Reviews for Happy Valley Retreat & Brewery

Review 1:Peaceful and serene location. Wake up to the kookaburras; watch the kangaroos at dusk; feed the ducks as you sit having your complementary continental breakfast in the courtyard. Check out the brewery and make sure you get the sample paddle. Head chef Mick produced a magnificent evening meal - Baked Local Flat Mushroom were yummy and crispy skin duck and crispy skin chicken were exceptional. Would definitely stay again.

Review 2:Kitchen facilities are cramped and inadequate. Lighting is too dim to read by.

Review 3:The property is beautiful - wildlife abundant. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 4:I did think the cost was a bit expensive for an overnight stay. The lighting inside the cabin wasn't good.

Review 5:We attended a party in the function room and stayed overnight. The food and service, both at the party and breakfast in the morning, were great. We were aware the accommodation would be a bit rustic and we enjoyed that Australian bush feel. There was plenty of room in our cabin for two people.

Review 6:It was friendly, helpful, clean and great value for money. We would have spent more time there if we could and so plan on going there again!! Breakfast was beaut.... so fresh and yum!!

Review 7:It would have been good to have a sink/cooking facilities but it really wasn't an issue when only staying 2 nights.

Review 8:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Nothing too much trouble.

Review 9:A great host Dee made us feel most welcome, a tranquil setting and we loved the little touches like the breakfast basket with home baked bread fresh from the oven. The restaurant also served great food and we enjoyed tasting the beers from the brewery.

Review 10:We were a family of 5 so a bit squeezey when eating in with no table but didn't really worry us as great weather so didn't need to be inside in cabin.

Review 11:The Staff , the location and the grounds were first rate, restaurant was great as well. So much to do around stanthorpe and kids loved feeding ducks and boules and plenty of room for a footy game.

Review 12:The softness of the bed was the only thing we found hard to adjust to.

Review 13:Location is great, the place was extremly clean and well looked after, staff was very helpful and kind, food and beer were most enjoyable. We will be recommending the place to our friends and family.

Review 14:No bad experience. Delightful stay.

Review 15:It was in such a peaceful relaxing setting. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful. Our 16 yr. old grandson thought that it was "pretty awesome"!

Review 16:We loved the rustic charm, it was exactly what we were looking for - a country holiday. We stayed two nights and ate both nights at Happy Valley - the food was amazing both nights as was the cooked breakfast and the friendliness of all the staff!

Review 17:Great location - nearby pond - bush - kangaroos and a lovely small vineyard for an afternoon drink amongst the vines! Its a quick drive to Stanthorpe and the Giraween National Park and wineries.

Review 18:Our only small criticism is that the bathroom lacked any form of ventilation.

Review 19:The managers and staff were wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the onsite restaurant. The grounds had spots to relax in and there was a lot of bird-life (parrots & ducks) but around the cabins was still nice and quiet. The log fire kept us very cosy.

Review 20:Quite expensive for very average facilities, dark room and ridges in the bed. A washing up tub for the kitchenette? We're supposed to be out of the dark ages.

Review 21:Quiet bush location with impromptu kookaburra visit.

Review 22:Not their fault but phone reception was non existing.

Review 23:Dee & Geoff were very helpful and friendly and all the staff were very good. Food was great, so were the craft beers. The peace and quiet and being able to sit around and just listen to nature.

Review 24:Would like to have the option of self catering in the cabins. Even the addition of a microwave would be a welcome addition However the daily freshly baked bread almost made self catering superfluous.

Review 25:Staff were helpful and welcoming. No request appeared too difficult and every fort made to accommodate our wishes, and all with a smile.

Review 26:This was a fantastic break for us! The meal was great , the cabins were very cosy. We would recommend this facility to anyone who wants a few quiet days away from it all.

Review 27:In view of self catering we think that the cabins would benefit from having a microwave.

Review 28:The location was very peaceful and relaxing, we would recommend this property .

Review 29:Rooms could have had a small table and chairs inside rooms for the breakfast provided.

Review 30:Great location and very pretty Staff were good. Pork Belly meal excellent

Review 31:Poor mobile reception, no wi-fi in rooms

Review 32:Staff and managers were terrific. Food was the best we had in Stanthorpe, should have eaten there every night. Beer was great.

Review 33:wood fire only warmed loungeroom. The bedroom was freezing and one side of electric blanket did not work. Only a Queen size bed that looked to be 10 years old. Lino in the bathroom and swollen vanity. OLD bar fridge which was noisey all night. All this on one of the coldest nights of the year where temp got down to 1C Cabins need a interior redesign and brought up to current fashions and styling and a KING SIZED BED ...if your paying over $220 for a cabin for a couple then it should have a king sized bed not a old tired queen size

Review 34:the fireplace was good as was the dinner onsite that night but expensive

Review 35:Minor matter - A microwave would be useful

Review 36:Very friendly and helpful hospitality . Beautiful home made bread , jam and fabulous beer from on site brewery. Relaxed on site restaurant with a nice broad menu. Quiet and serene rustic country accommodation with stocked fire place only minutes from stanthorpe by car . It's not a 5 star resort but is A really nice well priced country base for granite belt exploration. We loved it.

Review 37:Nothing, all great.

Review 38:The cottage was warm and cosy with the fireplace, very quite and peaceful. We loved the Brewery Tasting experience. The meal and beer was worth the experience. Host and staff very warm. We will return to Happy Valley.

Review 39:Service in restaurant was only average. Main courses were not hot enough. One dish was served well before the other, and the side then separately again. The seafood chowder was therefore almost cold before starting. The lighting on the entrance road could be better.

Review 40:Cabin was very well insulated and comfortable.

Review 41:No microwave or DVD player in room as advertised, had to collect from office. Thought the meals were a bit pricey and no breakfast only conteninenal.

Review 42:Unit was excellent , but not as advertised.

Review 43:Lovely people, fantastic grounds and good location. The breakfast basket and Sunday breakfast buffet are a lovely touch, could not recommend highly enough!

Review 44:Finding it was a little difficult, trusty Google maps took us on a roundabout trip, it is closer to town than you think

Review 45:The setting was just beautiful, the owners were lovely, the restaurant was absolutely delicious, the wood fire was a lovely warm welcome, the scenery was tranquil

Review 46:Very minor but car park light shone all night into room.. simple fix using bed throw !

Review 47:Peace n quiet... great setting. .. really good fireplace and wood supply.. Great restaurant and craft beers and local food ingredients fantastic staff ☺

Review 48:Not so much a bad experience but the breakfast basket should have more choices as not everyone likes muslie.

Review 49:The cabin was first class and big enough to spread out. The ensuite was very good and endless hot water. The woodburner was excellent and warmed the cabin sufficiently.

Review 50:Not really a big problem but quite hard to clean plates properly in the cabin. They do give you a washing up bowl but you still need to rinse things off under the bathroom sink taps.

Review 51:Good location for us as we wanted some peace and quiet away from it all.Still within a few minutes drive for the town centre though. Restaurant had great food but a limited menu so you would expect them to be good at what they do cook. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very spacious cabin with with a wood burner to keep it toasty in winter.

Review 52:The only negative was that our cabin door didn't lock. Probably just one faulty door though.

Review 53:The staff, the cabins, the location (in relation to Stanthorpe, and just the lovely grounds of the retreat), the food (lots of local produce).

Review 54:The staff were not that enthusiastic, seemed depressed.

Review 55:Loved the cabin, the surrounding bush and the restaurant's breakfast buffet. The beer tour was interesting too!

Review 56:The kitchenette area to small with the toaster and jug under shelves as well as washing up in bathroom or plastic dish.

Review 57:The staff and service was excellent. Would recommend it too friends.

Review 58:Had our drink order mixed up a little and had to wait some time due to reduced staff to be served at different times..

Review 59:Food was good quality. Cabin was modern and comfortable. privacy was excellent. Beer was enjoyable and staff friendly.

Review 60:We very much enjoyed the food, from the lovely breakfast hamper to the restaurant evening meals. My partner loved the brewery and craft beers on offer. Fantastic service from Geoff and Marisa too, we hope to return.

Review 61:No kitchen facilities - no sink or microwave. This didn't worry us as we were only staying for two nights and had dinner at the restaurant both nights.

Review 62:Comfortable, private and very clean.

Review 63:The staff in the restaurant all offered to serve you then deferred you to another member of staff. It was rather bizarre and inefficient. The food was okay, but the portion sizes were huge and the meat overcooked.

Review 64:Lovely surroundings with the lake etc

Review 65:Design of cabin, in that bedroom was far to big & living area & bathroom too small. The cabin was designed for 2 adults, but teapot & cafetiere only designed for one

Review 66:good location, with good restaurant and great own beer.

Review 67:The bed was not as comfortable as I had hoped for, we are both tall people and found it a bit of a squeeze.

Review 68:The staff were wonderful, nice that they took the time to have a chat

Review 69:Rooms are a little dated, but that added to the charm. Would definitely stay again.

Review 70:Nice quiet and peaceful location. 5 min drive in to town. Staff were very friendly. Sunday morning breakfast was great!

Review 71:We had a fabulous stay at Happy Valley, the staff were very helpful and attentive. The chef was absolutely fantastic, we stayed for 3 nights and found the food so good we ate in the restaurant every night.

Review 72:Breakfast supplied was poor. Accomodation does not have A/c so very uncOmfortable on a muggy, warm day. Restaurant not operating on NYE and New Years Day. We visited Wineries in the area and wine tasting was free but the beer tasting at the Craft Beer Brewery at Happy Valley had to be paid for.

Review 73:Accomodation looks great. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 74:Didn't like having the previous resident washing the dishes for the next. Ours were not clean and it just felt icky not having them done by the cleaner, we had to wash them all before use. The only downfall.

Review 75:Location was so nice, each cabin is stand only with lots of space between them. Set into the bush, beautiful. Yet so close to town and all that the area has to offer. Beer was great and the food in their resturant is AMAZING! Staff were so lovely too.

Review 76:The breakfast in a basket. For the price, proper service of breakfast with the option of a hot meal, and someone to serve tea and coffee, could be expected. Instead we were handed a basket of 'goodies' when we checked in with cereal and bread - there's a toaster in the room - not good enough.

Review 77:Beautiful peaceful location - would have loved to spend a few days there. Evenings meals are good. Staff are friendly. Girraween NP is definitely worth a visit.

Review 78:The single bed in our cabin was hard. A new mattress may be in order, but the queen bed was comfy. All else was good, so thanks very much for a comfortable stay

Review 79:We loved the individual cabins & the privacy as they were separated by bush. We loved the wood fire, even though it wasn't absolutely essential to light it up! We also loved the stars at night and enjoyed the wildlife. The staff were lovely and very helpful.

Review 80:The shower was mouldy, there were no kitchen facilities, which makes it difficult for a family and all 5 beds were in the same room with not enough seating in the lounge area for everyone

Review 81:The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 82:Happy Valley Retreat is in a great location. The bush setting provides the perfect backdrop. The chalets are really well appointed & very comfortable. Loved being able to have the fire going.

Review 83:We're expected to wash dishes but without appropriate facilities. No exhaust fan in bathroom,a heater or lamps would be appreciated in the winter also. Further into town than first thought and not the best of roads if traveling at night. good thing the restaurant was handy!

Review 84:Staff we met were great. Bar area cosy, restaurant food very good. Cabin was comfy enough and we enjoyed the fireplace.peaceful location though some of the trees were a bit close for comfort . Breakfast provisions a nice touch, would have loved some porridge sachets. Would be a good venue for a group of friends.

Review 85:The cabin with a fireplace, location, tranquility, staff, services and food are just superb. Highly recommend for a couple who want to escape daily city life. Winery tour is a must. Lunch at a college exceed expectation.

Review 86:Finding a dirty bowl on shelf in kitchen. But that is all.

Review 87:Setting is brilliant. Restaurant fantastic and very atmospheric. Owners are warm, welcoming and friendly. Cabins are ideal

Review 88:The staff in the restaurant were friendly and efficient. The meal we had was good but, for a food hall atmosphere, over priced.

Review 89:Great location. We walked the state forest across the road, Had a lovely couple of beers, snuggled next to the fire, gazed at the stars, woke to frost and wandered around the dam and said hello to the ducks. A very pleasant stay!.

Review 90:We booked a room with a microwave. On arrival there wasn't one. We asked at reception and within the hour a lovely microwave was in our fabulous cabin. The fireplace was awesome! Would definately stay again!!

Review 91:We thoroughly enjoyed Happy Valley Retreat. Apart from its peaceful location, the retreat is a friendly and well managed place where guests are made to feel welcomed.

Review 92:-not having a sink outside the bathroom to wash dishes in (there is tub a provided instead) and no table to eat breakfast at inside

Review 93:-quiet bush surrounds -close to Stanthorpe -log fire -friendly, helpful staff

Review 94:Lighting although mood inspiring was hard to read by.The couch was not very comfortable.

Review 95:Could sit comfortably out side look at the view enjoy the wildlife enjoy a paddle of beer play a game of boules. Inside enjoy the fire eat the complimentary breakfast and sample the included plunger local coffee. The restaurant was of a high quality which is not always found attached to your accommodation. The queen sized bed was extremely comfortable.

Review 96:Our cabin lighting was very sparse not sure if this was purposely so to create ambience. Cleanliness could be improved... Dead ants in tea pot, and the odd spiders web. These were the only minor dislikes, they would not impact on us returning.

Review 97:The location was fantastic, cabin very cosy especially with the log fire. It was well equipped. Included in the price was a continental breakfast. This was appreciated as we could make it at our leisure on a cold frosty morning. We had dinner at restaurant, enjoyable meal and great service. Beer sampling paddle was great.

Review 98:We couldn't get the fire to start at all. So we just used the heater thank goodness that was there.

Review 99:The scenery, how quiet it is, the food was beautiful. The beer was pretty good too. Will certainly come back & recommend it to friends

Review 100:Facilities are looking very worn.

Review 101:Friendly helpful staff member
