Tenuta Di Ricavo

Tenuta Di Ricavo descritpion
This medieval hamlet, surrounded by nearly 1000 acres of nature reserve in the heart of the Chianti hills, has been lovingly restored and converted to a 4-star hotel.
Authentic Tuscan charm and idyllic surroundings meet with modern comfort in perfect harmony at the hotel, which is composed of a manor house and 4 surrounding farmer’s cottages. The hotel is tucked away from the noisy main roads and busy urban centers. However, despite its quiet location, the hotel is extremely central, exactly on the border between the provinces of Siena and Florence.
When you are not relaxing in one of the hotel’s 2 swimming pools or reading in the library, you can walk on the marked paths around the hotel or enjoy a work out at the gym. The hotel is open from April to October.

Reviews for Tenuta Di Ricavo
Review 1:Beautiful setting in forest, with friendly and attentive staff and good restaurant. Nearby Castellina in Chianti itself is a lovely old town with small square and plenty of nice places to eat.
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:Everthing. A small unpaved road lead to this amazing Tenuta, giving the spirit of Chianti zone. Friendly staff, great breakfast, very confortable, very clean and great location to explore Tuscany roads.
Review 4:My partner and I had such an incredible time. The staff were knowledgeable of the sights to see and places near by to enjoy. We especially enjoyed the restaurant La Pecora Nera. The staff were outstanding and the food was incredible. A big thank you to Alessandro for his excellent recommendations on the local wine.
Review 5:Everything! Set in picturesque surrounds, the location, ambience, staff and facilities were amazing. We were provided with a free upgrade upon arrival to make our stay more comfortable and we sincerely appreciated it. I could not recommend the property more highly.
Review 6:We appreciated the warm welcome at the Tenuta di Ricavo and the romantic atmosphere. The calm surrounding was stunning and the restaurant served excellent food.
Review 7:Christina and all of her staff were fantastic. We stayed 3 weeks in Italy and and toured all the big cities and sites and Christina's dining was the best!!
Review 8:Tranquil, peaceful, great facilities. Lovely rooms, helpful and pleasant staff, this is our second time at Tenuta di Ricavo, it is a very special place.
Review 9:Hotel felt tired, very seventies. Mattress old, bed squeaked. Bathroom fittings felt old and poor quality. Very cheap toilet seat, horrible shower curtain, large unattractive strip light in bathroom, flat screen TV balanced on an old style TV wall mount. Restaurant food seriously salty, others complained about this too. It did not improve despite requests to use less salt. Menus boring, main courses had no sauces, and the same 4 options offered plus one special each night. On the last night the special desert was apple pie with ice cream, whereas the main menu offered apple pie with cream!!
Review 10:Great location for exploring Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa and Chianti country, although the 1km unmade road would benefit from some attention. Very peaceful except for 2 annoying dogs barking early each morning. Wifi was good - had a router in our room, although not all rooms have this facility. Room was clean.
Review 11:Nothing. There is no elevator, but the staff helped haul our luggage up.
Review 12:Amazingly beautiful property tucked away in the country side. Close to tourist attractions like Siena and Sangimignano if you have your own car. Without a car, this property will be difficult to access. Great facilities, wine and dine options. Spacious bedrooms. Serene, quiet and peaceful. Would readily recommend to anyone who is looking forward to a vacation in the Chianti hills
Review 13:The roadway to the hotel was a little rough but not a problem with care for low ride height cars. We did suffer from insect bites despite precautions - but we noticed from looking at other people this was something general to the area and not only the hotel. It was August and very hot
Review 14:We were on a car touring holiday - so had stayed at a few hotels before this one. The hotel and the accommodation ( 1 bed Suite) was excellent and spacious with own balcony with sun loungers. Lovely setting which is in a very peaceful location away from it all. Good choice at breakfast and very relaxed atmosphere. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good base for sightseeing the area.
Review 15:Breakfast only comes with percolated coffee. If you want an espresso, you get the first one free then you have to pay. Boiled eggs are provided but if you want any other kind you pay extra. That is not a complaint, I just found that odd compared to other hotels in Italy.
Review 16:This hotel felt like we were staying with family or good friends. The place was fully booked and every guest was relaxed and smiling throughout the day. You are surrounded by serenity, beauty and comfort within the property and in the surrounding hills. All the people on staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The hotel is in a central location and all the famous tourist attractions are a short drive away. This hotel performed above and beyond our expectations and thoroughly deserves an excellent rating.
Review 17:We were so sorry to leave such a super place.
Review 18:Superb and helpful reception staff, who gave us fantastic support in exploring Chianti to its full. Fabulous views from every angle. Utterly picturesque building, just how you visualise an Italian villa to look.
Review 19:Food and drinks far too expensive. €5 for a small glass of beer. €6 for a plate of 'vegetables of the day', which turned out to be one sliced zucchini.
Review 20:Very nice location.
Review 21:Fabulous place. This family-runned place is very carefully maintained. The garden is beautiful. There are two neat pools, 1 hiking path, and a gym(I didn't go). I booked a suite, the sitting room and the balcony is comfortable. The lamb they cooked is the best I had in Italy. Very good for family with kids and for relaxation.
Review 22:Bathroom was a little old and worn, but not enough to be a huge problem
Review 23:Location and quietness. Beautiful surroundings and a good sized room. Friendly staff
Review 24:Absolutely nothing
Review 25:The location for touring the Chianti region by car is fantastic. Tenuta (means estate) Di Ricavo is indeed extensive, quiet, well off the main road. It provides an idyllic perspective over several valleys and wild life can be easily seen via the various marked nature walks. The property is in a courtyard style with a limited number of stone built villas privately situated. There are two pools and an old church on site. The business is Scottoni family owned spanning several generations with a very high standard of food and service in evidence. It will appeal to the discerning traveller. The food is of top quality and reflects the excellent Tuscan regional cooking and fine wines. Castellina is close by and imho the "gem " of Chianti. There are several interesting shops and restaurants for dinner. As a keen amateur photographer the region provides a wealth of landscapes. I would not hesitate to return to Tentuta Di Ricavo to see the different seasons.
Review 26:Dinner food was inconsistent in quality. Pork medallions were tender and juicy. Roast chicken was dry and over done. Sides were excellent. French fries were very hot and delicious.
Review 27:Loved the serene setting. The pools were great. Terrace dining spot was beautiful. Staff extremely helpful and pleasant.
Review 28:The roads unless you like roller coaster rides then you will be fine!
Review 29:This hotel has a cool rustic Tuscan vibe, it is quiet and secluded the property has 2 pools to relax in and is centrally located to Siena and Florence and there are plenty of wineries nearby. I would recommend this location as it is away from the busy cities. Restaurant was very good on site.
Review 30:- Wi-Fi in public area only, poor/unstable connection. - Mobile network signal is weak (hotel is surrounded by hills). Difficult to make calls. Forget data connectivity. - Staff was professional, but seemed tired of tourists. Perhaps the end of season was close. - Bed was very firm compared to most of hotels.
Review 31:- Whole village/hotel is absolutely gorgeous. - Location is very convenient if you plan to use hotel as a base for the exploration of Tuscany. - Food is good, but on the expensive side. - Very clean. - Would recommend for couples, not families.
Review 32:Breakfast offered no variety from day to day. Would have liked something hot (scrambled eggs, etc.)
Review 33:Friendly staff, wonderful menu prepared w/local fresh ingredients. One of the best meals we had (group of 7 family & friends). Lovely villas and met the 3rd generation owner, who was very knowledgeable and welcoming.
Review 34:No vegetables for breakfast. That's all.
Review 35:Wonderful place with helpful and cheerful Staff. Lovely terrace and a amazing garden, the whole place is very restful. Great restaurant and splendid breakfast. ...the Book "Mein Leben in Ricavo" is also nice :)
Review 36:Long bumpy track to Hotel
Review 37:Peace and Quite Rooms were large, clean and comfortable being part of a large old estate house Plenty of choice for Breakfast nicely laid out
Review 38:There is no wi-fi in the rooms and the connection is spotty in the library. The best connection is just outside the wi-fi room at the table and chairs overlooking the pool. But who needs the Internet when you're surrounded by such beauty in Tuscany.
Review 39:This was exactly what we wanted while staying in Tuscany. The grounds are even more beautiful in person, and the food at the restaurant was excellent. It's the perfect mix of comfort and rustic Tuscany. Great neighborhood for driving and eating.
Review 40:The un-heated pool was far too cold for me ( but not for other braver souls!)
Review 41:After 3 busy days of culture in Florence and Lucca, this was a wonderfully welcome retreat to relax and recuperate in. Set in beautiful countryside close to the lovely Castellina in Chianti, this gorgeous villa had lovely bedrooms and great shared areas. The on site restaurant was good quality and all staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 42:Terrible dirt road leading to the hotel. Apparently because it's in a nature reserve there's nothing the hotel can do to improve it, but luckily we weren't driving a sports car !
Review 43:The location is very rural. The gardens around the hotel are very well maintained yet naturally beautiful, and sweet scented. Attention to detail, i.e. lots of interesting areas to see, an abundance of pots with geraniums in all areas, but all areas were clean and well maintained.
Review 44:The only downside is our stay fell over a Sunday night when the restaurant is closed so we had to go to Catellina in Chianti for dinner, there was a festival on which made the journey longer than needed and that evening wasn't as relaxing as we had hoped.
Review 45:We stayed in mid August this year whilst on our honeymoon around Tuscany and spent 3 nights there. We had a great time there, the pools were great, staff very welcomig and accommodating and the food in the restaurant was lovely. We ended up having breakfast, lunch and dinner there as it was so good. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to relax and be in the heart of Chianti for a few days. The views and location is amazing.
Review 46:Maybe only the insects when we were at the pool, but it ia also part of the charm :)
Review 47:We had a wonderful stay, best location, the most beautiful room, we enjoyed some excellent diners in the restaurant. There is no WiFi in the rooms normally which I overlooked when I made the booking. The hotel did however do their utmost and I really appreciate this a lot.
Review 48:Facitities were fine and clean but not more than that. Given the fact that TdR is a higher priced hotel we expected more from rooms, service and facilities. Its in the little things: no large water bottles in room. Option is to drink 2€ small bottle from minibar or get in car and drive for 10kms. Its not about the cost: all about service.. Missed the Italian flair.
Review 49:Wonderful and quiet location. Kind staff
Review 50:We woke up every morning because of the noise from the upper floor, and it's not that our neighbors were too noisy. Disadvantages of a very old building. Breakfast is poor -coffee extra charged.
Review 51:Very beautiful scenery. Absolutely quiet place. If you are looking for a small isolated hotel overlooking a beautiful forest, this is the place for you.
Review 52:Beautiful hotel with fantastic garden & two nice swimming pools. Very good restaurant. Excellent staff. Delicious breakfast served on the tarrace when the weather is good. Great value for money. The atmosphere of this place is magic. Perfect for romantic trip (honeymoon!)
Review 53:The public road to the hotel is unmade, which is terrible for the car. Although every visitor pays a local tax, they are clearly not spending the money on infrastructure.
Review 54:This little gem is a perfect place to get away from it all. Great family running the hotel, lovely breakfasts and the gorgeous countryside - and near enough to Siena if you want a day to delve into the past.
Review 55:I loved it all, but have to admit the long driveway requires some intrepid negotiation for foreign drivers.
Review 56:The setting is spectacular, and the atmosphere very pleasant. Dining is an epicurean delight, and the facilities accommodate various activities, physical, relaxing or intellectual, but do not expect disco.
Review 57:There was mosquitos, but it was ok with the electrical anti mosquito equipment in the room.
Review 58:The breakfast was served personally very nice and toscany food. We have also very good local food prepared from hotel mother....
Review 59:- spacious barhroom. However outdated - no wifi in room
Review 60:- wondefull location - spacious room - friendly staff: organized a nice wine tasting at a nearby winery - two nice swimmming pools
Review 61:Quiet, peaceful and very beautiful place to stay. You can easily spend your time in the facility and also wonder around easily. The staff was very nice and helpful. Definitely will visit again.
Review 62:The hotel is ideally located for visiting many places in Chianti. The food at the hotel restaurant was excellent and staff service very good. The hotel was clean and has a real Tuscan feel about it. The pool area was also very relaxing. We have a very enjoyable stay and would recommend it to others.
Review 63:Nothing.

Review 115:The peace and quiet and the central location to all in the Chianti Classico region. It was also nice at the end of the day to have a restaurant on site to relax and then walk to our room. A beautiful serene setting to just be after a long day of touring the area. Will be back.
