew starts to cleanup at 10:15 while we were told That breakfast was intil 11:00 Great breakfast tho with à lot of choices.
Review 138:Nice Big rooms. Good location to stay when you have à rental car.
