Reviews for My Village
Review 1:Absolutely nothing
Review 2:The BEST place in Tissa!! Amazing house, amazing food (the chicken noodles were the best dinner we had in Sri Lanka!), perfect base to visit Tissa/Yala. The staff arranged a visit at the Yala national park and got us the best driver ever, so knowledgeable!
Review 3:We enjoyed our stay very much. This remote place is perfect for doing a Yala National Park Safari and also great for an evening trip to Kataragama (our highlight of the trip). The friendly manager is organizing everything for you. You can easily walk around in the neighborhood and go to the lake. The food is amazing and the rooms are very comfortable, clean and spacious. We can definately recommend this calm, remote place for a stop!
Review 4:Really beautiful boutique hotel with a pretty garden - staff were very welcoming and helpful. Also helped to arrange a safari and taxis Enjoyed a fine Sri Lankan dinner too
Review 5:The location is a little out of the way from the town, although they provide free bike rental which makes getting around a breeze.
Review 6:The staff and service were excellent. This is a little oasis in a serene location away from any traffic noise. Gorgeous garden.
Review 7:No top sheet on the bed so got a little chilly at night, but we asked our second night and they were happy to provide. Bathroom smelled a little funky, but i think this was coming from the drains, as the bathroom was spotless.
Review 8:Staff very helpful, organised a safari at Yala for us (maybe no the cheapest but very good guide and well worth it for the convenience). Room was spacious, clean and tidy. Had curry and rice for dinner which was delicious and very generous. Bikes on offer if you feel like exploring the town. All in all good value for money.
Review 9:A bit far from town.
Review 10:Beautifully designed and maintained property just steps from the lake. Huge room, immaculate and spacious public areas, great staff.
Review 11:Everyone will tell you the the place is tastefully decorated with great care and earthy charm. My room was great and so were the communal areas. I found the place to be also very professional, honest, and dedicated to the guests. Would highly recommend it.
Review 12:We had to order our meals some time before as they were very busy but they were worth the wait. A pool would make it perfect.
Review 13:This was our favourite hotel in Sri Lanka. We loved the spacious rooms with plenty of shelving and lovely outdoor veranda seating and garden with lots of birds. The staff were friendly and helpful and we ate there in the evenings, loving the many dishes that came with our chosen curries. They organised the safari for us and the driver to go to the beaches. It is a 10 minute walk to the main part of the lake to see the sunsets and 30 minutes to the main shops.
Review 14:Some rooms have no windows, and some have a hot water only from solar panels.
Review 15:Very friendly staff, nice coutryard, the best food I've eaten in Sri Lanka!
Review 16:Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Review 17:Extremely beautiful guesthouse with 7 rooms and a small tropical garden where you can eat and relax in hammocks. I stayed in a room upstairs, huge and high with a very, very tasteful design even in details. Well, after all the lovely, helpful. reliable and charming owner is an interior architect... Let me add that you should book the safaris (I did Bundula and Yala) with him. Not only cheaper than at the street corner, but also with a very good driver and guide who knew how to meet our expectations perfectly. That is really important if you don't want to get stuck in the Jeep crowds especially in Yala. And the owner also tells you on which days not to go... A perfect stay, and I am not exaggerating!
Review 18:Really well designed hotel, with clean rooms, air con and a great position near the lake. Staff really helpful and amazing food. Make sure you have rice and curry here. They can organise Yala Safari too.
Review 19:good location, close to Tissa lake, room is big, there is hot bath water, I liked the courtyard. Food is good, the noodle was the best what I had in Sri Lanka.
Review 20:Only complaint was no window in our room but it did not detract from our stay.
Review 21:Very friendly manager who could not do enough for us. The food was good. It was very peaceful with a short walk to the lake which was beautiful.
Review 22:Take dinner outside.
Review 23:Clean, spacious and comfortable room. No mosquitos inside the room. Staff helpful and informative. Lots of hot water. Arrange trip to Yala National Park with the same charge (4500 Rupees) like the travel agents in town. If there is 6 persons (unkonwon to each other), the charge can be lowered to 4000 rupees. Allow checkout after the Yala trip so that you can take a wash. Outstanding packed breakfast. Good scenery in the nearby Lake Tank.
Review 24:I stayed at My Village for only 1 night. The staff were welcoming and the room was spacious and clean. The whole building is in very good style by the owner. I really liked it and wished to stay for longer. The staff was also organised about preparing packed breakfast for the guests who were leaving at 5am for morning safari trip, they let us stay in the room for shower etc after the safari which was nice. I highly recommend My Village to anyone visiting Tissa.
Review 25:De only missed mosquito nets, however, not a must here.
Review 26:Very nice facilities, beautiful garden. Very big and clean room, 100% confortable. There is a lake within walking distante with an amazing sunset to watch.
Review 27:Except for the manager the staff speaks very little English, which can make it a little hard to communicate.
Review 28:The atmosphere of that place! The hotel is beautifully designed, the rooms are spacious and super clean. The food is just amazing! They also organized a great Safari for us and made us huge breakfast boxes to take with us.
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:I have to say that this is the place we strongly recommend. We changed our plan in the last minute waiting for Yala national park's reopen after one month closure. So we had to extend one day stay and wanted to visit some other national park. The staff was super helpful with his recommendation and we enjoyed a lot. We caught the cold before arrival and got free black tea from guesthouse without any charges. We are so impressed by the hospitality.
Review 31:The place has no atmosphere. It lacks an owner that is present and looks after guests. The lads that walk around do their jobs but don't really care about anything. This is more a hotel, not a guesthouse. There is no wifi, because they don't have a terrestrial connection so they try a mobile connection which does not work.
Review 32:There was confusion on arrival as somehow my booking did not seem to have got there. The manager was not around then and the others could not really cope due to poor grasp of English, when I said I had booked a different type of room. The room I ended up in did not have a window, but was large and comfortable. The breaks on the bikes for exploring the town did not work well. No mosquito nets, although bizarrely directly next to lake almost no mosquitos.
Review 33:Very helpful, and friendly staff. The manager was excellent, knowledgeable and had good English. The atmosphere of the public spaces is great, very relaxing. Safari which he organised was great value, and in a new, comfortable jeep. Highly recommended. He also helped with onward travel arrangements. Great bathroom and shower. I would stay here again if I come back to Tissa.
Review 34:The room was a little dark with shutters on the window blocking the western sun but room lighting was not good enough to compensate. Some bedside lights would help.
Review 35:The food served by Sujith was divine and the caring manager Justin was exceptional at helping everyone organise their stay in Tissa.
Review 36:One of the best - if not the best - accomodations we had in Sri Lanka. Clean and calm 7(?)-rooms-hotel with modern interior and thoughtful architecture. Bikes are rent-free so you can have a nice ride to the sea nearby or to the town. It's also a perfect starting point for a Yala NP trip - the staff will help you to organize a jeep & driver. All in all highly recommendable.
Review 37:The design was fantastic. Very tranquil and each room different. The staff were wonderful and always smiling. The food was also fantastic so do try it. The owner organised out safari tour at a good cost and provided us with a packed breakfast to take with us! Could not recommend enough!
Review 38:The lack of A pool and it would have been perfect
Review 39:The place itself is fabulous, very clean and relaxing atmosphere, the stuff is super nice and professional
Review 40:The walk back to it from Tissa town. Although Tissa town and lake is not worth it!!
Review 41:The food was amazing. You must have your meals here, especially curry and rice!! Service and friendliness of staff was excellent. They sorted taxis for us for very cheap price and even offered breakfast before 5 am Safari
Review 42:Water to the room was cut-off some time in the night, but was restored when staff were informed in the morning.
Review 43:Lush and inviting common areas and well-appointed rooms.
Review 44:No working wifi
Review 45:The hotel has a very nice shape. It's modern and it looks very cool. You really have the feeling of being in Africa. It has nice colors. We really liked it a lot. The rooms are absolutely fabulous. We had a room on the first floor. Bathroom is lovely. Such a nice shower! In the evening we ordered Tuna. We've to admit. After 1 week rice and curry, the dinner was the best we had during our holiday in Sri Lanka. The manager gave us a perfect price for a safari. We compared 3 prices and he gave us the best price. In the morning we received a nice breakfast-packet. You can also use free bikes. Definitly a very good hotel! Correct price!
Review 46:Loved it! Beautifully new upstairs double room, with western bathroom and A/C. Well designed, except not much light in the room, but it was fine to sit in the relaxing green and clean courtyard. Sujith is fantastic, always helpful and able to cook dinner which was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend, I would come back with the rest of the family!
Review 47:the wi-fi was intermittent due to the rain
Review 48:The beautiful building. The great courtyard. Justin the manager - the most helpful man in Sri Lanka. The monkeys visiting. All the birds and the goanna. The food was spectacular
Review 49:No complaints at all.
Review 50:We found the room spacious, well appointed and very comfortable, Justin attended to our needs perfectly and the food was exceptional
Review 51:Great staff, great food and perfect for Yalla park tour
Review 52:No hot water. Trotted out the usual excuses about everyone else having used it first.
Review 53:Truly outstanding architecture.
Review 54:Cozy and clean environment with its own character. Yala tour is good. Close to Tissa Lake and can see sunset there. Free rental of bike is also good.
Review 55:Amazing design of the house; generous dinner portions; breakfast to-go for early starters to the national park; spacious rooms
