Reviews for Salvadonica
Review 1:We could not use the pool since the weather had cooled down and the pool was not heated.
Review 2:Everything. It was just perfect and a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Review 3:At the reception, they talked bad about us in Italian since day one. Also, they somehow advised us to not use booking anymore, but book on site because they implied that this way we could benefit of special prices (however they did not offer us discounted prices for the room even when we paid extra 60 euros for a superior room). The top of this unfortunate event was that the WIFI signal was very weak, almost non existent, in this room. We reported the problem 2 times but they never fixed it. They always found a way to look away when we passed by them. We tried to not let this affect our staying there since we had bigger plans (to be happy and make babies :P) than to continue arguing with the receptionists, but it still left a shadow on our staying there. So many expectations about this place were broken, we even had to pay extra 6 euros for the slippers.... and they did not provide bath robes; I was affraid to go ask how much these would cost.... It was our first time in Italy and our 6 days of "honeymoon" and it should have been the prefect location for us, but I guess we were wrong... We cannot advise you not go here since the area is amazing and the food is divine, BUT if you need Internet, do not book the room 35. Also make sure you know at least a bit of Italian so that you are always prepared.. ;)
Review 4:We loved the location, the room, the sights and the food at their restaurant "La Volpenera". Also, the staff at this restaurant is super friendly and it was a delight to eat there everytime. Their Chef is a magician!!! On our last dinner at their restaurant the cheff even offered us a special strawberry drink to complement our love story. This was like a ray of light on a dim vacation at Salvadonica.
Review 5:This was the highlight of our 5 week holiday in Italy. Everything we expected Tuscany to be and better. Professional & friendly staff and the food and wine amazing. Very relaxing.
Review 6:Everything was perfect. Just ask not to be at room number 1. We were there and it is too near the restaurant (it may get a little bit noisy). Nevertheless, that didnt represented a problem at all.
Review 7:Incredible place with amazing landscapes (pictures CANT show how it really is), perfectly located between Florence and Siena. Excellent services (tasteful breakfast, great restaurant with local food and wine), very gentle staff,... We would love to go there again as soon as possible.
Review 8:We loved the authentic restored buildings and the beautiful setting in the landscape. Also the quietness of the place, the good breakfast and the friendly staff (especially the people of the reception and the breakfast staff) It was very nice, after a trip, to sit down at the comfort corner with a coffee or thee and some homemade cake. Thank you for our nice stay!
Review 9:The property is great, food is awesome, the scenery is out of this world and the staff is just amazing. They also make very good Chianti wine. The staff helped us book a car and gave us tips for where we should stop during a one day tour we did in the countryside.
Review 10:Rooms a little dark- but they are rural buildings so fit into the landscape-setting very well.
Review 11:Loved the rural location and views. Kids enjoyed open space and tennis... Breakfast was very good with choice and superb views
Review 12:No negatives.
Review 13:The most enjoyable stay in Italy. In the Chianti region surrounded by vinyards and olive groves. The scenery is breath taking. They do wine and olive oil tasting and cooking lessons. The restaurant food is beautiful, staff are wonderful and breakfast is delicious. The local village has a food and clothing market every Monday. The best accommodation. It was sad to leave, I highly recommend it.
Review 14:Very quiet after 10:00 or so. No after hours gathering spot on property for late night fun.
Review 15:Simple, peaceful, beautiful views. Great location for "day trips" to Florence , Sienna etc. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Helpful with directions/advice with day trip locations.
Review 16:No bath. Literally the only gripe
Review 17:Incredible views. Staff all amazing. Beautiful spot with lovely food and wine. Amazing property and extremely well kept. Looked almost like a brand new farm conversion. Great mix of modern and contemporary. Quiet. Comfortable beds.
Review 18:Beautiful setting with lovely restaurant and pool. Fillipo gave us great tips on where to explore. The staff were very helpful but a special mention to the amazing Gloria who went the extra mile and more.
Review 19:Staff were excellent an location is more beautiful then the photos. Breakfast was amazing. Best of the trip and eaten overlooking the Tuscan country side. Perfecto.
Review 20:A/C not working during our stay, although our room was extremely hot (25 degrees Celsius). Excuse was that central heatin was on, but they should not advertise their rooms have A/C if that's the case. Also, reserved 2 months in advance and paid 50% more than a booking available 3 days before my arrival.
Review 21:Beautiful views, very good facilities and relatively close to Firenze and small Tuscan cities in the region, though you need a car to move around. Good breakfast as well, served only from 8-10am
Review 22:Not really a negative but a bit far from hill towns especially Siena and Orvieto (but close to Florence). Just know in what ways their location either helps or hinders your plans.
Review 23:Breakfast, staff helpfulness, their wines, pool, outdoor dining area,
Review 24:Coffee wasn't the best compared to others we've had in Italy and a little over-priced in comparison to other places we have stayed.
Review 25:Nice room and lovely views. Staff were helpful and meals in the restaurant were delicious. Breakfast was nice with a good variety. Good location if you have a hire car as easy drive to Siena, Volterra and Florence.
Review 26:Our flight was late evening and there was no availability for late check out and no facilities for showers after spending the day at the pool.
Review 27:The staff at Salvadonica were friendly and always helpful. Always serving excellent food and wine. Rooms were comfy and clean.
Review 28:Everything about this property it is just great! Beautiful vineyards and olive tree fields, the views are stunning! We booked a wine tasting the night we arrived, Emanuela was so nice and friendly plus we met other couples on their honeymoon there too...the experience was wonderful! We had a romantic dinner under the Tuscan sun (set) and we managed to get the same table next morning for breakfast - wish we could have stayed longer...would LOVE to go back :-)
Review 29:We supposed that hotel to be not so full and crowed (reception lady told it was about 70-80pax that day) Cold and not very clean pool We learned that there were vine degustation just before checking out -no information about it before
Review 30:Good location Very nice (clean, new renovated, stylish) outdoor - pool, territory, view English speaking reception Good restaurant
Review 31:No bad experience. Wish we had at least one English speaking channel though to watch when it was raining or in the evening when unwinding.
Review 32:The service was great. The food amazing. You can stay there without even leaving the property.
Review 33:No bad experiences but air conditioning was not quite adequate to fully cool room off at night during heat spell (won't go below 19 C which didn't seem adequate for the heat). Taking 1/2 board is a mixed blessing - lovely to stay put for night and dine in such a beautiful setting; good value for cost BUT menu is limited especially entrees (secundi). Most importantly the food is certainly fine but not great. Simple dishes were the best ones. We would love to see them improve the quality of the food to match the rest of the hotel's offerings - otherwise experience was essentially perfect.
Review 34:location is breathtaking as is the site of the pool and dining areas - some rooms also have great views. Staff is young friendly and extremely helpful. Shanta at the coffee machine in the morning is a delight as are many of the others - Gloria, Emanuella, Rebecca, Michael and Matheo as well as lara (and others in reception). Much successful thought has gone into making the stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast is generous and high quality.
Review 35:Salvadonica exceeded our expectations. It is in a lovely quiet setting with wonderful views & sunsets. The staff were friendly & professional. The room was charming & the bed comfortable. The pool is set in an area on its own overlooking the valley. The breakfasts were excellent & we enjoyed the ambiance & quality of the evening meals. We even managed a game of tennis before breakfast. Children & dogs are welcomed. It's a great base for exploring Tuscany. Very happy to stay again.
Review 36:Staffs arrogant attitude, this place has no charm, and we were not made to feel welcome, we booked a suite for 2 adults and 2 teenagers and were given a room where we were expected to sleep on a double camp bed!! when we complained they gave us two single beds and two camp beds for the children which were extremely uncomfortable and very small. They gave us no other option even though we had booked the family suite one large double bed and two single beds. When we checked out they did finally apologise and said that our suite had been given to another family….i would not recommend this place to anyone the food was the worst we had on our entire trip very expensive and you don't get what is described on the menu…and breakfast was an unorganised free for all of poor quality. There is an amazing little restaurant just down the road which was a totally amazing experience and really great value, food obviously cooked by someone who knows about food!!
Review 37:The views are lovely
Review 38:Room 5 - Air-conditioning (or water running) made noise most of night which kept us awake. Advised staff but this was still not fixed by time we left.
Review 39:Beautiful Tuscan Wine/Olive Oil oasis. Absolutely loved our 5 day stay at Salvadonica, On arrival we received an upgrade to lovey Superior Room with private courtyard. Rooms & bathrooms were large, & very clean, staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic, we ate at Restaurant most nights, food was very nice, I think we had everything on menu. Salvadonica was a great base for our day trips to Siena, Florence, Lucca, & Chianti. Loved, loved, loved this place.
Review 40:Unfortunately too many children this time and no longer the peaceful oasis that it was 2 years ago. It is however the most amazing place and worth a visit.
Review 41:Amazing location, nice pool
Review 42:Pool was a little small for the number of people on the property, and the cloudy water was somewhat off putting.
Review 43:Magnificent views across beautiful Tuscan countryside.
Review 44:Leaving
Review 45:Beautiful villa amid gorgeous Tuscan hills; Restaurant La Volpenera was wonderful -- still dream of the mozzarella and wine; Wait staff was delightful -- Emanuela made sure our meals were all wonderful. Alessandra was terrific in making special arranagements for a birthday -- WE LOVE SALVADONICA
Review 46:You can't choose your fellow guests. Some were playing music at the pool, slightly disturbing the otherwise very nice ambiance.
Review 47:Nice location, good overall atmosphere.
Review 48:This wonderful place gives you a sense of serenity. The surroundings are beautiful. We loved it so much that we stayed an extra night. I would love to come back to this lovely place! Thank you so much for everything!
Review 49:I didn't like having an automatic service charge on my bill from the restaurant.
Review 50:The views from our room and pool were breathtaking. All the staff were extremely polite and so very helpful. would defiantly return!!
Review 51:This was one of our favorite places to stay, with a fantastic combination of location, scenery, on-site restaurant, pool, playground, and wine and olive oil produced on site. You could make easy day trips from here, or just stay at the pool all day. We met great people and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 52:Staff were not as polite as they should. I was treated suspiciously when asked for an adaptor for their "Italian only" plugs. The restaurant staff most of the time were fighting between them, looked terribly understaffed. 2 out of 3 times I was not able to get a table outside even though there is clearly not an issue with space, just didnt have enough tables. Food was average contrary to the reviews I have seen here.
Review 53:Great location and views! The buildings of the hotel also looked great.
Review 54:If you are looking for serenity and relaxation - look no further! You are spoilt for choice with beautiful views, comfy rooms and tasty food, what more could you wish for!
Review 55:Would like to see the breakfast extended to 10:30.
Review 56:The location and view were great. Restaurant was also great, good food, great sunsets. Cooking class and wine tasting was fabulous.
Review 57:Beautiful place. The grounds and the view are wonderful, the staff helpful and pleasant, and the accommodations outstanding. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and the food is very good.
Review 58:Nothing!
Review 59:This was a wonderfully restored working farm. I loved the restoration, the view, the staff, and the food. The staff was wonderfully helpful in assisting us in solidifying other arrangements for our touring. The views were stunning and the Inn's design was so comfortable yet visually stimulating in a way that said Relax!
Review 60:Restaurant was severely understaffed. Most of the food was great, but prosecco was served lukewarm. It seemed like the staff was far too busy to take care of everything. This is IMO a management problem. The waitresses were lovely and kind.
Review 61:Amazingly beautiful place.
Review 62:Poor WiFi signal in some areas of the hotel. The restaurant room staff were very good but had too much to do. The prices we paid for meals justified hiring more people. I didn't particularly mind the wait, but it was tough on the employees.
Review 63:The landscape. How well presented all the buildings were. The view from the restaurant. And Rudy, the hotel dog.
Review 64:The hotel exceeded my expectations. The hotel is on a vineyard. From every location (restaurant, pool), you are surrounded by beautiful rolling hills/vineyards. Absolutely breathtaking. The rooms were large, clean and very appealing. The restaurant prepared wonderful food. The breakfast buffet had a wonderful selection, and the dinners were superb. I will definitely go back there if I return to Italy!
Review 65:Nothing no complaints
Review 66:The beautiful views the lovely authentic accomodation the service and food and our grandchildren didn't want to leave they thoroughly enjoyed the pool and playing with Rudi the jack Russell who resides there all I can say is lucky Rudi.
Review 67:None to quibble but perhaps mosquito netting blinds would be better than having the airconditoner running.
Review 68:Although not our first time to Tuscany, we try and select a location that gives us the opportunity to travel around the area. The restaurant service is exceptional food served and attentiveness of the staff, with a a special mention to Emmanuela, who was a perfect host.
Review 69:There is more space around the resturant that could be used to provide a little more pricacy during breakfast and dinner as tables are quite close to each other.
Review 70:The views from the restaurant are spectacular. The natural space around the hotel property. The surrounding area where one can make daytrips to.
Review 71:Nothing
Review 72:We have been travelling round italy for a couple of weeks, staying a few nights at different places and Salvadonica has been our best experience so far. It's a shame we couldn't stay longer than 3 nights! We loved it here - it's in a picturesque location, the staff are very helpful, the onsite restaurant serves very nice food and they have the cutest dog, Rudy, to entertain you. We'll definitely stay here again on our next trip to Tuscany. I notice some other reviewers had mentioned the breakfast not being great - we did not have this experience. There was a lot of choice for breakfast and everything was lovely. Definitely one of the best breakfasts on our travels.
Review 73:What can i say? We booked this hotel for the majority of our wedding guests as we were marrying in the nearby castle. I would say the Salvadonica went above & beyond to take care of us all & by far one of the prettiest hotels i have ever been to. The views of the Tuscan countryside are superb and the rooms are perfect. The food is incredible and the staff are very helpful. In particular we found Manuela in the restaurant so adorable & lovely. We will definitely be returning maybe for our one year anniversary ;) Fantastic memories made at the Salvadonica somewhere we will always treasure! A real gem!
Review 74:Everything from the moment we were greeted until the moment we left was exceptional.
Review 75:Everything! The junior suite room was extremely spacious, well appointed, exceptionally clean, and had the most fabulous view of the rolling hills of Tuscany. We are a well traveled couple, and cannot rave enough about this place. Made our time in Tuscany a dream come true.
Review 76:Just wow... The photos on the website do not do this place justice! Everything was amazing, the views, the beds, the pool, we loved it all! Thank you to the staff and owners for making our week an unforgettable experience. We miss Rudy already!
Review 77:There was nothing not to like.
Review 78:The property is situated in the Italian countryside with spectacular views all around of olive groves and vineyards. Quiet to the point of the only noise you could hear were the birds and the occasional traffic on the local road. The property was situated well away from the road. Friendliness of ALL of the staff and being able to completely relax.
Review 79:On the weekends there are more families thre and are quite loud.. Especially in the afternoons when you're ready for a nap or to start relaxing with a glass of chianti.. But this was a minor issue and lasted just the weekend. Also, we wished they had a better gym because they feel you SO WELL there!! Other then that, everything was BEYOND perfect!!
Review 80:Everything!!!! The staff and room and location were top notch!!! Everyone was so lovely and sweet and accommodating and warm!
Review 81:Not one thing!!
Review 82:We liked EVERYTHING!! The setting, the food, the room overlooking the dining room, wandering the setting, playing a little bit of golf (a HUGE hit with my SO!), the service, our wine-tasting class, the service in the dining room, RUDY!!, the pool, the views, the buzzing bees pollinating the trees, the bathrooms (cool tile work!), wandering through the grape vines, the excellent wine produced by Salvadonica, the weather, relaxing after a long car trip in the chairs set up along the ridge. . . need I say more???
Review 83:Avoid room 4 which has a lovely terrace that unfortunately adjoins a noisy public activity area which made it hard to enjoy the terrace.
Review 84:The property is a collection of well renovated farm buildings and is an agritusmo retreat in an idyllic Tuscan setting. It is a working vineyard and olive grove and is a family run business with the owners actively involved in the business and very peasant to deal with. Rudy the families pet Jack Russell is a real character.
Review 85:This is the second time i visit Salvadonica within the last year. As in the first time, I enjoyed being there. It is a lovely and accommodating place, immersed in a beautiful Chianti countryside.
Review 86:The dinner in the restaurant was not very good. The artichoke dishes were hardly cooked and could hardly find any trace of them. The hostess stated she was seating us at a table with the best views must have thought we were to old to notice that our table had the worst view of any available. When I asked why we weren't seated at available tables that clearly had better views she got snippy and said we 'd have to request that from the front desk if we didn't like it. But we were in the restaurant, not standing at the front desk. We were only the second diners in the restaurant at the time, it was almost empty. She could have graciously moved us to a better table but instead was snooty. We never ate there again and found a much better restaurant just down the road. That said, their breakfast was good and the staff for that meal was very attentive and friendly.
Review 87:The most beautiful views of any place we stayed in Italy. The furnishings were modern and comfortable. We loved sitting out enjoying the spectacular countryside and watching the sunset with a bottle of wine.
Review 88:Rooms were very clean and modern. 20 minutes drive from Florence but in the middle of the gorgeous Tuscan countryside so you felt like you were a world away. Beautiful countryside in every direction made for a very peaceful and relaxing setting. I would recommend having a car as the nearest town is not really in walking distance. The menu in the restaurant was all traditional Tuscan food and was delicious. Staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Also had a very good selection of gluten free food if you suffer from wheat allergies. We really enjoyed our stay.
Review 89:There wasn’t furniture to open our suitcases.
Review 90:Agroturism with high quality services. Good public facilities, quite (only birds will wake up you in the morning), very good restaurant (don’t miss it), good location to discover Chianti area.
Review 91:The sad part was leaving the hotel. Everything was perfect.
Review 92:The hotel is in a great located to get to Pisa and Florence in a short car trip. I would highly recommend you dine at the restaurant at the hotel. The food is fantastic. The views from the patio area is stunning at breakfast., lunch and dinner. A Big thanks to all the staff for making our stay perfect.
Review 93:The amazing views from restaurant and terras, pool-area. The beautiful restored buildings and rooms, the quality of the restaurant, the good wines from Salvadonica estate, the friendly and helpful staf. The positive way they handled the disabled (wheelchair-bound) person in our group. The central position in Tuscany.
Review 94:Fantastic location close to Florence and all the other attractions of the Chianti area. Very good restaurant with reasonable prices. Very good staff.
Review 95:Rooms were newly renovated with all amendities. Rooms were newly renovated with all modern amenities. Staff was friendly and breakfast was fantastic. Local wine and olive oil were enjoyable. The property had a house dog (Buddy) that are younger children loved playing and running around the vineyards with.
Review 96:We just regret that we hadn't planned to stay here longer. Really hope to return!!
Review 97:Breakfast buffet was absolutely amazing, as was dinner. Views from room windows (we had 3 rooms) and on the grounds were all wonderful. Close to Florence- at least if you have a car to get around (not sure what a taxi would cost to get there).
Review 98:We had a great stay here for 2 days at the end of March. The weather was too cool to use the pool but we walked the grounds for some spectacular views and the overall service and food was excellent.
Review 99:I had three adults staying here and from the review of the room I choose, it read like it would have been much larger. A bit deceiving.
Review 100:The resort property, wonderful restaurant and lovely room.
Review 101:There was nothing to dislike about the Salvadonica. One minor issue for some people might be that is is 20 minutes from Florence. For us, that was a plus. I would think this property would be best suited for those traveling in an automobile. The ride into Florence was short and pleasant.
Review 102:Everything!! The location was perfect for us (out of town, overlooking some beautiful countryside vineyards and olive groves). The room was immaculate, spacious and comfortable. It was my wife and I traveling with our college student son. The beds were in seperate rooms with plently of room for us all. Their breakfasts were excellent with lots of variety. We ate at the hotel's restaurant a couple of times and found their meals to be excellent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The property is very big with tennis, bocce, swimming, and just a lot of beautiful grounds on which to relax and enjly the beautiful suroundings. We hated to leave. This place was the best.
Review 103:Really can't understand why the owners would do a complete renovation and incorporate an ultra modern look. The beds were really uncomfortable and the kids described them as 'prison' like. Not comfy or cozy at all. The 'glaring' lighting and lack of a dimmer switch in the rooms was also uncomfortable. But mainly the dining room was more like a bad cafeteria...the lighting was so harsh and bright I felt I needed sunglasses at dinner...whoever designed that needs a course in esthetics and mood lighting. When we asked if the staff could dim the lights a bit the response was 'no..that's just how it is..off or on. Strange. We only had the first night dinner there because of that..except for breakfast. Note..you could make a lot more money if you dimmed the lights and made a lounge area if guests wanted to get out of their rooms and just have a glass of wine and relax somewhere other than their room.
Review 104:The location and memories were wonderful for us as we were there 18 years ago with our young son. We returned with him age 20 and his sister age 17. The location, hotel and surroundings are stunning. It was wonderful to experience again as a mature family.
Review 105:This place was so wonderful to us. We were there in the off season and they were doing some maintenance to get ready for their busy season but that didn't bother us. This place is just as described and it's so amazing. We ate at the restaurant every night for dinner and were never disappointed. The rooms were quaint and cozy. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Review 106:The facilities, location, view, food and service were all excellent. We would highly recommend a stay at Salvadonica!! Worth the effort to get there!
Review 107:Everything! The staff were amazing every single one of them made you feel welcome and helped with everything. Location bliss. We stayed in a basic room which was fine for us. Loved every minute of this place will def come back with my dog too :)
Review 108:I loved everything it was clean and modern
Review 109:It was a wonderful place with breathtaking views. The staff was very warm and accommodating. The breakfast was to die for and dinners were superb. Would love to go back
Review 110:If you had a disability, there were narrow stairs up to the room.
Review 111:Lovely grounds in a rural setting. Scenery was spectacular from the pool, restaurant and walking around the grounds. Food was good. Didn't get to have the breakfast due to tight travel arrangements. The cleanest room we had while 13 days in Italy. Very good value! They had cooking and art classes.
Review 112:The wi-fi didn't work in our room (last floor)
Review 113:Everything: the beautiful views, the room, the bed, the relaxed atmosphere, the staff, the food, the dog and cats...
Review 114:Nothing. Everything exceeded our expectations...
Review 115:Beautiful atmosphere on a Tuscany Hill. Very helpful staff. Rooms are clean and comfortable. If you want to see and feel Tuscany I think Salvadonica is one of the best options.
Review 116:Slow wi-fi connection
Review 117:We booked the accommodation based on excellent feedback found on Booking. When we arrived, we found the estate even more beautiful than in the photos. I would recommend the estate to everyone who is searching for a perfect break in Toscana. The staff was very friendly, rooms are nice and the restaurant is even recommended in Michelin culinary guide.
Review 118:Rent a car or bite the bullet and pay 60 euro for a cab. We took the busto San Casciano (upon instruction from the staff) and we were 4k awayfrom the hotel! Fortunately, one of the staff members was kind enough topick us up since it was after dark.
Review 119:Great staff, delicious restaurant, nice rooms, stunning views
Review 120:Would have preferred a better choice of meals - same every night. Also difficult sleeping if you have a room above you with people walking around late at night/early morning.
Review 121:Great location and very helpful and polite staff. Superb views and very peaceful and also good for getting around the area. Good pool but too cold when we were there to take advantage.
Review 122:Dinner was fair and expensive. I think there are much better places to eat.
Review 123:This was a picturesque location conveniently located; the breakfast was excellent; rooms were modern, comfortable and clean; the staff was very helpful and friendly.
Review 124:We love Salvadonica. Our favorite of our trip. We felt very cared for, the staff wanting to make our experience wonderful. They went out of their way to return a necklace I had left in the safe. We loved the restaurant, grounds were lovely, service excellent!
Review 125:1/ Very quickly pass the days and hours. 2/ Quickly passed us stay. 3/ Smoking in the place of eating on the terrace, and in places of rest and relaxation, as well as the pool.
Review 126:1/ Everything We loved, and want to return.
