Reviews for Onomichi View Hotel Seizan
Review 1:The Thai restaurant was a little expensive, I suppose, but you don't have to leave the building, so the convenience might kind of make up for it for some people. Also I'm originally from a place with really cheap Thai food. But this is better than what I'm used to.
Review 2:The Thai restaurant was delicious. The room was spacious. The location was beautiful, though perhaps not the most convenient, if you don't have a car. We had a car, so I can't really say how transport to other parts of the city or points of interest would be.
Review 3:Arrived at night and got lost as it was hard to find pathway up the steep hill in the dark. I think it would be o.k during the day. Could do with a little signage.
Review 4:Great veiw from our hotel room
Review 5:The owner's mum can be a little over the top, e.g. ringing three times to advise breakfast is ready, but she is harmless. It is a tough walk back home from town which we enjoyed in a masochist way, but may be a little rugged for some.
Review 6:The view was good. The owner is a lovely man and the Thai food in the restaurant was yummy and good value.
Review 7:Hotel seemed a bit old. My bedroom was set back to the mid 80's I would say. Toilet smelt of strong urine.
Review 8:Staff were very friendly and even held my bags whilst I was exploring Rabbit island! Location is breathtaking. But it is a massive hike to get there!
Review 9:Rooms can get some updates.
Review 10:Best view of the city. Up on the hilltop. Great to run or jog around the park next to it. Added benefit. Better than going to go to the gym.
Review 11:A little challenging to reach by walking with luggage. (Taxi recommended)
Review 12:Gorgeous view as the name refers. Very nice and helpful staff. For dormitory user the public Washitsu (traditional Japanese room) is wonderful.
Review 13:20-min hike from Honomichi. Dorms at the first floor are small and didn't have the view of the rooms above them. Lots of mosquitos in restaurant and common areas.
Review 14:Good view, friendly staff.
Review 15:Well, the climb up may be a distractor, but it wouldn't be the same hotel if it didn't have it. Wifi is spotty but, again, given its location, it can be forgiven. If you don't like Thai food, the dinner menu is limited, but if you do... YUM!
Review 16:It's hard to get UP there but well worth it when you do. Friendly staff will welcome you with a drink, the hotel is "unique" with a homely Thai flavor, the room is large and well used but very comfortable and homely too. Loved it.
Review 17:I didn't end up staying in the room I had booked - the smell of the toilets in the room was just horrible. The hotel is in dire need of a renovation. The use of incense to cover the underlying stench is overwhelming.
Review 18:Although close to the station you need to take a long stair up the hill and taking the taxi is expensive since there is no direct road from the station up the hill, so the driver has to make a big detour.
Review 19:Perfect location and view, cheap for the size of the rooms and the furniture included. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 20:It's quite a hike from the station up there - but definitely worth it!
Review 21:Really nice view Japanese style breakfast + Thai food Very friendly staff
Review 22:The Thai food in the adjacent restaruant was not that interesting.
Review 23:The location of the hotel is both marvellous and a little inconvenient: I recommend you to take a taxi from e.g. Shin-Onomichi, if not it's quite a walk up there with your bags. Once you get there the view is amazing and the staff and rooms are very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers!
Review 24:The triple room the hotel originally provided was defective. The outlet of a noisy ground-mounted aircon was placed directly adjacent to a bed, at face level when a person lie down. The room smells moldy and humid, and the toilet smells residue urine. Window faces plantation at touchble distance. It took 15 minutes of conversation before the staff agreed to swap the room. In addition, the hotel front is decorated extensively in Thai style, with music, incense and items. While some may enjoy the atmosphere, this is not we expected from a visit to Japan.
Review 25:Breakfast(Japanese) is good View is excellent, both from room and restaurant. Able to see most of the city center from hill. Staff are helpful and warm welcoming.
Review 26:Dirty, uncomfortable, smelly bathroom, flimsy top bunk bed, no chair to sit in, no wifi in room, toilet too small to shut door, no blinds, so too light, no personal light on beds, broken drinks machine, walk too steep to hotel to take medium bag. In short do not stay here.
Review 27:Nothing, but Onimichi itself has good food and a gateway to Inland Sea. Just a bad choice of accommodation.
Review 28:Wifi was not working - on that day only - Exit door was closed before 6:30 am , confused about that
Review 29:Great view, friendly staff, location close to Senkouji temple, museum of art and the park at the top or the mountain
Review 30:-Payments only in cash -All in one plastic bathroom cabine (looks old and moldy) -The toilet paper holder was fixed to the wall with tape! -I don't consider it as 3 star hotel
Review 31:+friendly and helpful staff ? Location (10 mins walking from JR- if you don't mind +/-250 steps up the hill) if you arrive with the Shinkansen best is to take a taxi for 1200-1400¥
Review 32:only little things - yes, it's a long way up (wasn't a problem for us), towels are a bit small and that as about it.
Review 33:Lovely large rooms, brilliant restaurant, magnificent views, friendly staff, great town ...
Review 34:Only bad thing is climbing up with luggage or taking a cab to get there. It's a bit of a hike.
Review 35:clean, friendly staff and really ticked most boxes. Buildings a bit old but for the money the room was just great.
Review 36:I didnt like that there was not any place written that its mesmerizingly hard to climb the countless labyrinth of staircases that this town is. Be aware that Onomichi is as beautiful as it is demanding for your legs
Review 37:Location is superb, but if you are carrying anything heavier than your wallet, it is a MUST to either take a cab from wherever you arrive at Onomichi, or use the cable car and then walk to the hotel (cablecar opens from 9am to 5pm, check schedule online)
Review 38:The A/C had trouble clicking on, but we went at the turn of the seasons, so it may have needed a warm-up. Also, WiFi is pretty unstable.
Review 39:The Thai restaurant attached is excellent: great food with a fantastic view! Also, there is an observatory a short staircase from the entrance for a breathtaking view of the Onomichi harbor.
Review 40:Good breakfast but very expensive in comparison to what you get elsewhere. Sporty access to the hotel: three choices: go up steep steps on top of the hill or take the bus and then the funicular and 15 minutes walk or take a taxi (recommended if you have a big or heavy luggage)
Review 41:Best view in the region, friendly staff, good value for the money, big room. Nice hotel.
Review 42:Radio in the bedroom wasn't working.
Review 43:Staff were very friendly and could speak enough English. WiFi was good, and the view my room was excellent. Dont take the trail up to the hotel at night like Google Maps suggests, lest you run into Tengu. Take the road as it is lit.
Review 44:You can look for a castle up the hill from Onomichi station and the hotel is beside it. I walked my way up the hill and with a 15kg backpack, I was truely exhausted and fell sick after! Try take a cab and save your energy for the day!
Review 45:Everything is fine, if you intend to stay for more than 2 nights, a place away from the crowdy streets, and a great view over onomichi and the sea, this is the place for you. They have a Thai restaurant in the hotel.
Review 46:the elder women was quite unfriendly . she "gently" kicked us out of the room by phone at 9h55 when checkout is at 10 - we agreed at the evening with the manager to leave our bags for 5 days so that we could cycle and then we would come back to sleep one more night but at check out she didn't want to keep it for more than 2 days ! So we did nt came back there ! - no wifi in the room
Review 47:- the view is great (you will suffer a bit to get there if you are backpacking but it worse it by night)
Review 48:As the hotel is on top of the hill it is a very steep walk or cycle to access it. You will need to take a taxi if heavily laden with luggage.
Review 49:The staff were nice and the hotel was clean and comfortable and had amazing views of the town and islands as it is on top of the hill. It has a good Thai restaurant.
Review 50:It didn't bother me, but many would struggle to get there on foot from the railway station, especially with luggage. The paths are very very steep! But the hotel is worth it.
Review 51:Great location on top of a hill. I booked the dormitory & had it to myself for 2 nights
Review 52:We didn't mind the steep walk up the hill but if you have large bags take a taxi.
Review 53:Amazing view! Nice helpful staff. Yummy Thai food in the restaurant, which also has an amazing view
Review 54:The description says the hotel is 500m from the station which may be true but it's up a LOT of stairs! I didn't realise and ended up doing it with over 20kg of luggage so advise people to take a taxi.
Review 55:The room was a good size and had a nice view.
Review 56:We stayed on a Friday (9000 yen room) that was falling a part (dirty furniture, smelly, under sink all improvised). On Sunday we stayed again (12,000 yen room) a bit better, cleaner but with spiders inside. Huge, long legged spiders. The hotel lady came with spray and killed one and later we found another one that we could not catch. I barely slept due to worries. They did not offer to change the room. Rooms have no window nets so bugs, etc, come in anytime. Spraying in front of my kid was worrisome, considering the window could not be opened as other creatures would come in. I would never stay there again. Breakfast looked cheap. For the money paid I expected much better. Also, we came by car and the road is narrow, hotel is hard to find.
Review 57:Situated on a cliff, with a great view! Actually it´s more against a cliff rather than on it, the rock being the fourth wall of the hotel, which makes it really, really humid. It has the same moisty smell of a cellar, especially in the halls. It´s allright in the room with the ac, though.
Review 58:Little difficult to find if you are not familiar with Japan's roads (very narrow getting to the hotel)
Review 59:Excellent view and good walks within the area. Good breakfast (Japanese)
Review 60:Getting forced out everyday from 10-1pm for cleaning was inconvenient. The hill was not lit at times and The curfew was unnecessary.
Review 61:View was nice. People were kind.
Review 62:The room was clean, but the bathroom had a sour smell (I think it was from the shower curtain) and the hotel is quite dated. The only reason I would not stay again is that is it far from everything and any conveniences. You truly have to take a cab to get anywhere - whether to eat or shop. The lovely view comes with a price which is convenience.
Review 63:Besides the view, the best thing about the hotel were the friendly staff (who speak English) and the yummy and substantial Japanese breakfast for 1,000 yen. The rooms are kept clean. There are lovely views and scenic walkways around the area.
Review 64:A. while in the description it states that the hotel is only 500 m from the JR train, they fail to state that its a steep hill (with stairs). B. There is no flexibility with early check-in or late check-out - when we arrived there was no occupancy in the hotel, our rooms were clean and ready, however they did not let us in the room until 3PM sharp - we had to sit in the smelly lobby and wait. when we checked out we asked for a 15 min (!!) grace with check-out and were refused. 3. the rooms are not 100% clean, and there were lots of bugs 4. all in all the rooms are quite old and falling apart 5. the price does not match the quality of what you get
Review 65:The view and the Thai restaurant, and that's it
Review 66:The hotel located is on the hill, which is hard to reach at night. But besides this, everything is good.
Review 67:The steep climb to get there (our choice).
Review 68:Restaurant with a view and room with a view
Review 69:Nice view
Review 70:Great view . Staff brought us water as we walked in as it is a long steep trek up. Really lovely atmosphere.
Review 71:tough to get there with luggage
Review 72:great view once you climbed up there; good thai restaurant in the hotel
Review 73:Up hill
Review 74:Onomichi view
Review 75:difficult to access from the station. I can not understand why hotel make a transfortation.
Review 76:Excellent view and easy to access famous spots.
Review 77:its one heck Of a climb to get there
Review 78:Friendly staff, cheap Thai food, WiFi and views. The room was bigger than usual in Japan too!
Review 79:Its on he Hill over City (150 m), dont try to go there with lagguage on foot
Review 80:Nice view, helpful staff
Review 81:No problem for me, but a taxing and steep quarter mile walk up stairs from the station.
Review 82:Sweet staff, Thai restaurant, amazing view, very quiet
Review 83:I liked everything. Nice view from the window. Very tasty breakfast.
Review 84:good service
Review 85:The washroom is too small in the dorm. But consider the cheap payment, it's totally bearable.
Review 86:View is very nice.
Review 87:None.
Review 88:Hotel has a homely place.Nice and peaceful surrounding.
Review 89:Great view overlooking the town with friendly staff
Review 90:owner is very helpful amazing view from the room good breakfast
Review 91:hard to get there without a car\cab
Review 92:30 seconds walk from the miyajima ferry
Review 93:Location up to a hill, old hotel and very limited places around to eat something. Expensive compared to other hotels in japan with better conditions
Review 94:Up on a hill, if you have luggage you have to take a taxi (ca. 1000 Yen).
Review 95:Super nice view! Big rooms. Nice lobby. Friendly staff!
Review 96:nice hotel, friendly staff, close to train station walking but straight up the hill! Good view of city. Nice Thai restaurant in hotel
Review 97:no luggage storage
Review 98:the view was fantastic
Review 99:not easy to access by walk if you have luggage
Review 100:view and location overlooking the town and harbor, staff quite helpful
Review 101:As the reviews mention the walk to the hotel is quite steep, this didn't bother us as we had minimal luggage but I could see how this could be a problem for some.
Review 102:The staff were very friendly and helpful, fantastic view, the Thai restaurant is also great!
Review 103:This hotel is located at the top of a steep hill. It is not too bad going down the hill into the city but requires a reasonable level of fitness to walk up the hill.
Review 104:The view. Good value for money. Large room.
Review 105:We walked up the hill to the hotel - although we are fit we should have used a taxi, but that was pricey. The hotel is closed in the middle of the day, but they did open for us to check our bags in.
Review 106:Staff were really kind and stored our bags for 3 days while we did a bike ride. The room was old fashioned, but large and comfortable with great views and great value for the price.
Review 107:Thevdirection to the hotel says the estimated time for going to the hotel from onomichi station is about 6 minutes. It's a big hill that you have to climb, so it was pretty hard to get there in six minutes.
Review 108:The view was awesome. Staff were really nice and the facility was pretty good. I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind a big hill to climb.
Review 109:the view is great but it's quite a hike from downtown. if you don't like hiking up and down the mountain every time, this hotel is not for you.
Review 110:Great view, very nice staff, good facilities, nice Thai restaurant, has all you need
Review 111:nothing, but i was travelling with my bicycle so i didn’t mind the height, otherwise, it’s a steep climb with a lot of luggage or a taxi ride. But don’t let that keep you away from this nice hotel.
Review 112:Very nice place with overlooking view of the city and the river. The Thai restaurant is very good and not too expensive.
Review 113:Be prepared to walk MANY steps up the hill to get to hotel. Be prepared to pay cash, no credit cards accepted.
Review 114:The room was very big for Japan. Our room had great view.
Review 115:Access a little difficult but worth the effort.
Review 116:Good value for money. Loved the view and especially the Thai restaurant. A little difficult to get to but worth the effort.
Review 117:Great little hotel, with lovely view over Onomichi. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location is great, just be prepared to walk up and down the hill, nothing too strenuous. Thai restaurant on site is nice, and easy walking access the temples/shrines close by.
Review 118:Difficult to find. We actually walked up the hill with our baggage because we didn't know about the rail cart. Also room furniture was outdated.
Review 119:Beautiful view and friendly staff. Beds were comfortable enough
Review 120:Very quaint but not a 4 star hotel. Strong incense burning in lobby uponarrival. Breakfast was only Japanese-style (fish, seaweed).
Review 121:Loved the view of the harbor. Room size was nice. Next door to castle.Fun to walk up/down the steps to/from town.
Review 122:Gerat location. Excellent view. Quiet park in the neighborhood Romantic and misterios ( especially in darkness) network of pathes and stairs between old temples, cemeterys and apartment houses.
Review 123:A bit of a climb up the hill to get to hotel
Review 124:We started our Cycle trip from here. Comfortable hotel with great view and nice restaurant. We had our own room with facilities.
Review 125:Well, the view from this hotel comes with a cost. Getting to the hotel is like reaching basecamp at Everest, except you have luggage, sneakers, and it's blazing hot outside. You can take a $15 cab from the train station or walk up 500,000 (estimate) steps. Also, while the room was large and looked clean, a cockroach was nice enough to shatter that illusion.
Review 126:As the name implies, Onomichi View Hotel Seizan has a great view over the harbor and city of Onomichi. The hotel lost our reservation, but was good enough to find us a room and upgrade us.
Review 127:The location is strictly impossible: there is a never ending flight ofvery steep stairs from the city up to the hotel.Totally impossible ifyou have suitcases and exhausting even without suitcases. There is nobus and the cable car which arrives 1km from the hotel stops at 5pm. Soyou have to take a taxi (y1500) every time you come back to the hotel .
Review 128:I like the city of Onomichi as a base to explore the area and the cityitself has a lot to offer: temple path, bike ride to the islands etc.The hotel itself is just ok : rooms are not small but basic. There is norestaurant close-by except the thai restaurant of the hotel and nolaundry facilities ( the hotel does not offer any)
Review 129:- Located at the top of very steep stairs. It is a sport commitment to get to the hotel
Review 130:- Good value compared to other hotels in Onomichi - Staff was friendly
Review 131:The shortest way to the hotel is a very steep way with stairs. If youhave heavy luggage take the ropeway! Not a bad thing either as you havea great view of the temple!
Review 132:Great location! Perfect if you want to enjoy Senkoji Park and all thenice walks eg. Temple Walk around. Only a 10min walk down to the centerand Train Station when taking the steep stair way. For visiting SenkojiPark I recommend doing so after 5pm, then most people already left. Thestaff is very kind and friendly. Rooms are huge for Japanese standardand are very clean. The best is an amazing view over Onomichi and theInland Sea.
Review 133:It was really a great place to stay, I felt welcomed and was very comfortable. As people already mentionned, you need to know that it's a 10 min uphill walk away from the trainstation, so if you travel with heavy luggage, take bus or taxi.
Review 134:I enjoyed very much staying here and would recommend the place. The staff was extremly friendly and spoke English. The western-style room was clean, comfortable, with air-conditioning, heating and a great view. There is a good Thai restaurant attached. The Japanese breakfast (not included in the room rate) is worth the extra paying.
Review 135:not recommended if travelling by bicycle as the shortest way is up the steps next to the station. Easy to walk if you don't mind a few stairs or get taxi at the station.
Review 136:very helpful and friendly staff, great views, handy location and tasty food in well-priced restaurant
