Reviews for Best Western New Hotel De Lives
Review 1:Dismal grey building in poor condition. Situated on very noisy main road. Terrible food. Young bearded receptionist entirely without manners or charm.
Review 2:No redeeming features
Review 3:For a 'de luxe' room the comfort, especially in the bathroom was minimalistic. Price for the room is too high I can't understand why they put carpet on the floor of the room, it's not hygienic. The service in the restaurant could be so much better ! We had to wait at least 20min for a bottle of wine.
Review 4:Room on the backside of the building is quiter because the hotel lies along a busy road. Close to the higway, large parking. Friendly stafff. Breakfast is OK.
Review 5:Easy to find, pre booked evening meal good value. We had a room at the rear of the building, probably an advantage, feel there was some traffic noise at front.
Review 6:The carpet in the room was disgraceful. The blind didnt work properly. The bath screen was too small and the bathroom got drowned when you took a shower.
Review 7:Pleasant restaurant with lovely food
Review 8:Location: red light district. The hotel was locked when we arrived at midnight, despite having predicted we would arrive then. No night porter, just a phone number to summon a dishevelled student to let us in. The stairs are steep and narrow, we had heavy photo equipment to take to our rooms. The panelling is old, cheap veneer, the bedroom walls were damaged, cramped rooms, damaged ancient furniture, bizarre plug point locations such as immediately above bed headboard. Breakfast below par. Surly receptionist when we checked out. Disgraceful price for such inferior accommodation.
Review 9:I could glimpse the River Meuse from the bedroom window.
Review 10:The hotel far from Namur. Nothing around. Poor breakfast. Expensive for a three star hotel.
Review 11:Diner (fondue) was great at the restaurant of the hotel. Free parking.
Review 12:Very close to road. Had to pay 10 euro extra for room away from road. Staff on check in terrible. Made to wait 30 mins to get room key at 8.30pm. Rooms very hot. Fan in room didn't work.
Review 13:The wi-fi in our section of the hotel worked very slowly. Had to try several times to connect. Location was too far from the city of Namur. I somehow did not realize that when booking this hotel. Hotel is right on a highway and with the windows open, it was rather noisy.
Review 14:Staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was good and the room was sunny. The outdoor patio was pleasant.
Review 15:Dark, dingy hotel with basic, dated facilities, next to a noisy main road. Could hear the traffic as well as other guests going in and out of their rooms and walking around in the corridor. The beer in the minibar had been opened, drunk, filled up with water and closed again and had mould growing inside it (shows the staff don't pay attention when cleaning/re-stocking.) The breakfast was good if you are happy with fresh croissants and single-portion jams and honey...etc, but the warm items, especially the scrambled eggs, were very questionable, and the cereals were old, stale and stuck together in big clumps. Unfortunately, we really didn't feel comfortable during our stay, and felt the 60€ price tag was totally unjustified.
Review 16:The hotel was easy to get to and was cheaper than most other options in the area close to the motorway. The receptionist was friendly.
Review 17:No process for allowing easy access late. Not good considering people will be travelling south. Best Western is, after all, known by the British as being a good brand. Too expensive for what I got. Asked for two twin beds got twin beds pushed together with double covers on which couldn't be separated. Slept on a Z bed. Gravel noisy outside. Couldn't open windows due to smelly bins.
Review 18:Breakfast and outdoor space/eating areas good. Possibly good location; but late at night and couldn't fit easily.
Review 19:There's a massive ditch on the entrance to the hotel. Not exactly what you want when you're pulling out onto a fast road with limited visibility. Not surprising they don't show a "standard" room in their pictures. The room was barely larger than a double bed but strangely had a massive bathroom. Who designs these things and who in their right mind puts wooden floors in a hotel? Don't expect a good night's sleep because every little noise from the hallway is clearly heard.
Review 20:Nice food.
Review 21:the coffee wasn't refilled after the first night, the cleaning lady entered the room although the do not disturb sign was on the door
Review 22:good location, free parking, very clean room
Review 23:Internet slow and not available in the new building.I imagine it is difficult to move around without a car (there is a bus stop close to the hotel but don't expect for buses to run very often).
Review 24:Good location if traveling by car. Not far from Charleroi airport (40-50km). Good location for visiting Namur (4-5km) and nearby sights. The hotel consists of two connected buildings. The oldest hosts the reception, a bar and a small but appreciated restaurant (we didn't try it). The newest building hosts the superior rooms. There are several free parking lots around the house. The personnel was kind. Superior room was big, with good beds, not much furniture.
Review 25:hotel deserves more than 1 star .. horrible, dirty, and inadequate to the 3-star declared .. the bed sheets already used, since there were numerous hairs on the sheet .. in the bathroom the toilet seat was broken, and fell on the ground .. poor cleaning the shower .. horrible experience !! only positive note the kindness and helpfulness of the black guy at the front desk.
Review 26:The kindness and helpfulness of the black guy at the front desk.
Review 27:hearing each and every move of the person in the room above me. Located along a very busy road (even at night)
Review 28:The chocolate croissants at the breakfast
Review 29:Location bleak. Room a bit tired - poor condition of carpet and blinds Bathroom shower impossible re: temperature adjustment and fitting to switch to bath not working. No floor mat in bathroom. Empty tissue box in bathroom. Took half-board option but this has a very limited menu (ie this is the main and here is the sweet). Able to negotiate change but would prefer choice being offered. Overall disappointing for a Best Western Hotel (brand we usually take as a recommendation).
Review 30:Staff welcoming and helpful. Quality of bed Food in restaurant excellent (but see issues). Parking
Review 31:Off a busy road, dangerous access and 4 miles out of Namur city center. The room is a good size but very basic furniture, 2 star at best. No soap in the shower dispenser. I paid extra to upgrade, all I got for the upgrade was an extra alcove with a single bed in it, same very basic furniture, Metal table and chairs. The TV was so small it must have been a special order.
Review 32:The restaurant. The quality of the food was good although I could not see the logic behind some of the extreme variations in prices for different dishes. Nice little bar area and room to sit outside.
Review 33:We were in the old part of the hotel which didn't have a lift and stairs were very steep. On the 2nd floor the bannister wobbled. Room was very gloomy with inadequate lighting, but was a good size.
Review 34:on busey main road, really bad road ditch in front of entrance,no lift.no tea making facilities in room. special request not passed on to hotel from booking site.
Review 35:close to namur, and motorway. easey to find
Review 36:Bit far out from anywhere and the shower was faulty but great for one night while passing through.
Review 37:Hotel and staff great! Nice spacious room and good free parking.
Review 38:very few places to eat around the hotel area,we only stayed one night so weren`t able to fully explore but although it is very scenic there doesn`t seem to be much in the area
Review 39:good location on the river bank, restaraunt very good, easy to find if travelling by car, staff very helpful, rooms clean & functional
Review 40:Only book a superior room, the standard are grim. Not what would expect from a Best Western hotel. All look good on website but in real life not good at all
Review 41:The food.
Review 42:All good
Review 43:Superb restaurant, with spicy tapas starter. Very convenient for the motorway when we were travelling back to catch the Dunkirk ferry to Dover. The hotel was like a very upmarket Travelodge, but much better and I likened it to the Premier Lodges we have in the UK. You could watch BBC 1 TV also in the room!
Review 44:None
Review 45:Very clean. Staff helpful. Breakfast plenty of choice and fresh restaurant food excellent. Bonus kettle in room.
Review 46:no sauna or gim. breakfast not included in price and charged 10eur per person is too much.
Review 47:Good breakfast
Review 48:Clean room.
Review 49:There was no elevator and the room was on the first floor
Review 50:The staff was very helpful.
Review 51:Access to car park - risked damaging my car.
Review 52:Room
Review 53:Lovely Restaurant. Easy to find.
Review 54:No WiFi, payment for an additional bed not shown in booking but only in hotel's policy,
Review 55:The staff were very helpful once we had arrived
Review 56:Close to the motorway, very useful when you have a late flight to Brussels airport and a morning meeting somewhere in the North Luxembourg.
Review 57:No AC. Awful room. Small. Smelt odd. Sheets were itchy and pillows uncomfortable.
Review 58:Nothing
Review 59:breakfast
Review 60:the evening meal
Review 61:Helpfull staff
Review 62:Breakfast was not so good.
Review 63:Friendly staff
Review 64:Spacious room for budget hotel. Good bed linen and towels. Bathtub.
Review 65:Tea-making in the room is always good to have! Good food in the restaurant.
Review 66:Nothing.
Review 67:Staff, food and rooms
Review 68:weather.
Review 69:Close to the harbour good choice of restaurant's close to the hotel.
Review 70:had to move rooms due to 1 st one being poorly prepared
Review 71:good resturant
Review 72:Sent the following e-mail to the hotel shortly after our arrival but no response or apology! My husband and I have checked into your hotel this evening, We have found the room in a most unsatisfactory condition. Has anyone been in to attend to the room after the last guest? Firstly we had to request some tissues as the holder was empty, after a delay were given a handfull of about a dozen! Is there a shortage, or are you watching your budget? The second "surprise" was the full rubbish bin. Absolutely disgusting, -full of a womans personal hygiene products. We are sure you can imagine the smell. Has anyone observed the cobwebs on the central lights? There is a remnant of soap in the bath plughole. The shower connection is almost broken. Is this acceptable for the price you are charging? This is our fist time staying with this hotel chain and we will never be inclined to stay at this hotel chain ever again.
Review 73:nothing
Review 74:Wouldn't be great for people without a car due to it being a few miles distant from Namur. Reception was closed when we arrived and reopened at 4pm. Not a big problem but worth knowing in advance.
Review 75:We were travelling to Italy and this was a convenient stopover on the way down, being located only a few miles off the motorway and having car parking space and a pleasant enough location. Decent buffet breakfast although a bit pricey at 10 euros unless you are a big eater. There is a restaurant in the hotel which means that you don't have to trek out to find dinner if you are tired and want to eat.
Review 76:Maybe more families would be attracted if there were cheaper options on the restaurant menu.
Review 77:This is our second stay and we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to the Suite, which was very well appointed and most comfortable. We dined here again and the fondues were just as good as we remembered. We'll be back!
Review 78:Position and outlook. Noisy room, both from road, room was next to a storeroom in constant use. Stained carpet. Curtain fell down when opening!
Review 79:Excellent Staff and Food.
Review 80:The room had everything but nothing fitted properly. For instance, the courtesy tray was in the wardrobe and there was no table near a socket to plug it in to. And the lead was too short to put it on the floor. The laminate flooring everywhere was very noisy.
Review 81:The restaurant was very good with unusual items on the dinner menu. Similarly, the breakfast buffet was excellent.
Review 82:Food rather expensive but good.
Review 83:Excellent location for our needs, away from the city but conveniently close to the main route. Quiet, excellent rooms and staff / owners.
Review 84:Small cramped room which was very hot. No air-con but did have a fan which helped slightly. Could not leave the windows open as on a fast busy road. Not a very good location.
Review 85:The staff were very friendly. The food in the evening at the hotel was very nice.
Review 86:View of car park, which was very noisy because of gravel! Room was also near patio where people were chatting quite late at night. Supposed to be triple room but only one bed! Flies everywhere. Very dirty breakfast area, which was also quite poor. Difficult and quite dangerous exiting onto a busy road with a small ditch to cross before been able to build up speed to join the traffic.
Review 87:Good location, fairly easy to find. Good shower.
Review 88:no tea maker.the book in clerk was rude made a comment , we speak french in thsh hotel unless you speak russian, then i will talk , bathroom very small
Review 89:breakfast ok but 8euros each so for UK quite expencive
Review 90:Brussels Grootbijgaarden room 15 1/Stinking matras ( Nicotin )2/Stinking room , 3/sheets , 4/extreme dirty floor (pots andso on ) 5/Realy bad bedmatras. 6/Noise ? a running generator allnight . we advice to close and re-evaluate that place because it realygive a bad name to the others . Price was 40 euro more that we had topay in Namur and the room in brussels was only half so big ? its a shamewe ever had a night over there , and what we paid is pure teft incompare to Namur . shame on you Brussels ( groot-bijgaarden )a refund would be the least to expect !!! Fam. Jensen ( danmark )
Review 91:Well we have to conclude that everything in Namur ( hotel de Lives ) wasas perfekt as we could hope . Really a sublime service .room 5.incredible nice people , sublime restaurant ..... a big + from us .mr.and ms. Jensen ( danmark )''''''''''''''''''please notice ''''''''''''''' Unbelieveble when you came from Groot-bijgaarden (brussels) what was realy dirty and one of the worst we ever experienced, a real dump!
Review 92:Right next to a busy dual carriage-way, so room was far too noisy to have a window open at night and traffic very audible even with the window shut.
Review 93:Very good value. Huge room.
Review 94:Although we enjoyed our stay there are a couple of things that we could point out. Our room was clean and a good size, but on arrival we were a little unsure or the decor.Dark grey painted walls are a bit uninviting and because the heating had not been turned on it felt very cold. Maybe this was made worse by the fact that it was dark by the time we arrived, as in the morning it did look better as there was plenty light coming in the large windows. Other thing was Wi fi. No network in the room so we had to go to reception area.
Review 95:Hotel was situated near the river and was not far from town centre. breakfast was included in the price which i thought was reasonable. Large comfortable bed which made for a good nights sleep. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 96:Staff were sullen and disinterested. Couldn't (or wouldn't) accommodate us in main dining room although there were several empty spaces. Seated us in "conservatory" annexe instead which had no atmosphere.
Review 97:Good location Easy parking Comfortable room
Review 98:The room was quite small.
Review 99:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It is a small hotel and god value for money. The room was clean and comfortable with a very nice bathroom. The restaurant is very good. Nice location near the motorway at Namur and opposite the river.
Review 100:Expensive food and not good. Sewage smell in the room. Bad noise insulation in room, heard someone marching around till after midnight and awoke again at around 7am with the same, member of staff just smiled when I complained. We had a trip to Sicily stayed at 9 hotels in total, this hotel was the most expensive and ranked bottom of the list of all hotels
Review 101:The ice cream was quite good!!!!
Review 102:It was right on the road along the river so it was easy to find. Reception spoke excellent English. The room was large but has just the basics. Nothing fancy. We left before breakfast.
Review 103:Stairs up to 2nd floor room...(will ask for ground floor if we goagain as my sister has trouble mounting stairs) The twin room wasquite spacious, but the double was rather cramped... Would have beennice to have the refrigerator in the room as advertised...instead ofthe mini bar...
Review 104:Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice ambience.. Great views across theriver. Superbe food in the restuarant... The tea and coffee facilitie inthe room was useful...
Review 105:Towels not ironed and dirty. Breakfast very bad, no toaster. They could invest €30 in buying one. No lift and narrow stairs. Booked the suite but it was simply a two bedroom. €160 for this treatment never nerver again. First and last time, next time I will sleep in the car with my two kids...
Review 106:One only member of the staff (an italian speaker) could speak English. He was very kind as well.
Review 107:Our room was extremely hot for us and over looked the major road whichwas noisy.I would ask fro a room away from the road next time.
Review 108:We used as an overnight stop which was convienient for us as we weretravelling to Austria
Review 109:Steep steps up to Reception, and narrow, steep stairs to our room at the top of the older building. Very difficult for cases, and no help offered despite our ages! No drinking glasses in bathroom, and Staff asked us to collect 2 from the Bar!
Review 110:Food and service in Restaurant excellent in the evening despite large number of non-residents diners, but long wait for bread at breakfast.
Review 111:Road could be noisy for river view rooms. No lift.
Review 112:Good combination of cost and facility, good inclusive breakfast, welcoming staff, English speakers.
Review 113:No wifi in bedrooms.
Review 114:We arrived early but they let us check in ahead of time. We were tired and very grateful that they let us check in on arrival
Review 115:Dowdy room, reception staff very 'laid-back'
Review 116:Restaurant was very good.
Review 117:The bins were not emptied in our room from the previous guests
Review 118:Comfortable beds
Review 119:Good food in restaurant
Review 120:Very basic and overpriced. We booked on the basis of previous Best Western experience - this hotel unfortunately does Best Western no favours
Review 121:very happy with hotel food exellent
Review 122:close to main road
Review 123:worth for the price , clean
Review 124:Good sized room, shower, comfortable bed, available fan.
Review 125:Seemed to be lacking in atmosphere
Review 126:Rooms were spacious
Review 127:Great Staff and great food. Well located
Review 128:Road noise in the old part of the hotel
Review 129:The staff were helpfull and friendly. The food was also very good and not over priced
