Reviews for Okayama Koraku Hotel
Review 1:Fantastic hotel - they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The room was spacious and clean, and all the amenities were modern. For non Japanese-speakers they staff speak English, and are very helpful. Breakfast was very good. I wanted to stay for longer!
Review 2:Koraku Hotel is great value for money, with exceptional service and a convenient location. The staff were extremely helpful and happily helped us out with any queries we had, including making us bookings at restaurants. The room was immaculate and very comfortable. Great facilities available to guests and an even better location. We loved the personal touches at the hotel, including the specialized print out which helped us find places to eat and guided us to sights around the hotel.
Review 3:We stayed one night at the hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. Though the queen sized bed was a bit small for two persons, the size of the room was spacious when compared to most of the hotel room in Japan. The location was convenient and it took about 10-15 minutes walk to the main train station. What we like most was that we could just parked our car outside the hotel for a short while for quick check-in and easy handling of our luggage before we finally parked our car at a nearby electrically operated public carpark. The breakfast was fine with sufficient choices.
Review 4:Very friendly, helpful staff. Coin operated laundry facilities on site. Reasonably close to station (10-15 mins with luggage). Excellent local breakfast plus basic western.
Review 5:Upgraded to a corner room for a bit more cash, very roomy and had a great view. Very well stocked convenience store on the first floor. Good breakfast buffet.
Review 6:Sadly as with all Japanese beds it was unbearable and a softer mattress was brought to me and put on bed. It was an improvement but still a bad back resulted every morning.
Review 7:Excellent hotel and very helpful staff. A great room and plenty of space It was certainly a different hotel than others I have stayed in. Everything worked as it should and the breakfast was lovely.
Review 8:There was no English TV Chanel's, not even world news.
Review 9:We had s corner twin room with extra bed for 3 people. There was plenty of space, a completely separate bathroom area and separate toilet. This area had an extra door between sleeping and bathroom. The foyer could be utilized as a dressing area as separate to the bath room with the clever use of a two way wardrobe. The hotel also provided bicycles and umbrellas. A small supermarket is conveniently attached to the hotel.
Review 10:I suppose it was my luck that my room was opposite one that they use for the cleaning workers, so I kept hearing doors closing and opening.
Review 11:The hotel is a bit of a walk from the train station but you get to pass by a lot of eateries which is convenient. The counter staff was excellent, taking the trouble to send my luggage up to my room as I arrived early before check-in time and left my luggage with them. They also took time to show me a map of the area and explained the location of the hotel and major tourist sites. There are coin laundry machines and dryers available.
Review 12:Third time we've stayed here, this time for 11 days. Convenient to JR stations, trams and buses, easy walk to the castle and Koraku-en garden. With several days' rain we appreciated the corner room for its extra space and comfortable lounge. Ask for soft pillows if you don't like the hard ones. Good hotel restaurant for menu and prices.
Review 13:The 'guest only' inhouse dinner was Japanese style, my wife didn't care for it, so we traded ; her sashime for my tempura, all is good.
Review 14:Room was North American size, clean & roomy. Excellent friendly staff, manager welcomed us. Breakfast buffet was good for $10.00. They provide a staff generated helpful map full of tips and information. .It's only a couple of blocks from the train station, & a tram ride to the castle/park. When we arrived in the vicinity, we had the hotel reservation out reading the address, when an elderly woman stopped & asked , "help?" We pointed to the sheet address, we were outside a 'Police Box' , she went in and summoned the young officer & told him to 'help these people'. We were just around the corner from the hotel, he waked us to it. All in all, we were approached and helped 5 times in Okayama, Arigato Okayama, ( i want to move there)
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:The hotel is close to the train station and in the neighbourhood of many restaurants. We had a big spacious room with very comfortable beds. The hotel provides you with their own map, which contains many good restaurants in the area.
Review 17:Nothing. It is a great hotel.
Review 18:Both the director and the manager, nasa were so kind to us and helped find crutches for us. Our room was ready for us and it was very clean and so comfortable especially with my injury. This hotel and the staff are the best. The location is perfect for train travel and the breakfast is delicious.
Review 19:All-in-all a very enjoyable stay. The small map they gave us upon checking in was a very nice touch and showed some nice places near the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. The buffet breakfast and take-away coffee were great.
Review 20:Really friendly helpful staff that made you feel very welcome. They seemed genuinely happy that someone from so far away had chosen their hotel! And I didn't have to mangle the Japanese language too often because everyone spoke pretty good English.
Review 21:My wood spoon was accidentally thrown away...
Review 22:Near 後樂園and 岡山城 and lots of restaurants and shopping malls. Including shower hats and hair dry(NE56). Thanks for servants help that we can sleep in the same room for 3 nights. Double room size is big enough for two peoplea:)
Review 23:Large room, window with pleasant view, coffee as well as green tea supply in room, handy map of area designed by staff, wonderful breakfast buffet. Stay here and travel to other nearby destinations, you won'the find a nicer hotel.
Review 24:The room was small and the breakfasts a little odd (trying to cater for all sorts of international tastes) but nonetheless extremely good value for money.
Review 25:Excellent location, friendly helpful staff, free bicycle hire (highly recommended for getting to the castle and the wonderful Korakuen gardens).
Review 26:Central location, comfort, friendly staff, room size, amenities for guests and value for money. Availability of free wi-fi and coin operated washing machines and driers an unexpected but very welcome service.
Review 27:Staff were friendly and happily put a softer topper on the beds; Our double room was spacious. Located right on the canal and a short walk or tram ride from the station, it was surrounded by excellent places to eat and easy to access all attractions.Staff provided a map of the local area with places to eat and visit. Best hotel of our stay in Japan.
Review 28:Very good hotel, well located (walking: 5min from the Okayama station and 20min from the Korakuen garden). Very good wifi connexion. Great quality price ratio! And the hotel prepared a list of the good restaurants between the stationa nd the garden with comments, timing and price range for each. Very useful!! And they distribute a small pack of chocolates when you do the check-in: nice attention :)
Review 29:Be sure to turn right out of the station, hotel is in the street to the right of the main street. We crossed the street to the left & walked way too far...
Review 30:Staff very helpful & friendly, especially the Manager who talked to us whenever he saw us & gave us a parting thank you gift for staying at the hotel. Location - very close to the station, in the road to the right of the main street Facilities very good, including being able to borrow clothes airer from reception to dry laundry. Breakfast was very good - large selection and amount.
Review 31:english map showing places to eat etc around the hotel provided by reception, location close to the station, massage chair in the room, combini shop in the basement
Review 32:No bad experience, only good.
Review 33:Great location, charming and efficient staff, bicycle loans all of which were much appreciated. Also the staff had prepared a brief restaurant recommendation sheet which was very useful.
Review 34:Confortabile room, staff is very kind and nice. Hotel is close to the main city attractions- castle and gardens. Excellent price/ quality ratio!!!! We warmly recommend this hotel.
Review 35:NOTHING.
Review 36:The kindness and generosity of the wonderful director Mr Yamamoto,,and the staff in reception, the best in Japan . dont miss this lovely hotel.OUTSTANDING...
Review 37:Very hard pillows, softer pillows were available but we didn't realize this until we checked out. Otherwise an excellent choice for a short stay.
Review 38:Good location, close to the station, tram and local restaurants and places of interests. Staff very helpfull
Review 39:Breakfast was a bit too Japanese for my taste; the western style breakfast options were limited.
Review 40:Very central location. They gave me a map of all the best dining options in the neighbourhood, this was very helpful, had the best dinner of my entire trip in Japan.
Review 41:The staf is very professional and friendly. They answered questions almost before they were asked. Amazing stay. Good maps of park and surroundings. Not far from pretty good okonomi yaki (see t.a.)
Review 42:I liked everything.
Review 43:Staff was flexible and nice. They recommended a delicious restaurant and arranged a visit to the public bath with a taxi that waited at the place until we finished. They staff was so helpful and patient.
Review 44:Hard beds and pillows but you can ask to change this.
Review 45:This place was so comfortable. It looks a little dated but it is still so convenient and easy. We used this as a base for Naoshima and the gardens and it worked really well. They give you a map and very good recommendations for nearby restaurants. Spacious rooms and very well priced. Loved this hotel
Review 46:Staff were extra helpful, everything done professionally and with pleasure. Immaculate room. Communal microwave, washing machine, dryer, icemaker made this almost a home away from home. Fantastic value for money. Central to town. Okayama is a great base for many other places. Could not fault this hotel.
Review 47:Quite pricy and didn't include breakfast. Personnel seemed a bit lackluster, not unfriendly though.
Review 48:Excellent location, bit it's quite pricy, and doesn't include breakfast (that's another 900 yen or so). Large room with a good bed though, and you get a massage chair! I also really loved the cute handdrawn with tips in the area.
Review 49:Friendly staff, clean and nice rooms, great breakfast buffet. They gave useful information about restaurants and sights nearby. Not so far from the station.
Review 52:Bed was one of the very hard ones. I did discover later that I could have asked for a mattress "topper" but as only stayed 1 night...
Review 53:Walk out of the station follow the tram tracks about 300m to where it crosses a canal. Crossover to the right and the hotel is on the first corner on the right. Entrance is in the side street. I had a problem finding it at first because I didn't realise it was so close.
Review 54:Loved the hotel.Easy walk to station for day trips. Friendliest manager! Changed our beds immediately when the mattress was to hard. Breakfast great and cheap. Biggest room on our Japanese trip even with a couch in and the cheapest of all the hotels ! Of course we had the corner room. Lovely views...
Review 55:The hotel is less than 10 min walk away from the train station. There are a lot to eat and shop around the hotel and the train station, it's very convenient. It's also fairly close to most of the attractions. Tram station is 1 min walk from the hotel. Hotel price is very reasonable. Affordable even for solo travellers.
Review 56:Bidet was dirty when I arrived.
Review 57:The hotel is very well ubícated, about 10 -15 minutes walk to the Okayama Castle and Korakuen Gardens. From train Station, you might take the main Avenue ( also about 10-15 minutes walk) but, coming out of the train and bus Station, to the left there is a covered pedestrian walk, that makes the walk faster, and convenient if it is raining, just walk to the end and turn right after the little stream , cross the main Avenue and half a bloch further there is the hotel between the post office and a convenient store. Staff is very polite and friendly, only a few speaking good english. Rooms are very clean , with kettle, AC working perfectly, plasma TV with only one or two english channels. Bathroom with nice toiliteries, bidet ( a little sorry but was clean de after I told them). Más sabe chair was terrific after a tiring day at the Gardens.
Review 58:Staff were fantastic, the room was very comfortable and quite large for Japan standards (we had a double with massage chair), location was good and the hotel gave some great recommendations for places to eat nearby. A great experience
Review 59:I like the hotel is just next to the cannel park and walking along is quite enjoyable and comfortable. Not far away from the Okayama Korakuen Garden and Castle and many museums. The lift secure system is highly appreciated.
Review 60:The bed was a bit hard - quite typical of Japanese hotels so not unexpected
Review 61:Easy walk from station and close to many and varied restaurants. Windows could be opened. Staff provided a map (in English) and suggestions of things to do and places to eat.
Review 62:Breakfast not included. I asked for late check out at 1200 hrs instead of 1100 hrs after 3 nights stay but they said that rate would be charged. I don't remember exactly the rate but it seemed not worth so that I packed my luggage early in the morning and checked out before going for the last tourist spot that morning.
Review 63:Value for money and just 10 mins walking distance from JR station. Plenty of good restaurants nearby (but all good restaurants were fully booked during my 3 nights stay though it was not the peak season).
Review 64:The hard mattress, though it was possible to ask for a softer mattress topper, so not as much of a problem.
Review 65:Exceptional customer service, convenient location. The massage chair was a nice touch!
Review 66:Some of the pillows were hard!
Review 67:Excellent and attentive staff and very good buffet breakfast at a reasonable price. Beautifully appointed rooms and bathrooms with all mod cons.
Review 68:No bad points. About 5 min walk to the train station.
Review 69:Staff were very helpful and the hotel has a coin laundry and micro wave ovens available - useful for travelers on an extended trip. Very comfortable hotel. Good base for exploring the art islands (approx 1hr away). Situated next door is the ehm.. Love drug pharmacy and although I did not seek out the possibility of acquiring the eponymous wares, it was useful for purchasing a range of convenience goods.
Review 70:I found a cigarette butt in the room, which supposed to be cleaned. Some hotels will accommodate late check-out for free; but be aware that this hotel will charge you for it.
Review 71:really like the massage chair! very comfortable!
Review 72:Nothing.
Review 73:The location is key. Only a 5 minute walk from Okayama Station, 15-20 minute walk to Korakuen and Okayama Castle. Plenty of restaurants and stores near the hotel and a convenience store on the bottom floor. The shopping district is a stone's throw away as well. Breakfast buffet is also lovely.
Review 74:There was really nothing we did not like.
Review 75:The luxury spacious room with sofa and good beds. Supporting staff. Excellent location. Excellent price performance.
Review 76:Did not like having to leave!
Review 77:Everything was just fabulous. We had a corner room which was so spacious. The buffet breakfast, excellent. Great location; 5 minute walk to the train station and 10 to 15 minute walk to Okayama castle and garden.
Review 78:Although the staff was extremely pleasant, we were a bit surprised that no one spoke a word of English. This only surprised us because of the fact that they are actively soliciting international visitors. Fortunately, they were very patient with our "sign language" and pictures.
Review 79:The location is an easy 5 minutes walk from the train station. The hotel provided a vast array of amenities; they even had literature asking us to let them know if we would like to have a softer mattress. The property was extremely clean and modern. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 80:There was only one slice of bread left when we went to breakfast and we were told there wasn't any more despite us being in time for breakfast
Review 81:Very friendly staff, great amenities for the price, location good for train station and restaurants, coffee available in breakfast area to take away
Review 82:Only had smoking rooms left and smelt like smoke - book early to avoid!
Review 83:Staff were so friendly. Lots of methods to combat smell of smoke. Beautiful artefacts. Convenience store on site. Close to rail station. Ask at reception for map and restaurant recommendations!
Review 84:Staff speak really bad or no English, which make requests difficult. but try to help.
Review 85:Location between Central Station and Shopping Down town. Concenience Food store open Till 24h Bring in Food and Drinks allowed Everything was there, even details like different hangers for different clothings
Review 86:We liked everything!
Review 87:Having spent the past several weeks traveling in Japan, it was a real pleasure to discover this gem of a hotel - one of the best of our trip. First of all, the reception staff were really excellent and the hotel manager (well, I think it was the manager) was very present and took a strong interest in meeting all of our needs. In fact, all of the staff were very responsive and proactive. 10/10 for the staff! And a special mention for the manager, who was really exceptional. The hotel is located only about a 5-10 minutes walk from the train station, and close to lots of restaurants recommended by the hotel and a number of shops. Plus in walking distance to the castle and gardens. Great location! The room was very comfortable, and even included an electric massage chair - great after weeks of dragging baggage around! The restaurant was an unexpected treat. We thought we would have a simple lunch while waiting on our room to be ready....and we were delighted to be served enormous amounts of quality food at very reasonable prices. The hotel has a very convenient coin laundry. This was the only hotel we stayed in during our 3 weeks in Japan which offered this service, and it came in very handy!!
Review 88:Actually, there isn't much I could complain about. As always in big hotel, everything is a bit impersonal. Despite being quite cheap, the place is rather business-style and elegant. This means, a backpacker might feel a little underdressed. On the other hand, as a foreigner in Japan you always feel underdressed - and, in this particular hotel, I was treated very kindly by everybody, despite looking like a bum.
Review 89:Overall, this is a very nice place. Everything is tidy and in good shape, the staff is nice, and the room has everything you need (including shampoo, toothbrush, tea-making facilities, etc.) The location is very good, in walking distance from the main railwaystation, many good restaurants, and the major sights (that is, Korakuen Garden). Great value for money.
Review 90:I am nit picking here as it really didn't really matter, but if this hotel had had a bar then it would have been perfect.
Review 91:Super efficient check in. Great location. Five minute walk from station and an attractive canal side street. Lovely staff. Fabulous room with everything we needed. Loved it!
Review 92:The staff was very friendly and spoke good English. Location is excellent. The hotel has a good map of Keroukan garden and local restaurants.
Review 93:very narrow space between table and bed. hard to move around.small room.
Review 94:location, service and comfort
Review 95:fantastic location and helpful staff.
Review 96:Very comfortable, and on arrival staff provided both chocolates and an English-language map with fellow travellers' recommendations - very handy!
Review 97:NA

Review 99:We had a corner large room with seperate bath and toilet. The staff were excellent. Location is within walking distance of the Okayama station.
